Mac no Better then a PC!

I bought the best Mac thinking I was getting the best, to end the frustration of problems. I once thought Macs had the reputation of running smoother than a Pc. I was mistaken. I have had probably more problems that are harder to fix with my mac. Gone are the days where a simple reInstall the program would fix my problems.
Anybody want to buy my Mac??

Here's my take on the Mac versus PC issues:
1) The Mac OS is FAR FAR FAR superior to Windows XP. I mean this is a hands down no contest. Does that mean OS X is faultless, no it has it's glitches and other little problems but the OS is simply put, amazing!
2) The Mac HW USED to be better than most PCs and I think when considering the sheer numbers it is generally still better. I have seen a number of recent, new Dell "servers" that basically fell apart. I think it boils down to the fact that in todays world buying a new computer whether it is a Mac or a PC is a crap shoot. You will sometimes get a lemon.
3) Apple Support. This is where Apple is really doing themselves a HUGE dis-service. I believe the support could be much much better. I think if Apple simply replaced Mac Book Pros until people were happy with them (IE fixing the problems) they would win over a flock of customers that they are turning away. Expensive proposition, yes but in the long run it would probably pay off. Alternatively they could offer each of the "problem" Mac Book Pro customers a chance to trade in their MBP for $1500 off on the revamped MBP. Stuff like that.
But the flip side is that sometimes Dell support is not much better. We've had numerious issues with Dells and support. We have a Dell server that basically Dell swears we swapped the processor in it. We swear we didn't. They won't service it because of voided warranty. The problem is they recorded the system build incorrectly so now when the server updates it profile it shows a different processor than the unit was shipped with. End of story... No support. They sent us a nice big check refunding our support contract.
As I've said in numerous places before the MBP (when everything works and on mine it does) is the answer to a dream. The ability to have a killer OS (OS X) and when I need to run Windows in a nice little window.
My MacMini has been running now for 33 days straight. That is with Parallels running Windows XP in a window. I've rarely had a PC make it past 28 running Windows XP.
So I think the general issue is there are problems all around with any line of computers. You just have to work your way through them.

I want to buy some instructional DVD's that the site states can be downloaded to PC's or a  Mac, but not iPad's as it uses flash drive.  My question is if I download it to my Mac, can I then transfer it to ipad?  Thanks all

Flash drive? Can you mean that it's flash video?
If it's flash video then you'd need to look in the app store and see if there is a third party flash player or a video converter for your mac that can convert those flash files to the mp4 or m4v that the ipad prefers...and there could be the further complication that the files may/may not have DRM that prohibit their alteration.
I think your best bet would be to communicate with them and see what advice they give on file formats. You can't be the only one wanting to view the videos on an iPad.

Hello congratulations for the work you have been developing. The apple support has helped me greatly improve my Mac and better understand some applications. Recently my iPhoto has given me problems and I do not realize what is happening. When I double click a photo it does not appear ... or rather the background is black and only the zoom window appears. How to solve this? I've done a restoration of the library, but the problem remains. Thanks and good job.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • I have a G5 mac using ver 10.4.11 and a newer mac using ver 10.8.4 these are networked. using the new mac i looked up my my photo on the old mac. It then said you need to upgrade your library which it did. Now the old mac can not open the photos

I have a G5 mac using ver 10.4.11 and a newer mac using ver 10.8.4 these are networked. using the new mac i looked up my my photo on the old mac. It then said you need to upgrade your library which it did. Now the old mac can not open the photos and say that I need to upgrade my I photo to a newer version. The old mac has no more support from apple in software update so I am not sure where I should go from here. can I use new soft ware with the old mac

The other part of the upgrade message was a warning that once you upgraded you would no longer be able to open the library with the old version which is exaclty what you did and what happened when you choose to continue
The iphoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library. Cancel or upgrade.
So now your choices are to not use iPhoto with the previous version using it onky with the newer version, restore your backup from before you did this upgrade or purchase iPhoto Library Manager and use it to rebuild the library using the older version of iPhoto (instructions are on their web site) thereby downgrading it (without projects)

I plan to purchase a Mac mini and then a new iPad.  Can I use the iPad as a keyboard and screen for the Mac mini, using either the USB connector or Wi-Fi?

I'm sorry, I should have said thru Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi.  I want to use the mini as a base station and the iPad like a laptop that I can sync when I'm home and carry with me when I travel.  Is is possible to hook these 2 up - iPad/mini, through Bluetooth?  I understand I need to use a regular monitor/keyboard/mouse on the initial install.

If your phone (plus syncing) is the only place you keep your pictures you are asking for trouble, theft or not. Back up onto an external hard disk which is only mounted when you need it, then nothing external can erase them. Then make use of Apple's facilities for protecting your phone:

    hi

    Y director is good....
What r the difference b/w director and flash?
How can I satisfy them technically?
I know that flash good software but I wana know that point
which make the director better then flash.
    What are these points?

    bad sign.
Hmm.. Well, maybe it's time to explain what I meant by 'I'm
    working on it'.
I sure am not adobe, or mm, but I'd bet that most of the
    regular list
members care about Director more than anyone at any company.
A couple years back, shortly after mus got discontinued to be
    more precise,
and by not finding any descent networking Xtra, I started
    building one. The
initial goal was to build a socket Xtra that could transfer
    binary strings.
But soon as I got the hang of it, I started adding all the
    stuff of my
personal Director wish list that came to mind. And the Xtra
    evolved beyond
and initial expectation - and timeline for that matter.
The 'official' announcement talked about unicode. But that
    was just the
    first object revealed.
The Xtra includes objects (strings, lists, date, image...)
    that are both
faster and more flexible than their Director's equivalents,
    well as new
objects that aim to include all that windows/c++ has to offer
    for their
    field (socket, services, file/shell...).
It has been a long and mostly lonely journey...
    You can visit
    http://xtrema.rtr.gr/cDown/
    to get an idea.
Now that the core is finished, all experimental objects are
    updated and
added to the pack. The idea is, soon as certain base objects
    are completed,
to produce some freeware apps for advanced tasks (like
    managing services),
in an attempt to give Director back it's good name. I guess
    that at the
time, I'll make a call to any director developer that wishes
    to participate
in such a project to lend a hand (gui / suggestions etc).
Don't forget: If it can be done with c++, it can be done must
    faster, and
with far less debugging, in Director. Long as you can call
    c++ routines that
will give you access to the system functions that is (aka
    Xtras).
As a pro app builder, I find Director to have just one
    drawback. No
multithreading support for lingo scripts. Any number of
    threads can work on
the background (like e.g. getNetText), but there will be
    bottlenecking when
it comes to callbacks. So, building a director based
    enterprise server is
out of the question. But building a game or mid-business
    server capable of
    hosting thousands of clients isn't.
    Regards,
    Harris.

  • Please help; What makes the 2nd Gen iPod Touch better then the 1st Gen?

I am thinking about buying an 8gb iPod Touch, should i save some dough and buy the 1st gen iPod Touch or pay a bit more and buy the 2nd gen?
Also, what makes the 2nd gen iPod Touch better then the 1st gen, what has been improved, changed, etc...?
    Thanks in advance.

I had the 1st gen touch since it first came out and just got the 2nd gen touch last month. I'll list a few things I like about the 2nd gen touch.
    1. internal speaker. makes a huge difference in my opinion.
    2. new design. alot nicer to hold in your hand than the 1st gen.
    3. seems faster overall than the 1st gen touch.
4.display no longer has blue tint. now has more of a yellow tint. makes pics and movies look a little better.
If you can afford the 2nd gen touch I would highly recommend it.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's because the Boot Camp volume was created, but your Mac hasn't been set up to start automatically from the Windows disc. Insert the Windows DVD and press C key while your Mac is starting to start Windows installation.
If you want to make sure that everything is correct, open Boot Camp Assistant and choose the option to remove Windows 7. Then, open that application again, select the option to install Windows 7 and you will be able to install Windows as usual

How is the 5th Gen iPod better then the 4th Gen iPod, other then the obvious video ability? Is it really that much better while playing songs? Is it built well? How do you like it?

I do not own a 4G iPod but I can ad that I don't think there is anything better about the audio quality in the 5G
iPod as compared to the 1G iPod. What you get are new features and of course capacity and cosmetic appearance. I am an owner of a 1G iPod that is still going strong, no issues with it ever! I recently purchased the 5G and already have questions regarding shut down and pausing and battery life!

What Makes the MacBook Pro better then MacBook Air?
I am considering getting a laptop of one of the 2.
I think Macbook pro is what i want as just a secondary computer, need a laptop that performs same as my desktop IMac
What are really the differences between the Pro and Air?
    What Pro is best?
Anyone have problems? and am i best with paying for a brand new computer vs refurb?
    thanks

It really depends what you use it for.
I'm in my senior years in high school and I just bought my macbook pro (15 in - $1799 w/out tax). I'm willing to spend the extra money as I am planning to use it to continue my education in post secondary school. I think that the MBP is great for work, designing and for professionals. The MBA is great for portability and chicness. The graphics on the MBP is beyond my expectations and it's great. Its great for many things.
It all comes to this. Are you willing to spend the extra money on a MBP. What will you be using your computer for? WIll you be using it for a very long time? Are you going to be careful with it? I heard that the MBA is flimsy and can easily break.
I also recommend you ask a person at the Genius Bar at your local Apple store and they will be glad to assist you. I researched for a solid half of a year before i made a decision and bought my macbook pro.
    Hope this helps.
