Mac OS 10.4 installer discs

I need to upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.4. I have looked at installer discs for sale on eBay, and find listings like: "Apple Macintosh Mac Mini G4 Installer DVDs - 10.4 Tiger" with "Installation DVDs for first generation Power PC Mac Minis. Will work on the 1.25GHz G4 and 1.42 G4 models." and "2 APPLE MAC PRO OS X 10.4.7 TIGER SOFTWARE INSTALL DISC". Are these installer meant for those specific models? What installers can I use on my G4?

Machine Model: Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics)
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.9)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 500 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 768 MB
Bus Speed: 100 MHz

Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*. For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray) (See Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac? ). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.

Possible Alternative if you are currently using Panther 10.3 – Do a Google search for Tiger 10.4 Upgrade DVD . It will upgrade your 10.3 to 10.4, but it doesn’t contain the full retail Tiger installer. Should be cheaper than the retail Tiger install DVD.

When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.

Yes you will need to install the apple drivers for win vista. When you boot from a cold start, have you tried holding down the option key to choose which OS to boot from? If you have then, you could try going into startup options from the mac side and choose win vista if it appears. That could be risky though, as you mentioned you do not have the mac install disk. If problems arise you may need the mac install disk to undo the changes.

Mac OSX 10.4 Installer Disc

Hi,
I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro, bought two years ago. After all that time its become kind of.. clogged, slowing down, more prone to crashing, so I wanted to reinstall OS X.
It came with OS X 10.4 installer discs but they were lost a long while ago. Is there a way to make a replacement install disc, or somewhere I can apply for a one?

Just to add to BDAqau's advice. Not having your system disks is like having a boat anchor instead of a computer. What maintenance have you done lately? While your waiting for replacement disks there are some things you can do that might help your system to run a little better. One thing you could do is,
Restart your mac:
Safe Boot: Hold down the shift key after the chime until the Apple logo appears and the gear is moving.
It will take awhile but you will be asked to login.
Go to your Applications folder> Utilities and launch Disk Utility.
In the left side column, highlight your drive and repair permissions.( button down below)
Empty the trash.
Restart your mac.

Can i transfer the OS from one mac to another without installation discs?

Hi,
I have just bought a new mac (well, a second hand one but new to me!) but it doesnt have an OS pre installed. I currently have the Powerbook listed below installed with OS X 10.5.2 and I was wondering, is it possible to transfer the OS over to my new mac?
Unfortunately I have lost the installation bits, i.e CD, but I just wondered if any techy wizards out there knew of a different way?
It would be really useful and save me alot of money(!) but if the worst comes to the worst I will just buy the OS again!

Ok thanks thats cool...neither are intel based.
however, being fairly inexperienced with macs im not completely au fait with how the directory system works.
Using CCC I can copy files, but how do i copy a whole OS?! I mean where, for a start, will I find all the files associated with the OS that are necessary for it to run?
Secondly, once I have copied all necessary files to the target volume, how do I go about installing the OS? Or will it do it all automatically?

No, don't do that. As Dave said, if you're running Lion, use the Recovery HD (partition, actually) that should be on your internal HD already. See Using the Recovery HD for details.

Need help in using mac installation disc

hi guys, my out of warranty macbook's hdd has died on me... so i went out to get a replacement 320GB sata drive, everything was working fine, and macbook detected the hdd, i am able to install my mac osx tiger using the recovery disc, but during the last portion of the installation of disc 2, it say there is a error installing this software it always happen at the same spot, when it's trying to install garageband.
is there something wrong with my macbook, or is it because of the installation disc, i'm at a very very lost state without my macbook T_T

Since GarageBand requires 4.3 GB of drive space, check available space on the disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.

Since Lion came pre installed on your Mac, the App Store doesn't not recognize that as a purchase so you if you want to re download Lion to create a boot disk you will have to pay for it. You can then re download Lion on all your authorized Macs for free.

My dvd player is no longer working and my mac will not accept my installer disc

my iphoto is no longer working either, as well as my dvd player, so i decided to reinstall, using my installer disc, but my computer turns it around a few times, then spits it out! what can i do?
I updated recently to os x maveric, that is when my iphoto stopped working, yet i have previous photo;s in the iphoto gallery, the dvd stopped working a while ago for no reason.

It's not possible to restore the operating sysem from your install disc on a Mac running v10.9 Mavericks.
The only way to restore OS X is to startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery
Try iPhoto and the DVD Player app after you restore OS X.

Mac OS 10.5.6 Installer Disc Utility

Can anyone show me how to get to the Utility menu on a fresh Install of Mac 10.5.6 using the Installer disc? I need to create a RAID volume before I install the OS onto my new Mac Pro. On the RAID Utility User Manual, it said once we started with the Installer, we can select from the Utility menu to perform RAID setup prior to Installing the OS. However, I tried several times, I only got to the Language selection screen and then it went onto the Installation.

It did not come with its original OS X 10.5.8 Installation Disc/s and I now have one or more problems with my Hard Drive, so I need the Installation Disc/s. Can someone please advise me where I can buy the correct (genuine) version of Installation Disc/s for my MacBook, please?

Stick the disk in, reboot holding c.
Disk Utility is a menu option about the 2 or 3rd screen in the installer. (don't install OS X!)
Because your booted form the installer disk, you can repair the disk.
Quit and exit the installer and reboot.
If your drive is not repaired, make a note of all what it says, for Apple to use.
Reboot and get your files off to a external drive,
Take the note and your comptuer to Apple for a warranty/Apple care call, they will replace the drive.
