Mac Mini not connecting to Wi Fi network - 10.5.5?

My Mac Mini won't connect to my wirelss network - although my iPhone, iMac and laptop are fine. It used to, but suddenly not any more. Is this related to the 10.5.5 update? I'm having a stab at trying to fix the Time Machine "can't get MAC address" bug, and thought I'd switch from wired to wireless to see if it made any difference, but I can't. Anyone any ideas?

It did briefly once, but now Airport just says "scanning" all the time. I'm plugged in via ethernet usually which continues to work fine. My wireless network is also visible and working fine to my 2 iMacs, iPhone and (non Apple) laptop. No error messages, just can't see the wireless network. The network has WEP security. I tried switching it off but that didn't make any difference.

  • Mac Mini not connecting to internet

    Hi,
I have a Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo that I use with my TV. It has 2 GB of ram. And it's running 10.6.8,
I have a time capsule that all my devices use to connect to the internet. All of them are working (Macbook Air, iPhones, iPad...).
The Mini is conncected to the time capsules network but will not load an internet page.  I have turned off my routers, unplugged all connections, waited a bit and then restarted everything. Nothing seems to be working.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

The network address is probably not shown but the subset mask should be the same as the the Air and the default gateway is probably labeled as router.
You say the Air is connected to WiFi which I presume is your router were as the Mini is connected to the airport.
Does the Mini work if you select to connect to WiFi instead of Airport?
I am guessing on how your network is setup.
    1. You have a router that connects to the internet and includes WiFi.
    2. The TC connects by Ethernet to the Router and also provides a WifI signal labelled Airport.
    3. Your TC is in Bridge mode for its network.
If this is not how you have it set up could you clarify.

  • Mac Mini not connecting at all to TV via HDMI

I have my 2012 Mac Mini plugged in to a SAMSUNG TV with an HDMI cable. It was working fine when I left work Thursday - I am trying to get it to connect today and it will not pick up the signal. Any help or troubleshooting ideas?

    1. Check the TV menu to besure that nothing has changed.
    2. Try a new or different HDMI cable.
    3. Reset the > NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Then if those do not solve the problem, contact Apple Support or your local AASP and have it check out.

  • Mac mini not connecting thru yamaha receiver

Hi, first time Mac user and first time poster here!
I unboxed my Mac mini today and first connected it via hdmi to my yamaha a/v receiver (RX-V667). This is how my tv and Blu Ray are connected as well, and then I have one single hdmi output to my tv.
there was no display on my tv. If I connect the Mac directly to the tv, then it works. The yamaha handles everything else fine (Oppo blu Ray, direct tv cable box, Xbox 360) but not the Mac. Why would this be?
ANy help is greatly appreciated.  I'd like to avoid running 2 inputs into my tv
    thanks!

I am using a Yamaha RX-V467 in a similar manner and it works just fine.
My connection to the Mini is HDMI->HDMI.  FWIW, mine is a 2011 Mini Server
running Yosemite (previously was a 2010 Mini connected identically with no issues).
The cables could be an an issue.
Also, you may want to try a PRAM reset (OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM)
or an SMC reset (Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support).

  • Ipod to powerpc Mac Mini not connecting..

I just found an older ipod i've had for a while and went to hook it up to my Mac Mini and my computer didn't recognize it and for the record the ipod has been restored to factory settings and there is nothing on it. The ipod is getting power as it's charging, but my computer won't recognize it and won't show up in my dock, in itunes, etc., and i basically can't use it. I'm hooking it up through the usb.
I hooked it up to my friends non-mac windows laptop, and it recognized it instantly without any problems.
    Any ideas? Thanks

"Figured it out" isn't helpful when you don't say how you fixed the problem. I had the same issue, came here looking for an answer. After reading your (unhelpful) answer I also figured it out: For posterity, I am including details of what worked for me.
Simple, really: Reset the iPod. Hold down Menu+Center button until the Apple logo appears, then reconnect it to the Mini once it displays the main screen again. The Mini should see the iPod at this point, without loss of any data on the device.

  • Aeropad Mini not connecting imac G3 to network

I wanted to connect my old 333mhz iMac G3 on to my network via Airport Express. Forum users here recommended the Aeropad Mini from Macsense.
I've now got the Aeropad Mini and finally got it to work on the iMAC G3 last night - it required several restarts and repeating the whole process several times. But eventually it was great - I even got it to share the printer connected to my iMac G5. However by today the connection had disappeared. I've done several restarts on the device, gone through the whole TCP set-up process and setting it up via the browser, rebooted the Mac but it's just not come back. (well, it came back once very briefly but when I returned to the computer a few hrs later and woke it from sleep, it wouldn't connect to the internet again).
Every time I load a page it just says "cannot find server". and that's for every page i load, inc google, bbc etc.
Very strange. I'm tearing my hair out here... not sure what I'm doing wrong. Has anyone got any advice - I've not touched any of the default settings except for telling it the name of my network and the WPA password, and the channel number. My Macbook and a PC are still sharing the network with my iMac G5 seamlessly.
    Any advice would be great....

    Hi
Thanks for these suggestions. I'm using 10.2 on the iMac G3.
I tried both of these suggestions and they certainly seemed to have helped - or did until now!
It does seem to be a DNS issue because the iMac showed symptoms detailed in the support document you linked to - ie slow start up, stalling at Network initialization.
The problem is - I don't really know which DNS server address to manually add in. I looked at the one that was being used on my Macbook to successfully connect to the network - it's 10.0.x.x.... something. and I fed this one in. This didn't work initially but I tried a few restarts (of both the Aeropad and the iMac) and it eventually worked.
HOWEVER - the connection has gone down several times since then and a few restarts, and re-feeding the numbers in, have helped. But now, it seeems to have been lost forever. and nothing I do seems to connect it back. It never finds the right IP address. It finds something which it says is "self-assigned" and begins with 168.
I've also noticed that the IP address on the Macbook is slightly different to the DNS server - should they be the same? The final digit is different.
Also, the IP address that my iMac G5 is connecting to is one digit different to the one the MacBook is connecting to. And when the iMac G3 was successfully connecting, its IP address was different from either of the two other computers' IP address. Again, final digit was different.
any ideas which number I should be typing into the DNS address?
Do I need to contact my ISP (it's VirginMedia - formerly NTL - in the UK) ?
Or can I get it from my airport settings somewhere?!? I originally set up the Airport Express on the iMac G5.
sorry if this is really confusing. But any help would be really helpful - I feel like I'm stumbling about in the dark.
    Thanks.

  • Mac does not connect automatically to known Networks

    hi,
recently my Macbook has stoped reconnecting to my wifi when I open the lid and I have to do it manually.
    any idea to solves this?
    thks
    regards

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 5
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • How can I share external devices connected to my Mac mini via USB on a wired network.

Own a Mac mini with Mountain Lion.  Purchased the server app.  The Mac mini is connected to a wired network with Mac’s and Windows machines.  I have an external hard drive and 2 printers connected to the MAC mini via USB.  I would like to share these devices with other computers on the wired network. Although I have attached similar devices with an airport extreme in the past, I am unable to use a wireless router in this case.  Any suggestions on making this work with my current setup?

You don't really even need server app to do this. Simply go to System Preferences | Sharing and turn on both File & Printer sharing. Then, for example, the printer (not relevant what connection it has but obviously USB is fine) will be available to everyone on the wired network.
That's all there is to it - unless I missed/misunderstood something re: your setup which seems very straightforward.

my mini is connected to the wifi network, but is not able to connect to the working internet... can anybody help, please?

192 is local address within your network.
Unless the adddress is of a server that can reolve URL names to ip addresses you wont be able to load an external web page.
You can check what it should be by checking your router status page.
Or if you have an iOS device check under settings, W-Fi, select the network your attched to, then see what is next to DNS.

  • I intend to purchase a Mac Mini and connect to a regular (not smart) flat screen TV and use such as monitor. Can this setup also allow access to Netflix or Apple movies or an Apple TV is also required?

I intend to purchase a Mac Mini and connect to a regular (not Smart) flat screen TV that will be as such a large monitor. With this setup do I require an additional Apple TV to watch programs from Netflix, Apple Store movies, Y-tube etc?

You can view NetFlix and YouTube via their websites on a Mac computer. You can purchase/play iTunes movies and other thing via iTunes on the Mac.

  • Recently purchased iPad Mini.  Could not get it to connect.  Changed router's setting to Channel 6 and IPad connected.  Even after 6.0.2 it will not connect to some home networks although it will to public networks e.g. McDonald's.

Recently purchased iPad Mini.  Downloaded iOS 6.0.1.  Could not get it to connect to Home WiFi using Linksys G Router.  Have another Wifi Network in Home (CenturyLink provided it as a DSL/Router combo).  Would not connect (nor would my iPhone 4s or my wife's iPhone 4) until I accessed the router's setting and changed to broadcast on Channel 6 and then IPad connected.  I suspect the only reason the iPhone were still connected to the Linksys network is that they were before I "upgraded to iOS 6.  Even after 6.0.2 the iPad and both iPhones will not connect to some home networks (its random) although thye will connect to public networks e.g. McDonald's, Panera, etc.

When installing HP 3054 wireless printer continue to get a message saying my mac is not connected to the network, but it is....What do i try?

looks like this is your network connection settings problem, you'd better only keep one network adaptor online and linked, if you do not understand how to setup windows routing, this is completely not firefox problem. buddy. wish you goodluck.
