Mac mini updated to  os  x lion, afp won''t see  qnap share

I've downloaded and update my mac mini and after the succesfull update I can't see any network shares, no smb no afp and no other computers on the network. I've also updated my Qnap ts439 II turbo + to fw 3.4.4 but to avail. Has anyone seen this too? who has a solution
-jan

Hi, as with other users having the TS-209 there is no firmware availabe that can be handled by Lion. (Still 3.30 from oct 2010)
There is a conflict in the netatalk versions. So AFP-share are not accessible by authenticated users.

My other post shows how to access your old Timemachine backups in case you need them after upgrading.

Newly installed Mac Mini legally upgraded to Mountain Lion is unstable 2.4Gh Dual, 8Gb RAM. Had to repeat initial install three times, then would not shut down. Reinstalled, seemed better, kernel panics happening and restarting, removed 3rd party devices. Zapped PRAM and fixed file permissions.
    Any ideas welcome.

Mtn Lion not due out until the Summer, so no, you will not get a free upgrade.

I run a Mac Mini 10.6.1 and a G5 10.4.11 - they share a screen. Yesterday the contrast on the Mac Mini went mad. Very very heavy contrast and now its impossible to retouch with Photoshop as I cannot judge the colours accuratly. The G5 is fine. I keep the screen image I get on the G5 good and accurate with Huey. I believe I cannot use this with the "Intel Inside" Mac Mini. Does anyone know how I can restore the great screen image I got up to yesterday on my Mac Mini? Thanks. John Suffolk England.

Likely caused by one of the following: a bad cable, maybe a bad connection or (my guess) bad graphics hardware.
To rule out the software, see if booting from an installer DVD shows better color.
Swap the cables and check the connections.
Then call your hardware support provider.

  • Mac mini and os x mountain lion help

hi i want to buy mac mini 2011 with lion server this week so when os x mountain lion is relesed will i be able to upgrade my os x lion to os x mountain lion if yes does it costs money if costs how much it costs

Macs that will support OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
As usual, the newer the Mac the better:
MacBook Pro – 13″ from mid 2009 or later, 15″ from late 2007 and newer, 17″ from late 2007 and newer
MacBook Air – late 2008 and newer
iMac – models from mid 2007 and newer
    MacBook – 13″ aluminum from 2008, 13″ from 2009 and newer
Mac Mini – early 2009 and newer
Mac Pro – early 2008 models and newer
XServe – early 2009 models and newer
Macs that are NOT expected to support OS X Mountain Lion
Older Macs and those with weaker GPU’s will likely be left behind:
Anything with an Intel GMA 950 or x3100 integrated graphics card
Anything with an ATI Radeon X1600
MacBook models released prior to 2008
Mac Mini released prior to 2007
iMac models released prior to 2007
    Original MacBook Air
This list of compatible and incompatible Macs and system requirements are based off of the first OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview and may be subject to change, we will update when we learn more about the specifics. OS X Mountain Lion will be released this summer but presumably long before that we will know precise system requirements and what Macs are and are not supported by the new version of OS X. Stay tuned.

  • Mac mini shut down problems under Lion

Since I installed Lion on my Mac mini (mid 2010, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) I cannot shut down the Mac mini any more. I always have to shut it down by pushing the power button. Can anybody please help me? Thank you.

Hello, Yes, I see the gray spinwheel which goes on for ever.
In the meantime I have installed the lion update and I have uninstalled all applications which I do not need any longer. What I also realized is that if I do not tick "open same windows when restarting again" (I don't know the exact English version as I am using the German one) the shot down does not work properly - as mentioned above. At the end I believe I found the solution now:
    - Lion update
    - all apps which I don't need anymore: deleted
    - all USB, Firewire etc. drives "eject"
    - Shut down
    It works.
Hope you also find the solution for your problems.
    Best reagards

  • HT1338 New just out of box 2012 Mac Mini - Update to 10.8.2 won't load because "Volume does not meet the requirements of this update."

Just opened box and started using Mac Mini (OS X 10.8.1), Late 2012, Core i5.  When trying to update iLife product, was given message that update to 10.8.2 was required.  Tried to update, but was given message that Volume does not meet the requirements.

Your computer requires a special Mountain Lion version that it's not available right now, so you have to wait until Apple launches it again

  • 2011 Mac Mini Server Running OS X Lion

I've had two new mac mini servers crash out fatally on me within the last week. Discs illustrating SMART verification but permissions being scrambled and unrecoverable using disk utilities on the recovery partition. Servers were able to sustain limited stability but crashed repeatedly on screen sharing (with Lion based macbookpro and macpro). Has anyone else encountered similar issues or have I just had two from a 'dud batch'.

    Any updates on this?
I had a mini that turned out to have a bad logic board that was a BTO unit assembled the week of 20 July 2011.  I wonder if the China plant had a QC or process control problem in that time frame.

  • Mac Mini Server to OS X Lion

    All,
I am trying to get my head around the steps that I would need to do in order to upgrade my Mac Mini server that is currently running OS X 10.6 to OS X 10.7 Lion.  I have already purchased the $29.99 Lion upgrade for our other machines in the house.
Do I have to install Lion on the Mac Mini server and then spend $49.99 to upgrade the server tools?  Will the existing server tools (that came with the old OS X 10.6 server) still work with Lion?  Just trying to decide if spending another $50.00 to upgrade the server is worth it.  I also worry about breaking things during the Lion install.  I expected that there would be a all-in-one pack to install that would take you from 10.6 server to 10.7 server.
Thanks in advance for any info people can offer.
    Matt

Upgrading to Lion Server is a two step process in that the server part is a separate purchase and install.  My understanding is that during the upgrade of SL Server, you run the Lion installer, then you'll be prompted for to purchase and download the Server add-on, if the installer does not already find it in your Applications folder.  I'm not sure, but I don't believe you can use the old Server Tools on Lion.  And I don't think you can "only" upgrade a SL Server to Lion without the Server add-on.
...I also worry about breaking things during the Lion install....
As always, backup, backup, backup.  Clone your existing SL installation to a separate hard drive.  That way if something does go wrong, it's relatively painless to restore the cloned image.  Without a clone, "fixing" a bad upgrade can be quite painful, if not impossible.  (If you're going to rely on a Time Machine backup instead, then don't enable Time Machine in Lion until you're sure everything's working.  Or disconnect the Time Machine Drive.  That way you can ensure that you have a Snow Leopard only Time Machine backup, which you can restore with your original disks that came with the Mac.)

  • Undo Mac Mini Update?

I have a couple of friends who own a 2006 Mac Mini running Tiger. They tried to do a software update, but it failed. Then when they would try to boot up, they would just see the gray Apple logo screen with a never-ending rotating line status icon.
I was able to boot in verbose mode. Here are the last few messages I saw before the hang on bootup:
    Configuring kernel extensions
    /etc/rc: line 226: 26 Bus error kextd
mv: /System/InstallAtStartup/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/NetworkConfig.framewo rk/Versions/A/Resources/version.plist: No such file or directory
    /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1: line 5: 31 Segmentation fault /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Admin.framework/Versions/A/Resources/activate Settings
How can I correct this? Is it possible to "undo" the updates? I have not been able to boot into the desktop, so any resolution will require the Terminal program after booting off the installation DVD, etc.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

    specklesandme:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It is difficult to tell what is happened to the OS. I would begin with Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
To be able to remove the update you will need to completely erase the drive and reinstall. Hopefully you have a backup. If the backup is a bootable clone you can simply reclone to the HDD.

  • Mac Mini update AppleID is incorrect, can i change it to mine, not my wife's?

I have a Mac Mini and every time I update apps and install etc. it asks for my wife's AppleID to install the updates.  I set myself up as the first and master account, how can I rectify, this is seriously frustrating.

Try Settings>Store>Apple ID:>Sign Out> then sign back in with your correct ID

  • Mac Mini Update - Grey Screen will not reboot

I just ran an update on my 2010 Mac Mini, I think it was the 10.8.6 update as I just downloaded to my MBA as well.  I now have a grey screen that asks me to reboot every time I do it comes back to the same screen.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance

Well I tried the steps for a grey screen in the help section and it turns out it is a third party keyboard.  Any ideas now how to solve this or do I just junk it?

  • Mac Mini Server running os X lion general help

    hi
just wondered if anyone else was struggling to work out how to set up an os x mac mini server with lion server on it - with no obvious help system, manual etc. Can someone point me at any resources that might help as to be honest I am struggling with this. Many features on how you administer this have changed from the previous version (snow leopard) - and all the books are no use as they all refer to this.

well to be honest I wanted a server to run more aspects of what I do privately (rather tahn at work) rather than use hosted accounts from disparate hosted providers on line. In partcular wanted a mail server to handle multiple mail domains, wiki server, web sever as per mail server and I was interested in what they would provide for iphone ipad etc as I have a few that I wanted to link to a server rather than individual macs and pcs
I also thought that Apple might bring their abilities to creating a great UI for essentially linux operating systems to  a server os.
from initial views though it might have been easier (cheaper) to go to ubuntu and just their server version of linux. Anyway I will persist - I will read through the stuff you guys have linked me to - colinsolutions appears to have aimed me at some useful stuff. Looks like a bigger "project" than i imagined - but I havent looked at UNIX since 1986 so if I have to get into the command line it wont kill me I am sure.
thanks for the input - if anyone else can suggets good resources that would be appreciated.
ps simon - i found that the name for the server with the .local extension is visibile from the mac via finder and allows me to connect to the shared folder. so my server is sdhome - the shared resource is sdhome.local ... not sure if this helps but...
