Mac OS 10.6 + Sharp AR-M165: USBF IOUSBPipe Leaking a pipe

Sharp AR-M165 connected through USB still reconnects. There is no possibility to print or scan through VirtualBox, VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop. Worked smoothly under 10.5.

As Sharp doesn't have built-in Snow Leopard drivers for the M165:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
You'll probably need to look for open source Snow Leopard drivers*:
http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
Note, this link:
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=457229
Suggests you may be able to use the AR-M161 driver that's built-in to Snow Leopard.

Currently experiencing problems with the Mac OS 10.5.2 and Sharp network copier printer working together. Searching the web for the current drivers, and could only find the drivers for Mac OSX 10.4 Anyone know of another “third party driver” or other Sharp driver that would work for the network printer?

    Any suggestions

I couldn't find any information on this particular model either from Google or on the Sharp USA site. Frequently, manufacturers will use or emulate the PCL 5 or PCL 6 printer languages. If the unit is black and white only, you could try the generic PCL Gutenprint drivers. If the unit is color, try the generic PCL drivers from the hpijs package. _http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs_

  • 1080i versus 1080p display - Mini Mac & 46" LC-46D62U SHARP monitor?

We solved our scattered image resolution problem on our new 46" SHARP LCD monitor running on a mini mac (Thanks to BSteely's recommendations).
But we are working with a 1080i resolution by lack of having the option available to set it to 1080p. The mini mac doesn't offer it by default. We are recommended to use switchResX because there is something in the Intel driver for the GMA 950 graphics that picks up on the fact that it is connected to a TV and not a normal monitor that causes it to limit the mini's output to 1080i.
Can anyone or you BSteely share your experience with the software? Is it free? Is it worth it? Will be have more of our money worth: meaning more visible quality going through the process of switching from 1080i to 1080p? Any risk for us to mess up the resolution we were able to obtain so fare (after lots of struggling)?
What is the real difference between 1080i and 1080p? Why are TV's with the 1080p capability more expensive?
Yes, I am a novice in the field. Whole new world. Exiting but confusing. Thank you for all the possible enlightenment.
    Deborah

Probably you are dealing with two seperate issues. One is handled from the TV's side and one is handled from the mini's side. First, on the TV, set the View Mode to "Dot by Dot". Refer to the TV's user guide for how to set that mode. That should get rid of jaggy artifacts you mention.
Second, on the mini, it is widely reported that 1080p does not always show up within Displays preferences as expected. Or sometimes 1080p is in fact being sent even when the mini says the resolution is 1080i. It's hard to say which is the case.
Those times when 1080p is not offered as a selection within Displays preferences, others have had success to get it to show up by going into Displays preferences and selecting the "Show displays in menu bar" option. Then, under the resulting menu bar icon that looks like a display, scroll down to "Number of Recent Items" and select 5, or even try 10. For some people, doing this has caused a second 1080 resolution to show up, where the second one is 1080p. A reboot may be required to get this to work.
To check if the mini is outputting 1080p or not, I believe you can check this from the TV by hitting the DISPLAY button on the TV's remote. It should report what it thinks is the format of the incoming video signal. Good luck.

  • Disfonctionnement mac mini et TV Sharp

    Bonjour,

  • Problems using Mac Mini with a Sharp 60" led 1080p

My Mac Mini is connected to a Sharp LED 60 "and I use the VGA input but when I use 1080p resolution, then the text becomes blurred and chopped up. Why does this happen?

I don't know if this will help but doing a search I found that you have to turn sharpness off or down to 0 on the TV for the best display.  I have a 40" display and it did the trick for me.

  • Is it possible to stream a rented movie from iTunes on my Mac Mini to my Sharp Aquos Smart Tv

The TV sees other machines on the network just fine, the Mac Mini doesn't appear in the list on the TV.  Trying to get rid of the Windows laptop and just use the Mini, but it is not visible.
Every other thread I've read suggests using an HDMI cable or even an ethernet from Mini to TV but I would like to just leave it all wireless (if possible) since 40' of cabling is not practical!

    is that the only way?
I failed to mention I am posting for a friend, I have an Apple TV myself but don't want to come across as pushing more Apple products
Airplay is no doubt the way to go aside from an ATV but I'm looking for something that will allow the Mini to connect to the TV through WiFi and carry on...
    The search continues!

  • Correct connection for Mac book air to sharp aquos smart tv

II'm almost positive I need a mini display adapter, but have read contradicting statements in the forums.
the following link will show the connections available on my tv on the second picture down.
    http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeEntertainment/LCDTV/Models/LC70SQ15U.aspx

The connection on a PPC Mac mini is DVI. It comes with a DVI to VGA adapter. You do not need to use the adapter if you just get a DVI to HDMI cable. If you haven't updated the mini to Leopard, you may want to for best results. You will also probably want to upgrade the RAM in the mini to the maximum possible (1gb). This will allow you the best resolution you can get from the mini to the TV.

  • Mac mini DVI to HDMI with Sharp Aquos 46' LCD TV

    Hi,
I currently use my 2008 Mac mini on my Sharp LC-46X20 TV using the DVI to VGA adaptor and the TVs VGA input. I currently have the resolution set at 1280 x 768 at 75hz. The picture on the whole is fine, filling the screen perfectly. However, the text is not as sharp as I would like, looking slightly blurry and jagged around the edges, poor in comparison to my iMac.
I have been toying with the idea of getting a DVI to HDMI adaptor and connecting my mac mini to the TV this way.If so will this picture fill the screen AND solve my text problems? I have heard different stories, with some people having a nightmare and some people getting it to work fine.
Was hoping someone would point me in the right direction before I spent any cash on the DVI to HDMI adaptor.
    Thanks
    David

    Just to update this:
Got my DVI to HDMI cable today!
Plugged it in, booted her up and was presented with a perfect 1080p HDMI signal without having to alter any display settings.
    Fantastic!
In my display menu I have 10 resolutions to play with with , 3 of which are full 1080p, one is specifically for PAL tv in the UK.
    Couldn't be happier!
Hope this thread helps anybody who is having any connecting woes between their mac mini and their sharp TV
    Thanks

  • Mac Mini DVI to HDMI (blank screen, "no signal")

I have an older Mac Mini with just DVI.  I bought a Monster Cable DVI to HDMI adapter (http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=4596) trying to hook up to a Samsung 46" LCD TV.  All i see is a black screen with "No Signal".  What am I doing wrong?  This worked when I had a straight DVI to HDMI cable (from MonoPrice).

  • Mac mini - dvi to hdmi and 1380x768 resolution

    Hi,
I've connected my mac mini to a samsung television with a dvi - hdmi cable. Running 1280x720 I get a very nice picture, but also a black belt around the picture. In order to use the full screen (but not overscan) I suspect a 1380x768 resolution is called for. How do I get about that?
    Kind regards, Torben

  • Mac Mini 1.83/ OS X 10.5.8/ SwitchResX

    Hi Guys!
Im using a Mac Mini with a Sharp 37" LCD. DVI-HDMI and my issue is a "black bar" to the right. Fixed it with SwitchResX. works fine with 10.5.6 but since the upgrade 10.5.7 SRX would not work. I mailed Stephane Madrau SRX support and i got this answer. I've checked the 10.5.7 sources and compared them to the 10.5.6
Apple added a new part in the code, which basically says: if the monitor is a model with HDMI1.3a, then it will use some HDMI specific modes named CEA Timings, and never use any standard mode sent from the monitor with the EDID (which is the standard display data exchanged between monitor & video driver).
That's probably the source of your problems, and the ones in the thread...
I do hope it gets fixed in a future version.
So my question really is. Does anyone know if this is fixed in 10.5.8???
    Thanx 4 any help

I am having the same problem (Sharp 52" LCD, picture shifted to the left and a few pixels up). Unfortunately not even Snow Leopard has been able to fix this issue. What makes it even worse is that the picture shift is taking place only after computer sleep + reawakening (i.e. no problems directly after reboot).
SwitchResX is the only "solution" I've found this far, but it is far from stable and comfortable. Every time I've restarted my Mini I also need to sleep it and immediately restart it in order to shift the video image to the correct position.
Anybody that knows of a more permanent and stable fix?

  • Macbook connection to aquos sharp

    Hello,
I have tried connecting my Macbook to my sharp aquos tv via DVI and eventhough my mac picks up the sharp, there is no image on the tv.  I have changed resolutions, restarted, tried changing the analog pc to digital pc but for some reason it is not allowing me to.  Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    I'm having the same problem.
Have tried with a MacBook and MacBook Pro, one running Snow Leopard and the other running Tiger.
MacBook connections: Mini DVI to DVI adapter to DVI cable with VGA adapter to Vivitek projector.
MBP connections: DVI cable with VGA adapter to projector
Both computers recognize projector in displays preferences. Still no signal.
    Have tried various displays settings.
Have downloaded DVI to VGA firmware update from Apple-no good for me probably because my adapter is Mini DVI to DVI-stupid system-thanks Apple!
Have tried third party download "SwitchResX" that allows preferences to be customized in the "displays" preferences panel. No signal, no luck.
Have spoken with Apple Care-clueless-not willing to take any responsibility for this problem even after I tell them of the thousands of posts on this site relating to this problem.
Have spoken with Vivitek-even more clueless
Should I purchase the $19 Mini DVI to VGA adapter? Stupid system-thanks Apple!
Should I return my projector, both of my Macs, and buy a PC?
I just want the projector to work. Isn't anything plug and go?

an out-of-the-box mini should not behave like this.
call Apple and have them arrange for a replacement.
