Mac Monitor using windows tower?

Is there a cable that I can hook my windows computer to my Mac so that I can use both computers on my mac screen? I have the newest version of leopard and Bought my mac about two months ago 20 inch with 2 gig of ram.

Share Mac monitor with PC tower?

A friend is offering to give us a PC computer (used, but still good), and I was wondering if I could set up the PC tower alongside my Power Mac G5 tower and somehow share the mac monitor that I already have. Any ideas? Not savvy in this area, so not sure if it's possible, but I'm hoping someone can help steer me in the right direction.

How can i open a document from mac when i am using windows without transferring it?

depend on the document program more then anything else really
when ever I open a doc with word it make a history for undo and redo action file in the same dir
with bootcamp you only have read not write access to the osx partition so it would fail to be able to create that file
but if you can get word or whatever program you use to open the file not to place a temp file in the same dir
or use a program which did not make any type of temp file or used a program where the temp file would be located elsewhere where you decide it would work file

How can I remotly shutdown a mac PC using windows

At my University, there is an iMAC computer LAB. In another LAB, there is a windwos server PC, and I want to remotly shutdown MAC PCs using a command from the windows server, while the windows server and the MAC PCs are connected to the same network.
Any help regarding this issue?

New to Mac: my monitor using Windows was fine; I'm having problems now

I'm trying to figure out if the basic problem is that I need a monitor designed for a Mac vs PC: I have a new Westinghouse monitor, 1024x768x60, that worked fine w/PC. I've flailed around with both the Mac Display & the physical monitor display settings.
Basically the issue that I didn't experience w/PC is that the fonts are really small (eg, Mail) -- not WYSIWYG, even tho the Mac stuff is large (eg: To, Cc, menus, etc.). Also, the display (again, not the Mac stuff) is blurry (eg, what I'm typing here).
Since the whole point of the Mac Mini is that I wouldn't needlessly replicate my fairly new monitor & keyboard & mouse, I'm trying to understand how to maximize my existing hardware (I've already given up & am replacing my fairly new keyboard & mouse).
Thanks for any help. Must add, the mac has eliminated my existing PC problems.

I've also struggled with getting my monitor (Viewsonic VX2245wm 1600x1050) to work seemlessly with my Mini. The Mini wouldn't always detect the monitor and I would get a non-native resolution that would look stretched or fuzzy when I restarted or woke-up the Mini. That was if I didn't get a blank screen with a "no signal" message.
I'm not sure if this will solve your problem, but here are the steps I followed most recently to get the Mini to recognize the monitor and provide the native resolution required (caveat - I'm not an expert, but this is what I've pieced together through reading other posts and following advice given to me in regard to questions I've posted. There are a many more knowledgable people that might chime-in so take my recommendations/explanations with a grain of salt. And as far as I can tell, you won't break anything following these steps):
1. Use Finder to search for a couple plist files with the term windowserver in the title (use windowserver as a search term). One will have alphnumeric characters. Here are examples from my Mini:

com.apple.windowserver.plist
Apparently, these files store display related preferences and can cause erratic display behavior. Move these files to the trash and empty the trash. They'll be recreated when you restart your Mini. (search other posts for this and you'll find more details....it's a commonly recommended step for fixing display behavior)
2. Shut down the Mini and reset the PMU. Search the support pages and discussion board for the exact steps.
3. Reset the PRAM when restarting (after following the steps to reset the PMU). You'll find the exact steps in the Apple support section. Just search on PRAM.
4. Use finder to search for your windowserver plist files to confirm that new ones were in fact created according to the date/time stamp.
When I restarted my Mini after following these steps the Mini was recognizing the display as indicated by the presence of the monitor type at the top of the Displays window in System Preferences. I had to try these steps a couple times to get the Mini to recognize the display (maybe I screwed up somewhere the first time), but since then it's been working flawlessly which is nice because the monitor behavior was driving me nuts.
Again, I'm not an expert and you may get different recommendations or better explanations regarding exactly how these steps reset the display preferences, but I don't think the above mentioned steps will cause any problems outside of possibly resetting the time to some default.
One other option I'm exploring is an application called SwitchResX which apparently allows you to manually control the display settings and add resolutions not provided by the Mini. Haven't had to resort to that since going through the steps above.
Good luck and please share your results if you follow the steps above as I'm trying to develop a better understanding of what else I might try should the problem surface again.

If your TV takes DVI input, and you have the mini-DVI to DVI cable for your MacBook, there is no reason it shouldn't work.

Plugged Ipod into Mac after using Windows--Now Corrupted

My friend recently plugged my ipod into his mac and my pc computer wont recognize it anymore. The screen is different when it says "do not disconnect" like it would be if you use a mac with it. I got it to recognize it once, restored it and loaded up my music again which worked until I plugged it in to my computer the next time and the mac do no disconnect came up and now some songs wont play and it will cycle through playlists and skip some of the songs. Please help...i want to kill my friend who plugged it into his mac.

Using your ipod as a disk to move music is really only good if you have the original hard drive to use. You must copy the files onto your ipod in a different manner then that of iTunes. Example You would open my computer drag the files 'including music' to your ipod. You would then plug your ipod to your mac, it will mount a little ipod icon on your desktop, you would then drag the files off of your ipod either into the correct music folder or (if you have it setup in itunes to copy to itunes music folder) right to itunes.
As for formated correctly Macs are more then capable of reading and writing to an ipod formated on Windows. However you will have a much smoother experience if you formate it to work with your mac.

I had a windows xp computer that crashed and lost everything on hard drive. I was using an Ipod (serial # YM619Q49TJT) with the windows xp computer that is now dead, but my ipod still has all of audio music saved on it. I just purchased a Macbook laptop (Leopard 10.5.5 operating system). Is it possible to transfer audio files from my ipod to the new mac without losing all my files on my ipod. I found many articles that show you how to use ipod as a hard drive to transfer audio files from one hard drive to another, but the original computer is existing and in my case I don't have the original computer. I am also not sure if there will be an issue with my ipod first being formatted with a windows xp operating system and now moving the files to a Leopard Operating system?

My friend plugged it into his Mac, Ive been using it on my PC. It says its corrupted now when I plug it into the PC. I restore it and it says its restored but then the "do not disconnect" mac screen comes up (looks different than the do not disconnect pc screen), and when I try to restore it again, it wont recognize it. Your iPod is a 3rd Generation (clickwheel) or (touch wheel),
is it a dock connector?
You need to do the Reset:-
For clickwheel - Press select+menu keys
For touch wheel - Press Play/Pause+Meny buttons
until you see the apple logo
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer

Its done via iTunes with your iPad connected to it. Select the iPad on its left-hand side, and then select the Photos tab on the right and decide what you want to sync. There are instructions/help on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
You need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go, as not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from the iPad. So if you want to sync multiple folders to the iPad they will need to be off the same parent folder - each folder will then get its own album on the iPad

I bought a new Macbook due to Vista fears. I started with a trial version of Office 2004. That has expired. I have heard there is software that enables Mac to use Windows simultaneously. You need to install Windows on your mac either through Parallels (which creates a virtualized environment within OS X) or use Boot Camp to install Windows directly on your Macbook, as you would any other non-Apple computer.

ACS Server MAC Authentication with Windows Database

Has anyone setup an ACS Server 3.2 for MAC authentication using Windows as the authentication. The documentation I found shows how to set it up using the CiscoSecure database. Any help would be appreciated.

Logging in on mac domain with windows 7

Goal- to be able to login on a mac domain using windows 7
Present network setup- Mac server (Leopard 10.5.8) is the PDC, user directory (open directory) and it has kerberos authentication
I currently have windows xp and vista clients working properly on my domain
(in other words, my domain/directory users can login just fine on xp and vista)
windows 7 is my only sore thumb right now because of the rather strange error below whenever i try to login as a domain user
"the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed"

Got the "apple firewire ntsc" choice to show up even if grayed out and "missing" under "audio/visual" menus by recreating choices in Easy Setup under "final cut pro" MENU thank GOODNESS because I was reading horror stories on here about this under another thread with someone trashing preferences, reinstalling and the works and still not getting it to show up...on my search now for an analog/digital converter up at b&h...find it odd that the s video connector wouldn't show the crt monitor when I put both displays through the 3870...I switched it back to see if it worked again when only the one dell monitor display was there and there it is again mirroring the screen display on my desktop...just can't be seen as an "external monitor" in fcp...couldn't find anything specific in the shane ross threads to this. I'm sad the program doesn't just see the s video connection though the 3870 though my computer does fine and will query up at b&h in regard to what might be affordable as far as a digital/analog converter. It's also weird in itself that when I put the two dell monitors on the one card my computer no longer could see the s video crt connection...makes no sense. Will report in later as to what I discover up at b&h as I'm sure there's a world of people out there using this sony crt monitor still even into the upgrades with computers and software so I imagine therein lies the solution. Well as you can tell this isn't very active especially when your asking a question in a cross platform trouble shooting forum.
You don't say what computer you have so no one can even guess, you should put the model/year of the computer your on and the Mac OS version your using into your profile so we can help you better. (Example, 2010 MacPro, OS10.6 and Windows 7.)
Try here and pick your computer to get more help. Click on the Communities link and then the Discussions link and you should find a post that has already asked your question or you can search and you should find a bunch also.
From what I understand your Mac needs to support dual monitors and you need to have 2 video ports available and just get an adapter if needed for the connection between the computer and the monitor.
