.mac/mobileme/mail querstions.....

Hello, not sure if I should have listed this under MobileMe or in this forum, but hopefully you guys will be able to help out. I am curious to know since I can have multiple MobilMe aliases if I can have more than 1 alias's emails come to my single inbox in the mail application. Here is an example of why I would want to do this to maybe help you guys understand my question.....
All my friends and family will have my email address that I use most of the time, which is what I would like. Then for all the other crap like Mass mailing lists that I have joined for coupons, company news, etc come to another alias to avoid junk mail, etc to my main email address which I plan to keep forever?
Hopefully this makes sense,
Thanks
Steve

MobileMe Mail suddenly STOPPED showing Incoming Mail on my Mac

Again, thanks for your very comprehensive input. I forgot that I still am not now able to sync my iPhone calendar, contacts or Bookmarks with my MacBook calendar, contacts or Bookmarks.
I will try your suggestion "to sync my calendars to iCloud by means of (the) unsupported hack,  This page outlines the situation when you have migrated to iCloud on Snow Leopard, including a link to the calendar hack:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
Maybe something will evolve for syncing my Contacts and Bookmarks and iCloud.
(My MacBook - SnowLeopard - 1.83 GHz, Intel Core Duo -- will NOT accommodate Lion.
Is there any way to upgrade my processor to Intel Core 2 Duo?

  • Whats the difference between  MobileMe Mail forums 960 and 961?

There are two MobileMe Mail forums. One is under "MobileMe on www.me.com" and the other is under "MobileMe on my Mac". There isn't really a new desktop mail application is there? Or am I living in a cave, and just didn't notice the update/announcement?

    Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're seeing ...
No I think you understand. It is just that I've been reading some of the posts in those forums, and it is often hard to tell what exactly people are talking about. The terminology used made me think maybe I had missed something. Maybe there was a MobileMe Mail App on my Mac, I thought that could 'sync' something.
    Examples:
[Where has 'Mail Rules' gone..?|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7645781#7645781] seemed to be describing a webmail interface, but then I wasn't sure.
[Mobile me mail doesn't work at all.|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1616729&tstart=0] mentions mail on the web, but then addresses
[Syncing Mail Folders w/ MobileMe|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1616331&tstart=0] mentions syncing mail folders; made me think maybe there was a feature I had misunderstood.
In general, it is a little hard to tell when people are talking about the web interface or the traditional desktop Mail.app.

When I "Add Account", I get this message..

    ANy ideas?

I'd ask in the MobileMe forums first:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=228
    then the Snow Lewopard forums:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=263
As this sounds less like a machine-specific issue than a general OS or MobileMe issue, I would think you are more likely to find a solution in either of those two areas.

  • Older Macs, MobileMe, Lion and Mtn Lion Question

My wife’s 2006 MBP Core Duo didn’t make the cut for Lion, but is going strong with Snow Leopard. In fact, about 6 months ago I put a new 2.5 inch 500 GB 7200 rpm drive in it that replaced the 80 GB 5400 rpm drive, plus added another 1/2 GB of RAM, and it’s running faster than it ever has. The battery is pretty much worn out, but she has an iPad so the MBP never moves.
My concern is what the effect of Apple doing away with MobileMe this summer is going to do. She syncs her iPhone, iPad and MBP mail and calendars thru MobileMe. I don’t know if she’s hosed after that or not.
What if anything can one do to sync Mail, Calendars etc after MobileMe goes away?
OS 10.6.8 is the end of the line for that machine and you need 10.7 for full iCloud functionality, which this MBP can't run. Is there any Apple literature that discusses these issues?

You can migrate from MobileMe to iCloud at http://me.com/move even with Snow Leopard: when asked to confirm that your Mac is running Lion just lie and say 'yes'. Of course you won't be able to access iCloud directly from your Mac.
If you have MobileMe mail set up to collect mail from external POP accounts you should cancel this before migrating, or you may find it still working in iCloud (where it isn't supposed to) and with no way of stopping it.
This will be the situation with Snow Leopard when you have migrated:
Your email, calendars, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud. Contacts and Bookmarks cannot be migrated from a Snow Leopard Mac.
Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
You will be able to access email and calendars on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.  BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).
Someone mentioned Evernote: this syncs memos only, between its own application on different machines or devices. It's independent of any of the Apple applications; it works fine on Snow Leopard.
This article examines some of the third-party alternatives to MobileMe:

  • Mac e-mail address

How does one get a mac e-mail address of whatever kind, either mac.com (which I understand no longer exists) with MobileMe or by any other venue? Apple Support tells me that mac e-mail addresses are available, so how does one go about it?
    Thank you.

  • What will happen to my mac e-mail account if I don't go to Icloud

I have just updated to Snow Leopard but do not want to add the extra memory to run Lion.  When Mobile me finishes if I don't join icloud will I still have an email account with mac.  I do not have anyother mac devises so really don't think I need icloud?

If you do not migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud before the end of June it will cease to work, everything will be deleted, and you will lose your email address.

  • Mail can't send mobileme mail

On two iPads, mobileme mail gets stuck on 'sending'. It periodically will say that smtp.me.com failed. I've tried deleting the account to no avail. I can receive email and browse the internet no problem.
Possibly related, I upgraded my router to a Time Capsule at about the same time this started happening, but I can't be sure it is the problem. I have an iMac on the same wireless network that can send email from the same address.

I don't think it would make sense that the router would haveanything to do with it. I am having the same issue, but only from the Mac Mailapp. My iPad and iPhone have no issues sending Mail. For whatever reason, theapp couldn't send mail the day of Apple's announcement of iCloud and theclosing of MobileMe. It shouldn’t affect it because MobileMe will still bearound until next year but I still think it’s a little weird.

  • TS4003 Now have iCloud mail. But the 'Sent' folder messages (only) did not transfer from MobileMe Mail

Now have iCloud mail. But the 'Sent' folder messages (only) did not transfer from MobileMe Mail.

Your first theory may be correct.
If you haven't already, change your password on your .mac account. That will stop any further action by the other fellow. Even if you can't tease out the detail of what happened exactly, you can at least fix the problem with the password change.
Also if you left on good terms, contact the new owner of the workMac and ask if s/he used your .mac account.

  • Migrating MobileMe Mail account to iCloud?

    Strange....
I have two MobileMe mail accounts.  Only one of them moved to iCloud when I downloaded Lion 7.2 and the other stayed a "MobileMe" account.  I can't figure out how to convert the remaining MobileMe account to an iCloud account.
I've tried setting it up in the Mail program by manually adding it as a iCloud account, but it doesn't work.
    Any suggestions?
Note:  It IS a separte e-mail account--not an alias account.
    Thanks much!
    Steve

Are you using an @mac.com Apple ID, e.g., [email protected]? Try [email protected]; my daughter had the same issue with a recently created account & I found the following somewhere:
Can I send and receive email from both @mac.com and @me.com?
If you had a working @mac.com email address as of July 9, 2008 you can continue to use that address as you always have, as well as your new address @me.com. And emails sent to either address will appear in your inbox on the web as well as your devices. For instructions on how to use both email addresses, including how to set up your Mac, PC, iPhone, or iPod touch, read Setting up MobileMe email on your Mac.

If you right click on a son in iTunes and click Get Info. Under the Sorting tab iyo can change how the songs is sorted in iTunes
Tips for using song and CD info to organize your music
You can edit information in the Info window to make it easier to find and sort items in your library. For example, you can:
Group individual movements on a classical CD into one work by indicating the name of the work (for example, “Piano concerto in A Minor, Op. 54”) in the Grouping field.
Group songs that are part of a compilation together in your library by clicking Details and selecting the checkbox next to “Album is a compilation of songs by various artists”.
Identify the individual artists on a tribute album in the Artist field, and type “various” in the Album Artist field.
Create your own genre category by clicking Details and typing the category in the Genre field.
Change the order in which tracks on a CD play by changing the numbers in the Track fields.
Create a Smart Playlist that includes only songs that are just the right speed for your workout by typing the number of beats per minute in the BPM field. For instructions, see Create a Smart Playlist.
Identify a movie as a music video (click the Options button, and choose Music Video from the Media Kind pop-up menu).
Identify an item that you imported from a CD as an audiobook, so it appears under Audiobooks instead of Music (click the Options button and choose Audiobook from the Media Kind pop-up menu). If you do this, iTunes also remembers your place in the audiobook.
Enter custom sorting criteria for an item. Select the item, choose File > Get Info, click Sorting, and enter the custom text.
Does the non-syncing songs play in iTunes on the computer?
is there anything different about the songs that do sync and those that do not? Like where they cam from? The format (Get Info>under the File tab).

  • How do I duplicate the folders in Mail on my Mac to Mail in iCloud?

I have set up a series of folders in Mail on my Mac where I file all of my emails.
During the day I often access Mail on a PC via iCloud and there are no folders set up on my iCloud version.
Is it possible to duplicate my folder set up from Mail on my Mac to Mail on iCloud and to have changes made on one (e.g. messages deleted, new folders raised etc.) reflected on the other?

You should create your mail folders on the iCloud server (under ICLOUD in Mail), not locally on your Mac (under ON MY MAC) for them to show up on other devices and at iCloud.com.
Anything stored locally on your Mac only exists on that specific Mac so leave all your mail on the server and organise it there.

  • "On My Mac" saved mail gone since upgrading to Mountain Lion

I upgraded my iMac from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion this past week. Mail worked fine for a few days and then my Mail Rules and my "On My Mac" saved mail (DECADES worth of mail!!!) disappeared.
I have both a Time Machine backup of my Snow Leopard from right before the upgrade, as well as a SuperDuper clone.
I have already tried the following:
Rebuilding the mailbox (it rebuilt my Inbox, but nothing showed up "On My Mac" and no, nothing is hidden.
Copying the Mail folder from my Snow Leopard backup to my Mountain Lion desktop and copying the .mbox files and associated .plist files for the "On My Mac" saved mail into the "Mailbox" folder in V2 on Mountain Lion. When I then launched Mail it showed "On My Mac" and the names of all of my saved mail folder, but those folders were empty. I attempted to rebuild those folders, but nothing showed up.
Importing the .mbox files from the "On My Mac" saved mail, but it only showed two Sent Items folders as being able to be imported. None of my actual "On My Mac" many saved mail folders.
I could really use some help here. I have already posted on Macintouch and nothing suggested has helped thus far.
I really cannot lose my saved mail. The contents of each of those .mbox saved mail folders absolutely contains my saved email. There are tons of "emlx" files.
    Thanks!

    Misery loves company. ;-)
Glad you found yours. What did you do to make it show up in Mail again?
I just got off the phone with Apple support and still have no resolution. I got kicked up one level and now that person has to kick it up again because they don't know how to fix my problem. I have been told it could be up to 48 hours until I hear from someone again. Ugh
Your mention of the "archive" folder sent me to look at my mailbox structure.
For some reason, I appear to have 2 mailboxes for my .Mac email (sorry - I still call it .Mac!). I don't know why, and each has 1GB of stuff in it. The first one has an archive.mbox with only a .plist in it. No folders. The other one has neither a .plist nor a folder. The other .mbox stuff has both a .plist and a folder with individual files (emails).
I really shouldn't have to revert to Snow Leopard to get my stuff back. There has got to be a way to have Mountain Lion Mail read my Saved Mail (On My Mac) folder. It's got 3GB of stuff in there.

  • Can I drag my Mac Pro Mail folder to my MBP?

I have POP accounts on my Mac Pro (MP) which is my main computer. My MacBook Pro (MBP) I use when on the road, duh..
I want to be able to access my Apple Mail from my MP when on the road using my MBP (Mountain Lion).
I have an external mirror backup of my MP plugged into my MBP so I can access all files. But I'm trying to find a good
solution how to access my MP On My Mac Apple Mail folders.
If I drag my MP > Library > Mail folder to my MBP and replace my Mail folder on my MBP, when I launch my Mountain Lion (ML)
version of Apple Mail app on my MBP, that will now be accessing my MP Mail folder files, will my MBP Apple Mail be able
to access and read the replace Mail folder and thus I will be able to see all my MP stored On My Mac mail folders and mail?
Apple doesn't support this kind of POP stuff, but I'm exploring if I could damage my ML OS, or ML Mail application?
If the mail got lost, I still have it on my external backup and of course on my MP at my office.
I gather you can't launch Mail from an external drive while booted up off the MBP internal drive...
The other idea I'm contemplating is getting something like SplashTop which would allow my MBP to access my MP
    and just launch Mail remotely.
And.. I did try option booting my MBP off the bootable external drive, but because it's got Lion on it and not ML,
the fans on my MBP didn't operate, so that's bad and I shut down immediately.
That's the saga... I can't be the only person on a MBP trying to work with and access Mail folders/files from another
computer and hoping for some creative solutions.
    Thanks,
    Steven

I actually have it the other way thinking of my iDevices as windows into my mail and my MP as my main repository. I also set my devices to delete of server any mail I move from my devices inbox to minimize multiple deleting unwanted mail.
But the real issue was to be able to access all my stored mail on my MP when traveling. IMAP is a way to go, yes. But my concern, please educate me if I'm wrong, I have 6 email accounts. With POP I can drag any email from any account to the ame folder on my MP.
As I understand IMAP each account would have its own sets of folders. So where I have "Work" ot "ToDo" folder that hold all mail regardless of account, I couldn't have one folder "Work" and drag all mail to it because folders are created per account, per ISP (and I have multiple accounts from various ISPs).
So I'd have to have a Work folder for each IMAP account and have check each instead of one the way it's set using POP - ON MY MAC on my MP.
If I'm right abou this, then using a remote app like SplashTop 2 to use any device to login to my MP to read, reply, delete, store, then is a great solution since I'm actually working on my MP remotely. Only problem would be if I forgot to turn my MP on before traveling.
Am I on the right path?
