Mac Mini running a second monitor

Does anyone know the possibilites of running a second monitor off the Mac Mini (I am currently running a Mac Mini Dual Core)? I was just reading about this USB to SVGA adapter that was in works by this company called Tritton (http://www.trittontechnologies.com/). I guess they are working on one but there website says that the release of this product has been postponed. Are there any other products out there that anyone knows about?

  • HP Pavilion 27xi Monitor: Display problem Mac Mini running Yosmite

Image quality is very poor for Mac Mini running Yosmite connected via HDMI.
Adjusting overscan helps scaling, but pixelation and poor image quality is not changed (very blurry)
Using VGA/mini display route with same devices, image quality if far better showing that somehow mini conncected to HP monitor via HDMI could be improved via driver update.
Is there a driver update for Yosmite?
Only drivers found were for Windows:

    Hello @adsben,
I understand that the image quality for your HP monitor is poor when connected to your Mac Mini, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
According to this document on using HP Monitors on a Mac:
"HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors. To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC. The monitor should operate at 60Hz. The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment."
    I hope this helps!

  • I just connected my Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8 to a IG 32' monitor. What resolution should I select from the menu?

I just connected my wife's Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8 to an IG 32' monitor. What resolution should I select from the menu in order to provide maximum screen appearance? My wife has AMD and a visual acuity of 20/400 with central scotonata.

In System Preferences:Displays you have an option to show
Displays Prefs in the title bar above the screen - where she can
iteratively adjust to her liking. Higher screen resolutions, ironically,
result in smaller characters so adjust to suit. Below, Displays is
    4th from L.
    All best, Tom

  • Mac Mini running so slow

Not sure how to diagnose issues on my Mac, but I gathered I should run Etre and post results here.  I know I could add more RAM, but this is so slow that I have to believe something else is going on.  Can someone spot anything unusual in the following?

I downloaded and installed the: Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 on my mac mini running 10.8.1, was I correct in doing this ?
I didn't see this update come up in "Software Update"
If I was not meant to install this update, would it cause ANY damage at all to my mac ( this is my second as I dropped the first )
If I were to re-install ML would this fix any errors that this may have caused ?
The bottom of the page I link to says:
Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: MM51.0077.10
But when I click on "About this Mac" it says:
    Boot ROM Version:          MM51.0077.B10
      SMC Version (system):          1.75f0
What does the additional "B" mean?
My mac mini is the Mid 2011 Model.
I am sorry if I am sounding super paranoid about this, but I don't want to have caused any permanent damage.

    Hello,
It's somewhere between almost impossible & impossible to install the wrong EFI Update with all the checks it does!
Mac mini (Mid 2011) with Intel graphics
    Macmini5,1
    MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)
Mac mini (Mid 2011) with Radeon graphics
    Macmini5,2
    MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)
    Mac mini Server (Mid 2011)
    Macmini5,3
    MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
Not sure what the B means.
If I were to re-install ML would this fix any errors that this may have caused ?
No, Firmware is unaffected by any OS change or re-install.

  • 2008 Mac Pro sees a second monitor that isn't there.

My 2008 Mac Pro sees a second monitor that isn't there. It's the original ATI 2600 video card, and I'm running Mountain Lion. It says there is a VGA monitor plugged in to the second port, but there is no second monitor. If I connect the cable to the second port on the video card, I get no display at all. This seems like the video card to me, but it started happening after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

  • Mac MIni running hot after memory update

I have a late 2010 Mac Mini. Using Temperature Monitor, it always showed CPU temperatures at anyhting between 45 and 65.
Last week, I upgrdaed the memory from 2gb to 5gb. Since then the temprature has been contantly between 69 and 72.
Are these events connected and, in any case as the temperature limit is 105, does it matter?
    David

please explain this 105 temperate limit. where is this mentioned?
intel cpus can go really hot with no apparant damage
my core i7 right now is running 150 degrees, because it is doing a mixture of seti @ home and milky wayi @ home packets
my video card just idling not doing much is 104
just turning a computer on can cause it to go to 105 degrees farenheit
i used to have to have a problem with my mac mini actually over heating to weird blue screen and rebooting that was because my pram / nvram or whatever you call it smc needed to be reset and it wasn't turning the fan on
when apple says operating temperature of 95 degrees and 115 degrees storage temperature , they are talking about the temperate of the room. they arent talking about the actual cpu temperature
when intel cpus hit the actual temperature limit (which is around 160-180 or so ) it will shut down and drop its load and and shut down hard to save itself. before that temperate is reached, the intel cpus will commonly step down their speeds down to dissapate heat
105 is nothing to worry about
    update
my studio xps core 2 duo laptop that i am typing on for which i am not really doing a whole lot on it  except like
    browsing the web is:
    gpu 126 degrees farenheit
    temp sensor 113 degrees farenheit
cpu (both cores) 99 degrees farenheit
now if u meant 105 degrees celsuis then i think the warranty would be voided

  • Why does my Mac Mini running on Mavericks so slow to start and load apps?

Why does my Mac Mini running on Mavericks take so long to start and load apps?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Small Business w/Mac Mini Running Server OSX, Connect From Home Solution - VPN?

I am trying to setup my Mac Mini running OS X Server (Mountain Lion) to be accessed from users at home (for file sharing and Contact Services). Is a VPN the best solution? (Small business setup - privacy/security a concern).
Hi everyone, and Thanks for the help in advance!
I am currently setting up a network for my company (small business) and have a few questions. We have a Mac Mini (mid-2012) running Server OS X Mountain Lion, and 5 MBP's (our work computers- all running latest version of Mountain Lion).
    To summarize:
My goal = Setup a secure way of connecting the MBP's to the server when our personnel are at home (for file sharing).
I am switching all of the users from local to network (we didn't need the network functionality when we first setup the server, and we are now expanding our use of it). This is going to occur this weekend, as downtime for the server is needed to make the changes.
After I establish the Open Directory and all of that, I will be setting up Contact Services (to share a master list of contacts with the members of our department) and we already have some Calendar sharing setup.
The purpose of this is to enable our employees the option of working necessary overtime from home so they can be with their families instead of in the office all the time. It is a noble cause and I want to set this up the best that I can for them.
This being said... I'm no Mac Genius, and this stuff can get very confusing very fast. I have read a little about VPN's, and am wondering if this is the solution to my problem. We need to establish a SECURE way of connecting to the server from remote locations, enabling us to pull needed files from the server.
If anybody can offer some advice on this I would really appreciate it. I love Apple products and I have faith that this is as easy as I've been told it is.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration!

No, it wasn't difficult at all to setup in OS X Server. I use a free internet domain name from DynDNS.com. I don't know if they still offer free ones anymore. You can not use VPN and 'Back to My Mac' at the same time as they use some or all of the same ports.
I'm at work and not on my Mac at the moment so this is from memory.
Within OS X Server, I enabled the VPN Service (default L2TP) and used my free domain name in the VPN Host Name and a Secret passphrase. This put an entry in my Airport Extreme router for VPN (port mapping).
Within the client Mac, I added a VPN network connnection (System Preferences /Network). I pointed to my free domain name in the Server Address, used my Server account name in the account name. I think there's an Authentication button that I clicked. I entered my Server account password, the Secret passphrase in the Secret field, checked a box to show VPN icon in Menu Bar and exited out of that. Then clicked the Advanced button and checked the box to send all traffic over VPN connection.
I had VPN authentication issues at first when trying to connect to test out the connection. I just kept trying as I knew I had all the settings correct and it would finally connect after about 3-4 tries. After that, I sometimes have to connect more than once to actually connect to my Server via VPN. But it does work nice. I brought my MBP into work once to test it out and was able to connect to my home Server via VPN and use Screen Sharing and had access to all my shared folders.

  • Using Mac Mini running OSX Server (10.8) to host web sites on LAN

I would like to know how to use a Mac Mini running OSX Server (10.8 ML) to host web sites on my home network (LAN).
I am developing web sites and previously (before ML) I used my Mac Pro to 'host' the sites I was developing to test them out before publishing them to my hosting package.  That was when I was using 10.7 Lion and theer was an option in the System Preferences to turn web sharing on.
I have since upgraded my Mac client to 10.8 ML and have configured it to do the same - even though there is no System Preferences option for web sharing any more.
I also have a Mac Mini running on my LAN and its been upgraded to OSX Server 10.8.
Im now trying to configure it to host the web sites I am developing but with no success.
I thought it was just a matter of adding them as sites in the Server's Websites panel (see screen shot)
but so far Ive had no success.
On my Mac client I can simply add a folder in the Sites directory and then open the web site by putting http://myhost/~myuser/name-of-folder and it will load the default file in the folder e.g. index.html
How do I achieve the 'same thing' on OSX Server?

    Hi Johnfromglenver,
There are no Mac drivers for the HP Officejet K60 printer. Therefore it is not compatible with the Mac operating systems. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836.
