Mac Mini upgrade to 8gb RAM?

Can Mac Mini (2009 model) 2.0GHz/1GB 1066MHz DDR3 upgrade ram to 8gb (2x4GB)?

Not sure how you can say something is not possible purely based on the fact that OWC doesn't sell a kit. You have to admit that is pretty ridiculous. If you had some technical knowledge backing your statements they would hold more merit. I think the guy doesn't believe you because you don't have any real information and you are not offering any expertise.
Does anyone with real knowledge of such things know if the Mini can be expanded beyond 4GB?
Someone above commented that OWC has tried unsuccessfully to upgrade the Mini. Is there a link to this info?

  • HT5475 Can the Mac mini upgrade to 8GB and 8GB of 1866MHz RAM ?

I have the Mac mini (late 2012) 2.3GHz Core i7 model.

The 2102 Mini can go to 16 GB, two 8 GB sticks. Macs are picky about memory and a stick rated at a higher speed may not work. Make sure that they say they will work with a Mac

  • Mac Mini upgrade with nanya ram

    Hi all
I've come accross an interesting offer on a 2x1 Gb ram made by Nanya.

I wanto to use them on a mac mini dual core.
Do someone has experiences withe these rams?
I havv read that someone has used nanya with macmini but he hasn't mentioned the exact model.
    Thanxx.

The attraction of cheap RAM is understandable, particularly memory that is generally known good, but there are reasons that places such as crucial.com remain in business despite their relatively high pricing structures, and where Mac systems are concerned the rate of failure with RAM is certainly higher than with PCs - which makes the extra cost of buying from sources that offer comprehensive warranties rather more worthwhile than might at first seem.
Newegg have often been quoted as among the lower cost vendors offering good levels of service - it may be worth looking at their returns and replacement terms.
Personally, I would not opt for a RAM supplier who does not give an assurance that memory they provide will be at the very least exchanged at a future date if found defective in the specific system concerned.

  • Upgrade mac mini 2010 w 6GB RAM

presently mid 2010 mac mini upgraded to maverick. seems running low on memory.
planning to upgrade from the default 4GB (2x2GB) that comes with mini server version
do i have to upgrade both slots equally say 2x4GB (8GB), or can i upgrade 1x2GB and 1x4GB (6GB)
    thnks

You can use different RAM sizes if you want, but I recommend you to use two modules of the same amount of RAM to take advantage of Dual Channel. You can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial.
Note that OS X Mavericks manages RAM in a different way than older OS X versions, so in some cases it is "normal" that RAM usage is high

Your 14 days are up, however you could take your case to Apple Inc. regarding same,
    however those are the stipulations.
RAM cannot be upgraded however, period, its permanent on the logic board after mfg.
As for the SSD (solid state drive), upgrading same is a bad premise 9 times out of 10.
No notebooks is a mass storage device, and you need an external HD for data redundancy and backups regardless.
data that is static on your SSD and not used very often has no logical reason to be ON the notebooks, and best saved on a superslim external HD ($60)
SSD are very expensive, even a small one,  HD are cheap as dirt and users are recommended to have one regardless for many good reasons.

Is is possible to install Win 2007 in MacPro (retina display) with USB (2.0 or 3.0) as new Mac retina display lacks DVD.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, Windows 7
They have been calling their notebook a MacPro for a year. Or is it this?

  • Mac Book Pro with 8gb RAM

Can I have my ran upgraded at a local Apple Store? Or the only way to buy a Mac Book Pro with 8gb RAM is online?

In Milan, Italy, they did for me at the Apple Store.
They took out the original 4GB and installed 8GB. the 4GB were discounted at full price because I did it before going out of the store. If I remember correctly -200€ for the 4GB and +400€ for the 8GB. This means 200 €
At the end is practical but may be more expensive if you discarge the 4GB and install non Apple 8GB, but this may invalid tha garanty... I am not sure about it but I prefer to stay on the safe side.
The difference could be not much. May be you find 8GB for only 140 - 160  €  but it will be difficoult to get more than 40-50 for the 4GB even if they are really new.

i have the macbook pro 13" retina display. Can I upgrade my 8gb ram to 16gb? my processor is 2.5Ghz intel core i5

To save space on the computer, Apple has decided to solder the memory onto the logic board on the MacBook Pro with Retina display and the MacBook Air, and that's why you can't add more memory after buying the Mac. This only applies to these computers, not for the other ones

  • Upgrading to 8gb ram on macbook pro

    Hi,
I have a 13inch macbook pro from mid 2010. It currently runs on 4gb ram but recently, i've been running a lot of programs and was thinking about upgrading to 8gb ram. Will upgrading the ram to 8gb make the macbook pro heat up a lot? Other than heating up, is there any problems upgrading the ram to 8gb?
    Thanks,

No noticable heat increase issues.  More Ram is always better.

Which version of Logic? I have 9, but I've yet to install it. I'm just creating the images of the disks atm to install them on my Haswell. Will let you know how that performs.
Logic 10 would most certainly work fine though.

  • Can a New Mac mini server take 8GB of RAM?

We are considering buying a Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server (to use the complete term) for our small business. Every review I read points out two of the biggest shortcomings as:
    1. A limit of 4 GB of memory
    2. Limited to the two slow 500 GB drives
However, there seems to be a lot of chatter about a firmware update for both the mini and the mini server that enables 8 GB of RAM. I want an Apple-supported configuration. Does Apple actually support 8GB RAM on the mini server?
I assume that the drives are also not upgradable due to power/heat, and that it would be better to just get an external Firewire drive array.
    Thanks in advance!

    Is this Apple-approved/supported?
AFAIK, It is not. 4GB max from Apple. But Macsales' reputation in the Mac community is among the best so I am inclined to believe them and I personally would be comfortable with 8GB from Macsales even if it's not supported by Apple. However, you will have to weigh that against the potential issues you may have if you ever need to get the Mini repaired under warranty.
