Can I connect this computer to
a television ?

hey Niel,
So the Display Port on my iMac G5 is for output only?
Have you used ScreenRecycler at all? It looks interesting, but wondering if it works as well as they say. Though with the price, I guess it's worth a try.
Thanks!

Just purchased a new mac mini 3GHz Intel Core i7, with 16GB ram version 10.10.1. With it i purchased a new wireless keyboard. All of a sudden I was not able to use the #1 key. I thought I had a defected newly purchased keyboard. I pulled out my older wireless keyboard, and the same thing happened. It must not be the keyboard if it happened to two different keyboards. I have a habit of restarting my computer, when things don't work, I find it helps, and sure enough, everything works. Today, it happened again. Does anyone know what is causing this to happen?

You have enough memory for Snow Leopard:

  • How do I update OSX 10.6.8 to 10.7 on a Mac Mini with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM?

I have an older Mac Mini but it has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor that I thought would work to update from 10.6.8 to 10.7 - but Lion is no longer available to download on the App Store, Is there any way to do it?

If you have a Early or Late 2009 MacMini3,1 or newer you can upgrade to Mavericks for free by using the App Store.
You should also consider maximizing your RAM.

  • Old apps won't work on os10.4 with mac mini duo intel

I was under the impression my new mac came with ms office NOT a trial version - that's Lame.
I have several apps on 9.2 imac. I the Apple store transferred them to New mac mini. Most important msoffice 98. it was a useless transfer. Can't find upgrades. Can't install system 9 on an intel Mac. Do I buy new software all over again. Find another spot in my house to plug in my dinosaur mac or bag the thing and get a Dell.

Well, I could understand your frustration a bit until I came to....
I can't even send attachents on my verizon e-mail with
    this system.
Which strikes me as rather odd, given that I've been using a Mac (several in fact) to work with my Verizon email for about 3 years and have had no issues at all with sending attachments, using Mail and POPping my email, or the Verizon webmail alternative access.
And then it made me wonder.... the fact you seem to think Apple should have given you a copy of MS Office for free suggests you didn't think to actually READ the product description - which means your rant against the system you purchased and the company who built it is really not worth much. And given that a FREE, compatible, Office work-alike software suite is available to you for the price of a few minutes download time, so you have no need for your old copy of Office or OS9.2 and it's apparent that you have all the solution you need if you want it. Free. Is that not cheap enough?

  • Office on mac mini with intel chip

Will Office X run on a mac mini with an intel chip? I have a friend that just bought one and he is wondering if he should buy office now or wait for a new version to come out.

Installs and runs fine on my Duo. If it's bought now, you'd also be entitled to buy the next version at the upgrade price (well, that's how it's worked with the PC versions of Office) so it'll save a bit of money in the process

  • Need further info. on upgrade of G4 Mac Mini pre-Intel to Leopard

Just need to clarify from previous discussion thread. Am I up the river on my Pre-Intel Mac Mini with a 1.5 GHz processor and a 167 Bus Speed. What does Leopard want the processor or the bus speed to run. I've upgraded my memory to 1 GB. But I still can't get the darn thing to load. If it still won't work, does anyone know of a company willing to buy an old Mac Mini? I really don't care about running Windows since I know or thought Leopard would be the last software upgrade. Thanks.

Performing an Erase and Install is truly not a difficult thing, and not only might it resolve this issue if there is a problem with the prior MacOS install on the drive or with the catalog or drive's data structure, but in the situation, it can't really make the situation any worse since you haven't got a working system to begin with!
As long as you either don't have any data or software on the drive now, or have what you need backed up, an Erase and Install is worth trying - and is actually recommended in many situations when users are moving to Leopard from Tiger, since the early Leopard installers were known to cause instabilities and unpredictable results after an upgrade installation.
Do you know anyone who has familiarity with Macs who might help you? If not, look at http://www.apple.com/usergroups/find/ (or in your local phone book and newspapers) and see if there's a Mac user group near you - they are generally welcoming to those who have problems and need a bit of local assistance. Alternatively, you can contact an Apple Approved Service Provider even though your mini is out of warranty and get them to look at your system (the problem you describe is not likely to be an expensive fix) or if you have an Apple retail store near you, call and make an appointment at the Genius Bar - they'll look at the mini for free despite it being out of warranty.

  • 2011 Mac Mini w/Intel HD3000 video signal loss on HDMI and Thunderbolt?

I've had this issue since I first purchased my Mac Mini back in August.  I also discussed this issue with a friend who just purchased a Mac Mini too, and he has the exact same problem.  When connected to my monitor via HDMI, the screen will flicker to green, go out, then come back on.  Sometimes I have to cycle my monitor input button before the screen returns.   Also, if I connect to my monitor via DVI to Thunderbolt adapter, the screen flickers to "snow", then cuts out intermittently. It's the same problem either way.  I'm connected to a new Asus VE276Q 27" monitor. I connect my Xbox and PC to the same display with no issues whatsoever. This is my first Mac product and I'm VERY frustrated with this problem. A firmware update was released a few months back regarding flickering when connected to an Apple Cinema display, but this had no effect on My machine. I've also verified the display refresh rate setting as well.  Anyone else out there having this problem?

I recently got the 2.3 GHz Mac Mini. I tried hooking it up to a Viewsonic VX2035 with the enclosed HDMI DVI converter. I get the same results as you. Nothing on the monitor. It says no analog signal detected. Then the monitor goes into sleep mode. I hooked it up to a  32" Westhinghouse HDTV using a HDMI cable and it works fine.

  • MAC MINI 2GHz INTEL CORE DUO 10.5.8 SOFTWARE UPGRADE

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade my mac mini operating system to mountain lion. Can somebody tell me what I have to do.
    Many thanks

A Core Solo or Core Duo Mac can't run Mountain Lion. If you happen to have a compatible Mac(there are no Core Duo 2GHz Mac minis), phone the online Apple Store, order a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, run Software Update, and get it from the Mac App Store.

You must use the 10.4.10 (8R3014) System Disc that came with that Mini, or a later OS X (Leopard, Snow Leopard) Retail Upgrade Disc to do a clean install.

  • Should I upgrade Intel Core Duo 1 Mac Mini (2006) to Snow Leopard?

Okay I have a 80 GB Apple Mac Mini with Intel Core Duo 1 proccessor that shipped with Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.7) currently running 10.4.11 that I want to upgrade to either Leopard or Snow Leopard in a few months just in time for Christmas which I acquired in September 2006. It was the first Mac Mini model to include Apple's Front Row software and shipped with an Apple Remote (I know Macs don't ship with Apple Remotes anymore you have to buy them separately) and am now pondering an update. I've heard some things about Snow Leopard not working so well with older Macs even Intel based Macs that are only 32 bit.
Thing is I just got a new MacBook Pro that shipped with Snow Leopard and it seems to run fine on the MacBook Pro except for the fact a few applications I wanted to install wouldn't work with Snow Leopard like Google Desktop for Mac so was wondering if I should update the Mac Mini also to Snow Leopard. I do not particularly like how Apple removed the transcoding features to export video from one format to another in QuickTime X that was available to QuickTime 7 Pro users (actually reinstalled QuickTime 7 Pro on my new MacBook Pro so I can still use that despite QuickTime X being installed) but like Expose integrated with the Dock Menu that's new in Snow Leopard and features like Cover Flow built into the Finder (available also in Leopard along with Spaces) so if I update the Mac Mini should I update to Snow Leopard or Leopard?
This is a 2nd generation Mac Mini (the 1st generation had PowerPC chips) with Mac OS X Tiger and I've heard some negative news about upgrading Mac Mini to Snow Leopard so I want to get some more feedback on whether or not its worth it. The Mac Mini came with iLife and iWork 06 versions but updated iWork to iWork 08 Family Pack. Still have iLife 06 though and am still running iTunes 8.2.1 on the Mac Mini.
I use this computer as my main system for syncing with iPods (I have a 5th gen video iPod and a 2nd gen iPod Touch that I sync with the iTunes Library on my Mac Mini which includes videos purchased earlier from iTunes Store and music purchases as well as TV purchases) so don't want to risk messing up the system with a Snow Leopard update if it is going to cause problems doing so. If Snow Leopard is not good for the Mac Mini will just update to Leopard and stick with Mac OS 10.5 Leopard on this system.

I upgraded my mac mini 1.5GHz core solo to a Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz in order to run most of SL's 64 bit stuff. I bought a pulled Core 2 Duo from ebay for $29 and it took about 1.5 hours to do the switch.
The main downside with the 2nd gen Mac Mini is the kernel cannot run in 64 bit mode due to a 32 bit controller that cannot be upgraded. Yet, booting into 32 bit kernel is SL's default setting and as you may have read in articles when SL came out, relying on a 32 bit kernel does not slow down use of 64 bit apps. I maxed RAM to this mac mini's 2 Gig limit years ago which is a good thing for you to do too.
I am happy to report the upgraded Mac Mini runs much faster than originally thanks to the 2 gig of RAM and the Core 2 Duo chip. Installing SL made it run faster still and consumption of memory for apps is lower (smaller pipeline requirements with faster CPU), and about 14 GIG of HDD space was recovered since I did not reinstall Xcode tools. I can now encode 1.5 hour long video files that used to take overnight processing time. CPU runs hotter, up to 89ºC, but usually run only about 10º higher on average than before while fan rev's not noticeably more than before between 1500 to 1800.
If you are not comfortable to upgrade the CPU, I think you will still find some benefit to SL for $25. Alternatively you could sell your Mac Mini on ebay (these 2nd gen model are popular for those want to do the upgrade) and use the proceeds to buy a refurbished current gen Mac Mini.

  • Does Mac mini w/o Intel have infrared?

I'm just wondering, does the Mac mini with out Intel have built-in infrared?
      Windows XP

Nope. I bought the $799 flavor (as tricked out as they got before the new Intel version) and it doesn't have it. I think the iMac w/iSight (G5 and Intel) and Mac Mini w/Intel are the only ones that do.
I mentioned in another post I made how I wish they would sell a USB infrared adaapter and let you download Front Row. I'm just curious if nothing else.
If you are a PC/Windows user, don't be afraid to switch. Aside from sheer number of games, you will be amazed at even the Mac Mini.

  • Symantec AntiVirus LiveUpdate hangs my mac mini intel

Hello. I have an intel mac mini running mac osx 10.4.6 I
installed norton antivirus corporate edition (site-licensed
at my university) and all worked well.
That is, it did until I installed the firmware update on
the mini. Since then, when I try to run live update, the
system hangs, and all I can do is move the cursor around
the screen with the mouse. Can't click on anything, can't
break out with the keyboard, nothing. Need to reboot.
I can't find any information on this on the symantec site.
crDo you guys know anything about it?
Based on another thread I read here, I looked at crontab
(crontab -l), and it said "no crontab".
    Thanks very much
Mac Mini duo intel   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I don't know what is causing your issues, but in the meantime you can get the latest virus definitions from sites such as MacUpdate (just type "norton" in the search field).
FYI definitions for Norton Antivirus X 9 will also work with Norton AV X 10.
BTW there have been two firmware updates for Intel-based Mac minis (Firmware Update 1.0.1 and SMC Firmware Update). Which one did you install before the issue came up ?
