Mac os 10.6.8 and facetime

Hello,
I have Mac os 10.6.8 and i'd like to confirm that Facetime is compatible to use on it before i download?
Thank you in advance!!
Brian

Yes, Facetime is completely compatible with 10.6.8   I'm using 10.6.8 here and do find that Facetime is a very worthwhile addition to my computer's capability.

thanks.  your answer was correct, clearer.  I have another question, maybe you can answer.  I just purchase my ipad2 2 days ago.  yesterday, there was a sound.  today there is no sound.  there is a sound only in movies and you tube and music.  but no sound on all apps and keyboards.  I look it up and seems like ther are few that have this problem.  I called walmart coz I bought it there and they told me that they have not heard that before but if I can't fix it, just return it and exchange it with anew one since I have 14 days to do that.  I tried rebooting it and still won't work.  Should I just restore it?

If I use google it works. If I use Ichat, it works. If I use skype it works.

This sounds like something similar to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3388112?start=105&tstart=0.
Try turning down the speak volume (System Preferences->Sound->Output->Output Volume)  or the microphone gain (System Preferences->Sound->Input->Input Volume). Do this on both sides of the call.

  • Your computer could not be verified Mac App Store and FaceTime

    Hi All
I've been trying through several forums for a long time to find a solution for my problem before giving up, I'll go down to the point:
I have an iMac Intel 20" early 2008 (I can provide more detailed specs when required). I am using Mac OSX Lion installed from a usb and prior used Snow Leopard. They problem has been consistent thru all versions, same symptoms, same all.
    1. Whenever I try to login to Mac App Store I get the famous: "your computer could not be verified, please contact support for assistance". FaceTime also does not login, promptying a "server error, try later".
    2. Contacted support, and after 16 emails back and forth all I was told at the end was: "I am able to log in into your mac app store account from this side after resetting your account,is there anything I can do for you today".... (!!!!????)
    3. There has been a problem parallel to that, and although I am not sure they are related anyhow I need to point it out. My ethernet port stopped working and there is no way to create any connection through it. I can still use wireless quite well (reason why I still keep my machine). After sending the machine to repairs, diagnose was that it could be a problem on the logic board and to fix it may require to replace LB entirely. So I decided not to go for it and keep the machine only with wireless connection.
So I have tried every single solution found (so far...) on google and forums to no avail: a) deleting .plist, b) resetting network configs and creating new locations, c) resetting PRAMs (not sure if it solve anything, but tried anyway) and others. The problem still persists with the same symptoms.
I can login into iTunes store and buy applications from computer, iPhone and iPad, which makes me think that my credentials are valid, alas, I logged into this forum using them.
I also tried creating a new account at App Store, when I request it through the Application, the "little fan that advises you to wait" appears, but suddenly dissapear with no warning or message at all (!!!!????). It is like you never requested anything in first place.
Obviously I can still use my machine for internet and stuff, but my ability to purchase/use any Apple software is seriously restricted. I cannot purchase any software anymore if AppStore is going to be the main way to acquire it (which I think it will).
    So, my big questions are:
    1) Is this hardware problem (ethernet, logic board, connection ports) remotely related to the machine authentication process when using MacApp Store and FaceTime through Apple?
    2) Is there a way to fix this through software, before I consider replacing the machine? (Please take into account that I have already tried TS1811, deleting .plist files, resetting network, creating new locations from scratch... I basically searched thoroughly on google, forums and tips and tried all reasonable found recommendations before posting).
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Livia and Huevoos (eggs??) for your interest in this post.
In a nutshell, I haven't been able to solve this. I gave up on Apple support after they proved useless.
As Huevoos suggested, and I confirmed it time and again after browsing thru endless forums, it seems that the user validation routine for the Mac App Store is done by looking into your network settings, which in my case are either incomplete or erroneous due to the broken-down ethernet. (I am still waiting for somebody more experienced in this forum to contradict or explain this).
So, because I still have wireless connection, I can use my machine for day-to-day chores, have not been able to purchase anything up to this date in the Mac App Store though. I'm waiting for either a software update that could correct this (Mountain Lion??? there's no guarantee only hope) or the moment when my machine will need to be replaced by a new one with a functional ethernet.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help. But I'm pretty much in the same situation as you guys.
    Live long and prosper.

  • Phone number not showing up in imessage and FaceTime on ipad or mac mini

I have the ipad, Iphone, and a mac mini. I am confused as to why my phone number is not showing up in imessage and facetime  on my mac mini and ipad. I had it set up but for some reason it is not working now, it just shows my apple sign in email address. How can I fix this?

    Hi, sarahr1987.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is a troubleshooting resources I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.
Phone number missing on iPad or iPod touch
If your phone number isn't listed on an iPod touch or iPad, follow these steps:
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you're using on your iPhone.
On your iPad or iPod touch, sign out of your Apple ID in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID with FaceTime and iMessage.
If your phone number still isn't listed, follow these steps:
Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Receive At and Settings > FaceTime.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your other iOS devices.
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage

  • I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 ,I want to buy the updated operating system that puts iMessage and Facetime on my Macbook Pro. What should I search for, and then purchase, in the App Store?

I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 ,I want to buy the updated operating system that puts iMessage and Facetime on my Macbook Pro. What should I search for, and then purchase, in the App Store?

FaceTime can run in the version of OS X that you currently have. To get Messageyou need Mountain Lion. The protocol used by Messages is iMeassage.
The question is does your MBP meet the specs for Mountain Lion.
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

  • IMessage and FaceTime not working on Mac Pro and message stating to contact Support came on

iMessage and FaceTime not working on Mac Pro and a message stating to contact Support came on with a verification code.  It was working on 8/29 but stopped on 8/30.  When I called support to even speak with anyone they wanted $19.  I don't want to pay $19 for an Apple problem.  I cleared my key chain, also reset my apple ID password but still not working.  Works fine on my iPhone.

There is no official public documentation of that error message as far as I know, but according to reports, it can mean (at least sometimes) that the same Apple ID is being used with the iTunes Store or one of the other Apple content stores, and the payment method is invalid. Sign in to the store and review your account. You do not, of course, have to provide any billing information to set up an account to use only with iMessage, as it's a free service.
Otherwise, do what the error message tells you to do. According to reports, you won't be charged for the call if you select "Apple ID" as the product you need support for, and cite the customer code in the alert as the "validation code" to the support representative.

  • HT6114 camera is not working in my mac for skype and facetime

camera is nt working in my mac for skype and facetime calls.there is no option for camera also in my mac...

    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, (the "reset" suggested there
often restores normal function,) continue with the following.
    • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the latest Combo Update.  For your
Mac OS X (10.7.5), the latest Combo is http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1582
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of the camera.  For hardware help, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

Yosemite 10.10.1, new mac mini (2014) logitech webcam c910, Facetime, picture is unstable (shakes and flashes)
The problem I have is that when I start a Facetime video conference, the picture is unstable (shakes and flashes) after a couple of minutes.
The webcam works well with Skype and Viber, the problem is just with Facetime.

  • FaceTime 3 and FaceTime 1 mac ?

I just saw accidently that there r2 versions of Facetime out there, and would like to know if somebody can explain me in simple newbie-english,
Whats the diference between Facetime 3.0 and FaceTime 1.0.2 on a Macbook Air.
BTW I do have Facetime 3.0 already installed but like to know if the 1.02 is an update to 2013
....or is it just a money-melk software or Apple.
    Thnx

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
They are just FaceTime versions for different OS X versions without any new feature. For example, FaceTime 3.0 works in OS X Mavericks, and FaceTime 1.0.2 is a paid version for Mac OS X Snow Leopard, which is for older computers

  • IMessage and Facetime aren't working on my Mac

I recently swapped my iPhone 4 for a new iPhone 4 because of damage (this may seem totally unrelated but bear with me). I synced the new phone to iCloud and iTunes, but iMessage and Facetime stopped working. Is there something I need to do between the new phone and my computer in order for Facetime and iMessage to work again? I was thinking maybe the phone network had something to do with it even though I didn't change my phone number. I've been told by friends to log out of my Apple ID and sign back in through iCloud, but I'm hesitant to do that because when I began to it kept asking if i wanted to delete certain things from the Mac through iCloud. Please help! Thank-you

Are you still getting the check the network connection message? If you are, try resetting your router. It can't hurt to try it. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in again. Then try to sign in again.
Something else that you can try is to reset all of your settings. That returns all of the settings in the settings app back to factory defaults. You will not lose any data, but it takes some time to restore all of your settings to where they were.
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.
If none of this works, describe what is happening in some more detail.

  • Message and facetime on mac

    it wont sign in, help!

Update: after resetting keychain, I can login. But imessgae and facetime do not wok. I cannot receive any messages and cannot invite people facetime.

  • My iphone 5 wont let me sign into imessage and facetime!

I recently bought a iphone 5 from my aunt. I went to AT&T to go activate and switch over phones. (I had a iphone 3gs). I later went home and tried to log into my imessage and facetime, but it wouldnt let me. I keep trying and it says "iMessage Actavation - Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try agian". I have wifi so my internet can not be the problem & and my internet on my phone works great. I can sign into my itunes and icloud witout any problems. I tried turning my phone off and on, restore the iphone and reset the settings. Ive also tried calling my company but said they couldnt help. And I called Apple and told me to the same time ive already tried doing. I dont know what to do anymore. And im hoping someone can help me out! Thank you!

One thing to remeber , this issue occurs because of poor wifi  or internet connection. If this isn't fault in your case, try these because it happens in all products of apple like mac, ipad mini, ipod touch..
Check you apple id and sign in again.
Change you DNS to open DNS or Reset you network settings.
    Reboot you iphone once.
