  • Mac OS 9 Client and Oracle 9i

    We have some Mac Clients with OS 9. They are actually connected via Oracle Products for Macintosh (SQL*Net 2.3) on an Oracle 8i Instance. Now we want to migrate to Oracle 9iR2. Can we use the same client configuration? Is there any newer client software for Apple Macintosh?
    Thanks for your help

    Currently you can use the OCI8 client - it works fine against Oracle 9iR2 - and it works in Jaguar and Panther. You can even use Powerbuilder or Xcode to compile your apps.
    (the OCI8 client includes the necessary Net8 files)
    if it's java, there is also a JDBC/Thin driver.

  • Mac OS X Intel and Oracle

    When will Oracle support OS X.
    Especially for Developers is the intel OS X a very nice machine.
    But I'm waiting for more than a year for the Oracle Database.
    When will we get the OS X Intel version?

    There is more to this wish than seeing Oracle databases certified for OS X Server.
    I want to believe that one of the reasons Oracle is so competitive is that they made a wise decision to make so much of their software available for download on OTN. I am among the developers that took advantage of this for educational purposes, and having so many people with Oracle skills had to have helped Oracle sell. Contrast this with Informix, which had a dedicated following (and to be fair strengths in certain applications). But trying to get "play" versions of Informix was impossible, and see where they are now.
    Back to OS X, I believe we are seeing the Mac approaching a critical mass on the desktop. I still have my Dell/XP, but only because of a few holdout applications that don't run natively on my Mac (I know about VMware and have it, but it's only close, not the same).
    Not even Apple loyalists (and I am not one of them) can tell Steve what to do. This should not stop Oracle from porting at least XE to OS X. And even if it never makes it to OS X server, there's a good argument to support OS X on Intel for the desktop. Even if Apple is now focused on being the iPhone company.

    This forum is used is discussions about Certifications issued by Oracle (OCA,OCP,OCE,OCP) to people who have satisified the Certification Requirements.
    Sox etc are not disccused here.
    The following link may or may not be useful [http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/index.html]
    I suspect the database general forum mkay be the best place for your question ... others may know a better forum.
    In general this is often discussed under security.
    Also 11gR2 has features which may better support some aspect of socks compliance.

  • OracleOCIConnectionPool and Oracle 8.17 Database

    Can the OracleOCIConnectionPool libraries(java:oracle.jdbc.oci.*;) be run against an 8.16 database instances?

    The application of the connection pool is a custom connection manager for XSQL servlet, I suppose it could be an EJB ... Unfortunately I am tied to 8.16 for the forseeable future, as you pointed out, the drivers are not certified for that use.

    I'm using Crystal Reports for Eclipse version 2.0.4.r825 with Eclipse 3.5 and Oracle 11g as database. I configured the database connection using ojdbc14.jar. Some of the tables i want to use in the report contains columns using the SDO_GEOMETRY data type and if i try to drag this table in the data tab of the report i get the following "Unexpected ValueType" error:

    I tried the same with the Crystal Reports 2008 trial version and i'm having the same problem.
    <br />
    <br />
    I don't wanna use the geometry column in my report but because of this error i can't use the whole table. Is there a way to avoid this error and still use the other columns of the table. Or maybe there is another way to connect to an Oracle database which can handle this special data type.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jens Keller

    Hi Jens,
    Views would work also as you noted.
    No, if DB manufacturers change/update their Servers/clients they need to follow ANSII 92 standards. If they don't return the correct data type then CR will not "hack" our drivers to fix their issues. We did that for years and was a code nightmare, when they got around to fixing the problem it broke CR again. We decided to follow the standards, it may be our issue sometimes but in this case unique data types typically are not supported by CR. If you want support and it's not a client issue then add your request to the Enhancement Request2 post.
    So yes in your case it would make it easier but for others they'll be asking why CR doesn't show all fields. Same reason.... not a CR issue.
    Thanks agian

  • Our Java application is built with java 1.4 version and oracle 10g

    Our Java application is built with java 1.4 version and oracle 10g version database, is it possible to upgrade oracle database to 11g?

    is it possible to upgrade
    Yes. SE and the other editions have a migration/upgrade utility, not seeing any mention of that program in the XE license docs. To upgrade to 11gR2 from 10g, the 10g instance must be at patch 10.2.0.2 or higher.
    So if you're a GUI dba, might be out of luck. But the the XE install has the catalog upgrade scripts that need to be run, there is a MOS note explaining the manual upgrade steps.
    Or set up a brand new 11g database instance and datapump your user schema(s) from the 10g instance to the new 11g instance. The database doesn't care what java version you're using, it just does what its told with the data. DDL, DCL, DML ... its not much different. Quite a few new features in 11g.
    But if you're after JVMs that piece is not supported with XE.

    Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
    The many "failed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews mean nothing. Those warnings are not a reason to reinstall the OS, or to do anything else at all. They should be ignored.
    The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
    For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • ICal and Oracle's Corporate Calendar

    Does anybody know if it is possible to set up iCal to use oracle's Corporate Calendar?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    I don't believe so, though only Oracle support personnel could probably tell you for sure. There is hope in the near term, however, as both Apple and Oracle are members of CalConnect, the calendar and scheduling consortium:
    http://www.calconnect.org
    Mac OS X 10.5 will ship early next year with iCal, Teams and the iCal Server components, will will be CalDAV compliant. It's the emerging calendaring standard being jointly developed by CalConnect members. In addition, Apple is already shipping an open-source version of the technology incorporated in iCal Server.
    So, it shouldn't be long now…

  • GUIDE: Oracle VM VirtualBox and Oracle Linux NIC bonding

    Author: Dude
    Date: 01-Jun-2013
    Version: B
    Last updates:
    23-Jul-2013, changes required due to forum upgrade
    The following  is provided in the hope that it might be useful. If you wish to use it for the purpose of reference, presentation or education, please include the link or information to this forum posting. Thank you!
    What is Linux network interface bonding? Simply put, the Linux system provides a kernel driver, which can create a logical network device (bond) using 2 or more Network Interface Controllers (NIC) to accomplish link-aggregation and adapter fault-tolerance. For more information, please see the Deployment Guide at https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/
    The channel bonding interface supports several modes of operation. In a typical active-backup set up for fault-tolerance, the system performs MII-based health monitoring of the network interface slaves (eth0, eth1) and assigns them according to bond options and interface availability. In active-backup mode (mode 1), only the current active network device is seen externally.
    Linux bonding for fault-tolerance under Oracle VM VirtualBox does not seem to function as advertised. Searching the Internet for more information shows that other people have tried to set up Linux bonding using various virtualization products, virtual host network adapter and bonding options, but without success.
    It appears the management of Media Access Control addresses (MAC) interferes with internal routing methods between the host and the virtual machine guest. Using the modinfo bonding command (fig. 1) shows a listing of available parameters for the bonding kernel module. The fail_over_mac parameter addresses the Mac address issue in VirtualBox.
    Fig.1
    # modinfo bonding
    filename:       /lib/modules/2.6.39-400.17.1.el6uek.x86_64
                    /kernel/drivers/net/bonding/bonding.ko
    parm:           fail_over_mac:For active-backup,
                    do not set all slaves to the same MAC;
                    0 for none (default), 1 for active, 2 for follow (charp)
    Configuration Example
    Virtualization Product: Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.2.10
    VM Guest OS: Oracle Linux 6.4 (x64)
    VM adapter settings: Bridged Adapter, Paravirtualized Network (virtio-net)
    Adapter1 (eth0): 080027436617, en0, Ethernet 1
    Adapter2 (eth1): 08002708F36A, en0, Ethernet 1
    Note: If you wish to reset the network adapter names and MAC addresses used by the Oracle Linux guest system, erase the content of /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and restart the virtual machine.
    1. Create or modify the following configuration files:
    /etc/modprobe.d/bonding-eth0_eth1.conf
    alias bond0 bonding
    /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0
    DEVICE=bond0
    IPADDR=10.0.2.12

    DNS2=8.8.8.8
    ONBOOT=yes
    BOOTPROTO=none
    USERCTL=no
    BONDING_OPTS="mode=1 miimon=100 fail_over_mac=1"
    /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
    DEVICE=eth0
    BOOTPROTO=none
    ONBOOT=yes
    MASTER=bond0
    SLAVE=yes
    USERCTL=no
    /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
    DEVICE=eth1
    BOOTPROTO=none
    ONBOOT=yes
    MASTER=bond0
    SLAVE=yes
    USERCTL=no
    2. Restart the system or network services (root):
    Fig. 2
    # service network restart
    Configuration Test
    Enter the following commands as user root to verify proper operation of NIC bonding:

    During the above test, the client network connection from host 10.0.0.1 (ssh) was maintained without any noticeable interruption. As it can be seen from the syslog and ifconfig command output, the bond0 interface was automatically assigned either the MAC address of eth0 or eth1 and the fail-over worked as advertised.
    Good luck!

    Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only.
    However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
    What we found from out testing:
    - The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
    - The file can be closed and  Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
    - Also, until the  Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
    Example Scenario:
    - User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines
    - Meanwhile User 2 opens test.css as well (opens as 2000 lines as User 1’s edits have not yet been saved) and adds in code to bring it to 2300 lines
    - User 1 saves his file and closes it - but  Dreamweaver is still open.
    - User 2 also saves his file and leaves  Dreamweaver  open.
    - The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
    - If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
    - Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
    Other information:
    - Files are opened directly from the server
    - Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
    - Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
    - The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
    - The users are usually working on the files all day
    - It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
    It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
    Anyone know if this is a known issue?
    Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?
    Thanks

    Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.
