Mac nor iPhone can 'see' my Airport Express, but Wifi/internet is working

Totally frustrating.  I'm running Yosemite and iOS 8.0.2.  Airport Utility on my Mac (rMBP & 13" MBA) never finds the airport express.  My iOS app finds it, then says that it's not part of the network anymore.  Crazy because my internet/WiFi go directly through it and there are no interruptions.  Any ideas?  This is seriously dumb.
No, I haven't tried resetting my Airport Express since upgrading to iOS8 or Yosemite as every time I do it takes forever to start working again -> won't acquire an IP address for hours...
TIA

Tried that, no luck.  Utility is just searching.  I can 'see' the router & attached disk fine in the finder though + internet is working just fine.  Sometimes, it does have issues connecting to it in the finder window.
This is what I see in the utility.  At this snapshot, it's been sitting there for 5mins:
Ideas?

iPhone 5s connect to airport express but when I play in iTunes no option to pick airport ?

If anyone would like to know how to fix this, I discovered the answer.
I have no idea what IPv6 is and I care not, but apparently now, all of a sudden, Apple makes iTunes talk to Airport Express units using IPv6. However, it didnt bother to make the Airport Express units expect this first, so iTunes can see the Airport Express, but it cant talk to it.
Anyway, I found that you have to manually go into your Mac settings (scary stuff if you are a non technical person like me) and turn off IPv6.
To do this, go to "Finder > Go > Utilities > Terminal"
    type
    networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi  (hit enter)
    Then type
    networksetup -setv6off Ethernet (hit enter)
and magically your iTunes will talk to your Airport Express units again.
I presume at some point we will have to undo this as technology moves on and everything uses IPv6, so when that happens go into Terminal again and type
    networksetup -setv6automatic Wi-Fi  (hit enter)
    Then type
    networksetup -setv6automatic (hit enter)
    Thanks Apple for that.

  • Airport Utility: I can see Extreme and Express but no Apple TV

    Hi,
When I launch Apple Utility, I can see my Extreme and (2) Express's, but Apple TV is no where to be found.
Is there any way for the Apple Utility to work with the Apple TV?
    Thanks!

When I launch Apple Utility, I can see my Extreme and (2) Express's, but Apple TV is no where to be found.
Sorry, but that is normal as the AirPort Utility does not administer the Apple TV ... only AirPorts or Time Capsules.

  • Can see my airport express

I moved my computer from upstairs to downstairs almost a year ago and have not connect with my Airport Express since. I have Verizon FIOS wireless network that works fine between the 2 floors. I tried to locate the Airport closer to the computer but only blinks amber. Per airport utility checked for updated software. How do I get reconnected with my airport? Need house full of music by New Years...

If your AirPort Express device is blinking amber, then there is a problem unrelated to where your computer is located.
I presume that you have some sort of router in addition to the AirPort Express. If you can connect to the AirPort Express with a computer using AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup and then click on Status: under the Summary tab to look for a clue as to the problem.
If all else fails, try resetting the AirPort Express device [again].

  • AP Utility 5.4.1 doesn't see my AirPort Express but iTunes 8.0.2.20 does

I have 2 AEs connected on a wired lan on Win XP. The new version of the AirPort Utility (5.4.1) can't find them but iTunes 8.0.2.20 does see them. I can also ping them using a net utility to find the IP addresses.
Is this a known problem? To which previous version of the AirPort Utility should I revert and where do I find it?

The Airport Express is quite old, i've had it for many years, not sure how long, probably first or second generation. It says it's model A1084, 2005.
This would be an 802.11g AirPort Express base station. There is only one generation of this version.
When i click on the icon in the Airport Utility, it says this version of Airport Utility (v.3.6.1) doesn't support this base station.
I'm not aware that Apple produced a v3.6.1. Did you mean v5.6.1 instead? If so this version is meant to administer these older 802.11g AirPorts on Macs running OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard. More precisely for versions 10.5.7 thru 10.6.8 ... so your MacBook should be able to run this version of the AirPort Utility.
I played music through the external speakers as recently as a couple of weeks ago, both in iTunes and on You Tube.
If you are streaming from YouTube, then you must be using a third-party solution like Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil. Is this correct?
The only thing that has happened recently, though i don't know why it would make any difference, is that a few days ago for the first time, i did a backup of my hard drive to the Time Capsule, using Time Machine.
You're right. That should have not made any difference as far as streaming goes.

  • Airport Utility on XP SP3 can't discover Airport Express  BUT IP works

Airport Utility will not "discover" the airport express device, BUT it can connect to it when I type in the IP address in the "configure other" field.
I suspect this is also why I cannot get the remote speakers button on my Itunes 10.1.1.4.
Win 7 computer on the same network has no problem with the airport utility discovering the airport express device so I know problem is specific to the XP machine
Running 5.5.2 version of Airport Utility and latest firmware on the Airport Express. XP has SP3 installed. i have Windows firewall turned off.
I want to fix this so I can play itunes 10 though the remote speakers. It all used to work fine with Itunes 9.

For Windows devices, software firewalls tend to be the culprit when attempting to access the AirPort or Time Capsule with the AirPort Utility ... as a number of ports must be open in order for the utility to communicate with the base station. Not sure why it appears to be more troublesome on Windows.
Another issue I found is, whether or not, an XP device is either not running or missing the Zero Wireless Configuration (ZWC) service. A number of hardware vendors configure XP to include their own wireless configuration utility which tend to disable ZWC.
If you don’t see the Wireless Network tab when you go into the Network Properties Page, then the most likely reason is that the ZWC service did not start. To initialize it, open Administrative Tools in the Control Panel and select Services. Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration, Right-click on it, and select Start. The service is now enabled, and the Wireless Network tab will be visible in Network Properties.

  • Can connect to Airport Express but not to the internet

    Please help
My Airport Express shows the solid green light. I am also able to connect to it and use AirTunes on my HiFi.
However I cant connect to the internet. If I plug in my laptop to the router directly the internet works fine. So it is not a router problem.
    Any idea?

After following your instruction, I am not able to connect to the airport express anymore. I can still see the network but it is somehow unable to read the IP address.
When I try to get to the Airport utility it shows the base station but do not let me get into the configuration and shows an error message -4.
The only option I have then is to reset the AE

  • I did a hard reset on the airport express, but it did not work

I successfully reset the airport express once, got it set up, plugged in the new speakers, they worked for about 1 minute, then the blinking yellow error code started on the airport express.  Since then I have tried to do a hard reset numerous times and stil get the blinking yellow light.  Please help!

Cannot see content of website other than homepage in Safari.  Can see tabs to navigate to other pages but no content. Works in Windows Explorer so it may not be website.

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.

  • My iMac cant see my airport express?

Hi, I have just moved into my new place and tried to setup my iMac and apple TV. My appleTV can see my airport express but my iMac cant.  My iMac can see other wifi networks but the utility cant see it.  I have reset my airport express and I have the internet plugged directly into it.  Can anyone help?

    Hi
When you say you reset the Express... which method did you use?
I would try a factory default reset, if you haven't already. If that doesn't work, then you could have an issue with your iMac
    Good Luck

  • ITunes (and Airfoil) can see Airport Express but can't connect in Windows XP (error -15000) - firewall problems?

I am using Windows XP Professional 2002 w/ SP3 on a Dell Latitude E4300 laptop wirelessly connecting to my Airport Express 802.11n (firmware 7.5.2).
I can see my Airport Express in iTunes 10.4.1 and can select it via the Airplay button. iTunes even detects whether or not a speaker is connected to the Airport Express. But when iTunes tries to connect, it comes back after a while saying "An error occurred while connecting to the Airplay device xxx. An unknown error occurred (error -15000)."
A similar problem happens with Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba that I use to stream music from other apps such as VideoLAN to Airport Express on the same laptop. I can see that my Airport Express is available but when Airfoil tries to connect, it comes back saying "It appears that a firewall on this computer is preventing Airfoil from connecting to xxx Airport Express. Please check your firewall settings and try again."
I've set both Airplay and iTunes as exception programs in my Windows Firewall setting, and even added TCP ports 5000 to 5005 and UDP ports 6000 to 6005 to the exceptions as recommended by Airfoil. I've also disabled Symantec Endpoint Protection that Ihave installed. The only thing I can't disable is McAfee Endpoint Encryption, since I also use the laptop at work and I don't have permission to disableMcAfee.  I use this laptop to connect wirelessly with other devices such as HP wireless printers, NAS drives and other laptops on my home network and have never had any issues, so i think that this issue is specific to the Airplay software being blocked by some firewall (I am assuming Airfoil also uses Airplay).
I've tried this on different wireless networks and I have the same issue with Windows XP on my Dell Latitude E4300. I've also set up the network with no security, but the problem doesn't go away.
I also tried downgrading iTunes to 10.3.1 but won't work. I think it's an Airplay issue, not a specific iTunes issue, since I'm facing the problem with Airfoil as well.
How do I trace what is going on that is preventing iTunes and Airfoil from streaming to the AirportExpress within Windows XP?
I also have another Dell Inspiron laptop on the same network running on Windows Vista, and have no problems streaming music from iTunes or Airfoil to the Airport Express on the same network, even when the network is WPA-2 Personal (TKIP+AES) protected (I've seen other postings where WPA has been an issue, WEP has not, but in my case, this is not an issue). Ditto with my iPad2.
    Thanks for your help!

I have the same problem with Windows 7 64bit. ITune can see AE and stream Music well. Airfoil, TuneBlade (airplay soft) can also see AE but can't connect and stream music. I ' ve already tried to setup firewall Exception list, even turning off firewall off both windows and antivirus but still got the same problem with the message 'Airfoil was unable to connect to the remote speaker " ... 's Airport Express". Please check the firewall on the computer where " ...'s Airport Express" is running and try again'. Any help would be appreciated !.

  • IMac (on Ethernet) Can No Longer Stream to Airport Express (on WiFi)

After years of reliable service, all of a sudden I cannot stream music from iTunes on my iMac, via my Airport Express, to my stereo system.
First, a bit about my configuration:
       * iMac connected via Ethernet to a wireless router (D-Link DIR-655).
       * iMac Airport (WiFi) is turned off.
       * D-Link sets up a wireless network, and Airport Express joins the network.
       * Airport Express does not set up its own network, it's simply a client of the existing D-Link wireless network.
       * iTunes "sees" the Airport Express, and can stream audio via AirPlay.
       * iPad also joins the wireless network, and also can stream to the Airport Express via AirPlay.
       * iMac running 10.6.8, with all software updates applied.
       * Airport Express running latest firmware (7.6.1).
Well, that was a few days ago, when "it just worked". But for some unknown reason iTunes could no longer "see" the Airport Express.
So I took my Airport Express to the Apple Store and they did a Factory Reset, but it did not solve the problem. I figured my rather old Airport Express was failing, so today I bought a new one. The symptoms have changed a bit, but even after spending an hour on the phone with AppleCare, it doesn't work properly.
Now, the only way the iMac can stream to the Airport Express is if the iMac also joins the wireless network. In fact, now with Airport turned OFF on the iMac, the Airport Utility cannot see the Airport Express. But here's another weird thing: when I use the IP address of the Airport Express, the Airport Utility CAN connect with and manage the Airport Express, even with Airport turned OFF on the iMac!
I should also mention, the iPad has no issues whatsoever connecting to the D-Link's wireless network and streaming music to the Airport Express.
This all seems like something might have changed on the D-Link wireless router. But for the life of me, I cannot figure out what setting(s) on the router might allow the iMac - over Ethernet - to stream audio to the Airport Express.
Another thing. When I have Airport turned on on the iMac, it can "see" and stream to the Airport Express, but the music has very frequent drop-outs. Could this be related to the fact that the iMac has two IP addresses (one on Ethernet, one on WiFi)?
My goal is to get things "back to normal", where I can turn off Airport on the iMac, and all LAN and WAN traffic from the iMac goes over Ethernet. I have a few questions (for now :-)
       * Since my iMac has two connections to my LAN using two IP addresses (Ethernet & WiFi), is that likely to cause any issues?
       * When two computers join the same wireless LAN, can they effectively talk directly to one another, or does the wireless router need to be involved every time one computer sends a TCP or UDP packet to the other?
       * Do routers (or the DIR-655 in particular) tend to have any firewalls or policies that control connections on the LAN between Ethernet and WiFi clients?
       * Since AirPlay uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353, would the DIR-655 need any special configuration to "open these ports" so an Ethernet client can connect with a WiFi client?
So, any help would be most appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Jim

I am having a very similar issue.  I use my Airport Express (AX) to stream music from the computers on my network to my stereo via Airplay.  I have AX set up to wirelessly join my existing wireless network, which uses a D-Link DIR-655 router hooked to a Time Warner cable modem.  I can succesfully connect all of my wireless devices via Airplay, through iTunes to my AX, including two laptops and an iPhone.  However, my primary desktop PC, which does not have a wireless card is linked directly via ethernet cable to my D-Link router, and it is not able to see my AX.  Similar to your case, I can see the Airport Express from my PC through my Airport Utility by directly typing in the IP address.  Note that the  AX set-up option to allow Ethernet clients is checked.  I also noticed that my laptops will stop detecting AX if I directly connect them to my D-Link router via Ethernet and turn off their wireless cards.  They will resume detecting AX when I turn their wireless connections back on.  I have tried every conceivable setting of my D-Link router to no avail.

  • Macbook can't recognize Airport Express!

    Hi guys,
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 15" Early 2013 running Mavericks 10.9.1. My router is the Apple Airport Express A1088 and what is happening is: I did the setup of the Airport Express last year and everything was working fine. I had to download the Airport Utility 5.6 and then I configured the Airport Express. Alright. But today, my wifi connection was not showing in my Macbook Pro, but it was working fine in my iPhone 5. I tried to turn the Airport Express off, and the same for my Macbook Airport, but it doesn't work. So I decided to do a hard reset and also a reset to factory settings. What is happening is my Macbook Pro showed only one time after doing the reset and I did all the steps of the setup using the Airport Utility 5.6. But when the airport express restarted, it was working only with my iPhone 5, not with my Macbook. So I tried to reset again to factory settings and now I can't do the setup because the Airport Express doesn't show up in my Macbook as a new base station or anything else. With my iPhone 5 I can see the Airport Express as a new base station, however I am not able to setup it because it is a old version (A1088).
I don't know why my Macbook Pro is not showing up the Airport Express. I have already tried to make it work with Windows (via virtual machine) and using Airport Utility 5.6. I also know that THIS IS NOT A HARDWARE PROBLEM! Any other network I am able to join with my Macbook.
I also looked in this forum about other users that had the same problem, but almost all of them started working after a hard reset or reset to factory settings, which is not working for me.
I just wish my Macbook to recognize the Airport Express, until yesterday everything was working fine. And today it is only working with my iPhone, but I am not able to set up it with the iPhone.
    Help!
    Thanks!

    Hey Luis!
I am sorry - i only searched for Apple Airportutility and Mavericks to post the Link :-)
    Did you already tried
    - to delete your Wifi from the list of known Wifi's from your MacBook/System Prefs/Network/AirPort/Option/
    - or maybe delete and reinstall the AirPort Service from your MacBook/System Prefs/Network
    Cheers

  • MacBook Pro can't find AirPort Express base station

My friend gave me an AirPort Express and I've set it up as a base station before. But the other day it was having problems and I reset it. Since then I have not been able to set up a base station. I have tried soft resets, hard resets, and even factory resets, but I can't get the base station set up. Any suggestions?
