Mac Mini - Philips TV model 42pf9831d
I just purchased a 2.5ghz Apple Mac Mini and when I connect it to my Philips TV model 42pf9831d via hdmi the television initially displays the apple rebooting for the first 30 seconds, then the television goes blank. The Philips specs state hdcp is enabled on the hdmi interface and the television is capable of 780p and 1080i. I believe the television is a 2007 model. The Mac works fine on my sons LG television so I know the Mac is okay. Your thoughs... solutions? HDfury2 VGA? Kind regards, Ron
OSX probably does not have support for the 21x9 aspect ratio. So you're getting a 16x9 picture displayed on the TV's wider screen.
The black pillars on the sides of the screen are therefore normal. If you were watching typical HDTV broadcast content in its native resolution -- no compensations enabled in the TV -- you'd see the same result.
If you enable any settings in the TV that cause a 16x9 picture to fill the 21x9 screen, you are actually distorting the picture. You'll either be "stretching," magnifying (zooming), or cropping the original signal. Which is not accurate and not the ideal way to watch content that is not intended for 21x9 viewing.

Best LED TV to be used as monitor for Mac Mini (Late 2012 model)
Hi All,
I am having a mac mini (late 2012 model). Now, I am planning to buy a HD LED Tv from my home. So I would like to know which one will be best suited to be used as a monitor for mac mini so that I can buy a TV which will be used as both TV and Monitor
--jRYou'll want something that's 1080p. Best to have one with HDMI input, too. Other than that, let price and warranty be your guide.

Hard drive for mac mini early 2009 model
Hi,
My hard drive stopped working, and I would like to purchase a new one.
After checking with several vendors, I could not get an official answer if their drive is supported by Mac Mini early 2009 model.
Can you please advice what hard drive vendors/models do you know are supported?
ThanksWelcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mac mini uses a 2'5" hard disk, and near all of these hard disks will work with your computer. You can buy the hard disk in OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
If you want more information, you can only use 9.5 mm hard drives, so search them in OWC and you will find hard drives that will work with your computer. HGST drives have a good reputation and work very well -
Use of perfirals with Mac Mini 2009 Late model
Why the connector of my Mac iSight camera doesn't fit into the port of my Mini late 2009 model with the same ID marker "Y"?
Something is wrongs. I have physically connected my iSight camera to my late 209 Mac Mini with no problems.
However, with Mavericks the iSight camera would not work from me and for others too. I have not tried with Yosemite since I gave away that Mini before Yosemite was released.
For your case can you take and post here photos of both the connector on the mac you are using and the plug-end of the cable. -
Windows 7 No 5GHZ WiFi on Mac Mini A1347 2010 Model using BootCamp
I have a new 2010 model mac mini and the WiFi in snow leopard works fine with both a 2.4GHZ and a 5GHz connection. When I reboot into Windows 7 I am only able to use a 2.4GHz connection and the 5GHz connection does not even show up as an option to connect to.
Any ideas?
- DanWelcome to the Apple Discussions!
Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Mac mini has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & Windows, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
The Forums are at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology. Here is a link;

Lion upgrade fails on Mac Mini mid 2007 model
I have a mid 2007 model Mac Mini, 1.86 dual core model. When I try to install Lion I get an error failed because a recovery partition could not be created. I have freed space, with 30 gigabytes free. I have tried to clone my hard drive using Disk Utilities and an external drive with the thought of booting to the external drive and using it to clone my main drive, to perform a defrag. That process also fails. It gets 99% done and with 7 minutes left it fails to clone the main hard drive to the external.
Can anyone help me from here? There is no problem if you take the right precautions, there are plenty of guides on youtube like this one

Mac Mini Server (Latest Model) and Bootcamp?
Hi, I am interested in purchasing a Mac Mini Server - The latest model. But have a few questions
1.) Before I purchase soon, is there an updated line coming out that I should wait for - Or no rumors as of yet?
2.) I read a while back that Mac Mini server, could not bootcamp. But recently came across a post stating that the newer systems w/ Mountain lion contained the necesscary files to bootcamp Windows 7 (off google, lost original link)
I need bootcamp for Audio production as some programs I have are windows only.Yes, thank you for your reply. I did purchase the adapter, which works perfectly.
But now of course I have other issues regarding the use of 2 monitors. I now have both my Macs hooked up to the KVM using the 30" but I am unable to view the other monitor which is not a High definition display(1280 x 1024). It seems the only other port available on the Mini is the HDMI port which I have the HDMI to DVI adapter for. Is it possible to connect this VGA display with a DVI to VGA adapter (which I have)? Or am I looking at yet another purchase of a compatible display? This VGA display is primarily used for communications with coworkers..etc so that my 30" is only for my work. Thanks so much for your help. -
Posterized colors on two different monitors with Mac Mini, late 2014 model
Sometimes when I leave my Mac for a while (like an hour or more), I come back to a black monitor, then click the trackpad to wake it up (I assume it is "sleeping" but I don't see a way to make the monitor sleep), I am faced with posterization of the colors and crumbly text, like this:
I can "fix" it by going into System Preferences > Display and change the rotation to 90 or 180 or something. The screen clears up right away. Then I revert to the normal rotation. This is an ok workaround but it is not convenient. I never had this problem with my MacBook.
I first saw this issue with my late 2014 Mac Mini that I got a couple months ago, and it has happened with both monitors I have tried: an old Benq monitor attached with DVI (DVI to Thunderbolt adapter) and a new Thunderbolt Display. The Benq was connected using a DVI to HDMI adapter. I no longer have this monitor. The Thunderbolt Display is attached directly to the Mini using the Y cable to the Thunderbolt port on the Mini.
Yosemite version is 10.10.2. It doesn't happen if I wake the Mac while it's showing the screen saver.
The only things I have checked under Energy saver is "Wake for network access" and "Enable Power Nap". I don't have anything Scheduled, as I don't have a specific time of day I want it to turn on and off, but I would like the Mac to wake up right way and display correctly if I have to leave the Mac for a while during the day.
I've seen other similar threads, but so far all the suggestions I've seen talking about upgrading to 10.10.2 (which I have) or some sort of workaround involving sleep settings (which I can't quite understand). I'm going to call the Mac Store where I bought the Mini next week, or when I have some time, but I have a feeling they aren't going to be able to help me much. It seems like this is such a common problem with the new Mini's I might be stuck with it, unless someone has a better solution or workaround.Reset the SMC and PRAM

RAM Compatibility with the Late 2012 Mac Mini Core i7 Model (MD388LL/A)
Hi,
I ordered a Mac Mini for academic use and so far I have used this thing for 2 days but the problem is I usually have a lot of programs like SPSS, Excel, and Safari open at once to multitask and the 4 GB RAM isn't cutting it. I've had one instance where 3.9 GB of my RAM was put into use and I think a major culprit of the problem is that it runs on integrated graphics which takes RAM away.
So I ordered myself some G.Skill SO-dimm RAM from newegg (thinking it would be compatible with the Mac Mini since it was 204-pin, 1600 Mhz, non-buffered or ECC memory):
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231580
Upon reading the reviews, I found that 2-3 people had issues with their Mac Minis freezing up with the RAM stick (g.skill claims to have no tested this RAM for Mac, but the one specifically for RAM was $20 more expensive), while others say it runs fine on their Macs.
Should this work? My hope is the people who froze up got bad sticks.Maximum Memory
16 GB
Memory Slots
2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Only use RAM meeting the above specs. Stay away from memory commonly used in PCs like GSkill. Buy your memory from OWC or DataMem, although many here also recommend using Crucial. I would not buy memory from NewEgg because almost all of their products are geared to the non-Mac market and tend to be troublesome in Macs. -
Mac Mini versus other models of Mac
Hi there -
I've been looking into the Mac Mini because a friend is planning on buying one (for normal home use). I'm someone who's been stuck on a G4 for six years now, and although it still works very well, I do some recording/editing in ProTools and my 400 MHz CPU is just not enough to do much.
The Mac Mini looks like it's good for me, because it's a much faster CPU and has enough expandability for RAM, and I don't really care for having any sort of DVD burner (looks like it has a dvd player which is somewhat key for me).
What I want to know, though, is how has Apple positioned ths Mac Mini? I've heard so little about it from them that I can only assume that they've released it as a way for a household to have a powerful yet affordable computer. Seeing as how I would like to do some protools work (nothing crazy, I hardly go over 12 tracks and I do use some but not a load of plug-ins) but I'd hate to get one and find out that they lowered cost by skimping on some of the details that dont show up in product specs, but would affect the overall performance.
I suppose the difference between this and a tower is the lack of expandability compared to a tower. Any thoughts? I would think that a lot of the cost is cut by not having a display built in (such as the iMac, laptops)
ThanksThe Intel Mini should be much more powerful than your G4, especially if it is six years old. A Gigabyte of RAM from the start would be a plus though.
Since your profile mentions OS 10.3.9, I assume your G4 isn't running an OS 9 version of ProTools (assuming such a thing exists) : the Intel Minis don't support Classic (and can't boot OS 9 either, obviously). ProTools 7.1.1 will run on Intel-based Macs. I don't know if the PPC version of Pro Tools will run in Rosetta.
ProTools is an audio application; I doubt the integrated graphics will have much of an impact on its performance (compared to the dedicated graphics of an iMac, for example).
The Mac mini is an entry-level Mac. However, it can be quite powerful, especially in its Intel version, as long as you give it enough RAM. After all, it's almost as powerful as a MacBook (non-Pro) ...

Constant DNS Lookup from New Mac Mini Late 2012 Model i7
Just bought a new i7 Mac Mini ( late 2012 )...my first mac....the wifi connection is way too slow comparing to its installed bootcamp Windows 8 that I installed on it afterwards.
I started to track the ip and port that got queries in Mac Mini, I noticed that those applications are querying ports every 0.1 sec...those are
rsResponderDNS - port 53
Gamed - random port
And many other applications.
My question is if Mac installed some applications that is like HP computers with HP framework that constantly sending tracking data and Ad tracking back to Apple or something.
Very disapointed with my first mac, I felt like I bought a HP mac...
Currently I setup firewall rules to block most of the ports from going out...the firewall interface is a bit confusing too....normally, it should block all incoming ports for home users since it is not a server, but based on the firewall interface it is saying that the rules setup is allowing certain incoming ports...why would I open any incoming ports? I need to restrict outgoing port. Furthermore, if you check off block all outgoing port, it blocks everything even though there are rules setup in the firewall as white list.It sounds like you installed something that used nsResponder, not rsResponder. Double check that.
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/cocoa/reference/applicatio nkit/classes/NSResponder_Class/DeprecationAppendix/AppendixADeprecatedAPI.html
Says that part of code is deprecated on Mac OS X 10.8. Which suggests that you are using some old software expecting a code for nsResponder and can't find it in 10.8.
One software I know that will monitor network traffic is Little Snitch. But what I don't know is how to uninstall it. I would check with the developer of it, how to uninstall it before installing it, as it can slow down your network traffic even more. But at least it should be able to tell you what applications are attempting to network. -
My mac mini on booting keeps restarting.....help
Ok a quick look as what's happening with my mac
My mac mini mid 2011 model was running totally fine on os lion
Just few days back I updated to mountain lion
Installation was fine but on a restart showed me a error MSG that your
computer restarted because of a problem
But then my mac booted fine and I updated n installed latest software updates
Then on an average out of 10 shutdowns i did in 3 to 4 days the same error showed up 2 to 3 times
Then I checked the report showed some kernel thing ( the copy is below)
Then I used disk utility checked disk and disk permission it showed error and needs
To be repaired then on repairing it , it repaired and said all is ok
Then next shutdown was fine I thought problem solved
But next day when I tried to on my mac within a sec it showed a grey screen with some error in back ( Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting check photo ) and my mac kept restarting No apple logo to spinning wheel just on then grey screen then error MSG then restart and kept doing this
Then little google and then I did some first aid steps
Tried safe mode not successful
Tried disk utility option verified disc it showed errors again and this time said that disk cannot be repaired
Can open Internet recovery option also but before reinstalling my os I wanted to save my data
as I have no backup
My first and only priority is to save my data first and take a backup and then think of reinstalling os increase my ram or change hard disk so please guide me and by looking at my problem what you guys think it is an os failer ,hard disk failer or something else
My plan is to try
Transfer disk mode with another mac using thunderbolt ....and if that does not work
Then take out hard disk and try to use with hhd enclosure
If you have any nice tip that I can do to get n save my data please share thanks
My very first error MSG when I updated to mountain lion

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

G4 Mac Mini with Toshiba CRT HDTV
Hello all. I'm trying to hook up my Mac Mini (original G4 model) to my Toshiba HDTV (30HF85) using a Dvi to HDMI cable (DVI-D; a basic cable purchased from amazon). Unfortunately, I'm not getting any picture at all - just a black screen. I'm sure that neither the cable nor the hdmi port are faulty; I ran another mac (2005-6 G4 Powerbook) through the cable to the TV, and got a very clear picture. Likewise, the mac mini is still in working order, and connects with no problem to an any VGA monitor via the included DVI-VGA adapter. I have a suspicion that it has to do with the cable I purchased - it's Dual link. I've read in some places that this shouldn't matter, but in others, that this is a problem for older mac minis. Any ideas about what's going on here?
Since you have two Macs, I recommend you try the following:
• Hook up the G4 PowerBook to the TV and open Displays preferences on the PB and make note of the resolution in use that is giving a very clear picture.
• Enable screen sharing on the mini (using a computer monitor if you have to)
• With the mini connected to the TV, share its screen to the PB and from the PB you should be able to set the mini to the exact same setting that is working so well from the PB.
About your dual-link question, I doubt that's the problem. HDMI to dual-link doesn't even make sense because and HDMI connector doesn't have enough pins to hook up to a dual-link DVI connector. -
How many users on Mac Mini Server?
Good morning,
Apple's recent changes to the Mac Mini line have thrown a wrench in a project plan I've been working. One part of the project needs a quad-core computer (FileMaker Server) and so I'm having to either search for an older model or switch up to a Mac Pro.
The other part of the project involves bringing a Mac-based server in for directory and user services, including mail. I had planned to use the high-end Mac Mini Server but that option was removed. The office I'm supporting is about 15 people (usually a little less on the network) and most of their work will actually be done against the other computer running the FileMaker Server-based application. I was not expecting a big load against the Mac Mini Server. But these changes got me wondering, what are others' experiences with Mac Mini as a server for 12-15 people? I'm happy with qualitative and quantitative data, but I would like to know which is which. In general:
For how many users have you provided directory and user services (built in to the OS) using a single Mac Mini?
What were the specs of the Mac Mini (year or model, speed, CPU config, RAM)?
Other thoughts?
In essence, I need to understand if people have successfully used dual core processors as Mac Mini servers in environments of 12-15 people. I've done it using a 2012 Mac Mini Server with 5-6 and the loading seems to support further growth, but would like real-world experience.
Thanks.Dutch Apple employee told me that Mac OS X 10.6 Server has also Windows Terminal Services equivalent.
But this is not !
Not yet (?) available in Snow Leopard Server. -
Mac Mini performance very slow after upgrading to Mavericks
Since upgrading my Mac Mini to Mavericks, its performance has become progressively slower. The first issue I noticed was a freezing of the clock display on the upper-right of the menu bar. I often leave my Mac on overnight to stream music and increasingly when I check the clock in the morning it has frozen at somepoint during the night. When I move the mouse over arrow over the clock, it turns to "busy" and I clicking on it does nothing. Changing the clock setting in system preferences does nothing to the displayed time, however the clock in system preferences is not frozen and displays the correct time. Rebooting is the only thing that fixes the problem. Lately the system has been performing progressive slower. The boot-up/restart process takes several minutes now (>= 5min) and opening a program takes about as long as it did on my PC 20 years ago. When the computer is awakened up from sleep mode all of the open programs have to be force quit because they are unresponsive. Often, at this point, trying to open a menu in the menu-bar, saving work on a spreadsheet or navigating through folders in the finder takes an unusually long time, whereas it used to happen almost instantaneously before Mavericks was installed. I would really appreciate feedback/advice. Thanks, Aaron.
