-The red drive works fine on the red camera and has been formatted *edit
-I sent the red drive in for service as I thought it was a problem with the drive. but it checked out okay *edit

  • Internal HD on mac mini not well... need to boot in Single User Mode

Internal HD on mac mini not well... need to boot in Single User Mode.
I only have a Bluetooth Keyboard and Bluetooth Mouse so when I try to boot in Single User Mode (to do the /sbin/fsck hard drive fix thing) it doesn't see the Bluetooth Keyboard. What's the solution?
I also used SuperDuper to use as a boot drive but it won't unmount my internal HD. arghh..
    Help

I have a corrupt drive and was unable to repair all the errors after booting from OS X installer disk and choosing Disk Utility...
I followed the "boot into single user mode" instructions hoping to complete my repair with fsck, however once I got to the localhost:/ root# prompt, my keyboard seemed to be unrecognized!
I tried 3 different USB keyboards - original Apple USB keyboard, Kensington Mac USB keyboard and an old SGI USB windows keyboard. All were able to enter the apple-S key to get into single user mode but NONE of them were able to type any commands whatsoever.....
I'm thinking my only option is to boot the mini as a target drive off my laptop and try to backup my 30GB of music and photos before wiping the drive...
2nd option might be to try Disk Warrior for $79??
Anyone else have ideas for me?

  • Anyone know if you can buy Tryten's mac mini security mount at stores?

Anyone know if you can buy Tryten's mac mini security mount at stores or just at www.tryten.com?

I've not seen it at stores, but each store has its own space restrictions, which may affect whether or not it is stocked.  Call your store and ask.    The number for Apple's own retail store is on http://www.apple.com/retail/ and the extension is usually 5 to speak to a real person.  If you get AppleCare, you have been redirected off the store's phone system.

  • Mac Mini Region-Free Drive?

I was curious if anyone knew whether the Mac Mini's optical drive was region-free, as far as being able to play DVD's from other parts of the world?
For instance, I live in the USA (Region 1). I'd like to purchase a couple of DVD's from Britain (Region 2). Will they play in my Mac Mini? Will I have to download any plug-ins, etc. to make it work?
    Thanks!

The drive isn't region free, no. It can swap region codes 5 times (if I recall) but after that will remain on the last one set.
The easiest way to resolve this is to download VLC player. It doesn't take any notice of region codes, so the region 2 DVDs you want to play should work just fine. You can set VLC player to be the default application for DVDs in the CDs and DVDs preference pane.
VLC player can be downloaded from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If the Mac use Lion (10.7) you can use Airdrop for that.
With Mac's not using Lion you may set up a computer to computer (ad hoc) connection.

  • Mac mini internal hard drive not recognised during internet recovery

mac mini 2.3GHz OS X Lion
I turned on my comp and got the folder with the question mark. Went into recovery and am not able to do any of the proceedures. I can see something in the disk utility, but it is not mounted. I was able to recover an old internal drive connected with a SATA wire, but not what I was looking to do. Have had this less than 2 months. I wish apple had better steps to follow for recovery. Just want it to function the way it was bought. Any help is appreciated. First time posting!

Sounds like either a failed Hard Drive or other Hardware problem.
Contact Apple or your local AASP and make an appointment to have it looked at.

  • Mac Mini not reading old pc ext hard drive

Have a five year old external hard drive from a previous PC.   I connect it to my Mac Mini and the device listing shows it is there, but the letters are not black.  They are light grey and i am unable to open the drive when i click on the listing.

Sounds like it is not mounted properly, damaged or perhaps is protected by some sort of windows encryption.
Open Disk Utility and see if you select the drive in the list of drives and then mount it using the blue Mount button. If not then disconnect the drive, restart the Mac Mini and reconnect the External Drive.
Now if it is still not mounting and/or you are unable to manually mount it using Disk Utility, it is either damaged and needs repairs or unencrypting using a windows computer. Of course I could be totally wrong about the windows encryption thing, because I don't use them all that much.

  • Mac Mini not recognizing USB optical drive - when Windows 7 in the drive

This is a really strange situation. I purchased a DVD writer in order to install Windows 7 on my Mac Mini (the SuperDrive stopped functioning some time ago). I've been able to boot from this optical drive to install Snow Leopard, but the Win7 disk isn't recognized when I try to boot from it (just get the folder with the "?"). Holding down "Alt" just shows me the Macintosh HD. I've tried multiple DVDs, including a genuine MSFT printed one with no success. I've attached this same drive to my Lenovo laptop and it booted to Windows 7 setup without a problem.
    So, to sum up:
    The Samsung DVD writer:
    * boots up Snow Leopard on the Mac Mini
    * boots up Windows 7 on the Lenovo laptop
    * fails to boot Windows 7 on the Mac Mini
The Samsung model is Super WriteMaster Slim External DVD Writer, SE-S084
Any help would of course be greatly appreciated. Chocolate is possible for a really good answer.

    Hello hoppingboy,
    Just an FYI for you.
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibility.)
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
    Thanks again,
    John M.

  • Why is my mac mini not using both hard drives?

I have a mid 2010 mac mini server, with OSX Lion installed. It has dual 500gb hard drives.
I've been backing up all my important files to it, and I've always assumed that once I filled one disc, it would seamlessly transfer over to the other and continue backing up. This does not seem to be the case.
I'm at roughly 495gb of data, and when I try to move a 10gb file onto my server, it tells me that I don't have enough disc space to continue the operation.
What can I do to make use of both drives?
    -Thanks

I am not familiar with OS X Server setups, so it may be possible it can automatically spillover from one drive to the next. But this is not something with which I'm familiar. Maybe you should post your query in the Mac OS X Lion Server forum.
You cannot make a RAID array of the two drives without losing all the files, so that would not be an alternative unless you had a way to backup everything first.
The Mini uses notebook sized SATA drives. The largest currently available is 1 TB, so you could install dual 1 TB drives.

  • How to share files on 2nd drive in Mac Mini, not 1st

I am totally new to Apple's Server software so I may have some very obvious questions.
I just bought the latest Mac Mini server and want my team to all share files on the second 500GB hard drive. When a user connects to the server (from the side menu under "Shared") they see "Groups" "Public" and "Users" - and these 3 directories are on the primary drive in the Mac Mini.
I'd like to just have all the media files they're creating to be stored on the 2nd 500GB drive.
Can anyone tell me how to set this up?
    Thanks for the help!
    Brian,.

    Hello Brian -
I'm relatively new to Snow Leopard Server, but these forums have been a great great help so I am keen to help others when I can!
This is relatively straightforward to do.
    1) Make a directory on the second drive (This can be done using the Sharing Pane of Server Admin if you wish, or through SSH / Screen Sharing) - call it Data or something similar.
    2) In Server Admin make a share for your new folder. I'd suggest making it automount and fill in the options accordingly.
    3) Check the permissions are correct and amend if necessary - again through Server Admin
    Done
Your users will now be able to connect to the server with their logon credentials and see the new share, which of course is stored on the second drive.
Make sure you've got backups configured somehow (Time Machine maybe?)
    Hope this helps.
    Andrew

  • Mac Mini not reading CD

I have a Mac Mini the i not reading a CD. is any i can do?

Is your Mini failing to read all CDs you try to mount, or only that one? If all CDs, then most likely your optical drive needs to be cleaned or replaced. If only that one, then there is a problem with that particular CD disk.

  • Mac mini + usb2 external drive problems

    Hello !
I have a huge problem with my mac mini - I find the same error on my power mac g5.
    I use Tiger 10.4.1
So, I have the mac mini and 2 LACIE external Harddrives.
One Hardrives is allready full with about 40 GB data. Now I want t copy all the data from the one HD to the other hd.
BUT IT IS NOT WORKING - after about 4-8 GBs the system just stops copying data and the finder freezes.
I only can turn off the power.
This happens with or ithout hub.
Does anybody know something about USB problems on macs ?

    Hello,
I am resurrecting this thread to see if there has been any recent "developments" concerning the under powered usb situation. I have a similar & frustrating encounter with the mini & a portable 40 gig wd passport hd. Believe me, I have tried EVERY combination of attaching this hard drive to the mini--powered usb hub, directly to the mini...I have even tried a 2 "headed" (for lack of a technical term) usb cable! (does not have fw option)The only thing I have not done is to buy a power source for the portable hd. Here are a few characteristics...
1.) The hard drive mounts but freezes when I try to open it (spinning beach ball thing) and I end up having to disconnect the portable. 2.) works fine on the PC winXP & Mac G4s at work 3.) works great on my brand new 12" ibook...
I am a little sad because the purpose was to be able to store & travel with shared info.
Any news, solutions, or "fixes" ?
P.S. My mini is still OS10.3.9
    Beth
