Mac Mini wont go to sleep!

just brought a mac mini a few days ago, everything is all good apart from the fact it wont go to sleep. When pressing the power button on the back or press/holding the play button on the remote the mini sleeps for a grand total of about 5 seconds before switching back on.
Help on this matter would be very much appreciated.
kash

yeah sure thing but its pritty dam simple! i just shut it down then re-started it. Think it was because as soon as i had got it out of the box i hadnt switched it off so any updates hadnt been installed properly.
SO to all new mac mini owners dont be alarmed if ur mini doesnt sleep when u first try it out , just switch it off and on again .

Using 2 displays, connected via HDMI and thunderbolt
Been on to support a number of times now - is anyone experiencing the same issues?

    BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
    kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps?

  • ITunes crashed now Mac mini wont power back on

iTunes crashed now Mac mini wont power back on

You have not provided any information on which to base troubleshooting. Minimal information would include the Model Mac mini you have for example Mid 2010 Mac mini, exactly what happened when iTunes crashed, and what -- if anything -- happens when you try to restart. It is unlikely iTunes has anything to do with the failure to reboot but instead iTunes crashed because of what even caused your Man mini to fail.
Just as a starting point, be sure and check all your connections, power, monitor, keyboard, mouse, everything. You would not be the first to have a plug come adrift unexpectedly.

  • My mac mini wont boot from disk

My 2010 Unibody Mac Mini wont boot from disk, i need to open disk utility to repair my drive but it wont boot, any ideas?

it started yesterday, and nope, not changed anything apart from the apple update for S.L. a week or two ago, and its stuck at the spinning gear, this has never happened before

  • Apple Remote and Mac mini wont pair

My remote works fine with Mac mini and Plex and Sofa Control. But I am unable to pair them. The settings are right and when I press Menu + Fwd nothing happens, no Pairing icon on the screen.
The situation is a frustration since I have an Apple TV besides connected to a second Apple Remote. Since my Mac mini wont pair, the Apple TV remote controls them both.
Does anyone had a similar problem and found a sollution?

Does it pair if the ATV remote is disabled?

Does this mean i have to get my Logic Board changed due to malfunction, or is there some other problem? Please assist...
    Thanks in advance

No. In fact I wouldn't even worry about it unless this becomes a continuous problem. No software on Earth is perfect. There are, however, some tips you might want to consider:
Some of the backtrace appears that you're running VMWare, and quite honestly I don't know what types of bugs might be present in it.
If you're using a third party drive with third party add-ons and drivers, they can sometimes be problematic.
I know Seagate had software that was problematic with Mountain Lion and they're supposedly putting out updates to fix the problems (might already be done for all I know).
A single crash isn't a big deal. If it's crashing periodically, the it's a problem.

  • My mac mini wont turn on but there is power to it as the usb port charges my iPad

My mac mini wont turn on but there is power to it as the usb port charges my iPad. My monitor uses a HDMI cable when the mac mini is off it says no input received which it does not say so it is receiving some signal from the mac mini. I have tried a different cable and a different monitor/ hdmi cable. The fan isnt running there is no start up noise but the little light on the front blinks every 4-5 seconds. Im booked in to see a GENIUS on sunday but I was wondering if there is anything I can do in the mean time. The mac mini is only 8 months old if that. Any ideas people? Oh the mac is also running mountain lion and has been since the day of release i've never had a problem up until this.

The following table lists the new tones and their meaning:
    Tone(s)          Description
1 tone, a 5-second pause, repeat          No RAM installed
3 successive tones, a 5-second pause, 3 successive tones          RAM does not pass data integrity check
1 long tone when holding down the power button          Firmware upgrade in process. See About firmware updates for Intel-based Macs for more details.
3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones          Firmware restoration from CD in process. See About the Firmware Restoration CD (Intel-based Macs) for more details.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2538
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Mac Mini wont' Display Sleep after Yosemite Update

My Mac Mini is no longer going into Display Sleep. Instead I now see the Screen Saver.  I have checked System Preferences | Energy Saver and it is definitely set to Display Sleep after 10 minutes (The default). What is interesting is that if I try to change the Display Sleep time (e.g. to 1 hour), when I go back into Energy Saver, it is back to 10 minutes - this doesn't look right!  In fact none of the options (e.g. Wake on LAN) seem to stay changed.
This seemed to start after the update to Yosemite 10.10.1 a few days ago - but that might be coincidental. Until then Display Sleep had worked fine.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Nick

  • Mac mini wont sleep..neither will my powermac g4?

Okay, so i have a new mac mini, a 1.83 dual core intel processor with 2 gig of ram and 2 user accounts which are always loaded and one always runs paralells windows xp. everything is updated and for the first couple months of having it, i made it so it would never sleep. now i set it to thirty minutes then sleep, but it didnt ever work. then i set it to sleep after one minute to just see if that was what it was and it didnt do that, either. i dont know whats interferring with it, maybe the apc backup battery program running, too? because my powermac g4 digital audio does it, too. it never will sleep on its own. but both work perfectly fine other than that and sleep fine and wake when i press the sleep button. any other reasons why? thanks!

there is a lot on this forum regarding sleep problems. search away...
with apps freezing you may have other problems. for starters try booting with your system disc, find "disk utility", run "repair disk" and "repair disk permissions".

  • Mac Mini G4 refuses to sleep due to KVM switcher

I have a KVM switcher + powered USB hub hooked up between my Mac Mini G4 and a PC- while the PC is able to enter standby mode, my Mac always wakes up within 3 seconds of entering sleep mode. Belkin tech support said this is due to the Mac receiving USB signals (albeit me not moving the mouse, touching the keyboard, etc), and told me to ask Apple how to disable this feature.
Ideally, I'd like the computer only to wake up from a keyboard signal, but the powered hub might be making that unfeasible. However, I'm okay with taking the Mac out of sleep mode by pressing the button on its back.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this (as my LCD monitor's output is beginning to suffer)?
    Thanks,
    Jamie

Hi, Jamie. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. You wrote: "I have a KVM switcher + powered USB hub"It's unclear if you mean:
    a. Two separate peripheral devices, i.e. KVM switchbox and a powered USB hub.
    b. One peripheral device that performs both functions.1.1. Which is it, (a) or (b)?
1.2. If (b), is the USB hub is connected to each computer, or the KVM switchbox? If the former, try the latter. Don't connect the same USB hub directly two two computers2. You wrote: "Belkin tech support said this is due to the Mac receiving USB signals (albeit me not moving the mouse, touching the keyboard, etc), and told me to ask Apple how to disable this feature."If you make any change to USB devices (power them on or off, connect or disconnect them) on a USB chain that connects to the Mac, then the Mac will wake.
This feature cannot be disabled: it is a function of the circuitry.
If you look at the "USB Ports" section of the "Devices and Ports" chapter of the Mac Mini G4 Developer Note, in the subsection entitled "USB Features" you will see:"Wake Up From Sleep
USB devices can provide a remote wakeup function for the computer. The USB root hub in the computer is set to support remote wakeup whenever a device is attached to or disconnected from the bus. The keyboard that comes with the computer uses this method to wake the computer on a key press.
    Connect and Resume
The Intrepid ASIC contains special circuitry that allows the computer to wake from sleep mode on connect, disconnect, and resume events. Compatible USB devices should support the USB-suspend mode defined in the USB specification."Therefore, if you put your Mini to sleep, then connect, disconnect, power-on, or power-off a USB device on any USB chain connected to the Mini, the Mini will wake.
    3. It may also be that either the KVM switchbox or USB Hub (whether alone or a combined device) could be defective. I one had a similar problem where I'd put one of my Macs to sleep and it would wake immediately. Turned out to be a bad Belkin USB hub. Removing the hub restored normal sleep function.
    Good luck!

been researching the regular "Overtemp signal" received by my mini (Mac Mini PPC G4/PowerMac 10,1, 1.42GHz, 1G RAM, Tiger 10.4.11) followed by forced sleep since around the time i updated adobe flash a month ago. it goes to sleep whenever i run streaming video or multiple resource-heavy apps. the fan motor seems to top out, wind down and the mini's power light pulsates slowly/softly. if upon waking the mini a video or heavy process is still running, the cpu often sleeps before i can quit any such process.
i tried reverting to an older version of flash to no avail. i have reset both the PMU and PRAM. i've run Disk Utility from the system disk. iStat Pro reports an average of 130°F/55°C. around a year ago i opened, cleaned and upgraded the RAM in my mini in a clean room. can't imagine it could be worse in there than then when the computer functioned fine.
i found out about Narcoleptic Aluminum Powerbook Syndrome, and found a user that had most carefully removed his PB's temperature sensor. is it possible that i have a faulty sensor? bad fan (even though it sounds like it runs clean)? anything else i could potentially fix using iFixit's manuals?
    here are my log files:

Is it possible that the air vents have become blocked? One mini owner had a cat that liked to sleep next to the mini, which caused the air vents to get clogged with cat hair.
Do you have any print jobs that haven't completed? OS X can try to reprint, causing CPU to spike. Doesn't sound like the issue here, but worth a check.
Definitely sounds like a flash-related problem. Have you tried ClickToFlash? It can be downloaded here: http://clicktoflash.com/ . I use this on our G4-based systems, including a mini. This may help.

  • Help my Mac mini wont work with the airpot

I have got the Mac mini Intel Core Solo G5 model and ive got a ibook G4 my G4 works great and fine but my mac mini does not. I connect to the base station fine useing the drop down bit on the taskbar in finder and enter the password and it connects. But when i do network assistant and it asks for me to eneter the password again it just basicly frezzes for a min then says invalid password when i know that it is the write base station password. It did work once but froze again and said could not connect. and when i go into the airport utlity it can't descover the base station even though it says it is connected with a full signal, im doing the excatly same things i did with my ibook but it just wont work. Please can someone help me and tell me what i have to do or give me some support this is my last hope as apple aren't intrested. I will be very gratful!

The software update was for Intel based Mac computers and does not specify Core Duo or Core 2 Duo:
    AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001
This update is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers and provides compatibility with AirPort Extreme base stations and networks.
This is the update that generated a fix at www.macfixit.com because some folks have been having issues with connection with their internet provider and some people have had issue with their airport systems just shutting down.
It was part of an auto update that was received. One of my Macs is a MacBook Pro Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) and this upgrade (download) was part of the update check that is automatically performed.

    Hi Yamivash 0-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
It sounds like it is overheating. Have you cleaned the air vents out lately?
