Mac Mini rez is messed up after update....

I have last gen C2D Mac Mini hooked to my 37" 720 LG TV through the DVI > HDMI. I only use the Mini for music and movies though NetFlix etc. Last night I did updates to OSX etc and after reboot my rez is all messed up. Apple toolbar just slightly off screen and I can't seem to find the proper rez. Before the Mini set itself automatically to the LG's rez, but not no more....but it does see it is connected to a LG TV.
Any ideas?

I'm going to suggest the obvious...
It looks like overscan what you are experiencing and it happens to be a new option under System Preferences>>Displays>>Options>>Overscan. Set it to on for DVD's, off for everything else.

  • Mac Mini shuts down during startup after update

I've got a Late 2009 Mac Mini running Snow Leopard Server. Occasionally, it takes me awhile to restart after updates, so this could be due to the most recent update or possibly the combination of the last two...
I went into my office, saw that there was a Safari update and decided to let it do its thing. When I came back 30 minutes later, my machine was off. I turned my machine back on, got the gray Apple screen with the spinning cog and the progress indicator for the update. A little over 10% through, the progress indicator reset. No biggie, I figured. Second time it got to the same point, it just shut down. Nada. When I restart, it does the same thing.
    I've tried resetting PRAM.
    I've tried resetting SMC.
I've tried booting in safe mode, but that isn't working at all – just does the same thing as when I (fail to) boot normally.
Everything but one of my screens and my keyboard is disconnected. ****, I even tried booting without either one connected (I just waited to see if it would turn off), and it failed.
Can't think of or find anything else.
    Anyone?

Humm.. you'll need to startup from your System Install Disc to test, repair or restore from Time Machine.
Some options for Starting up from your Install Disc include:
    1. in an External Optical DVD Drive.
    2. from another iMac in Target Disk Mode.
    3. from a copy on a Thumb Drive or External HD.
It's to bad that you are using Time Machine on the second HD instead of a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner - Home or SuperDuper! that you could boot from for testing, repairing and/or restoring.
If none of the above helps?
There is one good thing about a Mac Mini, it is much easier to tote into the local Apple Store or AASP than an iMac. see > Apple - Support - iMac - Service FAQ

  • My mac mini freeze every few days after updated to mountain lion

ANy solution to fix this issue?

    Bonjour PanicRev16
I use Grapher 2D 3D on my early 2006 iMac, but I tried it on my wife's Macbook Pro with Lion then Mountain Lion : no problem with Grapher 2.1  3D gcx files, Grapher 2.3 loves them !
You can try the 3D Grapher 2.1 files from the website  http://y.barois.free.fr/grapher/  and see the result on your Mac Mountain Lion.
I updated Grapher documentation and bugs of this website on 15th december 2012 (Lion, then Mountain Lion).

  • Mac OSx won't boot up after update to 10.6.7?

Mac OSx won't boot up after update to 10.6.7?

    Hi Mike
This is called a kernel panic, similar to s 'blue screen of death' on Windows. When you say you reinstalled 3 times, do you mean the OS or the Update?
When does this kernel panic appear? You may have a hardware issue if it's happening on boot.

  • Mac mini server won't reboot after Installing security update 2010-003

This has already been posted and remaines "unanswered".
After updating to Snow Leopard Server 10.6.3 and attempting to reboot, the mac mini (HDMI) hangs on the gray apple logo with progress spinning. It takes me several times to force the mac mini to power down and try again, before it finally loads the login screen.
    any suggestions?

    Odd.
So it's hanging while starting services, it looks like, the firewall in particular, have you tried a safe boot?
If not, hold down the shift key right after you hear the power-on chime, keep holding it till you see a spinning gear.
This boots up without extra kernel extensions and fonts, clears font caches, and runs a disk verify and a repair if needed. If you still can't boot reliably in safe mode, you may need to run an archive/install.

  • Mac Mini Late 2011 keeps restarting after shutdown.

Hi, I had my Mac Mini Late 2011 installed with Mountain Lion yesterday (25 July 2012). The installation was successful but I cannot shut it down.
When I shutdown, the system goes down and the display goes black, but after 3 seconds it starts up again showing the message that the Mac is restarting because there was a problem and ask me to push a key on keyboard to continue or wait for 40 seconds and the system will automatically continue.
This happens repeatedly. It does not shutdown.
So I decide to do the clean install the Mountain Lion but it does not solve the problem.
    Please help.
    Supong

I have my problem solved now.
My case, the Mac Mini mid 2011 and the Mountain Lion. I tried clean install the ML with no migration but this did not solve the problem.
"evanluke" posted in another thread (thread no.19044865 https://discussions.apple.com/message/19044865?tstart=0#19044865?tstart=0 ) that when he read the system report, it showed system panic event related to graphic driver. He is using the Mac Pro so it is not difficult for him to remove the relevant hardware.
But for me, the Mini, I have to wait for the mercy from Apple.
So, I tried changing my monitor from HDMI to VGA using the DVI to VGA cable connecting to another monitor port.
The display was ok though I could not set proper resolution. Then I switched back to HDMI, ** leaving the DVI connect to VGA monitor **, then shut Mini down. it went down properly with no self-restarting.
I started up the Mini and shut it don again and again, no restart happened.
I want to know what if I remove the VGA connection, it did self-restart again.
    Reconnecting the VGA, no self-reboot.
I must leave DVI to VGA connect to both end to stop self-reboot problem until Apple realize the problem and post the update.

  • Mac Mini late 2014 video blackouts after 10.10.3

After updating OS X to 10.10.3 my video randomly blacks out for a second, and less frequently flashes a "torn" pixelated image of what's on the screen.  Happens about once a hour.  It's not related to what program is being run.  Monitor is a brand new Samsung 32" S32D850, and it doesn't happen when a Windows 7 computer is hooked up to the monitor - only the Mac Mini.
Saw similar problems posted for older Mac Minis.
This is likely a video driver problem. I'm using standard Apple drivers, Samsung doesn't offer any for OS X.
    Apple you working of this?

  • Mac Mini won't complete reboot after upgrade

I have a Mac Mini that is PowerPC based. It is running OS X 10.4.8.
Last night when I opened iTunes a dialog box appeared saying there was an update available. I believe it was 8.0 or 8.1. I elected to download it. This brought up the standard Software Update dialog and there were 4 updates available, iTunes, a Security update, and two others. I elected to download and install them all.
After they installed I needed to perform a reboot and did. The Apple logo appeared and the rotating spokes appeared but the boot process would never go further. I have used Disk Warrior to check out the system. I have booted using the original installation CD and repaired permissions and run Verify Disk to make sure everything is proper. The Mini still will not boot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Chris, as I wrote earlier...
I have used Disk Warrior to check out the system. I have booted using the original installation CD and repaired permissions and run Verify Disk to make sure everything is proper. The Mini still will not boot.
The Verify Disk did not show any errors that needed to be repaired...
I did boot into Safemode (I think) holding down the Apple and S key when booting. I then keyed in "sh /etc/rc" (I'm trying to remember from last night) and the Mac Mini started its UNIX boot. Several lines of text displayed showing its progress. It finally hung after this line display,
    "Workaround Bonjour: Unknown Error: 0"
    Does that help any?
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • My mac mini doesn't shut down after installing mountain lion?

Right after i installed mountain lion and checked all the new features, I closed all applications, clear ram, clear cache, clear print queue, made sure that nothing was running when i logged out(only one 1 user was logged on.) I shut down and it seemed normal until the mac mini restarted, saying there was a problem and the normal error report appeared on screen when everything rebooted(after I log back on.) I'm angry. Really what should I do, I just bought this on December 2011( i7 mac mini sandy bridge) of last year. I hope apple releases an update to fix this problem.
My first attempt was to go to disk utility and fixed it, it worked I was able to shut down. However after that it started to go back to the way it was and it still wont shut down. Yes Im able to do everything else like put the hardrive to sleep(yes it goes to sleep I made sure) and force closing applications. Right now Im going to attempt doing what I did before but I will appreciate if a representaive or an apple veteran would give me advice or some useful information on how to fix this problem.
This happened 8/18/2012 at 6:57(when I installed Mountain lion and checked.)

  • Mac mini restarts on its own after shut-down.

The Mac mini will restart by itself about 10 minutes after shut down. I turned off all the restart options in energy saver. Funning 10.4.8 with the latest firmware instalation.
Any suggestions how to stop this?

I have had this problem for a looooong time and I think I finally resolved it. Last weekend I was trying a demo of MacPilot 3 and found Elgato's EyeTV had two items in the Power > Events list. Apparently when you set EyeTV to start up the computer for it's schedule it restarts the computer randomly rather in a reasonable amount of time before the recording begins. Since there were two files, I think 1 was left over from previous EyeTV version and was starting up the computer even though I told EyeTV not to start the computer at a later date. Deleting both files seems to be the solution.
