Mac Mini unable to connect to wireless

Hello there,
I have a 1.66ghz Mac Mini with OSX 10.4.11
I am trying to connect to my wireless router but am having some difficulty. The Airport can see my router in the menu, and when I enter the password, it processes for about 30 seconds then says "There was an error joining the AirPort network".
I know the connection works, because I am using it right now on my macbook with Leopard 10.5.6.
I am using a Netgear wireless router model no. WGT624
Apparently the connection works when I connect via ethernet.
Any help would be much appreciated.

There is no need to upgrade to MacOS 10.5 to resolve this - MacOS 10.4.x was perfectly capable of connecting to wireless routers, and there are untold numbers of Macs running various versions of Tiger which are used daily on wifi.
Most issues with connection failures of this sort are caused by issues with security. As such, a good place to start is to temporarily disable your router's wifi security so that it is an open network, and then try and connect with the mini. If it fails then, you know it's an issue with the mini and signal quality because your MacBook connects OK (thus the router is working correctly). In that case you could obtain a copy of AP Grapher (http://www.chimoosoft.com/products/apgrapher/) on the mini (after connecting it via ethernet which you say works) and looking at the wifi signal the mini is seeing - it seems likely at that point you'll find the signal is low, or rather variable, or the trace for noise is high, meaning there is significant interference. This can create a situation where the system can 'see' the router via wifi, but fails to connect due to time out errors.
If it the mini connects with the security off, then the issue is the type of security or perhaps that the password is not being entered correctly.

    Hi Dan
Have you confirmed that the Netgear Powerline adaptor works fine with other computers on your network?
On your mini, if you go into System Preferences - Network - Built-in Ethernet, what are your TCP/IP settings? Are they the same as for the iMac?

  • Mac Mini doesn't connect to wireless until after logging in

I'm having an issue with my Mac Mini in that I am unable to connect to it via Screen Sharing in Leopard until after I have logged on to the machine physically (from the login splash screen).
I believe it has to do with it not connecting to my wireless network until I log on, it does not respond to ping or anything else until I log on, which seems to indicate that it doesn't connect to the wireless network until after/during log on.
Am I the only one having this problem or is there a way to make it connect to my wireless network even though nobody is logged in?

I'm not aware of a way to do what you are looking for, but I'm far from being an expert! It might be better to look for specialist MacOS help from user in the discussion area at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1222

  • 2005 Mac Mini, can this connect this wirelessly to my home network as an iTunes server

I have acquired a 2005 Mac Mini which appears to need direct cable connection to my router to access the internet.  Is there a way around this that  I can modify to access my home network wirelessly so I can use this as a stable location for my itunes library rather than my macbook pro.  The Mac mini is located in a room upstairs but my router is situated in the lounge alongside my Apple TV.  I want to try and get the mac mini to be the storage location for itunes that my apple tv will use.
Would the addition of an airport express or the like be a solution or am I barking up the wrong tree.  Due to the age, is it likely that the mac mini can be used as a mini desktop only rather than as a file server?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, as you have probably gathered, I am an apple novice

    Per this
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_Mini
an internal wifi card was optional.
You need a USN wifi stict that is compatible with your Mac. This one shuld work

    It says:
Supports Windows , ME, 2000, XP, vista , windows 7,MAC OS 10.X, Linux
Just mak sure that what yo get works with OSX 10.4.11 or 10.5.8. Your G4 Mini can only go to 10.5.8

  • Mac mini unable to connect to internet

I just bought a Mac mini Core Duo and tried to connect to internet through my existing router (D-Link DI-714P+). My router is working find with my 2 existing PC desktop (wired) and a PC notebook (wireless). My Mac mini seems to be able to detect and connect to my network but not internet. When I tried to access the internet, the message "You are not connected to the internet" appears. I also tried to disable the security of my network by disabling the WEP and WPA but it still won't work.
    Any help?

    Kim,
    Welcome to the discussions!
DId you log into your router and make sure it has extra DHCP addresses to hand out? Some have limits to only let 3 or 5 or 10 computers attach at one point.
Also - best to connect it with a wire first. Make sure it works fine with DHCP and then enable the wireless. There is no problem having both active all the time - you can troubleshoot and test both - and once the wireless works, disconnect the wired connection...
Lastly - open Safari the next time you can't get an address using wireless only. Click on the "network diagnostics" button - it is a really good tool to review your network settings and prompt you to restart the other devices at the correct times to see if the problem is elsewhere.
Post back what you try - there's a good chance we can help you out.

  • Mac mini can't connect to wireless network

I have a wireless network and 3 macs (ibook, macbookpro and mini). My ibook and macbookpro can connect to the network no problem. However the macmini (2010, extreme card) sees the network but connection fails. So I assume (?) the card is OK since the network is detected.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Was your Mac Mini ever able to access your wireless network or did it just stop working recently?
I have been using ethernet since it was purchased. Only recently decided to test the wireless.
Can it see other networks as well? If so, are any of them available to you to let your Mini connect to?
    There is only one available
Using the System Profiler on the Mini, please provide the following AirPort information:
Under Network > AirPort > Interfaces:
    Card Type
    Supported PHY Modes
Card Type: Airport Extreme (0x14E4, 0x93)
    Supported PHY Modes 802.11 a/b/g/n
Under Current Network Information for your wireless network:
    PHY Mode
    Channel
    Network Type
    Security
    Signal / Noise
    Transmit Rate
    Where do I find this?

  • Mac Mini (late 2012) connected to wireless but cannot connect to Internet

After the update to 10.8.3 the Mac Mini cannot connect to the internet, although it its connected to the router (wireless and/or by Ethernet cable) and the router has a stable and fast internet connection. My iPhone and my windows computer can connect to the internet perfectly at the same time via the same wifi-network and router.
This happens only after I updated the machine to 10.8.3, before that never happened!

    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. How far do you get?

  • Mac mini not keeping connection with Cisco wireless access point

I am trying to get my wife's Mac Mini to keep it's connection with the wireless network at her school. They are using a Cisco access point (not sure of the model) which works fine with my G4 Powerbook and the numerous Macbooks being used there, but for some reason her Mac Mini drops the connection after 4 or 5 minutes, at which point she needs to log right off for it to reconnect (as opposed to just turning the card off and on again). I have already gone through the deletion of the Networkinterfaces.plist file, and recreation of the Airport card profile process, but this only kept the interface active for about 36 hours, then it was back to the same old problem. At this point I am thinking "flakey card"...before I ship it off to Apple, can anyone offer any other possible solutions?

After spending time on the phone with a Apple support technician, he indicated that the Iphone has a compatibility problem with the wep key encryption that the Cisco appliance uses. I find this disturbing being that Cisco is the biggest in network gear. What's UP Apple? We need SP1 for the IPHONE!!!

  • Mac mini won't connect to my wireless router!

I just bought my mac mini server then connected it to wifi, then after 2 weeks I had to go abroad for a week so I just turned off the switch connecting to my mac, without switching off my mac mini server. then when I get back home my mac mini won't connect to my wifi. I tried everything from manually setting up IP and DHCP nothing works. What happened?
    thanks for help,
    Jakarta

I didn't reset the machine/router itself because 2 of my computer is still connected to wifi-and working perfectly, but the mac mini server cannot connect to wifi.
what I did was to set up the "networking utilities"-having said that, what I did was to connect all over again to wifi, this did not work. I did tried to change from DHCP to manually set up IP, neither of these didn't work.
    I'm now stucked!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless: HP printer unable to connect to wireless router.

Installing new printer,  getting error msg saying HP printer unable to connect to wireless router.   MAC address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router which can prevent HP printer from connecting to your wireless network during setup.
SOLUTION says:  If MAC address filtering is enabled and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the MAC addressof your printer to the list of permitted devices for your wireless router before continuing.
My router is WD My Net N900 Router. MAC filtering is diabled. My security mode is WPA/WPA2 Personal.
I have run out of ideas to try and fix the issues, would appreciate some help.
    Thanks,

    Hi Jamshidk
I am surprised you are getting that message and you checked the router settings and it is showing that the Mac Filtering is disabled.
I would suggest connecting the printer to the router with a ethernet cable to get a valid IP address and then setup the wireless.
    Print a configuration report.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01554589&lc=en&product=3760410&tmp...
Type the IP address from the configuration page  in the address bar into internet explorer browser. This will open the embedded web server for the printer. Click on the Networking tab, on the left hand side select wireless. After this is setup and applied, disconnect the ethernet cable.
Should be on the wireless network. Takes about 1 minute.
    Run the add printer wizard.
Go to start, devices and printers and select add a printer. (Win 7)
    Test the printer.

  • Mac Mini won't connect to internet "ISP Failed"

My 2012 Mac Mini isn't connecting wirelessly to the internet. All of my other devices connect perfectly. It was working when we first set it up in our new house a few days ago. And now randomly it will not. It continues to say that I am connected to the network but that the ISP, Internet, and Server have failed. In the Network Diagnostics the IPS, Internet, and Server are also jumping from red to yell to green to yellow. I am on OS 10.9.4, 2.5 GHz i5, 16GB ram. Any ideas how to get it to work?

Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
Test. After testing, restart as usual and post the results.

  • MAC mini will not connect to Dell PowerConnect 5524

Have several Mac Mini's that will not connect to Dell PowerConnect 5524 switches. Proofed Cabling, Ports, and Minis. Something between the two is not happy. Searched Dell and Apple sites and found no information.

Most routers document a default router address such as http://192.254.0.1, or something similar you can manually enter in your web browser to log into their setup.   Apple's Safari can't login all routers.  In some cases Fifefox, Chrome, Opera, or Omniweb is needed, and in some cases you have to use Windows virtualization to use Internet Explorer.   Once you get to the page, the username is typically by default system, and the password is admin, or sometimes it is vice versa.  Verify with Dell support what they use.  Then you can configure it at will.
As long as you have a Core2Duo or Core i Mac Mini, you can connect via 802.11n wireless.   Some earlier Core2Duo may need Apple's 802.11n patch to be installed to be able to use 802.11n.  Otherwise, all Mac Minis support at least 802.11g.   The old PowerPC Mac Minis had an optional Airport Extreme card that could be installed for 802.11g support.  Those only had 2 USB ports on rear.

  • Mac mini does not connect to the internet via wifi

I currently have a Mac mini that cannot connect to the internet. I also have an iPad that is connected to the same router/modem wirelessly. I have tried the network diagnostic in the network utility app. It is showing I'm connected with green dots.. But still no luck.
Yes I tried calling the ISP, there was some issues with the service but they fixed that and it was working just fine a few hours ago but then later in the evening it stopped connecting. I know my router modem is working because I'm typing this with my iPad ..
Im going to call apple tomorrow and try to get another modem router as we'll. Just thought I would try here also..
if i if I have to restore my Mac mini to factory, will there be a way to keep my iTunes music .. .?
    thanks

If yo go to Network Preferences>Wifi  what IP address is specified? It should be like 192.168.1.X.
Try creating a new location and jointing the wifi network again
Using network locations (Mac OS X v10.6 and later)

Can you connect iPad to Mac mini, Can you connect iPad to Mac mini?

Every Mac Mini has a USB port. Every Mac Mini can run iTunes. The only catch is that you need to be running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) or later. So in general, yes, an iPad can connect to a Mac Mini.
