I know several people has this problem. I cant get a picture to my samsung, I use a vga-cable. I tried almost everything. What can i do, I´m new to this.

You can in fact buy what you want, no need to go with Apple TV
To connect (wirelessly) your Mac to the HDMI on the TV:

How to hook up Mac mini w Samsung Le37R82BX tv?

I'm planning to purchase a Mac mini and use it with my Samsung LE-37R82BX LCD TV. Detailed specifications for the TV:

The questions I have before committing to buy:
1) Can I hook up the mini with the TV without distorting the picture? I don't want to have a separate monitor, and my main usage occasion would be viewing photos, videos, therefore no distortion is a must. I'm fine with having black stripes on the side of the picture, just don't want stretched image. The max resolution of the TV is 1366*768.
2) If the hookup is possible, what converter do I need to buy? I already have a HDMI-DVI converter (used it with my previous PC), is it ok to hook it up with the Mac Mini's Mini DV to DVI cable? Or should I buy a mini-DV HDMI adapter?

I use the included mini-DVI to DVI adapter with a DVI to HDMI cable and my picture is great on my 24" LG LCD HDTV. The mini should be able to provide that resolution without issue as long as it can read the resolution output from the TV accurately. Apple suggests that you connect the cables in what some think of as reverse. Start with the TV and work back to the Mac mini so that the mini gets a good read on the resolution requirements of the TV.

Mac Mini and Samsung 43" DLP HDTV gets Black Screen Only

Just bought a new Mac Mini with great anticipation for some large screen viewing.
After numerous attempts the Mini has yet to produce anything but a black image with the occasional red or white horizontal line on my 43" Samsung DLP TV. Not even a brief grey start up screen. Just permanently black.
Here's the kicker: I do get a great computer screen image on this 43" DLP TV in Mac OS 8.6 off my ten year old Macintosh PowerPC. (The trouble is it's a noisy older computer and has no bluetooth for wireless mouse & keyboard: and no Front Row with remote control)
I have the VGA cable connected to the "computer in" port on the back of the Samsung DLP TV .
This is with the exact same cable and connection that refuses to work with the Mini.
Earlier attempts at using the DVI port were unsuccessful so for now I am staying with what works on the older Mac.
Some other things I've tried:
-with my Mini hooked up to a 17" CRT Samsung monitor I have tried all available resolution settings at 60 Hz, reconnecting to my large screen Samsung each time, producing nothing but the black screen.
I've tried turning the TV on before the Mini and vice versa
I always check to make sure the PC connection is selected on the TV
As well, I have re-installed the OS onto the Mini to eliminate any possibility of a sofware conflict from data transferred from my Emac
After consulting an Apple technical page (article 303406) regarding Black Screen issues and Mac Mini on large screen HDTVs, I went into single user mode and changed some text as specified. That did't help either
So far I have never seen a grey startup screen at all, only a totally black screen.
Someone in a recent post here or on MacMini.com touched on impedence issues with signals into VGA or DVI ports. The Mac Mini operates on low voltage. Could there be some connection to how strong a signal it produces compared to my old PowerPC with its ATI graphics card?? And just why would that make a difference

Mac Mini 1.83 Intel Core Duo 512 Mb Ram Mac OS X (10.4.7) Emac; 604e PPC with G3 Upgrade & ATI Video Card

Just finished testing the Mini remotely with the use of the Redstone software recommended by BSteely in a previous post. Fun Stuff.
I saw the Mini "desktop" on my Emac screen and could control it remotely, even though the mini was connected to the large screen Samsung.
But the "fix" did not progress from there. When I called Apple for further help they were not able to help me tweak my Mini. Apparently there was nothing to tweak.
A second level Apple technician finally told me (after a few calls to both Apple support and Samsung) that this Mac Mini is likely not capable of producing a screen image on my large screen Samsung.
He said the Mini supports "Coherent Displays up to 154 Megahertz and Non Coherent displays up to 135 Megahertz". On his recommendation I checked with Samsung (second tier) and they are not sure exactly what that means. Same here.
Samsung did reply that the "pixel clock (of this HDTV) is 74.2 Megahertz". Again, too technical for me.
The latest second tier Apple guy just told me said that my Samsung 43" DLP is probably not compatible with the output capability of my Mac Mini.
Bottom line
It's all about the output capabilities of the Mini's "Intel Extreme Graphics GMA
The Mini's video output is not upgradeable like the other mac which works with this HDTV.

Mac Mini to Samsung LE37R87BDX 37" VGA to Pc Input - No Display

I have a mac mini 1.66 Intel running 10.4.11, into which I've got the VGA adapter plugged, this is cabled with a VGA cable into my nice new Samsung LE37R8 flat panel LCD on the pc port.
The image flicks up briefly, but then it goes black and it won't display.
Connect the same machine up running windows XP under boot camp and bingo, it works beautifully.
Oh and I've tried a windows pc running xp as well and that displays also, so I'm pretty much convinced there's nothing wrong with the tv or the cable.
I think it must be the Os settings..
The odd thing is that I can remote desktop to the mac mini and it detects the display correctly, as far as I can see, even listing 'Samsung' as the colour profile and the changing the resolution to a supportable (well, as far as I can see from the tv's manual) to 1366x768 at 75hz.
I've tried changing the resolution, 1024x768, 800x600 etc etc, changed the frequency to 60, but to no avail.
Anyone got any ideas?

I am having an identical issue with an intel dual core mac mini and a 50" plasma Samsung TV (PS50Q97HD). I've sucesfully connected my mac to a 17" LCD monitor with the DVI-VGA adapter and I've connected a windows XP laptop to the Samsung TV using a VGA cable.... but I have had no success with the mac to Samsung connection. Mac mini and samsung tv

attached mini to my samsung 23" LCD hdtv via DVI cable.
I get a picture but there is a black margin around the display.
On boot up the display is full screen but reduces when OS is loaded.
Display is currently 1280*860 (I think - I'm at work at the moment) at 60h
Tried switchres to change to TV to its native 1360x760 (60h) but the resolution never appears in the active column.
Any ideas?

I'm using the same type of TV, and I had the same problems with DVI. VGA is the way to go, particularly now that I'm using HDMI for hi-def TV (so I just press the "input" button to swap between sources).
However, my full screen display started failing 2 weeks ago. That was when I installed the EFI firmware update.
Now my screen has "shifted" up a little. The top of the screen image is chopped off (about a quarter of the menu bar) and a thin strip at the bottom of the screen now has random dots on it. It looks like the wrong part of RAM is being sent to the video output! I'd recommend against this upgrade if you don't already have it.

A little help please. I have just purchased a mac and mac mini. I would like the I Mac to run as the master and the mac mini to work on the tv downstairs.
The mac mini works when connected to a monitor however when I try to connect it to my tv my screen is black.
I am currenlty trying to connect via pc connector lead as there was nothing else in the store so I am connecting via mini dvi adapter to DVI cable to female connector to pc slot in the back of the tv!
And its not working.
I have downloaded chicken of the VNC onto the I Mac and have installed some program called Display config X. however whenever I plug it in it doesnt seem to want to play.
Any thoughts or should I abandon the pc connection on the tv!

I have a mini connected to my Samsung.
I have a miniDVI to DVI adapter that came with the computer linked to a DVI to HDMI cable.
I've since learned you can buy a miniDVI to HDMI cable, thus eliminating the need to the connection, which is probably a good thing.
In any case, if you can go into the HDMI slot instead of the PC slot, you will likely have better results.
This is my second Samsung TV. The first one actually had a DVI in to begin with. But it was smaller than my iMac screen, and I needed binoculars to read it from across the room.
I also had to do an adjustment to get the menu bar to display properly. It was a rescan or something. Search the forums for my name and Samsung and you will find it.

Mac Mini HDMI Samsung HDTV colors washed out

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Just upgraded from a 2009 Mac Mini to a new one. Using HDMI, the colors are washed out and off (greenish purplish) at the default 1360 x 1768. If I pick one of the other (like 720p) the colors are right but resolution is screwy. Any thoughts?

If you haven't already, make sure all firmware
is up to date. There has been some recent updates
that may not have made it to your machine.
As for the 720p issue, go to the Samsung setup
screen that deals with screen size and set the mode
to "Fit to Screen". Pretty sure it says that or something
similar.

Mac Mini to Samsung HDTV

My new mini should be here Wed. I was going to connect it to my Samsung HDTV. I just noticed that the mini has a DVI-I connection in back, while my TV has a DVI-D connection in back. Is there a cable for this? I'm not having much luck finding one.

Basically, the mac mini having a DVI-I plug is good, meaning it can go either way -- DVI-A (analog) or DVI-D (digital). You will simply want a DVI-D cable to connect to your TV, and you should be good. a DVI-I cable would also probably work.

Original Mac Mini with Samsung P2770h LCD

Yesterday I picked up a Samsung P2770h from CostCo. Swapped out my old Viewsonic 22" LCD and it worked perfectly on my Windows 7 system, but not my Mac.
I've tried booting in Safe Mode, but nothing appears on the display. I've tried DVI-DVI and DVI-HDMI.
I've tried booting with the Viewsonic and then swapping the cable to the Samsung, but apart from an occasional flicker, I have a blank display
I checked the ATI website for new drivers for the Radeon 9200, but it said Apple provides them.
I vaguely remember having to change a setting when I first got the Viewsonic, but I can't seem to find the information.
Any help is much appreciated. The new display is so good on my Windows 7 system, but if I can't get it to work on my Mac it will probably go back !!!

Ok, after several hours more testing, I am making some progress. By logging in to the Mac remotely using LogMeIn I can see what is going on even if the Samsung monitor goes blank. I can successfuly set the Mac screen resolution to anything, except the native 1920x1080 The next highest is 1600x1200 and it works fine, but is far from ideal. So my conclusion so far is that the graphics card can't support 1920x1080 which is disappointing, but not that surprising given the fact that this Mac Mini is 5 years old !!! But I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable will prove me wrong

Mac Mini and Samsung 42" Plasmas

I'll be purchasing a Samsung HP-T4234 plasma soon and have noticed it will handle a PC signal of 1024x768. I realize it's not a very sharp resolution, but will it fill the entire widescreen? IT won't need to be stretched, will it? I'm not too sure of these types of things, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am using the Samsung 204B, not sure if this is similar. I have an XP Pro machine (older) and my Mac Mini (current version) on a DVI KVM switch. I noticed if you loose the connection to the Windows PC I have to restart the computer to get the display back.
My video for the Mini would drop out every so often. I had to download SwitchResX and set up a custom setting of 1600x1200 with a 135MHz pixel clock for the monitor to work well with the Mini.

I use the DVI to HDMI cable for the video signal. If your Monitor has HDMI connection, then that is what I would use.

Of course. If you have got a new Mac mini (Mid 2010 or newer one), it has got a HDMI port, so you can use a HDMI cable to connect the Mac mini to your Samsung Smart TV in order to use it as a monitor.
If you have got an older Mac mini, you will need different adapters like a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter or a DVI to HDMI adapter, depending on the Mac mini model

Mac Mini vs Samsung LE46F86b

Just received my mac mini which is going to be my media center. Hooked up to my samsung LE46F with a VGA cable. Now the TV is saying "not competible"!? I was planning on buying a DVI-HDMI cable anyway, but now I am wondering. If the VGA connection is not working, is the DVI-HDMI going to work?

OK, I tried a couple of things. First of all, this:

The problem described is exactly my problem. I see the apple logo at first, but when OSX starts, the message is on the TV is "Not supported". Checking the manual of the TV tels me its supporting 1280x960 at 60hz. When i set the mac mini on this setting with a normal LCD screen and the plug it in the TV, it just doesn't work
I ‘am doing it wrong? That’s why I have another question. Starting up in Single-User Mode, is it necessary to do that whiles connected to the TV? I can't do that either because the TV in Single-User Mode is also saying "Not supported". I gave the commands as suggested in the above article when I was connected to a normal 19” LCD monitor.

No sound on mac mini with samsung monitor using hdmi

I have a new mac mini which is hooked up through an HDMI cable to a Samsung L2350 monitor. How can I get sound out of the monitor? Right now, nothing is coming out. I've made sure my setting are correct but still no luck.

Which Samsung Monitor....?
A Google Search > Samsung L2350 - Google Search does not turn up any Samsung monitors.
Check your Sound Preferences.
If you don't see the HDMI option in the Sound Preference, try going to the Audio MIDI Setup in Applications Utilities.
If the Sound Preference and Audio MIDI Setups are set correctly, then perhaps you need to either explore the Samsung Manual or try a different HDMI cable.
