Mac Mini to YUV (Component) projector

How can I hook up my Mac Mini via YUV cable to a YUV projector ? Bought a DVI to YUV adapter, but it doesn't work. No picture at all.

You can't unless you purchase an expensive translation box. A simple DVI-to-YUV adapter will only work on displays that have component inputs that are switchable to be computer RGB compatible. Check the manual of the projector. It might have this feature.

Mac Mini DVI to component adaptor

recently purchased a DVI to component adaptor but the Mac Mini uses a different video card. I have also searched the discussion area and found many questions on this topic but very few answers.
I know that I could use a DVI to composite or S-Video but I want to use component. If anyone who has a new Mac Mini has gotten a cable that works please let me know from where.
Additionally, I tried to use DVI to VGA to component, heard through the grapevine that it might work, but again no luck. If someone has gotten that to work, what adaptors are you using.

DVI to component adaptors exist, but they're not made by Apple or for Apple systems. Original poster has purchased a third party one for a PC video card that does support component output.
Apple provides no solution for this. Only option is to buy the svideo one, or buy an external AV receiver/switcher, DVI to HDMI cable, and plug it in by that, and output from the AV receiver using component.

New Mac-Mini on a 1080p projector

Would the new mac mini (with leopard) work well with a 1080p projector (Marantz 15s1) using dvi to vga connection? I tried connecting my Macbook Pro to the projector and the picture looks soft even when I selected 1080p resolution on the macbook pro. The projector confirmed that it's displaying 1080p but the picture is still not as sharp as using a windows based pc.

The EMI filters are based on tiny surface mount parts, so I would say trying to bypass them would be very difficult without a schematic and layout diagram and a lot of skill.
Can you at least temporarily connect the MBP to an HDMI port on the projector just to confirm that the fuzziness goes away? That would at least confirm my hunch that the problem is related to filtering of the analog video. If the fuzziness is still present under HDMI, then there is some other issue to be addressed.

Mac Mini with BenQ W100 Projector (No signal with DVI Dual cable)

Hi all, just bought a Mac Mini Intel 1.6ghz. Also have a BenQ W100 Projector which have been using for some months with a PC. Now comes the problem! I have bought a DVI-DVI cable (Dual link) and plugged the Mac into the Projector and NOTHING APPEARS! No source found at all. The input on the projector is DVI-I according to the BenQ website.
Question is, am i using the right cable? Is the Mac Mini even compatible with this projector? Nobody seems to know, even BenQ!!

Hi, FYI this is the cable I have. Strangely it only references HD sources and not computers on the description? I would note that PC World (where i bought it from) have shown this cable operating on a PC unit and LCD monitor so im presuming its nothing to do with the cable?)

I used a VGA to DVI cable when the PC was running on the projector. which shows a picture no problem. I tried using the DVI/VGA adaptor that came with the Mac then plugging the VGA-DVI cable into it. As i say no picture just a flicker now and then.
I have tested Mini and he works fine on a LCD TV using the VGA/DVI adaptor and a standard VGA-VGA cable.
I guess i will exchange the cable and see what happens!

Intel Mac Mini video outpot to component video

I am looking for an adapter/converter that allows me to connect the video output of my Mac Mini to a component video receiver. I currently use a Marantz S8001 receiver with multi-room capability but unfortunately the multi-roon video switching capability on it does not support composite, DVI, or VGA input.

What happens when you click on the scaled item in System Preferences>Displays>Display? What option are shown?

If you press ALT with clicking on Scaling, it will give you ALL the available resolutions. I was able to select 1920x1080, but needed a smaller res. the 1280x768 is what I chose. works like it's supposed to.

Mini DVI to Component possible

All I have available on my tv is a remaining Component input and the optical port for sound. Is there a cable or box to convert the mini DVI out from the mac mini into a component out, or not?

Widescreen TV resolution (unsupported?) intel mac mini

I'm having problems setting the mac mini up to my tv, i'm in the uk so no HD yet but the resolutions the mac mini with dvi-component adapter is displaying only have 4x3 aspect ratios, so when watching widesreen tv or movies it double letterboxes them. Is there any way i can force the mac mini to display at 1024x576 rather than just giving me the options of 720x576, 800x600 and 1024 x 768. I remember on older mac with older monitors there was abutton in teh system prefs which allowed you to display resolutions that might not be supported is there any way around this?
It doesn't appear to be the tv as when hooked up to a powerbook the display options are far greater and include 16x9 meaning tv and movies are displayed full screen.
On the plus side it is seriously fast, with handbrake in universal binary it runs 3-4 times faster than my powerbook, 15fps on the 1.67ghz pbook and 60fps on the mac mini, which compares well to 37fps average on a mates dual 1.8ghz G5 nice.

I have the same sort of problem with a brand new Dual Core Mac Mini and a Pioneer Elite PRO-710HD. The TV is quite capable of handling 1080i input via the VGA/RGB jack, but the Mini won't give me 1920x1080 as a resolution option. I've currently got it set to 640x480, which displays fine, but I really want the higher resolution to work.
If anyone can point me to a guide to hacking the display settings tables that Display Preferences uses to figure out what a particular display is capable of, that would be great. I tried the restart with cmd-opt-a-v and that didn't change the available options (which are many, btw, but none with 1080 as a vertical resolution option, 1050 and 1200 being the closest and they don't work).

Mac mini, macbook + DVI to HDMI + projector = No soup for you!

This is driving me nuts!!! I have tried 3 different macs, 4 completely different cables/adapters and they all do exactly the same thing.
1. I connect the mac to the DVI to HDMI cable and/or adapter combo, then connect to the projector
2. I get 2-30 seconds of wonderful projector screen usage (it works, picture looks crystal clear)
3. Then POOF! No projector signal, though it appears mac recognizes the projector.
I can repeat from 1 using a different adapter and/or cable and I get exactly the same results, but if I re-use the same cable I used previously, I get no signal at all.
What the $%@! is going on here??? Is Apple black-listing my cables or something??? I'm using everything from cheap-o cables to $$$ cables with exactly the same result.I run this projector with absolutely no problem from a dell desktop via DVI to HDMI.
For what it's worth, I'm connecting to a LG HS201 projector.

Since in your case the common factor is your projector and not the computer or cables it might be it at fault. Early HDMI products did have HDCP handshaking problems.
People have been using Mac minis as media center computer with HDMI for ages since the Mac mini is small and quiet, this probably goes back as far as G4 models let alone Core2Duo models.

Mac-Mini HTPC Video-Out Problems (Component to DVI)

I recently decided to go with a Mac-Mini as the central-brain of my HTPC configuration, and I was immediately halted in the process of getting things working by my inability to properly output video from the Mac-Mini such that it's even visible on my 50" Plasma TV (Panasonic TH-50PHW3).
Neither of my A/V Receivers (Denon AVR-3805 & Denon AVR-2805) have HDMI inputs, but both of them have component video inputs for HD content, so I purchased the DVI-to-Component cable linked below to use for outputting video from my Mac-Mini to the Denon:

From other threads I see that others have tried and failed at this. The adapter cables don't work with the Mini (or other Macs as far as I know). Apparently you need a "transcoder" box. It will apparently take the DVI port's RGB signals and convert them to Y-Pb-Pr component signals.

Composite is analogue with one connector. That is why it is called composite
Component is analogue with three connections. I think one for each color

Mac Mini to Component/S-Video based HDTV

Im thinking of getting a mac mini to connect to my TV. The TV i have only has component and s-video input. i read that the dvi-component converter that apple has is not good for display, only for movies and such. is there anyway i can get clear resolutions on the TV so that my TV can be the main moniter for my mac? IT doesnt have to be HD or anything, just clear enough for me to surf the web and use final cut and other apps.

You are just going to have to try and decide for yourself if it is clear enough for your purposes. Your only option is S-Video because the mini can't output a component compatible signal.

Hitachi PJ-TX300 projector and Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo?

My PJ-TX300 projector is hooked up via its PC connector to my Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo, via a DVI to VGA adapter (which came with the Mini from Apple) plugged into the Mac mini. I cannot get a clear screen picture at any resolution: there is always ghosting. Can you advise me?

Ghosting would typically implicate the video cable. Where did you get it? It sounds like you may have a very cheaply constructed VGA cable and a better one is needed.

Problem with Mac Mini and Panasonic PT-AE700 projector

I just bought a brand new Mac Mini and intended to connect it through hdmi to my Panasonic PT-AE700 projector (with a 10 m hdmi-hdmi cable and a dvi-hdmi adapter). However there is no signal recognized by the projector.
Any suggestions? I have tried with two different dvi-hdmi adapters between the Mini and the cable. Both work fine with my MacBook Pro, but with the Mini there is no signal.

Unfortunately I still haven't been able to get anything out from the projector through HDMI.
However, I've found someone with a similar problem. It seems the problem is the lenght of the HDMI cable (which in fact is closer to 15 m than 10 m). HDMI is designed to handle at least those 10-15 m runs, but the problem seems to be DVI, which is only capable of something around 5 m. Since I'm converting from DVI to HDMI, I'm subject to DVI's limitations. And the MBP seems to have better capability of handling the weaked signal than the Mini.

Gefen should have an amplifier (HDMI Super Booster) that could solve the problem. I just ordered it to see if it could help in strenghtening the signal and solve the problem for me.

I intend to buy a Mac Mini to use as a media center with my TV and projector. Scaning some discusion forums, I understand it is not likely to be plug and play. The intention is to feed a Optoma HD-70 with a DVI-D to HDMI cable. Will this work? Anyone have experiences?
