    hey guys.
i just got Mac Office 2008 for my macbook and was disappointed to see the "office assistant" which often came in the form of a paper clip but could also be a ball, a magician or robot, etc. was gone.
i looked it up and saw that they stopped putting it in for the 2007 version..
my question is, has anyone found an alternative or something?
i really loved having a little interactive assistant like that

  • Mac office 2008......

    Hey all,
i'm just about to buy office 2004 for my macbook...can anyone explain what the difference with the office 2008 that was announced today??i basically just need it for word(writing essays) and powerpoint(class presentations)but at the same time i dont want to buy something thats obsolete...
    regards,
    Paul.

Depends on what you are using NOW for an office suite, depending on if you are using one. How much longer can you go without Mac Office?
Office 2004 on the MacBook runs very well on my MacBook and I'm not lacking in any features. I use Entourage, PowerPoint, and Excel on nearly a daily basis. With what all I do, it is difficult to believe this is a product crafted in 2004. As it is, even now, the 2004 version of Mac Office is quite elegant.
I would dig around for discounts on Office 2004. Look for upgrade advertisements: "GET 2004 MAC OFFICE, RECEIVE OFFICE 2008 FOR X PERCENT OFF." That sort of thing. This will start showing up as the year progresses.

  • I am puzzled by iMac(Intel ?).  I am running an iMac 24 and use Mac:Office 2008.  After having downloaded my Os X LION upgrade, I am suddenly unable to SAVE (and thus alter) my Excel quotations.  This is a major issue for a salesman.  Can anybody help me

I am puzzled by the meaning of iMac (Intel) as I use an iMac 2 period.  I am running Mac : Office 2004 and do all my quotations in Excel.  After upgrading to OS X LION,  I am suddenly unable to SAVE my spreadsheets.  As a salesman whose quotations need frequent updating,  my situation is perilous to say the least.  Can anyone help me ?

Office for Mac 2004 is NOT compatible with Lion. It must be upgraded to Office for Mac 2008 or 2011, once you have upgraded the files will be accessable. Office for Mac 2004 is written for old PPC (Power PC) based machines. Beginning with Lion support for PPC based apps has been dropped.

  • Mac Office 2008  on Snow Leopard - files not recognized on PC

I have a problem sending files to friends in Microsoft Word. They cannot open them because an error message "Unable to scan attachment. The attached file has not been scanned because it may be password protected or corrupted." keeps coming up. Just updated to Snow Leopard and started noticing this problem after the update in OS. When trying to get the latest updates from Microsoft, they say that the latest updates have been loaded.
Is this a problem that has been noticed by others? Is there something that I am doing wrong? Is this just another case of Microsoft making things difficult?

    Brian
I am using MS 2008 and SL with out any problems, but you might want to be sure the person your sending to can use the .docx extension. If they have an older version of Office they may not be able to read the new .docx. Try doing a save as and using the filp down format Word 97-2004 (.doc) then see if your party can open the file.

  • Microsoft Office 2008 Powerpoint "cannot open the file because it has been moved or deleted"

I am trying to open some slides my professor posted on Desire 2 Learn. It is a .pptx file. Everytime I try to open it I get an error message that says, "Powerpoint cannot access +I (drive) beacuse the file has been moved or deleted"
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office. And yes, I know just moving it to the recycling bin does not fully uninstall it. I followed the directions given in a different thread. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You may get better answers asking this question in Microsoft's support forums.
    Best of luck.

  • Mac Office 2008 (Word question)

I am wondering how/if it is possible to park the formatting palette (you know, the toolbar that lets you bold, underline, italicize fonts etc.) to the top of your Word document? Currently the only way I am able to do this is by the following:
View > Toolbars > Formatting > and than click the "Formatting Palette" logo, still under the "View" tab
What I would like to do is make this standard and automatic throughout all of my Word documents without having to individually select this option each and every time I open a new document.
    Any suggestions?

  • Cannot install office 2008 on new Macbook pro.

I have just received my new macbook pro 17 inch. I"ve installed the bundled apps cd, but when I try to install Mac Office 2008, I receive the following error:
Microsoft office for Mac can't be installed on this disk. newer-version-installed message.
I'm running Snow leopard 10.6.4 and have only installed firefox and AIM besides the software that came with the mac.
I've searched the Mac and cannot find any reference to Microsoft or office 2008. I've also gone through the "Remove office 2008 manually" from the Microsoft website and again have not found any files or folders they referred to.
Does anyone know what else I can do to solve this issue?

    Hi baltwo,
However, running Remove Office might do the trick.
I mentioned it anyway because I've seen posts in the past here where the same thing happened. The OP had manually deleted everything they could find, but still couldn't install without either running the Remove Office tool, or going the Draconian route and formatting the drive, reinstalling everything from scratch.
I think that happens if you've opened any Office trial app. It must put a hidden file on the drive somewhere that tracks your 30 day usage from there. If it does exist, then using the Remove Office tool is the only way to get it off the hard drive so you can install the full version.

  • HELP: reading arabic text in mac office & built in audio in PDF

is there anyone who can help me get support to view arabic text in macbook pro, with mac office 2008 please? i really need it very much.

is there anyone who can help me get support to view arabic text in macbook pro, with mac office 2008 please?
No, MS Word for Mac does not support Arabic yet. Just about any other app will work. Mellel is best, but you can also use TextEdit, OpenOffice, Nisus Writer, etc.

  • I cannot open any Word document or even Powerpoints or anything related to Office 2008, which has been working fine for the last 2 years. I need help...

I installed an application called "You SendIt" because some audio files were sent to me and I had to access them through it. My Mac is running Windows and OS-X. I bought an version of Office 2008 separately. I tried to uninstall it, to get rid of all my downloads and also to reinstall Office 2008 but nothing works...
Whenever I try to open a Word file, for example, it says:
"The application Microsoft Word quit unexpectedly. Mac OS-X and other applications are not affected. Click relaunch to launch the application again. CLick Report to see more details or send a report to Apple"
Of course I have tried to reset and relaunch... But it does not work. I realized today I have the same problem with Powerpoint.
I have looked at Mac help forums... but no results...
So, if you or your friend had any idea on how to solve this, it would help me A LOT!!
    Thank you in advance.
    Stephanie

    Hi Chris,
Well, I tried to delete the Caches and I threw all the .plist files related to microsoft in the trash -- athough I don't know if this is the way to delete files but I haven't found another yet....
From your other suggestions, it seems to me that you have the impression that I want to stop using Microsoft Office (it was 2007, I made a mistake) though... but this is not the case.
So... tell me if I misunderstood correctly or if I did anything wrong, or if you have anything else to suggest...
    Thanks a lot anyways!

  • Is it worth it spending $200 dlls in the new Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac?

I am trying to decide whether to upgrade my Mac to the new Microsoft Office 2008. Is it worth it? What are the differences between the new version and the old one?

There are more differences than would be practical to list here.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicrosoftOffice_2008_forMac
might be a good place to start, as well as Microsoft's website for a full description of new features. ArsTechnica also has a review of it on their website somewhere too.
Is there any specific reason for upgrading? If not, then I would recommend sticking with 2004. I went out and got 2008 about a month ago (student licensing, so it only cost me $40) and I'm not at all impressed. It's slower than 2004, even on my quad-core Mac Pro. The overall responsiveness of the application is sluggish, especially in Powerpoint. Dragging textboxes and other elements around the page, for example, is incredibly laggy and feels imprecise. No to mention Microsoft broke Endnote compatibility in Word 2008 as well, so if the Cite While You Write feature is important to you, forget about it. I'm sticking with Office 2004 and iWork for now. I don't feel so bad since I only spent $40 on it; no way would I justify $200 unless I needed 2008 for a specific reason (ie work compatibility, etc)

  • Safari Keychain error after installing Office 2008 for Macs

I installed Office 2008 for Macs this morning. It then checked for updates to download, found a couple of big ones, and they were downloaded.
Since then, when in Safari, I keep getting a message saying something like "A keychain cannot be found for Safari" with 2 options: Cancel or Return to Default. Neither one changes anything.
I use only web-based email (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) so this is a major annoyance for me.
From Office 2008 for Macs, I really only need to use Word & Excel, so I would like to uninstall Entourage, Messenger and probably PowerPoint as well. However, at this point I'm, afraid to do anything else. (Also, i thought it was strange I didn't have a chance to pick w/ Office products to install.)
Any ideas on how to get rid of this Keychain message in Safari?
    MTIA!

Follow Up: A few days later, there was a Apple software update. After it was installed, the keychain error message went away.
The keychain error was so annoying, I had decided not to install Office for Macs on my iMac, but since there's no longer a problem on my MacBook, I will probably go ahead and put it on the iMac.

  • Office 2008 - problems opening up Word, Powerpoint, Excel

I've upgraded from Leopard to SL. Now I can't open Word, Powerpoint or Excel (2008). It just hangs. Is there a fix or workaround - I do need to be able to get into these applications quickly otherwise I'll need to de-install and go back to Leopard (which will make upgrading a waste of money).

    Hi Naz,
Anytime you perform an upgrade from one OS to another, check your 3rd party software applications first to see if there are any updates necessary to download and instal; ie., Snow Leopard. Go to the Microsoft site and look for PP support for Mac. There are several other posts here with the same issue.
There is an article here re: Office 2008 - Snow Leopard and a Spaces issue.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2009/08/28/microsoft-declares-office-2008-ready-for-sno w-leopard-most-spaces-issues-fixed/
One thing you can try is deleting the associated PP preference file.
Not sure of the exact wording but try this. com.powerpoint.plist
    Might be com.microsoft.powerpoint.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag the file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac. See if you can launch PP now.
Same routine for Word and Excel preference files.
