this issue..
We have a older G5 XServe with XRaid connected via Fibre Channel and an Adic
Scalar 100 LTO-2 tape unit connected via SCSI.
We have been seeing some issue with our tape unit lately and looking for
suggestions on a fix or work-a-round.
BRU suggest this:

An Important Note for Mac Users of BRU Technology Under Mac OS X
Since the release of 10.4.10, there are a number of issues that have
surfaced with writing to tape and disk devices. For this reason,
10.4.10 is not compatible with tape devices connected to Mac OS X
10.4.10 via SCSI, FireWire, USB, SAS, or Fibre-Channel.
This is not a BRU Server software problem, but rather an Apple Mac OS
X problem when using any type of software that communicates with tape
devices.
Other problems with XRAID, Xsan, and other disk devices communicating
over these channels may also be realized.

an update on my client's situation:
os: server 10.4.11
scsi card: LSILogic Ultra320, 1.3.39.0 firmware
tape: exabyte 1x10 library, vxa172 tape drive
after a reboot, but still running 10.4.10, the tape drive appeared on the SCSI bus.
after installing the 10.4.11 update, the OS can't see the tape drive, but the library is. basically, that's no different than before the update.
does anyone have any ideas on how to scare the drive into reappearing? would unloading/reloading kexts help? the library is basically useless without the tape drive reliably recognized by the SCSI card.

Mail Activity shows 47 emails waiting to download, iPad and iPhone download them all OK - no extra big files stopping the download either. In the past, quitting mail has worked, but not today... I have a system I am working on that communicates with some custom hardware via USB. I used the NI driver wizard to create some visa drives, and perform USB RAW writes and reads, and everything was working great. Unfortunately, I just found out that there is a whole other application written in C++ by someone else that also has to communicate with the same hardware on the same system. Their application uses WinUSB to communicate with the device, so currently the only way I know of to switch between the two applications is to uninstall the VISA drivers, and install the WinUSB drivers, or vice-versa, depending on which application one wants to use. This obviously isn't going to work long-term.
I'm not sure how to fix this so that we can use both application on the machine without having to constantly change the drivers back and forth. I thought about trying to call WinUSB.dll using LabVIEW, but I'm afraid that might get a little complication. I figured I can't be the first one to run into a problem like this before, so before I start down the WinUSB road, I thought I would check to see if anyone has any better ideas. I'm afraid trying to get at the source, or in anyway changing, the C++ application is not an option.
Thoughts? Ideas? Is calling WinUSB in LabVIEW my best bet?

Most likely. Unless you have access to the source code of your other application and can change it to communicate to your device using VISA Raw. NI-VISA has a C API so it is technically possible.
Technically it is not so much WinUSB which is the likely problem but probably something in the application installation which registers WinUSB as the driver handler for your USB device resource. Except for filter drivers, which are chained into the driver chain by Window and for which Windows has a configurablle maximum limit of active filter drivers in the system, Windows only allows one driver to register for a specific device resource. So it would be technically enough to just change that registration entry to point to the currently desired driver.
However this registration API (SetupDI API and its friends) is quite cumbersome and the whole process is rather brittle as it easily can break with every new driver update. Also it would never allow to run both application in parallel, even if you make sure that they do not communicate to the device at the same time.
So calling WinUSB in LabVIEW is probably your safest bet. It won't be trivial, the WinUSB API is somewhat involved but it is definitely doable. The most difficult part is the implementation of your device protocol anyhow which you seem to have tackled already for the VISA raw mode, so I do not see real road blocks ahead, just some botherings about correct Call Library Node configurations -
T500 Base System Device and PCI Device issue

I cant seem to find the right driver for the Base System Device. Earlier this morning, I had 4 ?s named Base System Device (under Other Devices in the Device manager). Once I ran the ThinkVantage System Update, the other 2 Base System Device have disappeared. How come I still have 2 listed that need to be updated? Also, the PCI Device has a ! sign. Any ideas?
I've already tried running the system update, and installed the Ricoh 4 in 1 card reader.

Openvpn and vmware fusion - can os x and VM share a tun/tap device?

virtual machine is xp pro sp2
in mac os x tunnelblick is able to successfully create the vpn tunnel across the tun/tap device. when i execute ifconfig in terminal i see the tap device listed. when i look at system preferences -> network i don't see the virtual device listed. this is my first mac so i am not sure if that is expected behavior. just for the sake of comparison, the virtual device was listed in my "network connections" on my previous xp pro machine.
the vmware fusion windows xp VM however, only has access to the airport network connection. it would be nice if the xp vm could piggyback off of the os x tun/tap device. is this possible? at this point i am just going to install openvpn in the vm as well - nothing like having multiple vpn connections from the same hardware
i have read that tunnelblick has some issues on 10.5, but i have only noticed odd behavior when my laptop goes to sleep.

Use tunnelblick to establish the VPN, and configure your VM to Share the network connection (NAT). This will then allow your XP client to route traffic through the VPN tunnel.
I've also noticed issues w/ Tunnelblick VPN's when my MacBook goes to sleep (usually when I close the lid to go to a meeting). I'm sure there is some Mac Expert that has a "preferred" method to resolving this, but I found that going into Activity Monitor and forcing a quit on the "openvpn" process fixes the issue. This is basically resetting the tap0 adapater.

No. There is no way to upgrade any Mac Pro older then the cylindrical 2013 Mac Pro to ThunderBolt.
The requirements of Thunderbolt require a totally redesigned motherboard and chip set rather any plugin cards. These motherboard were never developed for older Mac Pros. -
My PC crashed. Before crash I had it an office Mac, an iPhone, an iPod and an iPad. That's 2 computers and 3 deivces. Or is it 5 authorized devices? Anyway, since the PC crash I bought an iMac and my office Mac was replaced by a MacBook pro. I moved my iTunes files from my office Mac to my MacBook. I moved my PC iTunes files to my iMac from my unaffected external hard drive.
I am now totally confused regarding what is authorized and what is not! Only three devices appear in my iTunes account. I "removed" the PC. Still I am told that I can't download MY apps to my new iMac because I have 5 authorized computers. Really? Actually I have NO authorized computers. Only one that has my apps still (my office Mac).
If I deauthorize all I know I can start fresh. That makes sense. What has be balking at the idea is the "one time per year" deauthorization! What is the point? Give me an accurate list allow me to deauthorization and authorize the devices I wish. It is MY account with MY purchases,

I currently use an iPhone, an iPad, and a Mac computer for business. The three devices have Contacts Managers that sync with each other through both Google and through Mobile Me. Currently, this has created a mess of duplicate contacts. Please advise me on the steps necessary for removing these duplicates and establishing a syncing solution that doesn't regenerate the duplicates. There are several applications available that remove duplicates, but I am not sure which ones work or don't work. I want information on this, but most importantly I want to understand how to fix this problem permanently. Also, I read somewhere that Mac's new operating system, Lion, can help deal with duplicates. I don't have Lion, but I would be willing to get it, if this would fix the problem.
Had the same problem with 4 devices (two computers, an iPhone and an iPod). The solution is simple: open the Address Book application in your mac, ask it to locate duplicate entries (under one of the top menu items, "edit" I think), and then ask it to consolidate them: it took me all of three seconds after I figured it out: worked like a charm! PS: if you have more than one mac with unconected Address Books, repeating the operation in the second one may be a good idea.

That's not an Apple ID. That is your admin account which you can view in System Preferencs > Accounts or Users & Groups.
If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud. I have no idea how I go 2 IDs

You need OSX 10.7.2 or higher in order to access icloud. The mobile me account is now defunct (it closed down more than a year ago).

My iPod touch bluetooth cannot discover my iPad nor mac air, but it can discover other devices... I don't understand why. My Mac and my iPad can't discover it, as well...
Thanks for this... I actually wanted to pair my iPad with my iPod touch so I can use the keynote remote app in my iPod touch to control my keynote presentations... I was able to control my presentations through wifi... I wanted to use the bluetooth since internet connection is quite slow.. The app tells me I can connect through bluetooth with my iPad but sadly, it can't... I've been trying to pair them but the can't discover each other... :(

Help with Spry, acting weird in Mac Os 10.5 10.6, 10.7 and Ios Devices
I use Dreamweaver CS4 for designing our school website. The url is http://www.stpiusxschool.org
The menu bar on the left is built with a Spry Asset, it is to expand to different choices on some of the lines. The issue started about a month ago, if I click on the first item that should expand out (Parent Resources) it will not expand out, then I choose the second one (Student Resources) it expands out, I go back to Parent Resources and it will expand....this happen on Mac 10.5 and Ios Devices (Ipad, and Iphone)
On Mac 10.6 menu bars will never expand out.
I have tried many things, I have ran the Spry Updater and uploaded those files. I have built a page outside of my site, it appears to work ok, then copied that Spry Asset folder into the site, no luck.
I have built a second spry on a test page within the site, and tried it out, it doesn't seem to work correct either. It can be accessed off the main page mentioned above, scroll to the bottom and click on test, that is just what it is a test page.
School is starting soon and this site is used a lot for resources during the day.
I have called Adobe and got no where with them but that even took hours.
If someone could help me out that would be awesome.
By the way, I know nothing about coding itself.
