Mac OS 10.4.x built in overnight processes

I know there are several applications that will run Tigers built in overnight maintenance processes: macjanitor, oynx, etc.. on command (meaning that those of us that turn our macs off at night can run them manually without going into terminal).
At one point, I thought that I read that one of the minor updates to 10.4.x fixed this by running them at startup if they had not been done for a certain period of time. Then I have also read where this "fix" didn't really fix the issue.
Anyone have any info on this? Why wouldn't Apple just make a preference that could be accessed just like the others in system prefs?

A simple solution for automating the process is to install one of several third-party utilities:
Macaroni
Anacron
PseudoAnacron
You'll find them at www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com.

considered it should be '' BUILT IN APPS '' ??
So does it really make sense that i should buy these apps again after i already payed an extra amount of money in the first place to get a model that includes them ??
after formatting my mac these apps should be there like its a whole new device that i opened !!!
I hope anyone with any useful information can share his thoughts or help with further steps .

trying to do an upgrade to microsoft office for mac. Asks to Stop deamon and other processes How do I stop?

You switch to the applications that are named, and quit them. But sometimes they are, like daemons, not normal applications. For those, you need to open Activity Monitor, find the name of the daemon in the list of processes in the Activity Monitor window, select the process and choose View/Quit Process.

I forgot my passcode, so I was unable to access my phone. I then tried to restore it, but it has frozen during the process. It won't connect to my mac again and I can't stop the process because my lock button is broken. What do I do?

My first advice is "Back up the device, then have it replaced."  Second item of advice, "Don't forget your passcode."
One of the purposes of the lock button is to recover from certain software failures.  Without the lock button, such a recovery is nearly impossible.  My advice would have served you best when the malfuction first developed, not after you forgot your passcode.

  • My mac can't detect the built in speakers randomly anymore.

Here is the story: I turn on my mac this morning as it starts up normally and plays its startup sound through the built-in speakers.  Then I go to Garageband and want to finish this mix I was working on 2 days ago.  But the sound in the status bar was grayed out: and so sound would come out.  But there was nothing plugged in.  So I went to sound preference pane in System Preferences and this is what it said: If you need any additional pictures or screenshots, respond I will gladly post them.  You can talk to me in an advanced way because I have another Apple ID that is linked to an Apple Dev. account.

  • Compressor 3 + 8Core Mac Pro + Frame controls = Do your encoding overnight?

So as many others have mentioned here mysteriously a g5 can often times outperform an 8 core intel mac on certain compression jobs. I have figured out something which some of you may want to confirm but it appears very interesting to me the culprit appears to be frame controls.
Heres how came to this conclusion:
Took a DP G5 Power Mac and a 8core Mac Pro, put the same source movie on both machines and ran a standard apple setting on them (h.264 800K for download), results Mac Pro is about 5x faster then the Power Mac. Next step turn frame controls on (no adjustments just turn them on). Thats it, now the Power Mac is about 2x faster then the Mac Pro so what i make of this?
Sounds like apple needs to come out with a software update.

so have some more information for any of you who are interested. the real culprit seems to be the adaptive details enabling this option makes my encodings on the macpro go approximately 20x slower. For comparison the power mac only slows down by a factor of 3 (for reference the macpro is a 2x4x3 Ghz w/ 9G Ram, the G5 is a 2x2.7 Ghz w/ 2.5 G Ram).
    Some strange facts:
Negating the effects of the adaptive details option, even though the mac pro should theoretically be at least 4.4 times as fast for encoding processes, the fastest i have been able to achieve in compressor without the use of virtual clustering is 3.5 times as fast, the slowest was a mere 20 percent faster. with virtual clustering and segmenting on the range i have for compressor performance is 94 percent G5 speed on the slow end and 6x on the fast end.

Contact Apple at the "Contact Us" link at the bottom, right of this page and ask for a DVD replacement.
Without the DVD you cannot do anything.

  • Will a 3 hour long download of an upgrade be cancelled if the Mac goes to sleep mode during the download process?

    I have a Mac 10.10.1
    27 in. monitor
    2009 late
    Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
To download the above OS upgrade (10.1.1), because I noticed the long time needed to download, I clicked on system preferences, Energy saver, Computer sleep/never,
    Display sleep/15 minutes.
The download came through in flying colors.
My question is, did I need to do that, or could I have left the Energy Saver alone and the file would have downloaded anyway?

  • Trying to get text to wrap ALL the way around either text, images, shapes in Mac Pages. I tried in Pages Word Processing

I have tried everything to get text to "wrap completely around" other text, images, shapes.  Mac Pages - tried  Word Processing and tried Page Layout.  Inspector, wrap, Floating and Object causes wrap.  The text will ONLY wrap at the TOP and BOTTOM of the object, etc.  No matter which choice I make in Object causes wrapping.  It just doesn't work.  I have worked for hours on this - I can't find a solution.  HELP!

    What version of Pages?
I suspect you are using Pages 5 in OSX 10.9 not OSX 10.8.4.

  • Mac OSX desktop dropping connection with multiple copy processes & large files

The servers are 6.5 SP3 running NFAP, the MAC OSX is 10.4.2 updated. The
volume the macs are using is part of a cluster. The users mount the volumes
on their macs and everying is for the most part fine. If they grab a bunch
of files and copy them from desktop to server it's fine as long as it's only
a single copy process. The users are part of the hi-res department and the
files can be 1GB or larger. If they drag one or more large files, and then
while that's copying they drag some more files, so both copy processes are
running at once....quite often the volume will dismount from the desktop and
you will get unable to copy because some resource is unavailable. Sometimes
the finder crashes, sometimes not. Often the files that were partially
copied get locked and the users needs to reboot their Mac in order to delete
them. I'm getting pretty desperate hear, anyone have an idea what's going
on. I don't know if this is a Tiger thing or a large file thing or a
multiple copy stream thing, a netware thing or a mac thing.....we have
hundreds of other users running OSX 10.3 and earlier who are not reporting
this problem, but they also don't copy files that size. Someone please tell
me they have seen this before....thanks very much. Oh, before going to 6.5
and NFAP the servers were 5.1 with Prosoft server and they never had the
    problem.
    Jake

Thanks for your help, I have incidents open now with Apple and Novell, I
hope one of them can provide something for us. We tried applying 6.5 SP4 to
a test server....the problem still happened but was "better", the copy
operations still quit but with SP4 applied the volume did not dismount....or
if it did it remounted automatically because it was still connected after
    OKing through the copy errors.
