Mac OS 10.4 somehow reverted back to 10.3.9???

I recently had issues with my G5. I brought it to apple and it turned out it was a board issue and they were able to fix it. Anyhow, here's my issue. The computer was originally bought by a friend and the discs that came with it are for 10.3.5 It was then upgraded to 10.4 and and was over time updated to 10.4.11 I never did have the disc for 10.4 After I got my mac back from my board issue, my mac was back to 10.3.9 It has all my updated software on it, itunes 8, dashboard, etc, but they all won't run since the computer thinks i have 10.3.9 and not 10.4??? Help! Anyone know if my computer saved my old settings or a way to get my 10.4 back? I don't want to have to purchase 10.4 tiger again (for $129) if I had it all already.

The hardware problem may have damaged the operating system on the disk or they may have suspected the problem was software, so they reinstalled OSX. Since it shipped with 10.3, they installed that, and updated it to the latest version, which is 10.3.9
If your friend kept the 10.4 disc, then you weren't authorized to be using 10.4
If your friend isn't using his 10.4 on another computer, he should give you the disc. Otherwise you have to buy a retail version of 10.4, or get Leopard (same price, but easier to find) if all your applications will run on it.

  • Can I no longer backup my Itunes library to a dvdr since I have Itunes 10.5?  If not can I somehow revert back to a previous version of Itunes to do this?

Can I no longer backup my Itunes library to a dvd+r?  If not, is there a way to revert back to a previous version of Itunes like 10.3?

    Will this work?
Yes, but it can't be done from within iTunes. Choose to consolidate it from the Library section of the File menu, and then move the iTunes folder to the drive.
I could try to backup to CD-R, but one of my albums is 708.6 MB big, which is too big to fit on one CD-R.
That will work. Unless a single song or video is too large to fit on a CD, iTunes can back it up to a CD.

  • I have a new mac book air and somehow iPhoto was installed twice.  Also, a second library was created and it became the default library.  I attempted to switch to the original library but it won't open.  what can I do to revert to the old library?

I have a new mac book air and somehow iPhoto was installed twice.  Also, a second library was created and it became the default library.  I attempted to switch to the original library but it won't open.  what can I do to revert to the old library?

Both iPhotos open to a default library (#2) which has 300+ photos,  I attempted to "switch to library" under the file tab in iPhoto and tried to choose "other library" which had most of my photos.  When I attempt to open it, it doesn't do anything.  I can see it and there are 2 libraries but it won't open.
Have you tried to open your old iPhoto library by double-clicking it directly, instead of using the File menu?  That should work, if you are running iPhoto '11 and the library has been created by that version or an older version.  DO you get an error message, if you select the library directly in the Finder?
I checked and it is the latest version of iPhoto.
Is it iPhoto '11, version 6.0.5? "Latest version" is ambiguous, because it will depend on your system version.
Where is your iPhoto Library stored?

How did you copy files to the external drive, and what files did you copy? Did you drag and drop in the Finder? Use a clone utility? What files did not successfully copy?
If you reformatted the drive as part of your install, then you won't be able to recover any files from the drive. Reverting back to (reinstalling) 10.4 will not help you.
Do you have a complete-drive backup of your old system?

Do you mean that all changes you made to your files are lost, or do you mean that changes to your preferences are lost? For example, pick any small file, make a copy of it, and put the copy on your Desktop. After rebooting, is the copy still there?

Yes you can, however it is A LOT easier if you make a 10.6 TimeMachine (disconnect it) and/or (best) a 10.6 Carbon Copy Cloner bootable clone. (disconnect it too)
TimeMachine drives are not bootable, so you will require your 10.6 install disk (slow) to be perfectly functional to boot and perform the ENTIRE drive erasure required to restore the 10.6 TimeMachine copy (slow) to the internal drive.
With a 10.6 bootable clone on a external drive, it's hold the option key bootable, so your up in seconds on the 10.6 clone and can be erasing the entire internal drive while surfing the web.
Also if your 10.6 disk is not working, the clone is, so it's another bootable backup.

The other more complicated method to restore 10.6 on a machine that was upgraded to 10.7 or 10.8 is to extract all one's files into a neutral state on a external storage drive. (not TiThen use the 10.6 disk to wipe everything and reinstall 10.6 fresh, then programs then files.
10.7 and 10.8 changes things in the User/Library, so you can't just restore from TimeMachine backwards.
Also newer versions of programs from Apple changes their support files, like iTunes Library and iPhoto Library, so it's a lot more work extracting your original mp3's and jpg's for reimportation into 10.6 versions of those programs.

After being prompted to download Firefox 4, I did so, only to find out that it will not work with my operating system which is Mac version 10.4.11. So now I cannot use Firefox. How do I revert back to my previous version?

You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

  • Indesign reverts back to defaults everytime mac is restarted...help?

Ever since installing CS4 I have had this trouble with Indesign -- specifically with the measurement units reverting back to the default of picas everytime I shutdown/restart my mac.
Yes, I have tried the old method of changing this in the preferences without any other files open. Has something changed with Indesign CS4?
I believe even some of the other settings revert, but none of those bother me as much as this problem with the measurements being in picas everytime.
Any suggestions on what I can do to make it quit reverting back to the default? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Changing default prefs only affects new documents, not those you've already made. Is that perhaps the problem? If the new defaults aren't sticking for new documents, I would suggest the first thing to try is trashing (replacing your prefs entirely) and editing them once again. So, here's the thing I just upgraded to Mac OS X Mavericks from SL but since upgrading my mac shuts off immediately by itself so I use it in safe boot. When I was running SL I didn't backup my stuff because I had external hdd, but I just bought one and I want revert back to snow leopard. How do I go back to snow leopard while also taking all my saved stuff even though I didn't backup it back then when I using SL?

    PROBLEM
    =========
After upgrading to maverick 10.9.2 my camera stopped working on my iMac and on my MacBookPro.
First I suspected that it was the maverick upgrade, which was the problem.
After spending several days with searching on the internet and trying all the different suggestions.
Which included re-format hard disk, re-install Maverick again, safe boot, removing old *.kext files, repair disk, check disk with permissions etc. etc. (waste of time)
I phoned apple support, but supporter said that it was a non apple App which caused the problem.
Then I say somebody saying that the AirDisplay was the problem.
    SOLUTION
    ==========
    I finally found out that:
By uninstalling the AirDisplay solved the problem, and now the camera works again.
Here is the link  how to uninstall AirDisplay:

  • How do I revert back to Mac OSX 10.7.4

    Hi
I having problem tethering my Canon camera to my macbook pro with latest software update 10.7.5  .  How do I revert back to 10.7.4  ?
Apple should really work closely with the major Camera manufacturers like Canon , Nikon and Phaseone before coming out with a software update .
    Best Regards
    Soon Tong

All of those manufacturers had 10.7.5 for weeks before release in which to identify and correct any incompatibilities. Canon, from other posts, wasn't even aware that such an update was released to developers, but has promised an update "soon". Some in Canon-related forums have reported that version 2.11.0 of the Canon utility will work where 2.11.4 crashes, so you might try that older version if you have or can track down a copy. Otherwise, call Canon tech support.
As to reverting, you can't as such. You will have to reinstall 10.7 and then apply the 10.7.4 Combo Update.
    Regards.

  • File has reverted back to old version

    Hi,
I opened up an excel spreadsheet and somehow it has reverted back to the original old version that I first made in 2012, I have no idea why it did this.
Normally this wouldn't be a problem as I have saved it multiple times and I back up my mac regularly using time machine, but for some reason all of the versions of this in time machine have saved as this old original from 2012?! I read and edit this spreadsheet at least 2 times a week and have now lost 2 years worth of updates, has anyone had this happen to them before or managed to retrieve any information?
    Thanks for any help!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>iTunes and App Store and sign out and sign back in
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • HT4718 Hi. Has anyone sucessfully reverted back to Lion from Mountain Lion? Was there anything i need to be aware of? Thanks

The only program i really use is M-Audio Torq Connectiv for djing. Now i've updated to mountain lion this software/hardware no longer works. M-audio arent updating this particular software so i need to revert back to lion....help!!

You can't use the Mountain Lion altered TimeMachine drive with a older operating system version, your files are trapped.
You first need to get back to Mountain Lion, and restore from TimeMachine so you have access to your files.
Next you dig through your files and get to portions that are neutral file formats, like .jpg, mp3, .gif, text, doc etc., and that will work across nearly all computers and operating system versions. You basically want to get your files/data out of proprietary 10.8 program only versions and into something you can manage importing into older versions of programs on the older operating system.
Once that is completed you want to copy all this to a external drive, if you work with Windows, take the new external drive to the oldest Windows machine and right click and format exFAT. If it's a XP machine, there is a free exFAT download from Microsoft to install and reboot first. This way you have the most compatible format for your files possible. The Mac formats exFAT incorrectly and will not work with PC's. If your never going to work with PC's you can format the drive GUID /OS X Extended Journaled in Apple's Disk Utlity. Don't format MBR/MSDOS as that has a 4GB file size limit. Don't format NTFS as Mac's can't write to that.
Once you have all your files off the machine and the external drive disconnected, your now ready to revert back to a older OS X version.
If you originally had Snow Leopard on the machine, then that's the disks you want, even if the machine came with 10.5 or earlier.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Once that is installed, you Software Update fully to 10.6.8 where AppStore appears and you can reinstall 10.7, if it's not there or you upgraded directly to 10.8, then call Apple and order 10.7 and they will send it to you online.
Once your on 10.7 then install your apps and then access your basic files from the storage drive.
The 10.8 TimeMachine drive will somehow have to be erased so it can be setup to be used with 10.7 again, not sure how to go about this as I don't use it, it's terribly limiting for my needs.
If you used a bootable clone for backup of 10.8, you could have avoided all this mess because cloned drives are directly accessible to get at the files from nearly any operating system, unlike TimeMachine which is designed to trap and only move forward with OS X upgrades.
