Mac Mini Screen Fuzz

Hey, I was on my Macintosh Mini, and when I boot it up, the screen goes fuzzy. Then if I wait about 1 minute, it's normal on the log in screen. I just got this computer at Best Buy. (It's connecrted to my 44" TV at 720P, by HDMI) Please help!

Do you have any other regular computer display that may be attached to the Mini so as to troubleshoot the computer, before taking it back to BestBuy?
The issue may be in the television used as a display and it may be slow to react to the input from the Mini. But if the problem is in the computer, BestBuy should get it back and quick before they forget you. A friend of mine bought an iMac and their bestgeeks forgot her and their in-house plan, she lived 130 miles away from the store. Now she has a clonewarePC running the competition-doze.
Sounds like the resolution may also be re-set when the television changes, and background image, too.
So it really is a matter of troubleshooting. If there is an Apple Store within your area, call ahead and set up an appointment with a product specialist or Genius; you can carry just the Mini and maybe the power adapter in. Or whatever the person you talk to suggests; doubt if they'd care to see the television, though.
Good luck & happy computing!

My 2011 mac mini is hooked up to a monitor and it has a black screen with an "out of range" message. I'm not sure how to fix it. everything is plugged in. please help!

Reset the PRAM > Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.

  • Mac mini screen res changes through gcs634u

I have a mac mini and use it via a 2port Iogear kvm to a HP2408 @1920x1200 resolution. I just bought a new 4port Iogear 634u but when i connect the mac it changes the resolution to 1280x1024 and does not give me the option to do 1920x1200 at all. If i connect the monitor directly or thru the 2p kvm it works just fine... any ideas ?

Hi, only idea I have is from some reviews...
The device doesn't seem to consistently and reliably relay accurate EDID information from the monitor
It has managed to negatively impact the monitor - as much as I have messed with the settings, the left edge of my screen is off the monitor.

  • Mac mini screen resolution not synced with monitor

Hello! I have a Mac mini at home, equipped to an hp w2408h monitor via HDMI cable. Recently, I went to my friends' house with my Mac, plugging it in to their projector and playing Minecraft. However, I had to adjust the screen resolution, and once I got back and set everything up again, the monitor said I need to 'adjust screen resolution'. Is there any way to reset/sync/calibrate the resolution to the monitor, or do I have to go back and readjust the settings? Thanks! :3

  • 2011 2.3GHz Mac mini screen flickers

    Hi,
Guys, I'm really out of ideas. I'm using a mid-2011 2.3GHz Mac mini on a Samsung SyncMaster XL2370HD screen. The flickering seems to begin in the evening, after moderate use during the day. At first I believed it was a result of plugging in my earphones (I use them almost exclusively at that time), but I soon found out it has no effect. It's as if the screen dozes off for some seconds and quickly recovers, when sometimes, after intense flickering sessions, it just goes blank, in which case I have to restart the screen. To be more accurate, it's as if the connection to the Mac mini is lost; the screens works just fine. Most people who'd experienced screen problems used some sort of an Apple screen, so most of the advice given to them is irrelevant to me. I use the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter and a DVI-to-DVI cable. Any help would be much appriciated!

I use the same connection with my 2010 Mini and an LG display.
    1. Check your connections to be sure that they are all snug and firmly plugged in.
    2. Try a different DVI Cable.
    3. Reset your Mini's PRAM, as per > Resetting your Mac's PRAM
Then if that does not help, take the Mini and Adapter to your local AASP and have them checked out. as per > Apple - Support - iMac - Service FAQ

  • Mac Mini, screen share setup over network out of the box?

    Greetings,
Is it possible to screen share and setup a new Mac Mini out of the box? Ultimately, I'm trying to figure out if I really need to purchase a separate screen just to setup the machine.
    Thanks,

  • 2013 Mac Mini Screen Blinking

New to the Mac Mini world, my mini is less than 10 days old and the screen seems to randomly blink or flicker to a black screen and back to normal in less than a second.  It even does it during the boot up process.  Just checked for updates and it says all updates are done.  It does this via HDMI to my TV.  It also does it when I screen share from my iMac.

Sorry to report, but a common problem...

For some the EFI update fixed it, others it didn't
I'd return it in the 14 day return period.

  • My Mac Mini screen has a blue tint

I got my Mac Mini around a week ago, one equipped with intel core duo. When I originally turned it on, the screen was fine until a popup came up and said that Mini's with intel processors that a firmware update was required. I followed the instructions and did the update, and when the update was complete the computer restarted and the screen had a blue-green tint to it and has had it since. I've tried to adjust it via the color and brightness on the screen but it's not working.

First open the Universal Access preference pane and in the 'seeing' tab, make sure that the slider for 'enhance contrast' is all the way to the left. Next, open the Displays preference panel and click on the 'color' tab. The click the 'calibrate' button. This will take you through a color/brightness/contrast set up procedure that may eliminate the problem.
There are two options in the calibration process, standard, which is the default option and has fewer adjustment screens, and expert, which is selected by checking the box for it on the first calibration screen and offers more adjustments. You can't do any harm with either since any settings you create can be discarded, or profile(s) you save can be deleted or ignored if necessary.
This won't necessarily resolve the problem, but if not, then it would indicate that there's an issue with the hardware - possibly just the connector on the back of the system, which needs to be fastened really tightly. If you can't readily resolve this, since your system is so new, I'd then suggest you call Apple.

  • Brand new Mac Mini Screen Flash

So I bought a brand new 500gb Mac Mini today hoping to use it with my HP monitor. I haven't got a keyboard yet but just plugged it in (using HDMI) to see if it is working and was presented with the mac setup flashing on the screen every second or so. I then plugged it into a TV and everything was working fine. The monitor works fine with any laptop and my Xbox 360 so this is very confusing. Is the Ipad Mini not compatible with certain monitors? My monitor is an HP w2207h. Please help this is very frustrating!

  • HP w2207h with Mac Mini screen clipping trouble?

    Hi,
My HP monitor is connected to the Mac Mini using the HDMI cable. The monitor seems to almost be working right. The only problem is the edges of the screen are cut off in the monitor. The Apple menu bar is completely cut off at the top and part of the Dock is cut off at the bottom. I have cycled through every resolution available in the Display settings in the Systems Preferences. I have also tried to use the physical menu on the monitor with no luck. I cannot seem to fix this. Any solutions?

You can use HDMI cable with HP w2207h directly,No need for other cable. but please follow these step.
1.Find LCD tv to set up first step.
2.Connect HDMI cable to LCD TV(i use Samsung) and adjust to HDMI source.
    3.Open Mac mini.
    4.Open system preference.
5.Click "display"  you will see that the primary setting is :1680*1050  that  HP monitor did not support.
6.Unplug HDMI cable from LCDtv (no need to shut down) and plug into HP w2207h.
7.the screen still blinking, it is ok.
8.On HP monitor,  Push down button  "Select" and "+"  and the same time and hold it.
9.Use mouse or down button on keyboard to choose screen resolution to be "1600*900"
    10. Then the screen will not blinking and you can use your lovely HP w2207h
if you want a high resolution on screen.
1.Buy new LED monitor that support 1680*1050  resolution.
2.Buy Mini displayport to DVI for digital signal   Mini>DVI>HDMI.
Enjoy your MAC. because i am new Mac user with my MAC mini 2011

  • 2011 i5 2.5Ghz Mac mini screen flicker issue...

    Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I have my 2011 Mac mini connected via HDMI to my TV, and each time I turn the TV on,- after about 5 minutes I get one single flicker where I lose picture and it comes back immediately. This never happened with my 2010 Mac mini connected the same way, which is why I'm surprised.
Again, this only happens once. After I turn the TV off and then back on, it will do the same thing again after 5 minutes. Very odd.
    Thanks, guys.

After 3-4 calls to the support the last thing I was asked to open the terminal and digit :
    cd /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DysplayVendorID-410c
push enter. You'll get a warning but you can continue.
    Then :
    sudo mv DisplayProductID-0 DisplayProduct-0 old
push enter and restart the mac.
the person on the phone told me that this solution is studied for a known issue with Philips screen, and exactly blank screen not fl ickering.
In any case it didn't work for me
I'm starting to think that maybe it's something about new macs and Lion. I have seen discussions in which people complain about flickering issue with the new MBA.
On Monday I'll call the support and then ask for a new mac, still don't know which one,I bought mine less than 14 days ago.
Hope this will be fixed soon.

  • Mac Mini Screen

I want to purchase a mini but haven't gotten to the store yet.(I want to buy it there) I am still confused if it doesnt cme with a screen or if you can hook it up to any screen?
    Thanks
    Josh

The Mac mini does not come with a monitor (nor a keyboard nor mouse). You can use one of Apple's monitors, one of a plethora of monitors from other companies, or in some cases a television.

  • Mac mini screen showing only black and cursor arrow

I stopped using this mini when I attempted to upgrade the OS and it became unresponsive in the midst of the upgrade. I recently took it in for repair, they told me it's now running fine. but when I get it home the screen comes up all black. the cursor arrow appears and I can move it on the screen but I can't see anything else.  I don't have a monitor for the mini (never did) I just do a share screen from one of my other macs (iMac, Powerbook) but now all I see is the black screen. I can access it from any of my other computers. I can access the files. Everything works great, except I can't see the screen. Is there something simple I'm overlooking?

Hmmm, I'm wondering if they attached a screen & set the resolution out of bounds for whatever you're screen sharing with?
Can you boot the Mini holding Shift key & still get in once it boots?
