Mac mini TV help please!

Hey,
I just connected a friends mac mini to my philips 30" LCD through a VGA port...
was working great on 1280 x 1024 res (except it didnt fill the width) then i tried 1280 x 960 which looked sharper but still didnt fil the full width - then i hit 1280 x 768... tv screen went black and a "unsupported video input" message appeared (tv generated)
Tried restarting both... repeatedly - everything goes fine up to the mac login screen - after that the same message appears again... and again and again... etc
tried resetting factory settings on the tv... everyting i can think of... cant understand why it appears fine up until login... then nothing!
do i need an adaptor? there's a vga adaptor on the mini already as it was hooked up to a siemens flat panel monitor? is this a wrong adaptor?
CAN ANYONE HELP? - please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks,
Gar

  • DVD Trapped in Mac Mini! Help please!

    Hello,
I've got myself into a bit of a sticky situation with my mac mini so I hope someone can help...
I inserted a dvd disc which the drive cannot read. The drive mechanism is continually trying to read the disk but because it doesn't mount, os x doesn't seem to want to let me eject it (I've got a keyboard with an assigned eject key so I was using that). I've now turned off the mac but is there any way for me to force an eject on the drive?

    Hello
Problem solved! Thanks for your suggestions! I don't think the mac mini has a little eject hole and I've got a microsoft wireless keyboard so I'm not too sure which keys are mac specific keys.....
When I switched on the mac I held down shift and then periodically pressed command-E. I'm not too sure what I did but the machine finally spat the disc out!
    Thanks

  • Add external storage to increase mac mini capacity help!

We have a Mac mini mountain lion server with 1 Tb storage. We have 12 macs file sharing off the mini. We have maxed the 500 gb storage. We have purchased a 4 tb storage to extend the drive so we can keep adding to the files. It is a mini stack with FireWire. How do I install this so the additional 4 tb can be added to the existing Mac mini server? Please help thanks.

Realistically you cannot just join it to the internal drive to make one bigger one. (There is a way but it is a bad idea.)
What you can do is move the shared files to the external drive, or have some on the internal, and the rest on the external. I would recommend just using the external. You would then use the internal drive for booting, and the external drive for data.
Are you just referring to file-sharing or other uses?
For file-sharing it would basically be copy the existing folder(s) to the external drive, unshare the internal drive folders, and share the drive or folder(s) on the external drive.

    Hi,
Is there an iPhone involved ?
If not, what happens  if you remove the Apple ID on the iPad and then set it in Airplane Mode (allow a couple of minutes at this point) followed by re-adding the Apple ID ?
What, if any error messages are appearing on the Mac when you try to launch the App or Login to the iMessages server ?
Is the Apple ID linked to an iCloud account ?
In Messages 7 (Mountain Lion) this did not seem to be important but it seems it is in Mavericks/Messages 8

I recently updated my iphone software and now I can't upload photos from iphone to mac computer. Help please.

The following link has 2 methods for importing photos to a Mac (not counting Photo Stream). Are you using iPhoto or Image Capture? If you follow the steps in the link for that method, what exactly happens that doesn't allow the upload? iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

  • Keynote crash on bare bones Mac Mini.  Help anyone?

    Hi there,
I'm using a new Mac Mini 2011 (2.3 Ghz, 2GB RAM, i5, Lion) to drive a public facing 55" 1080p HD TV in a retail venue.  Obviously, we want a stable system that doesn't crash.  I've only installed one piece of software on the Mini--Keynote.  I built a small (but transition complex) Keynote presentation and it runs 24/7.  On the third day of running, it "quit unexpectedly".  lol.  That's supposed to sound so much better than "crashed", right?  Anyway, it's obviously a public embarassment to have your promotional display fail.
I cannot understand WHY a stock mini with only Keynote installed should crash even IF the entire system and slideshow is running 24/7.  And I have NO idea how to troubleshoot this.  The only plausible explanation I can think of is a memory leak in Keynote.
Does anyone have some suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  It pains me to have a public display showing a Mac crash.  I expect this with Windows, but not with a Mac.
    Thanks!

More memory may help. I installed 8 GB ($44 from Amazon). It also bumps up the shared video memory to 512 MB.

  • Unable to install OS X Mavericks to main HDD on Mini. Help Please!

Hello, I'm having a difficult time installing the update from Mountain Lion to Mavericks. I had no trouble when I updated to Mountain Lion. I downloaded the Mavericks update but when it comes to the point that I need to select the disk where I want to install it is where I get stumped. I try to select the main hdd but it wont let me and I get a message in a liitle box above the main hdd icon saying "This disk is used for Time Machine backups". The problem is that it's not true. I have a seperate external HDD for my Time Machine backups. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance for any help!!

So if I have DDR2 Ram, there is no possibility of upgrading to Mavericks?
I installed mavericks onto an external hard drive (using a backup of my early
2011 mac book pro), tried to boot it with my early 2008 macbook and
this is what the screen looks like. Hoping to install Mavericks on my early 2008 macbook too.
    Any advice would be appreciated

  • Downloaded tv show episodes. Bought the entire season and after watching one and downloaded first 4-5 they disappeared.  This was during the time I was trying to migrate stuff from an older mac mini. Help?

I downloaded several episodes of the tv show "touch."  I purchased the entire season and had watched one show.  It took quite some time for each show to download, but I had downloaded 4-5.
About this time (within the last two weeks) I was trying to use migration assistant to migrate information from my older mac mini and my macbook.  while I was able to move things from my older mac mini I noticed that the tv show went missing.
Also I purchased a program called 'Touched" in a season pass.  After I downloaded a couple of episodes I watched one and continued to download the episodes as they were available.
I also purchased a program called "Tune Up" which elminates duplicates of iTunes songs.  I have a large collection and this helped to get rid of the duplicates faster than clicking on them one at a time.  Maybe this had something to do with the tv shows episodes and the podcasts disapeering.
    Any ideas?

    This may help
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
As far as the TV series being in 1080p then that is upto the content provider and some older seasons are in 720p or only SD eg Stargate
It may well be that the season you want is only available in 720p

  • Can't intall OS X on Mac Mini! Help!

    Hi
We have a Core Duo Mac Mini. We needed to re-install the OS.
The first install DVD seemed to be fine, and the installer asked for the 2nd disc. When the 2nd disc is inserted an error occurs:
"There were errors installing the software"
We have tried several times with the same error. We can't find a way to exit the installer either.
We have tried simply starting the Mini, starting from the disc etc, with no luck.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I've also needed to reinstall my system software, 'cause I threw out Safari in a fit of frustration, only to find myself even more frustrated.
My installation disc freezes and I then have to stop the installation. What I do is turn it off with the on/off switch. Then restart it holding down the option button. This allows me to return to the internal hard drive as the start up disc. I think I need a new disc, but as it's september will wait for Leopard to come out in October. In the meanwhile, I'm using Firefox, which I was able to download through an old copy of Netscape I found buried deep in the folder hierarchy.

  • Apple TV won't load or play movies from my MBP library (through both airplay and homesharing), but will from my mac mini. Help!

I have been using my apple TV seamlessly with all my apple products (Mac Mini, iphone, MBP, ipad). Everything worked perfectly until recently (I noticed the issue about 3 weeks ago), when the apple TV won't load and play any movies from my iTunes library located on my MBP. The Library loads, and I can see everything, but as soon as I press play, the spinning load icon appears and doesn't stop. Same when I play movie from itunes directly and send it via airplay. Desktop mirroring no problem.
I have checked, and films are being played perfectly from my other devices, as does airplay and mirroring

Section 8 seems to be most applicable.
    8. Cannot access my library when my computer is asleep
For Apple TV to access your library while the host computer is asleep, "Wake for network access" must be turned on.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and select (enable) the "Wake for network access" option.
In addition, the network that the host computer and the Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) is connected to must support Wake on Demand feature. This works by partnering with a service running on your AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule called Bonjour Sleep Proxy.

  • I think my mac crashed? help please

I was in the process of having just downloaded some songs from itunes and the computer started pinwheeling/glitched like it does from time to time and so I restarted the computer manually. When it booted up, there is a question mark folder flashing. My brother usually does all the computer stuff at my house but he has moved away. I talked to him on the phone and he said it sounds like it has crashed. I inserted the OS disk1 and it recognized it and went to the installation, asking to pick your language. So it looks like I may be able to reinstall everything, but if I do this I will for certain lose all files/songs, etc. I am not going to reinstall unless this is my last resort. I really don't want to lose all of my stuff. anything else I can try first? so that I can recover my files? thanks

Normally you can recover your files. See my backup FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Once you have recovered sufficiently enough, make another duplicate of what is available.
Once you are backed up to your comfort level, you can attempt to repair the directory*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html
If you still can't make your Mac bootable, see if you can empty unnecessary files*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/diskfull.html
Or possibly zap the PRAM to solve problems:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Only then, if nothing else works, run the hardware test that came with your Mac:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081 - for 4 USB port Mac Minis.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287 - for 2 USB port Mac Minis.
If nothing there is detectable, come back and tell us what you've tried.

  • G4 to Mac Mini application help

my startup disk has run out of space and I don't think I can add more the 30Gb, i'm concidering the mac mini 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1GB memory 120GB hard drive and had some questions.
I wanted to know If Illustrator 10, photoshop 7, after effect 5.5 and Macromedia Studio 8 run on Mac Mini and if not do CS2 versions of Illustrator and photoshop run on the Mini.
    Thanks

It would be much cheaper to install a second larger Hd in your G4. Running the software you mention is not a question of hardware but rather depends on what OS the machine is using. If the Mini comes with Leopard you might need software upgrades.

  • I want "non HP printer cartridge" pop ups to go away on my Mac Mini computer. Please help

When my son is streaming Netflix, "non HP Printer cartridge" pop ups cover the screen like a virus has taken over.
No matter if I close them out or hit OK, they just sit there and I have to drag them over to the right lower corner and they will not be trashed.  I have an HP  Photosmart 6520 that is connected wirelessly. HP phone tech support told me that because it is a non HP cartridge (refill) , that happens to work better and longer than the original HP cartridges, they cannot help me get the pop ups to go away.  Funny thing is that the printer has always worked well with these cartridges, and these pop ups just started appearing after I upgraded my Mac to the latest update.  HP tech support told me to turn the wireless "Off" on the printer and said maybe that would help.  Solutions???     Joseph

    Hello heyjophi,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with a "non HP Printer cartridge" pop up on the screen.
This pop up will more than likely keep happening as long as you are using cartridges that are refilled.  The cartridge has a chip that lets the printer know how long it has been in the printer and it causes a popup on the computer screen. The only other way to get rid of this, other than using Genuine HP ink cartridges, is to uninstall the software from the Mac.
I do apologize for the inconvenience on this matter.
    Thanks for your time.
