Mac mini no sound at all

i have late 2009 mac mini.  i have used this little machine with no problems until i upgraded to Mavericks.  It does not have any sound coming out of the internal speakers or the output port.  i have tried a fresh install of Mountain Lion and Mavericks but there is still no sound.
i checked System Preferences>Sound>Output.  it says "no output divices found"
if anybody have any ideas.  i would really appreciate it.
Thanks

I would try a PRAM/NVRAM reset...

  • 2011 Mac Mini clicking sound

Hi all, I just bought a 2.5 i5 mac mini yesterday with 5400rpm hardrive and I love it but every 20 seconds or so theres a faint clicking sound that comes from it.  Is this normal?  Thanks

I would take it back to Apple and let them take a look at it.

  • 24" LED display to mac mini, no sound or camera

I recently bought a Mac Mini.
I also inherited a 24" LED Mac display as well.
Am having trouble getting the camera and sound to work on the display.
The cable from the display I received has three plugs.
    1.  Thunderbolt
    2.  USB
    3.  MagSafe
I have tried all four USB inputs on the back of the Mac Mini itself with no luck.
I was under the assumption that the MagSafe isn't needed because its used for charging (Macbook).
Is there another cable that is needed?
I hope I am not missing anything obvious.

    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

  • HELP! Suddenly Mac Mini NO SOUND, absolutely!

    Hello all and Happy Holidays.
All of a sudden, my sister's new Mac Mini Intel Core Duo LOST its sound:
    -No Startup Chime
-Move Vol Up, Down and Mute, no effect
-Open up Sound Preferences, inside Sound, tried everything, no sound
-Plug and Unplug external speakers, no sound
    -Internal Speakers, no sound!
-Internal Speakers are "grey out" inside the Sound (System Prefernces)
    -Play iTunes etc, no sound
I tried some method mentioned here like launching Garage Band and play some on-screen keys, NO SOUND
Zap the PRam a few times, NO SOUND; I can just hear the faint noise of the hard disk and/or the internal mechanism making a little noise. No chime.
I have a feeling this is a hardward (sound) failure, anyone?
    Happy New Year and Cheers!

    Try the SMU reset:
Unplug everything for 10 minutes, including power and peripherals.
Plug everything back in without pressing power button.
    Turn on normally.
You may have to reset clock afterwards.

  • My Mac Mini keeps waking up all of a sudden

Since a few days ago, I've noticed my late-2012 Mac Mini would wake up almost immediately after it goes to sleep.  This is the same whether I let the Mac idle to the present sleep time, or if I manually tell the computer to sleep via the Apple menu.  In both cases, the Mac would power back up immediately after it went to sleep.
I've pretty much ruled out any external devices or drives, and have confirmed that if I disable "Wake for network access" then the problem goes away.  However, unchecking that feature won't help me because I have Teamviewer and Screen Sharing running and I need to be able to wake it on demand for remote access.
I pulled up the power management log and found that everything was working fine until all of a sudden on Dec. 1, I started getting these errors:
    Dec  1 23:20:39 Familys-Mac-mini kernel[0] <Notice>: AppleBCM5701Ethernet [en0]: Wake reason: Enet.LinkDown - Lost link
    Dec  1 23:46:37 Familys-Mac-mini kernel[0] <Notice>: Wake reason: GIGE (Network)
    Dec  1 23:46:37 Familys-Mac-mini kernel[0] <Notice>: AppleBCM5701Ethernet [en0]: Wake reason: Enet.LinkDown - Lost link
I've pretty much ruled out any external devices or drives, and have confirmed that if I disable "Wake for network access" then the problem goes away.  However, unchecking that feature won't help me because I have Teamviewer and Screen Sharing running and I need to be able to wake it on demand for remote access.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot the reason for my Mac to wake up right after putting it to sleep?
    Thanks so much.

I have quite a lot.  2 iPads, 3 iPhones, 2 Apple TV, 1 Windows PC, 1 Windows server, and a few other network appliances (Blu-Ray player, Xbox360, etc.)  I haven't changed any configuration on any devices.... it seems this issue just appeared 2 days ago.  I will try to reset my router to see if it helps and report back.

  • Mac Mini crashes and restarts all the time?

Hi! I was really hoping someone could help me out.
I have a mid 2011 Mac Mini which used to work all right, but has been messing up since last summer, restarting, freezing, crashing and doing everything that makes working with pictures (Preview, Lightroom, Photoshop, iPhoto) impossible. Safari crashes often, too, and looks weird sometimes (text disappears, leaving only blocks where text was -- but restarting Safari works for that).
I've done all updates I can think of (using the latest Mavericks), 1/3 of disk space is free (about 150 GB), the most apps I have open at once is 3-4 (Mail, iTunes, Safari, iPhoto), and I almost never use Lightroom or Photoshop with any other apps open. I only have power cable and HDMI connected at all times, sometimes SD card or iPad, but then only for a few minutes for syncing. Since 90% of what I do on my Mac is editing pictures, this issue is seriously inconvenient. The computer usually crashes when working with pictures, but also when I'm only using Safari/iTunes.
    Here's the latest crash log:

    Hi,

  • Mac Mini not connecting at all to TV via HDMI

I have my 2012 Mac Mini plugged in to a SAMSUNG TV with an HDMI cable. It was working fine when I left work Thursday - I am trying to get it to connect today and it will not pick up the signal. Any help or troubleshooting ideas?

    1. Check the TV menu to besure that nothing has changed.
    2. Try a new or different HDMI cable.
    3. Reset the > NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Then if those do not solve the problem, contact Apple Support or your local AASP and have it check out.

  • DX80 HDMI to MAC Mini no Sound

Just deployed a DX80 to customer with a Mac Mini as their workstation. When connecting to mac mini via HDMI the mac mini is not detecting the HDMI as a sound device. Only option under sound setup is the internal speaker. I have tried power cycle off the Mac mini and DX80 and no luck.  When I connect the Mac mini to my samsung tv via HDMI both audio and video work as expected. When connecting the DX to DVD player or XBOX sound and video work as expected. Anyone else have any suggestions?

The DX80 does not support Audio input on the HDMI connector.  There is a feature request logged to have this added in the future - see https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuq01662.

  • Mac mini choppy sound

hi ive got a problem with my mac mini mid 2009 model, when i plug some headphones in or external speaker into the audio output, the sound is choppy it sort of goes on then off very quickly with like 1sec intervals. its unlistenable. please help

If you bought your mac second hand, you might not have got the install dvd that came with it. Your mac can boot from a dvd or external disk. If you have a mac friend he might be able to help you with that.
When you boot from a clean system on a dvd you can eliminate problems caused by faulty files in the system software.
The other possibility I can think of is hardware. Either in the circuitry or simply in the connector. The intermittent sound you describe does not indicate problems with the plug, but does it crackle if you wriggle the plug?
If your mini has a HDMI plug, you can plug that into a tv and try if the sound is better that way.

  • Download iOS 8 once to Mac Mini Server and upgrade all iOS devices in the network

Is it possible to download iOS8 only once to the Mac Mini Server and use it to upgrade all eligible iOS devices (iPhones and iPads) in the same LAN?
I tried the following methods and they are just not working:
    1. Connect an iPads Mini with Retina Display to the iTunes on Mac.  I chose Download Only. Once downloaded the iPad Software Upgrade, I upgraded the connected iPad to iOS8.  Then I connect another iPad (used to be on another Mac) to the same iTunes.  I had to download iOS 8 again.  It's not using the same downloaded iOS 8 file. (I did the same thing for an iPhone.  Same result.)
    2. I turned on the Caching Service (not Software Upgrade Service, i.e. for Mac Software) on the Mac Mini Server from the Server app.  I then repeat step 1 above and got the same result.  It seems that the Caching Service does not cache the iOS 8  Software Upgrade like what it does for other apps.  (I think I may need to use some Apple Scripts but I have no such experience.)

Yes, it should work that way.  However, I was told by an Apple Support that there was a problem and thus Server 3.2.1 was unable to do so.
I paid for Server 4 and it better provides the expected Caching Services for both iOS Software and Mac Software through the iOS and Mac App Stores.

  • How can I bandle Mac-mini Ipad and Iphone all with the same usser name and password

I alway's have problem with my ID AND PASSWORD  also I want to bandle my mac-mini Ipad and Iphone with the same password and usser name how do I do tyhis?

    Hola amigo
If you wish to use the same Apple ID for all your Apple devices then you need to set them up that way from the start. If you did not use the same Apple ID for them all then you would need to erase the iOS devices by returning them to the factory settings and starting over as if they were new.
However, content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to download or update your content bought with one Apple ID with a different Apple ID. So you would need to decide if your are abandoning extra Apple IDs that you may have created and the content that you acquired with that Apple ID.

  • Core Duo Mac Mini - NO Sound issue

I have a Core Duo Mac Mini and I have an issue where my sound doesn't work in various applications including iChat (interface sounds of iChat only; audio for chats works OK), Windows Media player & Flash Player.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and anything is plugged in, unplug it before putting the system to sleep.
    3. If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Reboot and test.
    9. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    10. Reset the NVRAM.
    11. Reset the SMC.
    12. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data. For a possible shortcut, see this thread.
    13. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • Mac Mini buzzing sound?

Hey, so my Mac Mini on occasion will make a WAAAAAAAAA sound that lasts about 3 seconds. It's on a middle E note. Anyone know why? Yes, I tried to Google it but Mac Mini alarm or Mac Mini buzz comes up with thousands of unrelated hits. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is it coming from the speakers, or inside the Mini?
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • 2010 mac mini hdmi sound output

    Hi,
i have following audio setup via hdmi of my mac mini:
    mac mini -> yamaha rx-v 665 -> philips tv
If only the receiver is turned on i have it as display and hdmi audio output device with 8-ch sound output. But as soon as i turn on my tv, my mac mini switches the sound output to my tv with only 2-ch sound output.
Anyone an idea how to prevent switching my mac mini to the tv sound output?
    thx

I am trying to get my Mac Mini (2010) to use the speakers I have connected for my Samsung 40" TV through my Yamaha receiver as well. I connected to the TV to my Mini via HDMI thinking it would take care of video AND audio, but I cannot get the audio to function. Do I need to connect from the headset port to my receiver? If so, into which port?
My dream of making the mini and TV combo is taking a hit.
