Mac Mini update any time soon?

First of all you should know I'm a kid on a budget and I'm only asking because a Mini is all I can afford.
Since the Intel HD 4000, the ATI 6630M is obsolete even to Intel stuff, and I don't want something that outdated. Does anyone know/have an idea of when the Mini will get a refresh/upgrade so I can buy then instead of getting something slow comparativley and possibly very soon outdated?

Hello,
We're not actually allowed to speculate on such things here!
So, reading the Tea Leaves, (Orange & Black Pekoe+ Oolong)...
It looks like late 2012 or 2013, but forget it if it includes an Integrated Intel HD 99000!

  • Take 2 update any time soon????

Is a 2.1 update coming soon?
I miss the strong performance of my AppleTV since the 2.0 upgrade.
I've heard Apple is working on another iTunes update to fix it's bugs, hopefully it will fix my
ATV performance as well. Keeping my fingers crossed.

God I hope so! Ever since I upgraded to Take 2 it takes hours upon hours to sync videos/music/movies from my Mac Pro to my ATV. It used to only take minutes to transfer an entire movie and now it takes an hour or more. Don't get me wrong, I love my ATV and Take 2 but something awful happened to the way it interacts with my computer and/or network when transferring files.
I also wish they would allow you to manually manage your files like with the iPod or iPhone. I am completely aware of the "custom sync" option but that is not even close to being able to manually manage it. For example, my brother and I share a house and both work different shifts and watch the same shows so selecting to "Sync all unwatched episodes of selected TV shows" doesn't work well because as soon as one of us watches the show it deletes it from the ATV and I have to go back into iTunes and mark that episode as "Mark as New" so the other can watch it after it resyncs. We also like to download entire seasons of shows so "Sync all shows" is not a good idea since I purchased my ATV when all there was available was the 40 GB model and I have 200 GB of TV shows in my iTunes. We have been streaming from my computer as the best solution so far except that I don't want to always have to run upstairs to turn on my computer just to use the ATV, not to mention that it ***** to do that when I want to surf the net while he is streaming from my computer because it really bogs down the network!
Well, I guess I could try making an "Apple TV" playlist and put everything into that and select "Sync all episodes of selected playlists". I just thought of that so in theory that should do pretty much the same thing as manually managing my music... I hope! Too bad that it will take about a week for my ATV to resync everything from that playlist to the ATV now...

  • Mac Mini update AppleID is incorrect, can i change it to mine, not my wife's?

I have a Mac Mini and every time I update apps and install etc. it asks for my wife's AppleID to install the updates.  I set myself up as the first and master account, how can I rectify, this is seriously frustrating.

Try Settings>Store>Apple ID:>Sign Out> then sign back in with your correct ID

  • How do I use a Mac Mini + Airport Express + Time Machine disk to backup another iMac

How do I use a Mac Mini + Airport Express + Time Machine disk to backup another iMac?
The question pretty much says it all.
I have a Mac Mini with an attached 3TB Hard Drive used for Time Machine Backups.
I have an Airport Extreme base station which services that machine plus several others.
I would like to backup my new iMac and a MacBook Pro to the Mac Mini.
What do I need to do on the mini to export that hard drive so that it can be used as a Time Machine target from the other systems?
    All systems are running 10.6.8.

Well you would have to do backups over a network which is much slower and has highest chance of becoming corrupt. I think your best option would be to get an apple time capsule to act as a network and back if thats how you wanna do that

  • Is there an official Rugby World Cup App for iPhone coming any time soon?

Is there an official Rugby World Cup App for iPhone coming any time soon?

Its good to know that I am not the only one left wondering about this!
I expected the RWC 2011 website to post some information regarding this, though it appears they have something set up with Blackberry already.
I'm holding out, hoping that an official app will come along, but some of the non-official ones seem quite decent.
There seems to be a real lack of iDevice and Andriod official services/support for this RWC, which is a real shame because this would be the first RWC where you could combine the sport with great technology and communications.
To me it appears the organizers missed a great oppertuinity or suck at planning/promoting.
An iPhone/iPad official app would be fantastic!

  • Need to update from MAC OS X server 10.4.11 to MAC mini server, any tips?

Hello I am having issues to migrate from a Mac OS x server version 10.4.11, processor 2GHZ PowerpcG5, to a brand new mac mini server running mavericks.
I been reading posts in the communities saying that I will need to get a snow leopard first(?) can I get MAC OS X snow leopard, or it needs to be MAC OS leopard server?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I do not know for certain, but what little experience I have with Server, my guess is that you'll have to get 10.6 Sever.
It's not available online, but might still be had by calling Apple & asking for... Part Number: MC588Z/A
Or, you might repost in one of these areas...

  • Cannot use my Mac Mini server as Time Machine server

    Hello,
May some one can help me...
I try to connect clients to a time Machine server, well it's seems to be a bit difficult, I created user's accounts, computers accounts, group of computers... It works for the update services, but after configuring Time Machine on the server, shared in server admin, in Workgroup manager, file sharing, preference pane, user's services... I can see the volume in time machine preferences, but there is always the same issue, first message is "the disk is not reachable" second "there is a probleme with the network name and password" I tried with different posix, ACLS, with user's password, server admin password, directory admin password... Well I'm a bit tired...
I tried on the server and on a Promise 4To, I can see the shared items folder and the Backups foledr and that the only thing I can do...
Well if some one can help me it will be great for me and for every body arround me...
    Thanks,
    Nicolas

    Hello Peter,
    Thanks for your answer.
There must be something wrong in the different steps I follow.
Firts I set Time machine on the server for each user, shoosing the Volume "SmartStor" (a network volume attached on the Mac Mini server) it creates a "Shared items" folder with a "Backups" folder in.
In Server Admin tools I can see in the AFP services the share point /Backups
In Workgroup Manager I set the Time Machine's preferences for the different computers and computers' group with the path afp://myserver.local/Backups/
At least on my client's computer I can shoose the volume "Backups" "on my server".
And it doesn't work... even with all the logins and password, User's, Dir Admin and Server Admin.
With User's and Dir Admin it runs quickly and tells "the volume is not reachable on account of wrong user's name or password"
With Server Admin login and password it runs indefinitly, nothing occurs ...
Is there something to do in terminal ?
Well I tried to find explanations on the web but I found nothing for the moment... The informations are to set a network volume in Terminal in place of the default one...
'Hope to find soon, I can't stand that something runs for every one but not with me...

  • Mac Mini Update - Grey Screen will not reboot

I just ran an update on my 2010 Mac Mini, I think it was the 10.8.6 update as I just downloaded to my MBA as well.  I now have a grey screen that asks me to reboot every time I do it comes back to the same screen.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance

Well I tried the steps for a grey screen in the help section and it turns out it is a third party keyboard.  Any ideas now how to solve this or do I just junk it?

  • Mac Mini refuses any boot keyboard commands

    Mac Mini model MB139LL/A
I cannot get my Mac Mini to do anything other than boot from the harddrive!
ANY key combination I hold, boot from cd, bring up boot menu, perform a system test, etc etc is ignored, it just keeps booting until it brings up the login screen for OSX.
Not even holding down the left mouse button works!
I tried both restarting, and shutting down and then powering back up.
I tried holding the key before I turn it on and right after it turns on.
    Nothing.
This is getting frustrating, any idea why it is ignoring me?

    Boece wrote:
To improve your chances of success ...
be sure the keyboard is directly connected to a usb port on the back of the Mini
Its plugged in directly into the back of the Mac Mini.
    Boece wrote:
hold down the C key as soon as you hear the startup chime or beep - and keep holding it down until you see the "gear" spinning on the screen
Didn't work. As soon as the startup chime played I held down C the entire time until the OSX login screen appeared, which clearly means it has gone too far.
    Boece wrote:
If your Mini has an Apple Remote, another workaround is to hold down the Menu button on the remote at startup. This works the same as holding down the Option/Alt key.
Huh, I had no idea you could use the remote too, that worked perfectly, though it assumed my CD was Windows.
Odd though..... I could only move my mouse up and down in this menu, not left or right.
Ubuntu wasn't recognizing my keyboard or mouse in the "choose your language" screen either, but after the timer ran out and it picked the default language of English it booted up fine with my KB and Mouse working. I guess that is a discussion for the Ubuntu forums though.
    Thanks
Is there a guide anywhere on everything you can do on boot-time with the remote? Or is the menu button it?

  • How do I find firmware upgrades for a 1.66 Mac mini, or any mac

We have a Mac Mini 1.66 processor. I have updated all of the software, but notice that there are no firmware updates. How do you find applicable firmware updates? I looked at my son's Macbook Pro and see that there is a Mac Mini firmware update listed and when you click on it, it says that it is not applicable to that machine. He used the migration utility to move from the Mac Mini to the Macbook Pro. My guess is that the Mac Mini is marked somewhere as having the firmware upgrade even though we did a complete install from scratch of the OS after he moved to his Macbook Pro. The re-install took the Macbook back to Tiger and then up to Leopard. I would like to get everything up to date before upgrading to Snow Leopard. As an aside, I would assume I can delete the file if it is allowed on the MacBook Pro that references the firmware for the Mac Mini since it says it is not applicable.

If no firmware updates appears via Software Update, then it's probable that there are none applicable to your model of Mac. The most recent firmware update, probably the one your son is seeing, applies only to the 2009 Mac mini. You can, if you wish, look up a list of all updates released for any model of Mac mini here:

  • Undo Mac Mini Update?

I have a couple of friends who own a 2006 Mac Mini running Tiger. They tried to do a software update, but it failed. Then when they would try to boot up, they would just see the gray Apple logo screen with a never-ending rotating line status icon.
I was able to boot in verbose mode. Here are the last few messages I saw before the hang on bootup:
    Configuring kernel extensions
    /etc/rc: line 226: 26 Bus error kextd
mv: /System/InstallAtStartup/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/NetworkConfig.framewo rk/Versions/A/Resources/version.plist: No such file or directory
    /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1: line 5: 31 Segmentation fault /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Admin.framework/Versions/A/Resources/activate Settings
How can I correct this? Is it possible to "undo" the updates? I have not been able to boot into the desktop, so any resolution will require the Terminal program after booting off the installation DVD, etc.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

    specklesandme:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It is difficult to tell what is happened to the OS. I would begin with Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
To be able to remove the update you will need to completely erase the drive and reinstall. Hopefully you have a backup. If the backup is a bootable clone you can simply reclone to the HDD.

  • Problem migrating to new Mac mini Server from Time Machine Backup

I sell my old Mac mini Server and after I purchase the new one (unibody). I had the Time Machine Backup but I'm not able to restore it to the new mac mini. I started it with the Server Install DVD into it and I went to Utility menu to choose "*Restore from Time Machine backup*" but it said that *it was not possible to restore the backup to this machine because its a different hardware, and suggested to use Migration*. So I restarted it and when it asked me to choose between "setting up a new server" or "transfer information from an existing server" I chose this last. In the next menu didn't appear any Time Machine backups so I mounted the time machine backup and copied the Latest hd backup to an external firewire hd and I connected it to the new one. In the migration menu list appeared my backup but there was a *yellow triangle icon* over it and the message "*Migration is not supported from servers which are configured to use dynamic network addresses. Configure the source system to have a manual network address and try again*". But how can I config a static address into my backup if I can't restore it into a machine? I don't have anymore the old mac mini to restore the backup and make any change in the configuration!
Any one can please help or give me suggestions?
    Many thanks

    I solved it!
I changed the network settings by editing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
So I successfully restored my SL server installation, but now I have an issue with Ethernet and SD reader. See this post if you are interested:

    Thanks for the reply, den.thed.
I tried the first suggestion, resetting the SMC, but after this the problem continues.
I think the issue is related to the second, kernel panicking.
As for suggestions 3 and 4, i have my energy settings as you show in your post, with monitor sleep after 15 minutes, computer sleep never and none of the options checked.  While the computer does not sleep, this is only an issue when i step away from the computer for a while and come back, not when i am actively using it.
The latest error message is as follows, and seems to indicate a kernel panic (or several).

  • Mac mini updated to  os  x lion, afp won''t see  qnap share

I've downloaded and update my mac mini and after the succesfull update I can't see any network shares, no smb no afp and no other computers on the network. I've also updated my Qnap ts439 II turbo + to fw 3.4.4 but to avail. Has anyone seen this too? who has a solution
    -jan

Hi, as with other users having the TS-209 there is no firmware availabe that can be handled by Lion. (Still 3.30 from oct 2010)
There is a conflict in the netatalk versions. So AFP-share are not accessible by authenticated users.
                                      Re: cannot Login
My other post shows how to access your old Timemachine backups in case you need them after upgrading.
