Mac Monitor screen isn't full size

I started playing Sims 3 on my MacBook Pro laptop and it was working fine. Then it froze on me one time but my laptop still worked. But when I shut down my laptop and turned it on again the actual monitor screen doesn't fit the full 13". It only goes about 11". First off, is this because of my Sims game that it did this? Because it never did it before. Secondly, is there a way I can make my screen fit the full 13" or do I need to take it into an Apple store?

Have you checked the Resolution setting in the Displays system preference? If a lower resolution than normal is selected, that's one possible cause for the area being smaller.

  • Full screen isn't full screen, unless I use "maximize" and later goes back

I used to be able to press full screen and it would be fine and when I closed ff, upon restarting it would restart in full screen. Something has gliched. When I press full screen in regular size, the full screen isn't full, only about 90-95% of screen. I can make it go full screen if I click
"maximize " and then full screen , but if at any time the screen isn't maximized, the same thing happens. If I close maximized and full screen
it opens with the reduced full screen. I can't move or stretch it out in anything except normal screen, and again, not I click full screen from there. I never had this problem.

    Hello
My computer doesn't have any VGA ports, so im using an 3.0 usb to VGA adapter. Whenever i plug in the adapter, the second monitor detects no signal, and also having trouble with screen resolution for the second monitor is it because of the adapter?

What is your USB 3.0 adapter ?

  • 'Optimised Mac Storage' except it's full-size

I upgraded to iCloud to reduce space on my MacBook. I chose 'optimize mac storage' after upgrading my iPhoto library. But now I have both a 60GB iPhoto library and 60GB Photos library. I know they share the same master files.
Can I safely delete the iPhoto library as I won't be using it anymore?
And will my Photos library shrink then? Or will I have to delete that too and rebuild an optimized library from scratch?
Oh and my smart albums aren't synching, only the default ones.

I deleted both libraries and created a new one set as the system library. It immediately began downloading at full speed, rebuilding the entire thing at 40GB. The description says it will keep originals if there's sufficient disk space. I'll create a bootcamp partition and restore my iTunes library later this week and see what happens there as Photos won't have 40GB then.

  • Can someone tell me how to make my screen full size with Safari ?  I am using a Mac osx 10.6.8.

Can someone tell me how to make my screen full size on my Mac OSX 10.6.8. using safari.  I know this is a simple question. I have always had it on full screen and recently had it worked on remotely and now I can't get the screen back to full size.  I appreciate any advise you can offer. Thank you

from the BetterTouchTool blog, older versions can be obtained using these links:

  • Size of imported powerpoint  presentation on screen not full size

imported power point presentation when seen on presentation modus on screen is not full size of the screen the slides are only on small size

PPT files always default to 720x540, and while checking that box will do the job, if you want to change the file so it's actually the correct size, you can always do that on the Document inspector (or apply a new theme to the entire file and choose 800x600 or 1024x768 as the size, it'll resize your file for you).

What setting have you chosen in the view menu? Fit to Screen or Window.
And, in Preferences what have you set for Display?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • 2014 Mac mini doesn't scale the entire HP Envy 32 monitor screen

I recently purchased a HP Envy 32 monitor for use with my 2014 Mac mini with the Iris display. I get 2560x1440 resolution at 60 Hz on both the DP (1.2) as well as the HDMI ports (using the auto-detected HP Envy 32 color profile) but the display doesn't scale the entire screen of the monitor. Is anyone else using this configuration successfully? If so, what have you done to make full use of the 32" monitor real-estate? I simply cannot find any options in Display preferences (Yosemite) to change underscan options or for that matter within the monitor itself. Is there a particular display profile or driver I can use to fix this issue?

I'm using a 4K compatible DP cable connected to the Thunderbolt port and getting to the max resolution of the monitor. So I don't think the issue lies there. I was able to use SwitchResX trial mode to discover an underscan option that allowed me to scale to the entire monitor screen. Assuming SwitchResX is manipulating core OSX functions, I'd assume there is some display related configuration within OSX that I should be able to tweak in order to scale the monitor screen natively in OSX without requiring any 3rd party software. Any thoughts for how to go about tweaking the display natively?
    Thanks

  • We can see thumbnails of horizontal photos but can't see full size photos after data transfer to new mac

    hello,
We just updated to a new mac from a 7 year old Mac because the logic board died. =The Apple reseller did a data transfer and now we cannot see full size photos on our new screen. We see the thumb nails but when we try to open a photo in the photo section of the library we get a black screen with an exclaimation mark. How do we fix this?
    thanks!

When you first boot your new Mac, it will boot into Setup Assistant. It will walk you through registration and then ask you if you want to migrate. Choose the disk you want to migrate from and choose all settings. No newer apps will be overwritten with older ones. No third party software will be lost. Although you should check compatiblity of apps with ML.

How useful screenshots might be in illustrating an issue pertaining to the screen display in comparison to a merely verbal description!
Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
    What are your Performance Preferences?

  • I just bought a recertified Mac Mini, and I wonder if anyone here knows if it's possible to hook up my Mac flat screen LCD monitor to it using what adapters? I currently have a DVI to ADC adapter connected to my G4 Powermac.

I just bought a recertified Mac Mini core duo - it's not the newer model-, and I wonder if anyone here knows if it's possible to hook up my Mac flat screen LCD monitor to it  and using what adapters? I currently have a DVI to ADC adapter connected to my G4 Powermac.
The company I bought it from is not Apple, and I may regret that. It was in my price range, though.
This is the first time I've used this community, and I've been a Mac owner since 2000. Thanks in advance!

when you say "Mac flat screen LCD", do you mean this:
