Mac mini start up shut down code

I appreciate the two responses, from '300Tech' and TITOUMAX to my original question.
I was reluctant to take the "sudo halt" terminal suggestion since a warning loomed over the danger of losing data.
I was unable to post a copy of the code sequences suggested by TITOMAX since the problem was solved by the time I saw his post.
I received an answer from Apple.
I was able to halt display of start up and shut down code by shutting the Mac mini down and starting the machine while holding down  "cmd option PR" keys until the computer gave the normal start sound followed by a repeat of the start sound. This procedure led to a normal start up process and also a normal shut down process without the display of the "start up code" during start up or the display of the "shut down code" during shut down.
By the way, holding down the "cmd option R" keys with my left hand while pressing the Mac mini start button with my right hand and quickly getting my right hand in place to hold the "P" key was tricky, but only took two tries to achieve success.
I was concerned that the display of those lines of code was an indicator of an impending problem. It turned out to be an unintended feature following replacement of the logic board.
By the way, Apple Care has been wortwhile for me.

Thanks for the report, that's called a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

My mac mini will not shut down or restart.  I need to manually shut it off with the power button.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful.

  • My mac mini doesn't shut down after installing mountain lion?

Right after i installed mountain lion and checked all the new features, I closed all applications, clear ram, clear cache, clear print queue, made sure that nothing was running when i logged out(only one 1 user was logged on.) I shut down and it seemed normal until the mac mini restarted, saying there was a problem and the normal error report appeared on screen when everything rebooted(after I log back on.) I'm angry. Really what should I do, I just bought this on December 2011( i7 mac mini sandy bridge) of last year. I hope apple releases an update to fix this problem.
My first attempt was to go to disk utility and fixed it, it worked I was able to shut down. However after that it started to go back to the way it was and it still wont shut down. Yes Im able to do everything else like put the hardrive to sleep(yes it goes to sleep I made sure) and force closing applications. Right now Im going to attempt doing what I did before but I will appreciate if a representaive or an apple veteran would give me advice or some useful information on how to fix this problem.
This happened 8/18/2012 at 6:57(when I installed Mountain lion and checked.)

  • I upgraded RAM to 16gb in my i7 mid 2011 mac mini and it shuts down at night

I have a mid 2011 mac mini i7.  Below are the specs on memory, hardware, and solid state.  I also have Yosemite installed - everything is current. version 10.10.2
I've had 8gb installed since I bought it.  And I just purchased 2 sticks of Crucial RAM 8gbx2.
Everything is fine but when I go to bed and wake in the morning, the system will not wake-up.  I have fresh batteries in the keyboard and mouse.  The system mini is warm on top - not cold or hot.  So it does not seem asleep.  I have pressed the button on the mac mini once and thought it was alseep...nothing happens.  I just can't get it back up after it seems asleep at night.
The only way I can get the system going again is pulling the power plug.  This has happened each night since installing the RAM.  Oh, I also have held the power button down for 5 seconds trying to do a hard reset.  Nothing
I was really excited to get the system up and running with 16gb but hate trouble.  I am not a tech expert....
I have not changed any settings.  And if it was asleep, why isn't it waking?
Does anyone have any ideas here?

    Thank you for your help.
I did both resets you offer in the link above and then I went to bed last night.
In the morning, when I hit the keyboard, it paused and came to light....and said there was a problem and it automatically reset and re-booted from a blank screen (not main screen).  This was the screen after the reboot.  The full error info is listed below the image.

  • Mac mini keeps displaying shut down message every 10 minutes help?

My mac mini 320 gb machine with the cd drive in it from the 2010 model keeps displaying the shut down message every time minutes and I don't have enough time to check everything and i need some help. Thanks

Here is a link to a system preference you can check.http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4014?viewlocale=en_US
    It is a security feature.
You did not mention it but are you using a movie player other than the provide DVD player or iTunes.  For example VLC.  If you are, for some reason OS X does not know what is going on, i.e. watching a movie, so it thinks you left.  So, after 10mins it trys to log off.  The annoying part is that it will not do a force log off if there are programs running.  Well atleast it is annoying to me.
    Good Luck,
    C.

  • My Mac Mini Won't Shut Down Properly

I recently upgraded to 10.6.2 after buying a mac wireless keyboard and magic mouse. Now I keep getting this problem where the OS won't shut down.
One of the symptoms is that when I move the mouse to the area at the top right of the screen with the clock, volume and wifi icons (is there a name for that?) I just get a spinning beach ball. The clock has stopped too! Also the volume controls from the keyboard don't work any more, even the remote control stops working. I can't shut down or sleep the computer, even 'about my mac' doesn't work.
Other applications seem to work OK and in Activity Monitor I don't see any unresponsive apps.
This hanging doesn't start straight away and two things that have set it off have been using the volume controls and when I tried to press ⌘-space to search for something.
I really don't know where to begin!

Still doing it! I disconnected all the USB peripherals and that was fine for a while, also removed stuff out of the task bar thing that I wasn't using.
Then re-connected the USB hub and it happened again... maybe it's something to do with that or just bad luck...

  • Mac Mini wont stay shut down

Hi. I have a mac mini. I bought it about april of '07. When i shut down my mac mini, it stays off for about five minutes and then turns back on automatically.
    anyone have this issue before?
    im running Mac OS X v 10.4.11

Open the Accounts preferecne pane and select your account. Click the Login Items tab. In the list you will then see, you should see one or more EyeTV applications (I can't recall the exact names, but it's clear what they are). Click to select it (or them) and then click the '-' button beneath the window to remove them.
That will delete the EyeTV scheduler/helper that is responsible for auto-waking systems.
Don't just UNcheck the application(s) because that merely hides them!

  • My Mac has started to shut down unexpectedly since we installed google chrome. Any ideas?

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and also installed Google Chrome. Since then our Mac will shut down unexpectedly. Any ideas?

    Hi, lindafrommendota.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your Mac restarts unexpectedly after the install of Google Chrome.  Here is a troubleshooting article that will walk your through some steps for this issue.  However, since this issue started once you installed a specific program, I would uninstall this program and test the results.
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."
    Cheers,

  • My new mac Mini (Feb, 2013) shuts down when we are listening to iTunes or Pandora.  Any thoughts?

After listing to iTunes or Pandora, our mini shuts down and requires us to log in again.  The mini was purchased in Feb of this year.  Any thoughts?

    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ Advanced... ▹ Log out after … minutes of inactivity: Off
If there's a closed padlock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane, you may need to click it to unlock the settings. Enter your login password when prompted.
Also check the Energy Saver preference pane for scheduled logouts or shutdowns.

  • URGENT Help: Mac mini starts up, then just "died down" (power down...)

Hello all. This is my sis's Mac mini Intel.
Was actually booting from Leopard OS X thinking of an upgrade OS, ran Disk Utility and it reported some error cannot be repaired:
    Invalid sibling link
    Volume check failed
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed
So I gave up the idea, quit the installer and restart, and press "Eject" to get the disc out.
*But now, it seems like when the Mac mini starts up, with the grey Apple logo and the spinning wheel, after a while, it just "stops", "fades away" and power off. Like a "sudden shut down" or "sudden sleep"*
So far I have *tried reset PRam* and also and SMU or something (plugging every cord out etc) but to no avail.
*HELP!! At least I want to be able to do a boot up to retrieve all the data before any hard re-format or something*
    Thanks and cheers

It is possible, with the errors Disk Utility reported, that some (possibly even all) of the files on the drive will be damaged or inaccessible, so it is best to proceed with some caution.
There are several possibilities for recovering the files, all dependent on the situation. You could, for example, remove the hard drive from the mini, fit it in an external drive case and connect it to another system. That would, in my view, be the best option. Alternatively, you might be able to get the mini into firewire target disk mode (hold the T key down during bootup) and connected (via firewire) to another Mac, rescue files that way, or boot the system from an external drive which has a valid MacOS install for that system, and then rescue files from the internal drive.
You may find, if the drive's data structure is corrupt, that even if you can access the hard drive via any of the methods above, you'll need a utility such as Data Rescue II (http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php) to locate and retrieve what you need. You might also consider use of a utility such as DiskWarrior (http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html) as a means to attempt a repair of the disk so that it can be returned to use - though this is by no means certain to succeed, and may not resolve potential data loss.

  • Why does starting and shutting down iTunes on my Mac stop movie from playing?

Every time I start or shut down iTunes on my Mac, the movie I'm watching on my Apple TV stops playing and goes back to the menu.  It also loses the spot in the movie, so I have to fast forward to my spot.  Extremely annoying.  EVERY TIME.

Unless it is actually associated with something not working, it isn't a problem. I've always seen it on my machine, which works perfectly and has done so for 2.5 years now.

  • As soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down

    Linc,
You keep showing up when I search for this problem so I hope you can help.
I'm having the same issue in Premiere and Media Encoder (but not After Effects). My Mac just restarts itself as soon as video is loaded. I can start Premiere and open a project and go through relinking media, but as soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down.
I've fixed the problem temporarily two times. The first time I was troubleshooting what was wrong and wound up putting in my old video card and after that fixed the problem, I switched back to my GTX 680. I also did a driver update. After doing that I was ok for a few days so I figured it was a driver thing or maybe the card just needed to be reseated. Then when it started acting up again I figured something was going on.
So I started searching again and came across one of your posts that recommended removing CUDA. I did that and it worked perfectly for a week until about 20 minutes ago. Crashed in the middle of an edit and now each time I restart Premiere it crashes as soon as video touches my monitors.
I found this post because I specifically searched for "com.nvidia.web.NVDAResmanWeb(8.2.7)" from my Problem Report.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Darren

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the shortened log. Here's the full thing. By the way, where do you learn to read these things? Are there keywords like "error" that you just learn to look for or is it something for in depth?
    Thanks,

  • Solved Vista Home Premium Start up / shut down loop

Ta Da    The  C:\windows\winsxs      ETC.       that was my solution  found it on this site and other sites and decided to try it:
It was actually the 3rd choice of solutions on that particular page  and  I could not complete the solution as directed because the files I was supposed to delete were not there, funnily enough that is why I chose that solution as I really did not believe it was an update error but may provide me with a    "Look Inside" .  So I followed along and it would not let me delete the file as instructed but it let me rename it   I did rename 1 file and rebooted. Everything proceeded as normal but it actually finished loading the NVidia driver for onboard graphics  ( which was where it was crashing ) and that was it.
I still dont know for sure why it would not load the driver and  I never did get any blue screens or failed update messages or error codes. On the upside I now have a working repair disk that I didnt have before, and created a backup that I didnt do before
I have an HP Pavilion  m 7580n   ( Media Center) that is locked in a start up shut down loop.
It starts normally and runs up normally until the desktop flashes on the screen for about 3 seconds. At this point It is still loading things like the Internet connection , Icon indicates connected, nvidia control panel icon. It never gets any further than that.....?
if I am  fast enough to dbl click an icon it will load whatever the icon represents but will immediately flash to the "Shutting down" screen. It then shuts down and auto starts the loop again.
I have  also tried   ctrl / alt / del   and I get there but it crashes instantly.
The machine is now running   Vista Home Premium.  Upgraded from XP by an online download so I have no OEM disk.
I dont know if it is 32 or 64 bit I would guess 32 as it was an XP upgrade
What I have tried so far
I have ruled out ANY Hardware problems by swapping hard drives and loading a different OS.   Win 7 on it and everything works fine for hours.  Benchmarks, stress tests, temp tests, games, mem tests
I have made a vista repair disk and tried all of the "Non Destructive" options  available.
I have tried every safe mode option.
I have hooked the problem hard drive to another computer and accessed it that way, and ran virus scanners
and clean and repair programs. No Bad sectors, clusters, nothing bad
I have removed all "Junk" and files I can replace
I have striped all unnecessary hardware. swapped RAM, Vid Cards  ETC.
I have tried all of the above both connected and not connected to the Internet and everything many times and many differant combinations.
Nothing has made any difference at all
A little history of the machine.
It was bought second hand with the Vista Installed and came with a paper  sticker with a hologram
and a Key That was apparently mailed after the online update ?
It was activated and displayed windows genuine logo in System Folder
It received updates automatically and by request no problems.
I mention this only because I cannot be absolute certain it is a legal copy and was wondering if this is some sort of disabling of pirated software or an expired demo?
It was used in a cottage  where it could possibly of had a power failure during an auto update. I mention this as some update problems resemble my problem. I have shied away from trying those fixes as they involve elevated commands and such and my knowledge in that area is very limited. and I dont have any of the stages loading screens
It would be easy for me to format and reload an OS But the files I want are protected and I cant access them from another computer.
I havent Listed any Hardware as I am satisfied it is not a hardware issue  However it is the  AMD X 2 64 version
Any Non hardware related suggestions would be appreciated as I am certain this hardware all works
I get no BSOD's no errors.
     Thanks for reading my lament

Do this, and while it is in the open re-examine your cpu pins w/ a bight light and hd zoom or a magnifying glass.
Thanks, xmad, I'll look at th CPU again tomorrow/next day under the glass when I take the board out.  I already checked them under magnification and was leaning toward a funky board, but it never hurts to re-check.  Eyesight is not what it used to be, for sure (I miss DOS, if that's a clue...).  Don't want to flash the BIOS if not necessary, since it runs Windows fine and everything works except that RAM.
Bernhard, I don't have CPU-Z installed on that machine and don't want to install anything else until it's working normally.  I'd never seen Click-Bios before and just need to get over my initial suspicion of something new!  Also learn my way around it before I change anything.  I'd never encountered a board reporting a bios different than printed on it.  I've never messed with manual memory settings or done more overclocking than just a little exploratory and suprisingly successful nudge - if you could point me toward a  good basic explaination of all those settings, I could learn from there.
    Appreciate your input very much.
Have learned a lot just reading the threads here for the last few days.  This is the best forum I've ever encountered.  I'll report back - some suggestions in other posts resembling my problem ended with no resolution, and that's a shame because one doesn't know if it worked or not.

  • Help, my mini REFUSES to shut down/restart

    Hey guys.
I'm looking for some help figuring out what is making my mini hang on shut down.
My icons all dissappear and then I just see the osx backdrop. From there the system refuses to take any keyboard input, though I can move the mouse around. It will just stay there untill I hold the back power button down long enough to force a shutdown. When I reboot it says osx shut down unexpectedly. I try to look at the log by clicking on that option but the log never shows up. My mini is two weeks old and running Tiger.
    Thanks for any help,
    Kal

All the icons dissappear but the normal apple backscreen stays. It never gets to a black screen. No the pinwheel is not spinning. I no longer have any usb devices plugged in. I have a g4 1.42 mac mini. I did not import any data from a previous system.
I have tried to reinstall osx but due to it not being able to restart it will not complete he install. I have left it on the screen for hours to see if anything would happen, but nothing.
I think I may just return it and get another. It just seems too new to be having such a problem. I have put very little software on and it is all mainstream software that should have no problems.
Thanks for the help guys. If there is anything you guys can think of that
I may do please let me know.
    Kal

  • Satellite P10 - start up/shut down are not working

I hope someone can help me. My Satellite P10 is having problems starting and shutting down.
When it starts up, it goes to a black screen with white wording, asking if I want to start windows normally, or in safe mode etc - it won't let me start it normally so I choose the option 'last good start up files' (or similar wording).
The pc then carries on starting up. I did a system restore but it's made no difference. Once it's started up, it's a lottery whether it's going to be ok, or whether it's in the process of crashing.
To shut down, I've got to push the off button, there's no other way it will shut down.
I've run avg, spybot, lavasoft adaware, xsoftspy, registry mechanic, spywareblaster etc but there doesn't seem to be anything 'wrong'.
The only thing I've installed recently is the new avg 7.5 and legacy family tree software - I downloaded both programmes from the manufacturers sites. Avg is free, although I might just have visited a crack site for the code for legacy :)
I would really appreciate it if anyone is kind enough to give me some advice :)

    Hi Joao
I have had a bit of luck so far - I downloaded a little executable which checks for trojans - I had been infected by ntrootkit. I managed to get rid of it (switch off system restore, run security software, edit registry & reboot) which has in turn sorted out the start up and shut down problems.
However, I'm still getting problems - when I start up, it's in the lap of the Gods whether I need to reboot before I can open my broadband software.
Also, when it's playing up like that, I get a 'beep' when I try to stop processes through task manager. I've got a horrible feeling that it's the motherboard. Once I've rebooted, it's fine again.
This is driving me nuts... if anyone has any ideas on this latest development, I'd be grateful!!
