Mac OS 10.2 Password Files?

Does anyone know where the 10.2 password files are? I would like to recover a user's password without resetting them, becuase he has stuff in the keychain that he doesn't want to re type.

Try running the following from the Terminal:
sudo strings -8 /var/vm/swapfile0 |grep -A 4 -i shortname
with shortname replaced with the account's short name. The account may need to be logged in at the time. After finding out the password, run 'sudo -k' without the quote marks, and then quit the Terminal. On newer Mac OS X versions, checking the option to use secure virtual memory in System Preferences will prevent this method from being used to discover a password.

  • Password file(s)

I need to fill out a form for our security dept. The form asks for the location of the password file(s), presumably so one can show/prove they are locked down.
I need to answer for Mac OS X 10.5.x client, and for Open Directory network-home users whose accounts reside on OS X Server (10.5.x).
An old version of this form, which was used for Mac OS X 10.3.x (Client & Server), mentioned only the following: /var/db/shadow/
Is that still correct (and the only file/dir)?

    Answered:
The passwords for the local directory are stored in
    /var/db/shadow/hash/
For Open Directory they are stored in
    /var/db/authserver/

  • Apache password file

I am serving some sites from my iMac G5 running Leopard (not Server). I want to establish a password file to restrict access to one of my virtual hosts. I had accomplished this under previous versions of Mac OS X but somehow the same actions don't work under Leopard. When I run htpasswd under terminal trying to establish a password file at
    /usr/local/apache/passwd/passwords
    or at
    /private/etc/apache2/passwd/passwords
I get "cannot create" so and so
I think my problem is that I don't actually know where or which version of apache is running (it would be the default version for Leopard since I haven't done anything fancy to make it something else).
Can anybody help me see what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks

    The default is /private/etc/apache2/
Did you sudo htpasswd? Did you create your password directory first?

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. How do I get and install the right version of Camera Raw?

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version?  . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
    Thanks.

  • HT4796 How can I take the files that were migrated from my PC to my Mac and add all those files to my current user instead of having 2 users?

How can I take the files that were migrated from my PC to my Mac and add all those files to my current user instead of having 2 users? Having to log out just to sign in on a different user to access the files is absurd.
Do I make all the files sharable to all the NOW users on the mac then just delete the files? Or can i erase my account that I made when starting up my new mac and then just use the one with the transferred files?
I just dont want to have to og in and out of 2 different accounts .. Help please.

Sorry. /Users is a folder path. It would be similar to C:\Users (if that exists on Windows).
So, in the Finder, select Computer from the Go menu.
You'll see Macintosh HD, double-click that to open it.
In there you'll see several folders. One is Users. That is where all the user Home folders exist. Select the other account's home folder and go to step 3.
If you have any more confusion, please stop and ask. We'll get there.
If you feel more comfortable, you can just log into that other account and move the files into /Users/Shared.
Then, log into the account you wish to use and copy the files from the Shared folder and paste them into your Home folder, wherever they belong, Documents, Music, Pictures, etc.  That just takes a little more work. Transferring them into Shared, and then copying into your home sets the permissions on the files so that you won't have a problem accessing them later. The steps I provided just prevent you from having to do the double move, since you are not going to use the old account once you are done.
Quick unix shorthand. If someone gives you a file path that begins with a /, that means the root of the hard drive, ie Macintosh HD (if you haven't renamed it). The path separator in unix is /, not \.
A path that starts with ~/ means your Home folder, the one inside /Users named with your account name.

  • Is there any way I can view / remove pictures from Camera Roll on the iPhone, on a Mac, without actually importing the files?

Is there any way I can view / remove pictures from Camera Roll on the iPhone, on a Mac, without actually importing the files? I just want to view / delete files without importing them.
For instance I have 1200 photos on my iPhone Camera Roll. Some of these are shots, that I've taken multiple times, some good, some bad. I just want to clean up my Camera Roll, but going through the pictures on the iPhone's small screen is tedious. I'd much rather look at the camera roll's photo's on my Mac, and then decide which files I'd like to keep, and which to delete.
I don't want to import the files, as when I import the files, and delete them from Camera Roll, now the Photo's are not on my phone, and the only way to get them back on my Phone is to Import them back in using iTunes, and then they go into the Picture Library and not the Camera Roll.
In the same way as I can view Pics from my digital camera's SD card on a Mac without having to actually copy them to my computer, is there any app out there that will let me view my iPhone pics without importing them.

    The short answer is yes.
Connect your iPhone to your computer.
    Open Image Capture application.
Click on the 4 little squares at bottom to view them as photos, not a list.
Select the photos them click the No Entry icon at bottom to delete.

  • How do i find the location of Oracle password file in the HDD

we giv the location of the password file while we use the orapwd command to create one.
later if we forget the location of the password file (incase it is not at the default location) then is there a way to find it or do we just create a new password file?
secondly, for oracle to use the password file we giv the remote_login_passwordfile='EXCLUSIVE' in the parameter file. wat tells oracle the location of the exact password file??
    Thanks

The default location are OS dependant.
On Unix/Linus it is under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
On Windows, it is under %ORACLE_HOME%/database
To change the default location, nothing inside database, but :
On Unix/Linux, you have to create a symbolic link for that file to the target location
On Windows, you have to change env variable (regedit) ORA_PWFILE and ORA_SID_PWFILE
So, you have to check this setting for the real password file location.

  • Configuring password file in oracle 10g

    Hi
Can anyone here guide me to the steps to be followed in configuring password file.
I am learning cloning using RMAN. For that purpose I need to configure password file at first.
I created the password file using orapwd utility.
and then made the required changes in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files. Reloaded listener.
Set SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NONE) in the sqlnet.ora file
Made the changes required in the initialization parameter file for the duplicate database instance.
    Next, export ORACLE_SID= <DUPLICATE DATABASE NAME>
    CREATE SPFILE FROM PFILE
    STARTUP FORCE NOMOUNT;
    rman TARGET sys/password@target-tnsname AUXILIARY sys/password@duplicate-tnsname
At this stage, I get the below error.
RMAN-00554  initialization of  internal recovery manager package  failed
RMAN- 04006  error from auxiliary  database:  ORA- 01031 :  Insufficient privileges

Are the Auxiliary and Target databases on the same machine?
Can you also check the parameter Local_Listener for Auxiliary Database?

  • Backup 3.1 V356 .Mac member name or password is not set

    Hello,
I recently changed my .Mac Password and since I have done so, backup fails with .Mac member name or password is not set when I try and backup my personal data to my iDisk.
I read on the Backup help to delete all associations with .Mac in the Keychain, which I did (I had this error before deleting the Keychain error: Invalid .Mac user name or password
Unable to complete backup at this time.) I believe I deleted all of them and now how the Member name or password is not set. My way of trying to fix this was by going to the finder and clicking on the iDisk. I did this, it prompted me for the Username and Password, I re-opened backup and still no joy.
Can anybody else think of anything?
Do I need to delete backup and re-install it or something?

    Things to try
System Preferences in the Internet section, under the Account table, re-enter your .mac email address and password
On your hard drive go to Library/Keychain and see if there are any values for .mac

  • Formatting the encrypted hard drive or intalling OS again with PXE boot can change TPM owner password file?

    Hello,
    1) I realized that when MBAM bitlocker encryption start both Recovery key and TPM owner password file are send to MBAM server. If we change the computername of the notebook, we can find out Recovery key from MBAM server with the KeyID as we can read it from
computer screen, but we can not find out TPM owner password file with the existing new computername information from MBAM server, so we have to know old names of all computers but it is impossible. So we have to do decryption and clearing TPM than we
can again encrypted it with its new name. is it right?
    2) We will going to deploy mbam encryption to our notebooks. But sometimes when a person quit the job his notebook can given to another person or new employee and based to our procedure when a notebook will given to another user it should installed
OS again with PXE boot. I would to know will it be enough to installing with this method again with a diffrent computer name or should I firstly clear its TPM than install OS with PXE to keep TPM owner password file missing as item 1?
    I hope i can explain what i mean :)
    Regards,
    SibelM

I would suggest you to first decrypt the laptop and then follow the process:-
    - Clear the TPM
    - Encrypt the type.
    - Check for the encryption behavior.
Cause I have found on some model that if the OS drive is encrypted, PXE boot fail on that machine even though I also did a direct PXE on an encrypted machine with clearing the TPM.
TPM ownership password is a hash file that gets generated with a set of algorithm. SO each time when you PXE boot, by clearing the TPM, the TPM hash password for the TPM will change. This has been done for security measures.

How can I use my orapwmydb file?

    Hi Marco,
as far as I know, you have to use the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE = SHARED option in your init...ora file.
In this case you have one password file for one or more databases. It can only have the entries for SYS and INTERAL.
I'm sorry to cannot answer your question of having different password files for different databases %-)
