Mac OS 10.7 Server won't mount DMG's after opening and closing - "Resource Temporarily Unavailable"

I am running Mac OS 10.7.3 Server on Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon with multiple users editing on Avid.
DMG's containing raw camera footage are stored on the server, mounted by connected users on their desktops to allow Avid to access the enclosed data within the DMG's. Recently we've started encountering a problem opening the DMG's after they've recently been opened and closed. After opening and closing a DMG. when we try to open it again from the same user/connected computer or any other user/computer we see an error message saying "The following disk images couldn't be opened" NAME OF DMG "Resource temporarily unavailable". This happened to several users with several DMG's.
We have since restarted the server, which appeared to fix the problem for about a week and now we are having the same issue again.
The only changes made recently have been an update to version 4.2 of our ISIS 5000 which all of the Avid systems edit off of, but I don't beleive that to be the cause of the DMG opening issue. I suspect it might be caused by the Pram still thinking that the DMG's are open when they've already been closed.
Not sure if this is relevant, but we had been running only Mac OS 10.7 systems connected to the server but within the last few months we've been adding several more systems including those with OS 10.8.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? Does anyone know the fix to this problem?
Thanks for any and all help!

Also, we have been able to copy the DMGs to desktops and external drives, which normally would not be possible when a DMG is currently open by another user which is the standard situation in which a DMG would say "Resource Temporarily Unavailable".
After copying to another location, they open normally so we believe it is an issue isolated to the server itself.
Thanks!

    Hi,
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If after reboot that doesn't help...
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

My mac mail on just keeps sending the same messages even after deleted and shows thousands of emails supposed to be coming in

If you have a backup, you can restore the e-mails. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Library/Mail/V2.

  • Mac mini G4 won't mount music CD after installing Leopard

My Mac mini G4 has some issues mounting music CDs after installing Leopard. I did an "archive and install", everything seems to be working fine, except the CD issue. I have also applied all the relevant updates. I didn't have any issue with CDs in Tiger on this system.
Just after booting, the CD does mount. However, I can't eject it by dragging it to the trash can. I can unmount it only by hitting the eject button on the keyboard.
If I insert the CD again it won't appear on the desktop anymore. It doesn't appear in iTunes either, no matter how often I try.
I noticed someone else in these forums had the exact same problem. The problem was marked as solved, but in fact it wasn't. No information is available in the forum on how to solve it.

This EXACT scenario happens to me. It started the day I upgraded from 10.4.x to Leopard. My workaround is to go into Disk Utility, find the CD (which shows up as unmounted). Click on the CD. Then click the "Mount" button at the top. It works, but I'd like a real solution.

  • Mac as a file server for windows -- mounting a mac disk at windows startup

Is there any way to use the Mac as a file server for a windows XP home service pack 1 system?
The best I can do is "mount disk at login". However, this fails to use the right username/password, and even then it fails to deal with programs that run outside of a user context, or with fast user switching (it seems every program gets a different set of drive letters to remote volume mappings).
    Mac Mini 1.42 1G   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    And this is my problem.
    In windows terms:
I want to assign a drive letter to a network drive, and have that be a machine-wide assignment, that is activated during bootup, and is visible to all users and services.
I can do that for an arbitrary partition that is physically attached to the machine.
I cannot seem to do that for any partition that is mounted over the network.
    The problems are:
    1. It doesn't map for every user,
    2. It doesn't map for services that run when a user isn't logged in
    3. It generates annoying inconsistencies in what programs see what.
Is there really no way for an XP box to use a file server? Even a microsoft file server? (if there is, how do I make my mac os with samba look like a real microsoft file server).
Annoying tidbit: The "conncet at login" information is stored in the user profile; if you rely on that, then the user profile cannot be stored with the rest of the user's personal files. If it weren't for that, I could probably live with a work around.
(2 to 1 someone will say "Xp Professional can do that trivially" and tell me to upgrade. I thought XP home was supposed to support home and small office networking, and I thought that included a single shared file server.)

  • Apache http server won't run - error 1067 - after installing forms

Hi, I succesfully installed the 9i on a Windows XP machine. I included the Apache HTTP server in the install. It all worked fine. Then I installed the Oracle development suite (rapid application development selection), and since cannot get the Apache server to run. It gives error 1067. On issueing "F:\oracle\ora90\Apache\Apache>apache.exe start -k" I get the following error: "Syntax error on line 14 of F:\oracle\ora90\rdbms\demo\aqxml.conf: Invalid command 'ApJServGroupMount', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration".
Any ideas?? I amnew to both Oracle and Apache. Thanks for any help offered.

did you install the development suite on a different Oracle home? In case it is on its own oracle home, it happens that the new install overwrites the PATH environment variable and sets the path of the new oracle home prior to the previously installed oracle home, this could affect old oracle home, since it will be looking for libraries and executables at the wrong OH. Change back the PATH environment variable, so the old OH is referred first.
Start once more the oracle http server, first by means of the windows service, and verify the httpd.pid file doesn't exist prior to attempt restarting it.

  • How do I get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar which won't go away even after uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox?

Can't get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar that seems to be just hanging and won't go away. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but the bar is still there after 2 days. I updated something (can't remember what!) on I.E., and it had the same blue bar, but it had a box I could x out of so it went away on I.E. I don't know why the blue bar is there on Firefox, as I did the update while on I.E.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I updated an application while on Internet Explorer.

    Annette,
#In the menu bar, at the top of the Firefox window, Go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions.
    # Locate ''each ''of the following extensions by name and click the disable button
#Restart Firefox as prompted and see if the undesired toolbar has been removed.
#The extensions to disable are: '''Crawler Toolbar''', '''MP3 Rocket Toolbar''', '''MSN Toolbar''', '''Search Helper Extension'''
If you don't need some / all of those toolbars, consider leaving them disabled.
You can probably remove these toolbars permanently from Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.

  • Illustrator CC2014 won't reopen file just recently edited and closed. "Illustrator cannot open file" message.

Windows 7 Home Premium, Dell XPS desktop.  First problems with AI in a LONG time.  Used to be able to go to the control panel for programs and "repair" the installation, now can only un-install.
This file is originally from a previous version of AI, opened it in CC2014 and edited, nothing extensive, just text updates, and after closing, it won't open again.  And the program crashed.  After a re-start of the computer, I could open a different file, but not the "problem" file. After re-doing the edits on another (even earlier) copy of the source file, the same thing happened.  I can place the file in InDesign, and export to pdf, which views fine.  I plan to try to edit the InD pdf in Illustrator, to see what happens.
Otherwise the computer seems to be fine, all other apps seem stable.  So far.

The file size is the same as the previous version.  I placed the AI file into InD, made a pdf, and can open and edit that pdf in Illustrator.  If I could get the "bad" file to open, I would save as to a new file, see if that would help, but since it won't open....  Just weird.  I should have what I need now, so I don't plan to spend any more time on it.  Thanks for thinking about it.  I just hope I don't end up eventually having to uninstall/re-download and re-install Illustrator!
The only image is embedded, no link.  I don't have any non-standard plug-ins.  I will keep in mind about the preferences, but why only this 1 file having a problem with them?  I did install some fonts for another job while also working on this; I will keep that in mind, too.
    Thanks again.

  • Mac Mini, OSX Leopard Server: Won't Boot

I have a Mac Mini Server that 's been stable and connected to my home network wirelessly.
But the signal strength has been so-so.
So I added an Airport Express Modem in my system and installed the adminstrative CD that came with it.
The Mini saw everything and set up the Airport Express fine and it worked great...for about 3 minutes.
I was checking  the speed when it became non-responsive. I shut it down and tried rebooting, and the loading ball spun and spun and spun and did nothing.
I tried rebootijng from a regular OSX Disk and it was non-responsive.
I got it into diagfnostic mode, got a diagnostic screen showing me everything was working, but it still only shows a spinning ball forever and won;t boot.
Using an external DVD, tried using the administrative disk, but I also couldn;t get into it.
No matter what I've tried, the "loading ball" spins and spins and spins...and won't actually load anything.
Ideas, suggestions? I HATE to hit the genius's this time of year..IT'll take FOREVER!!!

Smells of a low-level hardware failure.
I'd usually suggest ordering a spare Mac Mini Server, and rolling in your backup, but Leopard is a very long time ago and jumping to Lion is going to be involved.  Which leaves you to scrounge something old enough to run Leopard or Snow Leopard, and moving to that.
Or you get to brave the local Apple store, yes.
If you don't have good backups of your disk, stop working with the server Right Now, as - if this is a disk-level error - further activity on a failing device tends to reduce the likelihood of eventually recovering the data.

  • Mac Pro with Leopard Server won't reboot

I seem to be stuck at the grey screen after a reboot of my server. Here are the symptoms and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced them before or has some idea of where to look:
    1) Over the last couple of weeks, I've noticed the entire system freezing up for 10-20 seconds. The spinning pinwheel pops up and when my office is really quite, it sounds like either a fan is starting on the system or a hard drive is spinning up. Note that I've turned off all 'spin drives down when possible' in energy savings.
    2) After the 10-20 seconds, a bunch of disk activity occurs and everything goes back to normal.
I've tried repairing permissions, checking for errors with the drive, etc. I've got two drives striped in Raid 0 (yes, the system is backed up--so I'm not worried about loosing data).
After a recent software update, I had to reboot it, and that's where it got stuck. Could be something there for some time, but my server usually runs for months at a time, unless an update requires a reboot.
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

  • My Time Machine partition on an external HD won't mount in OSX, but loads and reads fine in Bootcamp

I've been using windows 7 a lot recently for school, and when i do, i can have my external HD mounted to access files (read only) if needed. Last night, after restarting to OSX 10.7, my data partition(not time machine) loads fine, but the other partition of the same HD that i use for time machine refuses to mount.
It shows up in Disk Utility as a greyed out name 'disk1s3' but i origionally named the partition 'Story Time Machine'. The greyed out partition shows up as 500gb, which is correct, but it says its formatted as FAT32. In windows, it says its formatted HFS.
I've tried running Disk Repair both in OSX and in recovery mode. I ran a checksum on the drive and it came back fine.
    Any suggestions?

It could be a problem with enclosure, but it also could be a problem with the drive itself or the drive is possibly corrupted. I would start by contacting WD tech support.
It may be possible to recover files from the drive using file recovery software:
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
Otherwise, unless the drive fixes itself like before you should try repartitioning and reformatting to determine if the drive has failed or is now working properly.
