Mac Mini reboots when connected TV is switeched off

Hi,
I have connected my Mini to my Samsung LCD-TV (LE40R5) via DVI-to-HDMI adapter cable, i.e. I use the HDMI input of the TV. The audio output of the mini goes via optical connection to my audio-decoder station.
When I run FrontRow to listen to music and then turn off the TV with the TV's remote control (because I have selected the correct music-play-list in FrontRow and now just want to hear music without the need of havig the TV running) then about 2 seconds later the mini starts a reboot!
This is reproducable and only happens since I did the last Mac-SW-update (about a week agao, ~middle of april).
FYI:Before the SW-upgrade no reboot happend, but the apple-remote was no more working without running TV. Now the apple-remote works but the mini reboots )-:
Does anyone have the same issue and has a solution for avoiding the reboot???
Any help very much appreciated!

Hi,
Yes the external driv might be an idea.
In the meantime I found out that the problem only appears when I listen music via Front Row. However, if I listen music directly from iTunes then I can switch off the TV and the mini stays awake.
So the reboot problem must be within Front Row.
Does anybody have an idea if Front Row can be configured in any way?
Is there a configuration program for it ?

  • Mac Mini crashes when connected to USB mouse!

This problem just happened all of the sudden--I came into my office a few days ago and there was the multi-lingual screen of death telling me I needed to restart my computer. Tried numerous times, no success--same message.
Took Mac Mini to Genius Bar--they said it checked out just fine.
Brought it home, plugged everything in--same problem!
Started eliminating USB and Firewire items that I was connecting to it. Narrowed it down to my Verbatim USB wireless mouse. When I disconnected it, the computer booted fine. However, can't navigate anywhere w/o a mouse, so I figured my solution was to just go buy a wired USB mouse.
Bought wired USB mouse. Same crashes! My computer will not boot with any USB mouse connected and when I connect a mouse after it is booted, it crashes the moment the mouse is connected.
Even if there is something I could install or uninstall, I can't do it because I have no navigation w/o a mouse!
Error messages on screen of death have to do with "kernels" and what not--again, if it was something I could replace/reinstall that would be great, but how can I do anything w/o a mouse?
    Please help!!!
    Thanks,
    Phil

I have three 2008 model Mac minis, each with verbatim mice. Luckily one hasn't been upgraded to 10.6.8 because I'd be without a working desktop machine.
The 2010 Mac mini doesn't have this problem.
So far I've tried four different USB mice and all of them lock up the machine, even in safe mode.
I can't afford to go and buy three apple Bluetooth mice - it's the only way I can use these machines.
I hate downgrading machines, so I'm hoping apple supplies a patch soon.

Thanks. Where could I possibly look for a firewall rule. I knowingly did not creat any. My system has internet coming to a Modem which then is connected to a wireless router. I have computers connecting to the router through cable as well as wireless. One of these computers has been our  mailserver using Mercury and Pegasus and that computer has a static IP address. The Mac Mini also has been assigned a different srtatic IP address. I have only set up user account, none of them an email account as I initially expect them to receive only internal mails. Is it necessary that I must set up an email id for each user while setting up the user account. My server id is server.local. So would the email id for local users be [email protected]?

    Hello, give this a try...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

  • Mac Mini sluggish when USB external drives connected

I'm not sure what's causing this issue, but I have a Late 2012 Mac Mini and when I plug in a USB 3.0 thumb drive or my WD My Book Studio (also USB 3.0), the mouse cursor is very sluggish and laggy. I will physically move around my mouse and the cursor is extremely slow to reflect such movements on the screen. It did it with an empty USB flash drive, so there's no indexing or anything else going on in the background. Ejecting the drive will not solve this issue until I physically remove the drive from the USB port. What's causing this and how do I fix it?

format the drives for MAC OSX extended journeled.....when you do that, is the problem still present?
Ive head of this before on WD drives (cant stand them) because they have some nasty bloat loaded onto them for installing them (no need for that EVER) on  your computer.
when you insert the WD drive, does the drive come up AND ANOTHER icon saying something like "WD xxxx"  (i recall its something like WD utility, or WD support)    ???
Ive got nearly 100 hard drives, but wont own a WD, ....if i get a free one, i destroy anything on it with a erase and wipe with disk utility "format for mac osx extended journaled"
AS FOR YOUR STICK DRIVE,......are you sure its mac compatable??? most stick drives list that in the fine print, and mac owners buy a cheap stick drive that isnt 'kosher' with MAC

  • Mac mini won't connect to my wireless router!

I just bought my mac mini server then connected it to wifi, then after 2 weeks I had to go abroad for a week so I just turned off the switch connecting to my mac, without switching off my mac mini server. then when I get back home my mac mini won't connect to my wifi. I tried everything from manually setting up IP and DHCP nothing works. What happened?
    thanks for help,
    Jakarta

I didn't reset the machine/router itself because 2 of my computer is still connected to wifi-and working perfectly, but the mac mini server cannot connect to wifi.
what I did was to set up the "networking utilities"-having said that, what I did was to connect all over again to wifi, this did not work. I did tried to change from DHCP to manually set up IP, neither of these didn't work.
    I'm now stucked!

  • Mac Mini won't connect to internet "ISP Failed"

My 2012 Mac Mini isn't connecting wirelessly to the internet. All of my other devices connect perfectly. It was working when we first set it up in our new house a few days ago. And now randomly it will not. It continues to say that I am connected to the network but that the ISP, Internet, and Server have failed. In the Network Diagnostics the IPS, Internet, and Server are also jumping from red to yell to green to yellow. I am on OS 10.9.4, 2.5 GHz i5, 16GB ram. Any ideas how to get it to work?

Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
Test. After testing, restart as usual and post the results.

mac mini won't connect to printer unless other mac on network turned on

Copy the IP address of the printer from the Mac that can connect to it by itself. The IP shows when you start any print job.
Disable Printer sharing on this Mac.
Go to the Mac that cannot connect by itself and set up the printer from scratch using the printer's IP. To do this:
System Preferences / Print & Scan, then click the + sign, nxt select Add Printer or Scanner and click on IP. Fill in the info.

  • Mac Mini reboots restarts upon wake from sleep

Since 'upgrading' from Lion to Mountain Lion, my Mac Mini reboots (Restarts) whenever I wake it from sleep. I've applied every update hoping it will be fixed. Apple has been unable to resolve the issue short of their standard suggestion to reformat and reinstall from scratch. I've had to resort to disabling the energy saver.
A Google search turns up many similar complaints. Anyone have a fix or suggestion?
    Thanks

Did you get anywhere with this? I have the same problem i fear as per my separate post

    Hi, Hugo,
In similar cases it helped to remove the GarageBand "Preferences" file from the User Library.
    Open the folder
your home folder > Library > Preferences
and move the file "com.apple.garageband.plist" to the Desktop.
Then try again to launch GarageBand.

Syncing to a new computer should give you the opportunity to replace the exisiting contents with the new.

  • Can you connect iPad to Mac mini, Can you connect iPad to Mac mini

Can you connect iPad to Mac mini, Can you connect iPad to Mac mini?

Every Mac Mini has a USB port. Every Mac Mini can run iTunes. The only catch is that you need to be running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) or later. So in general, yes, an iPad can connect to a Mac Mini.

  • Mac mini not keeping connection with Cisco wireless access point

I am trying to get my wife's Mac Mini to keep it's connection with the wireless network at her school. They are using a Cisco access point (not sure of the model) which works fine with my G4 Powerbook and the numerous Macbooks being used there, but for some reason her Mac Mini drops the connection after 4 or 5 minutes, at which point she needs to log right off for it to reconnect (as opposed to just turning the card off and on again). I have already gone through the deletion of the Networkinterfaces.plist file, and recreation of the Airport card profile process, but this only kept the interface active for about 36 hours, then it was back to the same old problem. At this point I am thinking "flakey card"...before I ship it off to Apple, can anyone offer any other possible solutions?

After spending time on the phone with a Apple support technician, he indicated that the Iphone has a compatibility problem with the wep key encryption that the Cisco appliance uses. I find this disturbing being that Cisco is the biggest in network gear. What's UP Apple? We need SP1 for the IPHONE!!!

  • MAC mini will not connect to Dell PowerConnect 5524

Have several Mac Mini's that will not connect to Dell PowerConnect 5524 switches. Proofed Cabling, Ports, and Minis. Something between the two is not happy. Searched Dell and Apple sites and found no information.

Most routers document a default router address such as http://192.254.0.1, or something similar you can manually enter in your web browser to log into their setup.   Apple's Safari can't login all routers.  In some cases Fifefox, Chrome, Opera, or Omniweb is needed, and in some cases you have to use Windows virtualization to use Internet Explorer.   Once you get to the page, the username is typically by default system, and the password is admin, or sometimes it is vice versa.  Verify with Dell support what they use.  Then you can configure it at will.
As long as you have a Core2Duo or Core i Mac Mini, you can connect via 802.11n wireless.   Some earlier Core2Duo may need Apple's 802.11n patch to be installed to be able to use 802.11n.  Otherwise, all Mac Minis support at least 802.11g.   The old PowerPC Mac Minis had an optional Airport Extreme card that could be installed for 802.11g support.  Those only had 2 USB ports on rear.
