Mac Mini stuck looking for Windows Boot Disk! Please help

Hi all, I've been running Leopard on my Mac Mini off a FireWire hard drive enclosure. The 750gb hard drive in the enclosure is a drive I used to have in my old iMac.
When I had my iMac I'd installed Windows via Bootcamp. So when running, the Mac Mini would show a Windows partition on the Leopard desktop. Today I needed to do something in Windows. so I went to Sys Prefs > Startup Disk and chose to reboot into that Windows partition. BIG MISTAKE
Now whenever I turn the Mini on it looks for a Windows partition and tells me it can't find one. I've tried resetting the PMU, booting from Leopard DVD, holding Option, nothing works. The only thing that will work is if I put a Windows XP disk in and it will try and take me through the install process.
How on earth do I get my Mac back booting into Leopard!?

I can't believe it was just the new Apple thin Alu Keyboard causing it! Plugged in an old Apple USB one and I got the Option startup menu straight away, totally bizarre!

Turn off your Mac by holding down the Power button. Then, turn it on and hold the Option (Alt) key until you see all bootable devices in the screen, so choose your Windows 8 disc and follow the steps to install Windows 8.1 > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf

Good catch. I would never have though of that since I eagerly anticipate each chance I get for a clean install.
I much prefer to get a clean start and consciously change the things I need to work - often I find that the defaults really are better and would otherwise be stuck in habit...

  • Mac mini g4 power pc won't download  please help I'm new mac

I have used Mac mini g4 2005 run Mac os x 10.3.7 but I can't Download. I don't know why is my forts Mac  and I think sale because I don't know how download  and also won't open YouTube too  please help thanks how configure please thanks

    Thanks for the suggestions.
I did try the DIMMs one at a time, plus in pairs, and no luck.
But I think you were on to something about trying a different CD. I don't have the System CD for this machine, nor do I have a System 9 CD. I had tried an OS X 10.3 installation CD and a Disk Warrior CD, but those wouldn't work. I did find an Apple Extended Care CD (which had a version of TechTools on it) that I got with my Powerbook, and lo and behold, the G4 started up off of that! So I turned off the machine, connected the hard drive again and restarted. It booted up off the hard drive and I was able to connect to the network and everything.
But then I got greedy. I thought whatever was wrong was now magically fixed (magic being my most relied upon Apple repair tool) and popped all the RAM back in. Turned it on, kernel panic. Darn. Took the RAM back out, turned it on, kernel panic. Uh-oh. So I put the RAM back in and tried to start it off the Extended Care CD again. It started up OK from the CD. Then I tried to boot from the hard disk again, and it booted up just fine, no problems at all. I had to reset the clock, but everything works.
So I still don't know what's going on with the machine. Maybe it was the battery after all, but it couldn't boot until something was reset. It's a mystery, I guess.

  • HOW DO I UNINSTALL WINDOWS 8.1 PREVIEW FROM MACBOOK PRO (SNOW LEOPARD)... CAN NOT FIND README FILE FOR WINDOWS PREVIEW. PLEASE HELP

how can i uninstall windows 8.1 preview from my macbook pro?? ive looked for over an hour for the readme file for the windows 8.1 preview and have had no luck. ive done almost everything i can think of at the moment and nothing is working. somebody please help, thanks

Windows 8.1 Preview cannot be uninstalled. However, if what you want is to remove Windows completely, start up in OS X, open Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps to remove the Windows partition.
If what you want is to install the final Windows 8.1 version, read this Microsoft support article > http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/update-from-preview

  • Mac Mini not detecting display....please help

I just bought a mac mini and the plan was to run it through my tv using an HDMI cord. When I go to set things up. I get to the display section in "system preferences" and I started playing around with resolutions to see which would work best with the tv that I have. All the sudden the tv screen went black and now the tv doesn't detect the mac mini through HDMI. After restarting the computer the apple logo would come up and everything would start to boot and then it's like the tv and computer would drop the signal. I don't think that it's something that I done with the resolution.
I checked and seen that this is a common problem, but I don't know how to fix this problem. Any advice is good advice and I really appreciate it.

Will that reset the display options?
    David.Austin.Allen wrote:
This is common if in trying new resolutions you hit upon one that is not compatible with your TV.
Restart pressing & holding the Shift key until the gray screen with the spinning cogwheel appears. This is a slower startup as the Mac is running self diagnostics. When the Desktop appears go to System Preferences and reset the resolution to the correct setting. Restart normally.

  • Superduper equivalent for Windows XP? Please help

    Hi all,
Does anyone know of an app that i can use to make a bootable copy of my Windows XP partition (done via bookcamp)? I prefer something on the Mac OS X side, but from what i've read, there doesnt seem to be one. So anything for Windows XP that can do the job like superduper would be great.
Fyi, superduper doesnt read my Windows partition as a source to backup, so that's why i cant use superduper.

  • Stuck at 50% during boot up, Please help

    I have a macbook pro 13.3 inch retina A1502 mid 2014
During boot up with the black screen and apple logo the progress bar gets stuck at 50%
    I've tried:
    -Fsck -fy
    -Safe boot
    -holding d (no problems)
    -disk utility (no problems
-Resteting nvram (cmd, opt, p, r)
I really don't want to reinstall os x and wipe my laptop. Are there any other options

The progress Bar appears when your Boot Volume will not mount. It runs fsck and shows the progress bar to try and fix that. It never gets all they way across because the last few items take so little time. If the drive still will not mount at the end of the check, your Mac cannot proceed, so it shuts down.
It appears, based on your description, that your Hard Drive has Errors late in the checking process, and hangs instead.
You may need a new Drive.
You can try a Re-Install-in-place, which will re-write a lot of blocks and may clear up the problem.
If you do not have a Trusted Backup, do not do anything else until you have one.

  • Partition for Windows XP. Please help.

I am going to install Windows XP using BootCamp on my MacBook. How large should the partition for XP be? Is it enough with 5GB? I will not install any extra programs for XP.

  • Looking for a new laptop, please help

I am looking into purchasing a new laptop in the next couple weeks in the $700 price range and am wondering what the best options are. I have basically narrowed it down to the Toshiba P745-S4217 and Asus U46E-BAL5. But I also like the sony VPCEG16FM/W and Toshiba R835-P70. Which one is the best bange for the buck? I want something that is fast and not to loud or overheat. I like having good speakers and something that is fast. I know the Toshiba R835-P70 is only 4GB RAM but is it that much slower then the ASUS U46E-BAL5 8GB? I dont do any gaming so that doesnt matter, will just use for school and surfing the web so want something that is fast and built to last a few years. If they are all pretty similar I am thinking the Toshiba P745-S4217 is probably best option due to speakers and blu ray. Finally, besides what is already listed on your site, are there any major differences or things I should know about the four computers I have listed. Thank you for your time and help. Feel free to offer any other suggestions for laptops as well.

No one can answer this for you.  You will get lots of opinions, but you have to decide which of those laptops is right for you.  You'll have to compare keyboards, screens, what software is loaded on it, etc.
Now, for my opinion (remember, you'll get lots of those):  Stay as far away as you can from Sony computers.  They are overpriced, and they have terrible build wuality.  Toshiba has been going downhill the last two or three years, but not as badly as Sony.  Asus products are pretty good, I would not hesitate to recommend them.  THey have been making motherboards for a long time.
Any computer in your price range will easily handle the tasks you stated.  "Fast" is a relative term, and when comparing, the figures are pretty much meaningless .  Another reason to do a hands on comparison in the store.
If a single model in your price range has a lot fo features that the others do not have, then be very wary...that usually means sub-par components used just to get better specs.

  • Mac mini stuck at gray screen HELP!!!!!!!!!

    Hi,
i have my mac mini stuck at a gray screen can you help me

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 3
If you use a wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse, replace or recharge the batteries. The battery level shown in the Bluetooth menu item may not be accurate.
    Step 4
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 5
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 6
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 6.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 7
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 8
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 9
Repeat Step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 10
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a boot failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 11
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

There is nowhere that you can download it from.  You need your Mac OS X install disk.  If you can't find it, you'll need to replace it.  Then you can install Mail from that disk.

  • Looking for Windows files on a Mac

On my Macbook Pro OS X 10.9.4 Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR 3 when starting a existing project I get a message about a file the program is not able to load.
So it asks me to point the location. The question is as follows: Where is the file 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiers Pro 1.5\Presets\Textures\Business Title_7.tga'?
I'm using a Mac and when I search for the file it's not on my computer.
It's looking for a file in a curtain folder.
Could you give an advise what to do?

    Hello A.T. Romano,
I’m using Adobe Premiere Elements 12
    Version 12.1 (20140225.12.1.620828)
I get the message when opening an already made project in which I added a Title.
In the ones without a title I don’t get the message.
So it is something connected to the use of titles.
I used RedBulbs as a title.
When I click ‚Skip’ or Offline my project opens correctly and I don’t miss any media. Even the title part is OK.
I hope this describes the problem enough and hopefully you can give me some advise.
    Best regards,

What version of Premiere Elements are you using on your Mac computer?
    Do you ever get this
    Where is the file 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiers Pro 1.5\Presets\Textures\Business Title_7.tga'?
when you open a new project or do you get this message only when you go to open an existing project?
If only for existing projects, then please tell us if this existing project was created with title templates and/or Instant Movie themes.
    If so please detail.
If you click "Skip" to the "Where is the file....?" message, does your project open without problem? And if so, do you see any missing media
displays in the workspace? And if so where?
We will be watching for your follow up.
    Thanks.
