Sounds like each time you restart, the Mac OS rebuilds itself giving you the expected results for completing your objective of burning an iDVD, which makes sense. What doesn't make sense is what is currently causing your G4 to crash each time you ask it to burn a DVD forcing a restart in order to accomplish this task....assuming it does indeed burn to disc.
Here's what I recommend since I suspect you may be having an issue with external devices. Disconnect any and all externals from your emac (except the keyboard and mouse). Launch iMovie. Build a short 3 min. iMovie project and share it to iDVD6. Post back with the results and let us know if your mac encounters the same results w/o any externals connected to your mac.
If your ext. device is what you are currently using to burn your project, then i'd recommend burning this short project to a disc image first and thereafter connecting the ext. fw burner to complete the final stage.
Hope this helps but if not please feel free to post back.

  • Mac Mini G4 - USB-Laufwerk bootet nicht

    Hallo,

It's probably something specific with this drive then. I tried reformatting it with Disk Utility both with the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and MS-DOS filesystems, but there was no change.
Could the Mac be trying to boot from this drive, and if so, is there a way on the G4 Mini to configure the boot drive? I tried this in the system preferences but it's already set to boot from the HD.
This is my mom's computer so it's kind of hard to explain this kind of quirk to her, which is why I'm looking to see if there's a solution where she can keep the drive in all the time. We finally just got past how you should eject the drive before pulling it out of the USB port, and now it may be how you have to remove the drive before you start the computer. Like explaining a British sports car, pull this knob then that lever...

I have a first edition mac mini and internal speaker are not enabled yet.. what can I do?

If you are using an HDMI connection, go to Apple / System Preferences / Sound and see if you can select the Built-In Speakers?
If you have headphones, buds or something plugged into the Audio Output jack, unplug it.
If not then perhaps the micro switch inside the Audio Output jack is stuck? In that case, try plugging and unplugging some headphones, buds or something in and out a few times to see if it will un-stick.
If it will not un-stick, then you will need to make an appointment for service.

  • How do I migrate my itunes library from an external hard drive to my mac mini's internal hard drive?

I have my iTunes library on an external hard drive because my macbook pro's internal hard drive didn't have enough room.  I would like to migrate or transfer the itunes files while continuing to keep my playlists.  Is there a way to do that with the migration software?

Thank you for your help.  My biggest concern is losing all of my sorted music into playlists. I have 124GB of music and resorting it will very difficult.  When I moved the itunes library with the help of a supervisor at apple tech to the external HD I had to resort it.
Will it move the entire library and setting as they are now?

  • How best to move user folder to a Mac Mini + external drive

I am streamlining my desktop computer setup. Whereas before I was using a PowerMac G5 as my primary desktop computer, I realize I am using my MacBook Pro more often, so in the interests of conserving space, I will be switching over to a Mac Mini connected to my AV system for hosting all my iTunes music, videos, media, photos, etc.
Here is where I need advice. My PowerMac has a lot more media on it than can fit on the internal hard drive of a Mac Mini. I have already secured a 1 TB external drive which will be permanently connected to the Mac Mini, but I am unsure as to how to best go about copying my data to it.
My initial thought was that I could move the iTunes music folder to the external drive using the library consolidation feature, and I could copy my iPhoto library to it, then point the respective applications to the new location. However, I want the external to act as my home folder where the OS looks for all my personal data, including movies, documents, etc.
I know there is a procedure for changing your home folder's location to an external drive, but because of the limited size of the Mac Mini's internal HD, I would like to use migration assistant when I first start using the Mac Mini. Should I hold off on moving the home folder until after I have migrated, or can it be done beforehand?
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for the procedure. It seems very easy, but I am wondering about the consequences depending on when I do it. For example, let's say I first copy my entire home folder to the 1 TB external drive, set up the PowerMac to use it as my home folder, then use migration assistant to import my user accounts, applications, and settings onto the Mac Mini. Will it try to extract the data from the external drive onto the Mac Mini's internal drive? There won't be enough room for everything.
As an alternative, I can move my iTunes library and iPhoto library onto the 1 TB external first, keeping the rest of my user data in its original location. Then it can fit on the Mac Mini, and I can do the migration, then move the home folder to the 1TB external once it's all up and running on the new computer.
    Which will work best?
I had heard about people using a single drive as their home folder across multiple computers, but that is not the case for me. My MacBook Pro will become my primary computer, but I intend to keep it clear of media, whereas the MacMini will become my media server for my AV system in my living room. The 1 TB will be constantly connected to the Mac Mini, so there shouldnt be a problem with starting it up once the user folder location has been moved.

  • I created a new home folder on an external but didn't move my old files over. Now I can't see the old hard drive in my mac mini. How can I locate that drive?

I wanted to move my home folder to an external drive. I created a new home folder and in advanced options I moved it over. I didn't however move my files over first, my bad. Now I can't see the hard drive on my mac mini. Is it possible to reverse it or get access to the old home folder and is it possible to still use the mac mini's internal hard drive for storage? How do I find my shared folder, it was on the internal drive. I'm new to macs as you might have guessed at this debockle. Can anyone help?

I'm using Mavricks. I wanted to move my home directory to an external and went into sys prop/users/advanced options and moved the folder ok. Being a noobie on Macs I didn't copy my data and such. So my settings were all new. Basicly now I don't see the internal drive on my mini. There is a lot of strage I'm not able to access. The internal drive doesn't show up. How can I put a folder back onto it so it shows up?

  • Mac mini (late 2012) Windows 8 Pro: no HDMI audio & driver error

    Bootcamp 5.0.1
Mac mini (late 2012) server, installed boot camp on the second HD and gave entire HD to bootcamp partition.
Installed Windows 8 Pro from USB key created during installation from iso file, activated with Microsoft. Everything went smoothly, have one issue that I want to share, to see if anyone has been able to resolve. By the way, magic track pad, as expected only have basic functions supported, left and right click, scroll with two fingers, "tap to click" and secondary click with two fingers tap.
Only one issue so far but pretty major one. Audio through HDMI cable doesn't work, all sound plays via Mac-mini's internal speakers. Windows Device Manager shows error for "High Definition Audio Device" - The device cannot start. (Code 10).

Well, arguably bootcamp 5.0.1 does support Widows 7 or higher, there no reference anywhere that it doesn't.
I was able to fix issue by updating driver using intel audio driver. Everything works now...

  • No Sound through HDMI - Mac Mini

Hello Forum, New user to this forum, I have a problem, I have bought Mac Mini ( August,2010) for home use and recently bought LG -32LD450 - 32". I have connected my TV directly to Mac Mini using a 1.3X HDMI cable. I have video/ display - however no sound. All i can hear is sound from the Mac Mini's internal speaker. I tried to change the setting through - System preference/sound/output. It displays - LG / HDMI - however i cannot select, the setting is active with internal speakers only. Please advise how i can obtain audio from the TV.
I forgot to mention the message seen in System Preference/Sound/Output - LG TV HDMI - Settings for the Selected Device : The Selected Device has no output controls.
In addition to the above, i have tried to check the output controls through Utilities/Audio Midi Setup. Here too i am not in a position to alter HDMI Settings.
Help in this regards is highly appreciated...thanks
    Please help

Krusdublin: I am experiencing similar issues with no real solution yet:
I have a Mac Mini 2010 connected to a Sony Bravia HD TV via an HDMI cable
sound output via TV speakers was not working when I first connected the two (about 4 mos ago)
couldn't figure it out- and just used an headphone cable to connect the mac mini to a stereo
somewhere between then and a month ago I disconnected all incl. power, and reconnected as I had to re-setup my tv (all reconnected in the same outlets via HDMI) (also got rid of the stereo at this point)
then about a month ago I was back in the Sound preferences and found that I was able to get audio output via the TV speakers.
about a week or so ago I disconnected all incl. power, and reconnected as I had to re-setup my tv (all reconnected in the same outlets via HDMI)
however, about 3 days ago, sound output via TV was no longer an option
when I say it is not an option, I have two lines under name and types as follows:
    "Internal Speakers" > "Built-In Output"
    "SONY TV" > "HDMI"
when I switch from internal speakers to HDMI, I notice that the sound volume bar at the bottom of the screen goes faint, and I can't adjust the volume using the sound keys on my keyboard (bluetooth)
the speaker icon in the top right of the screen is also greyed-out and not changeable...
I notice that when I switch input on my TV aerial to the MacMini (HDMI 1) I get a little yellow triangle with exclamation mark in it, and the text: "AUDIO only" at the bottom right of the tv screen. (In not sure if I had this before or not - dont completely remember seeing it, but vaguely do...)
I've also updated my macmini whenever an update is released (within a few days)...
I've spoken with an Apple tech over the phone and went through a number of reboot (while holding down certain keys, etc.) to no avail. She then recommended that I go into the Apple store and have the mini checked out....
At the apple store, the apple tech took the machine to the back, out of sight, and returned about 20 mins later to say that it was working fine. I asked to have it hooked up to one on display - so I could see for myself. We hooked it up to an HDTV via HDMI and booted up. Went to System Preferences > Sound and selected: "Panasonic TV" as the output device. I still could not adjust the volume bar (it went greyed out) - but I could crank up the tv volume directly and get sound. Great! Sort of... While now I could get sound - it was not the same as before where I could control the sound through the mac - only directly through the TV. The Apple guy said that he didn't know what I was talking about - and said that they way the machine was now working was the proper way. He unhooked my mac mini, and gave it to me, and walked away.
Frustrated, I walked down to the Sony Store to try out the mac mini there. Same result as in the Apple store. I could control sound directly via the TV, but not through the mac mini controls.
Took the mac mini home, reconnected everything and now get sound through the TV - but I cant control it with the mac mini on-screen controls, nor the volume buttons on the mac blue tooth keyboard.
Today, I was watching a movie via itunes, hit pause, and went to do something for a few minutes. When I returned, the TV indicated 'no signal' via the HDMI (I assume because the mini went to sleep.) Tried to wake the mini - but couldn't. Had to resort to pressing the button at the back. When the mini came back, I had no sound at all coming through the TV speakers, even though the sound preferences settings were still the same. I had to resort to shutting down the mac mini, and then unplugging the power on the mini for a few minutes. Powering back up, sound was again able to comefromt eh mac through the TV speakers - but still could not control sound using the mac mini controls.......
Thats where Im at so far....
    Aarrgh.
    THOUGHTS?
    Thanks in advance,
    MAJM

  • Mac Mini Kernel Panic on startup

    Hi everyone.
I am having a particularly annoying problem with a Mac Mini 4,1 (2010).
My problem is, in fact, almost identical to a similar discussion from last December:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2698431?threadID=2698431
I have followed an identical protocol. I couldn't boot the Mac Mini using either an OSX install DVD or USB stick, but I was able to mount the Mac Mini's internal hard drive as a firewire drive on my laptop.
Using this method I was able to zero out the hard drive and install OSX 10.6. My MBP would then boot just fine from the Mini's HDD using firewire. But when trying to start the Mini itself I encounter a kernel panic every time. Similarly I encounter a KP when I try and boot from an install DVD or USB, or try and boot into safe mode, verbose mode, single user mode and the hardware diagnostic mode.
I have tried with different RAM, I have reset the PRAM and I have resent the SMC.
Verbose mode crashes on a line referencing the AppleHDADriver, which I presume is an audio driver.
The only option I can see remaining is to take out various components, such as the airport card etc until I have something that starts up.
I would like to try and restore the firmware, but Apple apparently haven't released a firmware restoration CD for the Mac Mini 4,1...which is odd.
Anyway, any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

Hi, I have a mac mini server (mid-2010 aluminium version). Recently I want to erase the HD and reinstall the osx server because I do like the way the system was set up. However, I cannot boot up the mac mini using the original install DVD. The computer just display the apple logo, followed by the spinning wheel with grey screen and nothing happens. I cannot get into the os installaion. I have tried the DVD using external FireWire and USB DVD writer, and also tried putting the DVD into my MacBook and do remote install osx but still have the same problem.
I suspect that the DVD that come with the computer may not be the correct build version for the aluminium mac mini because it has newer hardware components. I wonder how many people will have problem using the original install DVD ?

  • Using a D-Link DBT-120 with a Bluetooth-enabled Mac Mini

I have one of the original Mac Minis with internal bluetooth. Because of the placement of the unit and the mouse that I just purchased, the internal bluetooth is not sensing the mouse unless I place it very near to the Mac Mini and on the same plane. To get around this, I was hoping to use a D-Link DBT-120 attached to an extension USB cord which can be placed near to the mouse. I have checked in the System Profiler and it shows the DBT-120 but I don't know how to proceed further to pair my mouse to it. If I turn on bluetooth, I'm back to using the internal bluetooth and then can't even access Bluetooth Preferences.
Any help anyone could provide in setting this up to use the DBT-120 rather than the internal bluetooth is appreciated.

As far as I know, (from reading similar earlier posts) you can't tell the Mac which Bluetooth hardware to use. It will always try to use the internal module. So unless you can physically remove it I don't think you'll be able to use the D-Link.

  • Problems on 2011 Mac Mini....Help Needed Please!

    Hi,
I have an entry level 2011 Mac Mini (base model but with 8gb ram installed), I bought it in early August.
It has just started being very unresponsive, crashing, locking up, multi-coloured timer, finder crashing.
I have a magic trackpad/wireless keyboard and the following peripherals connected.
A 2tb Samsung USB HDD Drive
    A Sony BD Writer (USB)
An Arcam rDac (Digital to Analogue converter) USB also
I also have 2 x 2 TB WD NAS drives connected via a HP Procurve Gigabit Switch.
I use the Mac for iTunes (via Pure Music) with the Arcam rDac (connected in turn to my hi-fi)
I also have Plex installed and Make MKV and am ripping BD's to the Mac Mini's internal HDD and copying them over the Samsung/NAS. Every now and again I get error -50, error -8076, and error -36
That's it, I use nothing else on the Mac, not even Safari or email.
It is connected to a 60 inch Pioneer plasma via HDMI, I also have an iPad 1 which I use for the Remote app for itunes and also have Remoter VNC installed.
I have the Mac (and PS3 a Sky HD box) connected to an HDMI switch then on to the Plasma, the Mac has started being twitchy with regard to handshake, sometimes it is flawless, other times I get a snowy screen and it can take up to a minute or to connect. The other devices connected always work perfectly, and trying another cable or input into the switch makes no difference.
Everything valuable is backed up, shall I Shift+R and reinstall Lion, or is there something else I need to do?
Sorry for the all of the questions
    Thanks
    David

Sorry I should have said when moving files around I meant larger files.
    USB sticks seem absolutely fine.
anything over say 5GB COULD be a problem.
Sometimes Finder (and the Mac) just locks up (can't move mouse pointer or anything) whilst in the process of moving of file. Sometimes I get an error code (8076, 30 & 50 spring to mid).
I've had this moving both the USB drive (2tb) and the NAS.

  • Using Mac Mini as a home music server

    Hi,
I own an unused 2009 Mac Mini and some 800G of music (in Apple Lossless format).  I was thinking of upgrading Mac Mini's internal HD to 1TB, download my Music into the Mac Mini and wire it to one of our 2 Hi-Fi sound systems.
As we also own a SONOS system, the music could then be played wirelessly into different locations within our house, including another Hi-Fi sound system.
The other pieces of hardware we own are :
    - One 2010 Mac Book Pro w. Mountain Lion (350 G / 8 G of RAM)
    - One 2011 Apple TV
    - One Ipad 2 (64 G)
    - Two Iphones 4S (16 G)
    - 3 other Ipods
Of course, we would like the music to be available from all these devices as well, especially to be able to manage our Iphones/Ipods from our MacBook Pro (where agenda, contacts, pictures... resides under two different profiles - and two Itunes/appstore accounts)
I am asking here in order to validate :
Q1 -  Is that this is a workable architecture, or  I am mistaken in this design ?
Q1.1 - Would it be more efficient to put the music library on an extarnal drive lwired to the Router and access it from all devices ?
Q1.2 - Will access from the other devices will be best acheived by granting read/write privileges to the users on the Mac Pro on the Mac Mini (so Mac Pro Itune can point directly to the remote library), or by sharing the music library via music sharing ?
Q2 - would I need a special server OS on the Mac Mini ?
    Here is a schema.
    Many thanks for your input.

iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the whole iTunes folder and all its subfolders and files intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
If your whole iTunes folder + library files is already on the external, simply start the other computer's iTunes with the option key held down after the drive has mounted.
