Mac oc 10 combined update issues

I have updated my software to snow leopard, then checked for update, but when I update the Mac OS 10 combined my computer freaks out

Is your data backed up?
How full is your hard drive and how big is it?
Did you repair permissions?
Define freaked out.  Does it ask you to restart with four languages?  Does audio not play on all applications?
Do some applications just quit before even opening?

• Mac OS X combined update can't be saved

I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade disc from Apple two weeksago and the install went with out a problem. I went to check for updates and there’s a rather large OS X combined update 1.06GB.
When I start the download I will generally get about haveway through when the following error occurs:
Mac OS X Combined update cannot be saved.
It says to check my Internet connection, but I can’t find anything wrong with my Internet connection other than it's slow. I’m using a DSL service from one ofthe worst providers in the country.
If I restart the download everything that was downloadedprior will be partially gone. The most recent attempt it went from 520MB downloaded now when I restart it’s down to 81MB downloaded.
Short of me hoofing my iMac to another location is there anyway this update can be downloaded in smaller pieces?

Are you trying to install the update while on-line? If so, download the update .dmg file  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 and install it off-line. This is the safest way to install system updates, especially if you have dialup or slow-speed connections.
Another method is to go to a library & take a DVD to download/copy the file.
 Cheers, Tom

• Should I install Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9

I am am totally up to date with all software updates to 10.3.9, but after the last security update safari, mail, itunes and cable internet connection is slow. Cable company says all is operating fully on their end. Repaired permissions-zapped p-ram - reset safari all the basic stuff. A Mac user friend says I should install Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9.... Can I do that? Will that possibly help? What else will I need to install after that if anything. I am afraid to install the latest security update that seems to have caused all this.
Should I install Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9 on top of my current 10.3.9 configuration?

• My new iPod Classic will not sync with my new Mac Book. My iPhone 5 does, so does 2nd gen. iPod touch. Apple Store cannot figure it out. Tried different Classics on different Macs, same thing. iTunes update issue ?

The iPod Classic I bought a month ago is not synching with my new Mac Book I bought 3 weeks ago. All the software was immediately updated. My iPhone 5 synchs fine, and so does my 2nd generaton iPod Touch. The original computer I synched all of these devices on was my HP latop. I bought my Mac and Classic to the Apple Store for a 'Genius Appt' and they could not figure out what the problem is. The connected my Classic to another computer and the same thing happens. It says device is not recognized. They also took other iPod Classics and connected them to my Mac and other Macs. The same thing was happening. They took notes and said it probably is an iTunes update issue.
I can manually drag songs into my Classic but I lost all playlists because it cannot be backed up as well and they had to restore it. For now I am holding on to it but it's usless to me if I cannot use it the way I liked too. I used it for the gym and bike riding and my last iPod battery died after 6 years. A charge would last 45 miutes. I love the Classic for what I use it for but it's a $275 brick to me now. At least the renewed by receipt so I can get a full refund.
Is anyone else seeing this issue ? The Apple Store employee said he saw a first generation iPad havng the same issue. As of now the Support Dest is unaware of this. As much as I love my new Mac I am disappointed I cannot sync my new Classic to it. Total bummer.
Any help would be apprecated.

By the way, I totally restored everything. It was ok. It starts to 'unrecognize' my iPod Classic when it comes to synching with iPhoto. After this happened all the menus disappeared from my iPod (music, Podcasts, movies synched fine). It seems to be a problem when synching with iPhoto. It was the same thing before.

I am trying to update my MacBook to the latest OS X 10.6.8, but once downloaded and the laptop asks to be restarted to complete installation, it installs half way and i am returned with a message that the image data is corrupted. Anyone help or know of this error?

• Acrobat 8 Mac G4, G5 Combine files issue

We run Acrobat 8 Professional on a number of our machines (G4s & G5s) running OSX.
On the majority of machines, when trying to use the menu item 'Combine Files', the files can be selected moved to the dialogue box, but when the 'Create' button is pressed Acrobat crashes.
Does/has anyone suffer/ed similiar and know of a fix?
Steve

Also, what version of OSX are you running?
Are you combining files over the network, or are the files resident to a solitary computer when you are combining?

• Installing Mac OSX 10.4.11 combined update

I'm having issues with my Mac locking up. The mouse, pointer freezes and everything locks up completely, forcing me to restart. I thought just reinstalling my 10.4.11 combined update would fix it, but I'm now in the middle of the process and wonder if I've done the right thing. I've just installed the combined update and it's telling me to restart, but I'm worried now that it might mess something up. If I just restart will it screw anything up? Maybe it won't fix my problem, but I just don't want to lose anything I have on my machine. So if I just get out of this process I'll be happy.
Also, I purchased Tiger early on, but can only find my 10.3 Tiger disc, not a 10.4. There should have been a straight 10.4 disc, correct? Since I purchased it, way back when, shouldn't I be able to pay for a replacement disc and shipping? Then I could replace my system, hopefully curing my problem.
My Mac has been so reliable over the years I can't even remember whether there truly even was a 10.4 disc. It's been so long since I've had problems.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Leonard

Hi Leonard,
Maybe it won't fix my problem, but I just don't want to lose anything I have on my machine. So if I just get out of this process I'll be happy.
Too late, only way out is to restart.
Also, I purchased Tiger early on, but can only find my 10.3 Tiger disc, not a 10.4. There should have been a straight 10.4 disc, correct?
Correct, & do not use the 10.3's Disk Utility on a 10.4 volume.
Since I purchased it, way back when, shouldn't I be able to pay for a replacement disc and shipping?
No, the only "Replacement Discs" they might have are the ones your Mac came with, 10.3 apparently.
See Tom's, (Texas Mac Man), great info on where/how to find/get Tiger...

• The update 'MAC OS X combined' can't be installed.

The hard drive (60 GB Seagate) on my MACBook died last week and I replaced it (250 GB WD). I formatted the new disk (disk utility 'ERASE') and then installed Leopard. It installed successfully without issue.
When attempting to install 'Software Updates', I got an error for all 4 install items. Here is the error message for 1 of the install items:
The update 'MAC OS X combined' can't be installed.
The installer could not validate the contents of the 'MAC OS X combo 10.5.3' package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
Any help appreciated.

Is this happening when you try to update through 'software update'? Have you tried downloading the files directly and installing yourself?

• Combined update MAC OS X Ver 10.6.6

I have installed two times the update called "Combined update MAC OS X Ver 10.6.6".
After the installation the computer blinks the screen and the computer stop working.
I have solved this, reinstalling the original MAC OS X 10.6.1
I would like to know how to solve this problem
Thanks,

Try downloading the combined update file through a source other than Apple Software Update such as: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1349. Having the seperate file (I think its a .dmg) may help.
Maybe that will work, otherwise it may have not worked the first time because something was corrupt in your old installation so just try again.
If still no success, check that all the programs you have are not causing some kind of compatibility issue.

• HT3606 Mac OS X v10.5.8 Combined Update stalls updating my G4 1.25

Mac OS X v10.5.8 Update stalls updating my G4 1.25. A peek at the files being installed was reference to "standalone i386 efi" which has no place on a PPC. Are there different versions of the combined update? There are different sizes of the combined update.

Some general advice on updating Leopard:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

• My iphone 4s and ipad 2 both with 7.0.4 update will no longer connect to wifi but non-mac lap top has no issues

my iphone 4s and ipad2 both with 7.0.4 update will no longer connect to wifi.
About three days ago the ability to connect came and went and the connection never lasted more than 10-15 minutes; it has not been able to connect since last night. I do not think it's my wifi router as non-mac lap top has no issues. I have seem many similar questions posted.

Reboot your router by removing all power from it for about 15 seconds. Also, if your router still has its default SSID (such as LINKSYS, DLINK, NETGEAR, etc) change the SSID to something unique. Note that all other devices on your network will have to be reconnected if you change the name, but if the name is still the default that is most likely your problem.
If the SSID is not the default then the reboot should fix it.

• Downloading of Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combined Update

Hi, I have tried to download Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combined UPdate, so it downloads then says the following: Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC) cannot be installed on this computer. Now I do not have Power PC what does this mean. How do I get to download for my Macbook?

You do not have a PowerPC-based Mac, you have an Intel-based Mac. Older Macs (e.g. iBooks, PowerBooks) used PowerPC chips (from Motorola/IBM), newer Macs (e.g. MacBooks, MacBook Pros) use Intel chips. You need this combo updater:

Hey guys on my mac book pro after updating three apps wont leave my dock, when i close them they just re-appear they are "LoginServer", "USBServer" and "NetServer" any ideas to what is the issue?????? PLEASE HELP.

Hi I have just got back from the apple store and the guy at the Genius bar looked at it and said it was a manufacturing fault, and because it has been like it since new, and seemed to be getting worse he replaced the computer  and I have a new warranty from today.
We got the feeling as soon as he looked at it that he has seen this before, I did say to him I was concerned it would be a replacement screen and I was not really happy about that as it was so new, and he said that was the normal procedure, but as the fault was already there at new and it was getting worse they would replace. I could not have asked for a better service.
Not unpacked this one yet but am hoping all is good, its a great little machine.
Thank you for your responses, and I hope this might help someone else.  One thing it did not seem to be missing pixels but something to do with the screen production?
