Mac Mini sleep error

I just recently got my mac mini repaired and now I cannot get it out of sleep. I have to shut down the entire computer and reboot it.  Is there any way I can fix this?

Is it booting in Verbose Mode I wonder?
Open Terminal and paste this in...
sudo nvram boot-args=""
Hit return & enter an admin password which will not show as you're typing, hit enter again.
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

Hold those 4 keys ubtil you hear the 4th chime, takes a while.

  • USB WD Drive wont switch off when Mac Mini sleeps

Can anyone help. My WD USB drive remains powered when my mac mini sleeps. I have tried "switch off hard drives when possible" in the preferences but still no joy. Any advice?

    Hi Phras81-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
Unfortunately the inability to sleep is a function of the drive itself. Which model WD drive? If it is a MyBook and you can return it I would suggest that you do so and get something else.

  • Mac Mini AHT error code:  2MLB/10/4: $0004.89f1

Have Mac Mini G4 1.42 purchased in 2005, upgraded by Apple service center to 1 Gb and never used - sat in box. I recently starting using it after putting and experienced random kernel panics and application crashes. Ran AHT which produced error code on second pass: 2MLB/10/4: $0004.89f1 .
Thinking this was RAM, replaced RAM with quality 1 Gb stick, ran AHT again, but on third pass received same error code, 2MLB/10/4: $0004.89f1 .
I am interested in knowing EXACTLY what this error code means - cannot believe this is not online anywhere. Can anyone with an error code listing tell me? I already suspect this machine will become a paperweight.
If so please post and/or email scotsilv AT aol.com
    Thanks
    Scot

...I noted that my machine's Boot ROM Version is: 4.8.9f1
So, $0004.89f1 is simply the boot rom version and 10/4 the OS.
Appears I had a loose Airport card, which when tightened seems to have made the machine stable.

  • Mac mini server error start postgres "CANNOT_START_SERVICE_TIMEOUT_ERR"

    Hello,
I bought mac mini server this week and I started to configure.
I can't start postgres with command "serveradmin start postgres", I have this error:
    "CANNOT_START_SERVICE_TIMEOUT_ERR"
In this discussion Wiki: "error reading settings", Postgres "CANNOT_START_SERVICE_TIMEOUT_ERR", I do it but not success. When I open the "file/var/log/system.log" I have this lines about the execute command to start postgres:

I don't find where is the problem. Have any idea where is the problem?
    Thank,
    Att.

See the section headed "Additional Information" in this support article.
By default, the server doesn't listen on the network. To change that behavior, edit the file
    /Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Config/org.postgresql.postgres.plist
    To the line that begins
    <string>listen_addresses=
add a comma-separated list of addresses on which you want it to listen. Then restart the server:
    sudo serveradmin stop postgres
    sudo serveradmin start postgres

  • Mac mini sleeping/waking problems

    Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing constant issues with my mac mini.
To awake it from sleep I have to push the power button, the screen goes grey with a progress bar display - not unlike on my macbook pro when resuming from low batteries - and all the drives connect to it appear to have been ejected incorrectly.
I tried the usual troubleshooting steps, bar resetting smc, so far.
    My system details:
    Mac mini 2012 | 16GBram | 2.7 Ghz Quad Core | Mavericks 10.9.5
    Any suggestion highly appreciated

  • Mac Mini sleep issue

New mac mini here. When my mini goes to sleep by itself and when I awake it the the internet safari hangs. I either have to reboot or put it to sleep and awake it again. Im using wireless and have an external hard drive connected.

I did the SMC already. Didn't know if i needed to do a PMU because im new to Mac. I did however eject my external hard drive and then let the mini go to sleep on its own. I woke it up and internet works perfect now. So its my seagate free agent ext hard drive 1.5tb. It was formatted to nfts and recently formatted to Mac os journaled. I need my external plugin usb because my itunes and movies are on there. Is it not compatible with mac. Or does it have something to do with Mac putting the drive to sleep and how does that affect the internet hanging??????

  • Mac mini sleep

Just thought I!d post this .
I recently bought a new mini . I am running an old 20 inch Cinema display. I bought all the relevant adapters, but the mini would not go to sleep.
I could put it to sleep manually, but when trying to wake it by using the mouse, keyboard or an application (eyetv), it would shut down.
I reset all parameters, re-installed the soft-ware, to no avail.
I ended up dis-connecting all USB cables. It seems that the USB ports on the back of the display were the problem, for some reason interrupting the SMC.
So if you have sleep problems, try going through all connected USB devices, disconnect, try sleep/wake, eliminate.
    Hope this helps some body.

I have that problem since Quicktime 7.1.6 update (or the Airport Update, can't say).
When rebooting the display stays dark, but everything comes up fine. When I put in the Installation CD, the display turns on.
    (DVI-FullHD, as before).
But after the "blank" screensaver gets activated, the display doesn't turn on again, not even using the CD.
(Although everything else still runs fine.)

I have a Mac Mini with bluetooth keyboard.  I cannot boot to OSX Recovery (command R).  Yet I need Disk Utility to repair HD errors.

  • Mac Mini - AHT error

    Hi
Having a few problems installing OSX (10.4.7) from install disk on MAC MINI 1.8, Just run Apple Hardware Test (AHT) and am getting back the following:
Alert! Apple Hardware Test detected an error:
    4SNS / 1 / 40000002: Center_Upper-Front
Any ideas to what this relates?
    Regards
    Giddy2k

That MacOS installer is correct for the 'Late 2006' Mac minis (you can check in the grid in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159?viewlocale=en_US) and the 'Late 2006' mini includes a 1.83GHz Core Duo model (as shown at http://support.apple.com/kb/SP29). Thus if your mini has a superdrive (DVD burner) and 80Gb internal HD, it seems highly probable the installer is the correct one. If the model number (on a small sticker around the base of the mini) indicates it to be an MA608LL/A then it is the correct installer.
That being the case, the sort of problems on the hard drive that could cause the boot issues you are experiencing would not necessarily show up in the SMART status, since it's more likely to be corruption on the drive than drive failure. I'm curious about your comment +repair eventually sorting HD volume out ok+ since that suggests there were drive issues discovered during disk repair. That being the case you may be suffering a failing drive, or Disk Utility may not have correctly resolved the problem(s).
In this situation, I'd be tempted to boot to the installer, and perform a custom 'Erase and Install', to ensure the drive is wiped before MacOS is installed. If there is an data corruption or damaged catalog (which would cause subsequent issues) the erase will resolve them. If, after that, the system will still not boot, I'd suggest it is increasingly possible there's a fault with the drive or the drive controller on the logic board.
Of course with a used mini and a possibility that it has previously been doctored, it might be more problematic than usual to narrow it down to a specific cause if the above doesn't resolve it.

  • In the process of installing OS X Maverick on mac mini; got error "Filesystem verify or Repair failed"

    Hi,
I am in the process of installing Maverick on my Mac Mini.  I got an error: "Filesystem verify or Repair failed".
Most threads suggest that I either:
    1. restart process,
    2. install disk and try again,
    3. recover disk
Since I am in the middle of installing, I cannot seem to go back to my working OS to restart the process.  Since Maverick is available in the App Store, i cannot use a disk for it.  That leaves me with recovering the disk.  Can anyone suggest how I can do this without destroying all my files on the computer?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for your advice.
I do have a backup, but I can't access it right now.  I tried the OS X Recovery, but when I try the "Command-R" option, it just goes right back into the install.  I have used the "Command-R" option before, so I know when and how long to hold it for.  I just couldn't get it to not enter the install.  I did manage to at one point get a prompt where it asked me if I wanted to install from Macintosh HD (main partition) or Backup (secondary partition), but I chose Macintosh HD, and it went back into the install.  I couldn't get that option again for whatever reason.
Is there a way I can just start from scratch?  Both Snow Leopard and Mavericks are online only.  Is there a way to pause the install, connect to the internet and install a brand new (wipe out all files - I can always use by backup to restore my important files later) copy of the OS?
    Thanks,

  • Mac Mini Sleep problem - help!

I have a new Mac Mini 1.83 and a new Envision 22" LCD monitor and when I put the Mac Mini to sleep and click on the keyboard, the MacMini comes out of sleep but the display screen stays black. If I manually set the computer to sleep a second time and take it out of sleep a second time by clicking on the keyboard, then the display works properly. But I have to put it to sleep and make it come out of sleep TWICE before the Envision display works properly. Any ideas about this problem?

I have that problem since Quicktime 7.1.6 update (or the Airport Update, can't say).
When rebooting the display stays dark, but everything comes up fine. When I put in the Installation CD, the display turns on.

  • Mac Mini Fatal Error

Used Boot Camp to create a partition on a Mac Mini, but unable to get Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 to install. When I get to the page that says "39 minutes to install", I get this message:
Fatal Error. Untranslatable message. Win32LastError 14001. One of the components could not be installed.
The only option is to quit and try again, which I've done several times, including once from scratch (eliminating and then re-creating the partition) to no avail. Tried calling Microsoft and the tech said he wasn't trained to advise on Mac installations!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe the best place to post is the Boot Camp Forum a few lines above this one.
    Wish you the best.

  • Can't install the 1.5.2 update to DVDSP 1.5 on my 1.42 Mac Mini - G4 error?

    I have a 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 Mack Mini running OS X 10.4.5
I try to update DVD SP 1.5 to 1.5.2 and it states:
"DVD Studio Pro Updater cannot be installed on this computer. DVD Studio Pro is only supported on G4 processors."
I've installed the ProAppRuntime 3.1. But cannot update DVDSP.
    Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thanks. I deleted every trace of DVD Studio Pro 1.5 off my Mac Mini. I've been modding the iDVDs Themes to do what I want, so I will never have to worry about Apple not supporting their own Pro programs ever again. IMHO paying money for a Pro App that expires in 2-3 years is insane.
Apple: make a version of DVD SP that is between Pro and iDVD like you did for FCP. Here's an excellent idea for a name: DVD Studio Express.
