Mac mini turns off without any reason

My Mac mini turns off without any reason. I just want to make a backup with time machine and after a while the computer doesn´t work anymore. I just see the start-screen with all the users and I had to sign with my user password. After the mac restarts, I had to start time machine again. I stopped energy-management, because I thought that might be the problem but not. Time machine should work the whole night, but I don´t want to sit the whole time next to the mac to wake him up every several minutes. What can I do?

Satellite A75-S229 often turns off without any reason, everything ok with the AC power, the battery is allways remaining 100%. What's wrong? maybe the battery is too old (about 2 years) and need to be changed?
    THANX!

    Hi
Was the AC adaptor connected to the notebook during the automatically shut downs?
If yes then I dont think the old battery is a reason for the shut downs.
I presume this is a simply overheating issue. Did you ever clean the cooling modules in this notebook?
The notebook is about two years old and maybe a dust and debris inside the notebook could have a bad influence on the air circulation.
I think the professional fan cleaning will help to avoid the random automatically shut downs.

my macbook pro won't turn on without any reason, is there any solution in this case?

You need to hit the "reply" button on post to whom your responding too, it's hard to tell if your responding to me or someone else.
small button on the side of the computer and didn't lightting up( no reponse at all). is their any problems do think with the battery?
Usually if your battery is dead because it wasn't charged you can do the SMC Reset and then check the Magsafe if it's connected and showing the orange light, then let the battery charge up.
Once the battery charges up, the computer will boot normally and then you have to reset the PRAM, time, date etc.

  • Mini turning off without reason

    Hi all,
I am a bit ****** today, since this morning my so far beloved mini stopped working. I just went of during a normal Safari session. I tried restarting everything without luck. After a while I figured out that unplugging the PSU from the wall outlet and waiting 10/15 seconds will eventually help. So I did and the mini booted up again. Tried to analyze the issue without luck.
So I decided to make a backup of all data first. Backup started but about 10 minutes later mini turned off again.
I tried pretty much everything I can think of (unplugging all devices, resetting PMU) without luck. I also opned the case and tried it open to see if it is a heat problem (allowing more air).
    Again the symptoms:
    - Suddenly turned off
    - will not turn on unless unplugged from wall for about 10/15 seconds
    - time staying on varies from 10 seconds (not enough to boot up) to about 10 minutes (not enough to work)
    - fan seems to work, I can hear noise and feel the air flow
    - Neither PSU nor mini itself feels extraoprdinary hot
So I am at the end of my wisdom. Any hints?
Obviously my mini just ran out of AppleCare in august. Great timing!!
If I cannot find any idea I will bring it in tomorrow to analyze, may be it is a small thing .....
Any idea would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Daniel

Sorry to hear about you Mini's problems.
I'd suggest running the hardware diagnostics. You do this by starting the Mini from install disc 1 while holding down the "D" key until you see the "gear" spinning on the screen.
Hopefully the Mini will run long enough to get diagnostic results.
Also, if you are near an Apple Store, perhaps they could check the power supply of the Mini.

  • Why does my mac mini turn off by itself?

My 2009 mac mini turns itself off after a few minutes. This started after a power failure. Might the logic board be fried?

    1. Reset the SMC, as per > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Zap the NVRAM/PRAM, as per > About NVRAM and PRAM
    3. Boot into Safe Mode, as per > Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
Then boot back into normal mode and if it is still turnning itself off...?
Run the Hardware test, as per > Using Apple Hardware Test

  • Mac Pro turns off for no reason

For the past week or so my Mac Pro is on occasion just turning off, as if the power cord had been suddenly pulled. But only the Mac itself is cutting off, the monitor and other peripherals in the room remain running. There's no dimming in the power as far as I can and after today I don't believe that it is a power surge or loss that is causing the problem. Today the computer has started almost continually turning itself off after shorter and shorter time periods. Just winks out. I've checked all the plugs, ran DIsk Utilities and have the most current OS version installed.
I'm stumped and find that with the machine only staying on for 5 minutes max now that my ability to tech the machine is severely hampered. Any ideas where to begin to look?

A UPS protects your equipment and extends the life probably of components, like modem and the rest, and keeps it running better with fewer problems. I would never run a workstation and $5000+ of equipment (and data has value) without. While no single power conditioner can correct all power quality problems, many can correct a variety of them.

Surge strips have their place, just not going to do a lot to clean or condition voltage or some problems, and sometimes just a way to overload an outlet. I've found the best surge protectors in hardware supply store.

  • Mac mini turns off after watching movie in front row

we were watching movies through front row on my mac mini (intel core duo from 2004, 1 gb processor) and it turned off a few times, all within about 15-30 minutes of each other. I just upgraded to leopard a few months back but have not had any issues until now. the mac mini is also connected to a hard drive where we store our movies.
Has this happened to anybody else?

I have the same problem. It's pretty annoying and renders the app useless. For now I solved the problem by preventing my Macbook going to sleep via the power settings. Since this is a waste of energy, I would appreciate any suggestions.

  • PWG4 12 inches turn off without any warning still 47% bat

    Hi
Is anyone have this problem before, whithout any warning my PBG4 12I turn off even if is still have power in battery 40 to 50%, The only way to turn it on is to plug it and it came alive again.
By the way i dont remember wher to set the warning time % of battery,i check in pref sys pwr energy on battery mode see nothing.
    Thanks for help

This is the sign of a lithium battery almost on it's last legs, and it's not an unusual indicator. You can charge it up, and somewhere below 50%, it will just go to zero, shutting the computer down. It happens so quickly you don't get a warning. IF the battery stats are still good, you probably have a fair number of cycles on the battery.
Time for a new battery. Recommend either an OWC battery, which has gotten good reviews here, and can be seen at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/powerbook/battery/g4-12inch-aluminum/ or an Apple battery, although the comments on the Apple web site are not very positive.

  • Mac momentarily turns off for no reason?

My mac just randomly shut off for like 2 seconds. The screen was black and i couldn't even hear the slight noise from the internal hardwares. Then after the 2 seconds, everything returned to normal and the computer started to work again. I believe I wasn't doing any processor intesive task at that moment. So will this harm the laptop? Is there anyone who already had this problem before? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  • My mac pro shut down without any reason!

I have a Mac Pro 8 core XEON with OSX LION, 22gb Ram, Ati 1gb to conect an Apple Led Cinema 27" anda Apple HD Cinema 23", two hard drives 1tb and 350gb, 2 external hard drives 500 gb, and 1tb.
Now frequenly my mac shut down without anyreason, sometimes doesnt start up properly and a i have to restart.
What can i do to solve this problem?
I have my mac pro and all the other thins conected to an UPS.

    diapoh wrote:
i think maybe is the operating system! i don´t know! theres not reason for over-heating...
Mac pro's are "dust magnets" and suck it in all the time it's on.  Open you mac pro (you won't harm it) and drag you finger across some of the bear metal parts.  Can you write "wash me" on it like a dirty car?   Probably can.
This same dust gets on (an in) everything inside.  All the air intakes and exhausts and components.  The video card has the same problem.   The dust builds up on all these components so they don't dissipate the heat as efficiently and end up running hotter and hotter as more dust builds up.
This was the reason my first suggestion was blow out the dust (and if there's enough dust do it outside so you don't breath it in yourself).
As mentioned above you should install a temperature monitoring utility like iStat Pro, iStat Menus, Temperature Monitor, Hardware Monitor, etc.  Then you can monitor many of these temps yourself.

  • Macbook switch off without any reason...

    hi there!
maybe that question was asked before and then sorry for this but my bad english don't allow me to look easily for older topics.
    so here is the problem:
my macbook (10.8.5) often switch off even if i'm 70% charged (or more) if i'm not plugged. Then i can't put it on if i don't plug the macbook before.
i first thought that the battery was in bad ealth, but it's not (one and half year old, more than 75% of lifetime according to "coconut battery" software.)
I secondly thought that the processor was overheating, but by checking it's temperature, i know its not.
i heard that there was the same kind of problems on the 10.4.8 version generated by a kind of problem of transmission inside the computer (not sure exactly) and apple published a software whitch resolved that stuff. i got it but as it was for an older version, my macbook doesn't take it.
Do you know if there is a newer version of that software?
here is a link of the old one: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1599?viewlocale=en_US
maybe this is another problem, but i hope not and i wish you can help me.
thanks for reading me (and i hope understanding me!)

    Two readings concern me:
full charge capacity (mAh) : 3078
    cycle count : 465
That is a very low full-charge capacity, and a very high cycle count. When batteries get older, and their cycle counts get higher, they can report incorrect information to the system about, for example, how much charge is left. Batteries can also become less stable and less able to handle fluctuations in power demands. Apple usually states that their batteries should offer good performance for 300 cycles, and you have gotten many more than that.
I suspect you need a new battery.

  • Boot Mac Mini w/Bluetooth without Keyboard/Mouse attachted

    Hi,
I´m trying to boot a Mac Mini with Bluetooth without any Keyboard/Mouse attachted to it.
It doesn´t work. Every time the Mac stucks at looking for Bluetooth devices.
    Running 10.4.11
    Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot,
    seb

    already tried this one!
That would have been helpful to know from the beginning so we don't waste our time with things you've already tried. What else have you already tried to troubleshoot this situation?
Maybe you need to delete that preference file, as it's clearly not working correctly? This file is not in your own user's home folder, but in the root "Library" folder in this path:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
Put that file in the Trash, restart, log back in, delete the trash, and uncheck the option again in the System Preferences. Does it stick now? Or have you tried that already too?
