Mac monitor to Gatewy Laptop

I have an Apple Cinema HD Display and am trying to connect it to a Gateway laptop. The laptop does not have a DVI plug-in so am using a DVI to VGA adapter. With the cables connected the screen remains blank.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

What type of DVI to VGA adapter are you talking about?
The ACD does not have VGA input, and your laptop does not have DVI output, so what you need is a very expensive video transcoder (to convert analog VGA signal to digital DVI signal). A simple inline adaper won't do the job.

  • How do I connect my dell laptop from work to my 27 mac monitor?, how do I connect my dell laptop from work to my 27 mac monitor?

    I received a 27 LED apple/mac monitor --not the 2011/12 version though.
I want to use with my work computer--a dell laptop.  I can't seem to find the right adaptor to connect the two.
I need a dvi port converter that also connects to my vga on my laptop (so need the male end of hte vga since my laptop has the female end).
I only found 1 adaptor but it ends with a dvi on a vga.  I don't have hdmi on my laptop either--tried that adaptor as well when I couldn't see on the pic when I ordered that it was hdmi not usb).  Please help.  I have read so many blogs that say it can be done.

Would that kind of device work with my lowly MacBook running Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

  • How to dell laptop to a 23" mac monitor

How do I connect my dell inspirion to my 23" mac monitor. I have an adaptor (DVI to CRT I think) but my laptop doesn't have a place for the firewire cable. Any ideas how to make this work?

you are not going to connect the FireWire cable - you are only going to connect the monitor
if you wanted to use the firewire cable, you would need to add a FireWire host adapter to your machine

  • How to access hard drive on mac pro desktop from laptop?

I sold my Mac monitor and wireless keyboard. Now I want to sell my Mac Pro Desktop, but I need to wipe the hard drive first. How can I turn it on and access the drive from my Mac laptop?

It will show up as a drive, you can just access the drives on the desktop provided you turned on disk sharing. You can't access the "desktop".. If you had previously turned on screen sharing then you could use that via network connection.
If you can find the file that has preferences and then edit it then you can change to startup in Target disk mode. I do not know the file or how to edit it.

    Hall Palm Desert,
if your Mac monitor has Thunderbolt ports, and the PC monitor is on the end of the daisy chain, then you might be able to do it by connecting your PC monitor’s VGA cable to a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (e.g. Apple, NewerTech), connecting that cable’s Mini DisplayPort end to one of the Mac monitor’s Thunderbolt ports, and then connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the other port on the Mac monitor and your MacBook Pro.

I have a new Mac Mini and a 7 year old Mac monitor. The connectors dont match. What to do?

I suspect the monitor has an ADC connector

If so you need one of these:

Otherwise what connector is on the monitor?

  • External HP Pavilion 23xi monitor cuts off laptop audio

I want to use my HP Pavilion 23xi monitor as an external monitor for my laptop (Sony Vaio, Windows 7).  The laptop only has an HDMI connection, so I used an HDMI cable to connect it.  The HP monitor works fine, but when it is connected, it cuts off all audio output on the laptop.  There is no sound from the internal speaker on the laptop, or from the headphone connection.
If the HDMI connection automatically takes over the audio output, surely there should be at least a headphone socket on the PC?  I can't change the connection type, as the laptop only has HDMI for an external monitor.  Is there any configuration change that will fix this?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
As you mentioned, the HDMI sound may take over sound, disable HDMI sound may help. Pleae try:
    Right click the speaker icon
    Select Playback devices
Right click HDMI sound and disable it

  • How do I make my hp J4580 printer print wirelessly from my mac 10.7.5 laptop

    Hi,
I would like to make my HP J4580 all in one printer wirless.  I have a mac 10.7.5 laptop.  I have read the other posts and it appears to be possible but I can't figure out how to do it.  One of the posts said you need an Ethernet cable, however, there is no place on the back of the J4580 printer to hook up an Ethernet cable.  I tried hooking up the USB cable that came with my printer to my new comcast modem that has wireless, however, that did not work.  I do have sharing on.
    1.  Is it possible?
    2.  If so, how exactly is it done?  Since I'm not that computer savvy, I do need step by step directions.
I copied this from one of your other posts.  The back of my computer is exactly the same.
    Thank you,
    HR

    Hi hrsre,
I understand you're wondering if you can make your Officejet J4580 printer work wirelessly or wired via Ethernet. I will certainly do my best to answer this for you.
The printer you have does not have any wireless capabilities. If an HP printer does not come with wireless capabilities there is no way to make it such. What I would recommend at this point if you're adamant that you have a wireless printer is to call HP Tech Support for your area and inquire about the out of warranty trade in and trade up program to see what sort of wireless printer they can get to you.
Hope this helps, have a great day!!

  • Vga to Mac monitor

Hi, I would like to connect my ibook g4, to an old mac monitor I have, but what adapter do I need? Can anyone tell me one on ebay? Thanks

    luisom,
Here is the specifications page for the iBook G4 line:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/ibook/iBook_G4.html
It gives the following information for VGA, S-video and composite video output:
"Video mirroring supports VGA video out to an external display or projector (requires included Apple VGA Video Adapter) and S-video and composite video out to a TV or VCR (requires optional Apple Video Adapter, sold separately)."
The adapter came with your computer but you may not have it anymore. If you have that adapter, you may still need another connector to connect to the old monitor.
This page states that your computer is VGA compatible:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86183
Here is the Apple infobase page for adapters:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=33001
Google for vendors and you are in business.
(If you have the old HD45 monitor connector for the 6100/7100/8100 series computers, you will need to adapt that connection as well. Information found here.)
    Good luck shopping.

  • External monitor hooked to laptop keeps going "dark"

The screen on my laptop cracked and so I have hooked it up to an external monitor HP 2009m via VGA.  Laptop is HP Pavillion dv6 with Win7 home premium with all current updates.  After I have been working for about 30 minutes, the monitor keeps going off and I have to hit the power button which usually brings it back, but sometimes I also have to use the source button to cycle back to an active monitor.  The "power lockout" shows up occasionally and sometimes it just refuses to stay on for more than 30 seconds.  I have used the factory reset, have held the power button for 15-30 seconds and unplugged it but it still keeps happening.  I have disabled OSD and sleep and everything else I can think of.  Starting to suspect it is something coming from the laptop, have never seen anything like this and scoured forums for simliar problems/solutions (hence the holding power and factor reset items I have already tried).  I am starting to suspect it might be Netflix, although this seems odd, but it definitely happens more often if I am listening to Netflix in the background.
Anyway, I will reboot and it will be ok for awhile.  Actually, until I start watching netflix again.  Any other ideas?  Driving me insane.  Can I just get the monitor on my laptop fixed replaced?  Thanks in advance for any ideas.

you can check in power option and monitor options too
    >> start menu >> control panel >> Power options
you will see the list on the left column and you will find monitor options

I'm just trying to revive my old PowerPC G4/ dual 867MHz 512MB.  Unfortunately I am unable to install from disc since my optical drive, although still working, is somehow not able to read the leopard installer.  I wanted to try the remote install option but have limited resources and don't have a network where I can have both the Mac desktop and windows laptop communicate.  I read somewhere that I can use a crossover cable to connect the two directly.  I'm still trying to see if I can get an external DVD-ROM as another option.  Any suggestions?

Your Mac doesn't need a crossover cable, it auto-switches...

But I have no idea how that will help you install from a Windows computer.
If you get an external DVD drive it needs to be Firewire & Mac bootable.
