Mac OS 10.7 shockwave bug

1.  Open a jigsaw puzzle on a web page, examples @ kayingleside.com
2.  When loaded click on a puzzle piece and move it around.
problem: When you click the piece it disappears until you release the mouse button then it reappears in the new location.
expected behavior: The puzzle piece should be visible while you are moving it.
This bug happens to many shockwave/director applications of mine where the user clicks and drags a sprite on the screen.
Are there any workarounds for this shockwave bug?

like a light in the dark we need more tools in the mac os like whats running now in back ground  and foreground and what
resources performance/strain is incurred. also is slow due to back ground anti virus work load strain on cpu and ram we need a mac app in built that
informs us who why and what, how and where then recommend the solution. like quit that app or upgrade ram so on.
or the app conflicts with safari example thus slow performance.
Hello, Ian.  You will find the information requested above in the Mac Utility called "Activity Monitor"  There, you can find what processes you have actively running, how much of your CPU they are taking, and how much RAM they are using.  You can also check to see whether your RAM is sufficient by selecting "system memory" in the Activity Monitor.  If you are getting lots of "page outs," this means that you are using your hard drive for "virtual" memory and should consider adding RAM.
With regard to antivirus work load strain, I cannot comment on that--I use only the Mac OS and do not have antivirus installed.  However, if you search in Discussions you can find recommendations.
I hope this helps.  Take care.

  • Bridge CS6 Mac XMP File Info Panel Bug: can't copy and paste metadata

The cmd-keys / shortcuts doesn't work in the xmp file info panel btw. in the xmp / iptc fields (e.g. cmd+c, cmd+v, ...) of Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac OS 10.6.8 and 10.7.3). You are not able to cut and paste info from one box to another like previous versions.
This bug only appears in the xmp file info window (opened via alt+i) in Bridge CS6 - if you edit information or metadata in the file info panel in Photoshop CS6 copy and paste from one field to another works.
The shortcuts also work under Windows (tested under Vista).
I noticed this minor bug already one in the Photoshop CS6 Beta more than one months ago. I hoped that this was corrected in the official test version, but unfortunately it is not. Although it is a minor bug, it is IMHO a basic function and would be very helpful in my daily work - it is too bad, that such a small thing is making working with the application a little bit annoying.

Thanks! If there is a workaround or simple solution, I would be very glad if you could inform me.

Mac OS X Mountain lion bug sometimes the programs don't like to lunch and I unplug the power cord what shall i do

Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.
If you're not comfortable with English, it may be best to post in your native language. Others can use automatic translation, if necessary, to help them understand you. They may reply in their native language, and then you can do the same to understand them.
    Google Translate
Screenshots can help overcome a language barrier. To upload an image, click the camera icon in the message editor on this page.
Give details of the problem. A statement such as "it doesn't work" conveys no information. If it did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any pertinent information, but it didn't help, include details.

Why is the message app popping up on my mac when everything has been disabled on my iphone and mac as per the instructions all over this forum, I use my phone for messages, not my mac. Is this a bug? I just want it off my mac forever!
Have disabled in Messages > preferences on the Mac
imessage is disabled on my iphone
Same goes for Safari which pops up on the mac when I open it on my iphone, how can I disable it all?

Thanks but have signed out, disabled and nothing.
    It's Yosemite not Mavericks.
What it won't let me do is delete the account as the - button is greyed
    out.
It won't let me delete the app from the OS

  • Windows XP users can't access SMB/CIFS shares on MAC OSX10.4.4 Xserve bug?

The Xserves are new for us. This problem involves two of the 10.4 xerserves.
1 serves as an Open Directory System Master(10.4.3). 2 Serves as a file share & backup (10.4.4).
Both are production machines and cannot easily be restarted.
There is no Windows network, Active Directory or Windows domain in our network.
We created a SMB and AFP share on the file server which is a member of the Open Directory. (It is bound and kerberized to server 1).
The users all have accounts in the OD system and all passwords are Open Directory. Our users can ssh into the various xserves (including the file share server 2) and authenticate against OD.
We made the shares available via smb under Protocols --> Windows File Settings. We turned the Windows Service on in Server Admin. I'ts a standalone server and all the authentication types are checked under access.
The MAC (powerbook) users can access the share fine. The Windows users can't. The Windows laptops can see the file share server (through search - not visable is Network Neighborhood) but when they try and connect they are presented by an authentication box that just keeps cycling over and over regardless of what the user types as user name & passwd.
I tried to access the smb share with my powerbook(10.4.4) and have the same issue. I'm presented with an authentication box but authentication fails.
The Windows File Service Log shows:

I've googled this error and it seems that there a lot of engineers out there with the same problem but no answers. Could this be a bug with Apple's SMB process? Is there something I've missed? (I've looked at the smb.conf and have even turned off deny clear text passwords - I've even tried granting guest access) Anyone have any ideas?

On the server itself, run the following in the Terminal:
    (from a few different sources):
run ps -auxw | grep Password
to see if Password service is running
Also check the logs in /Library/Logs/PasswordService
    Try: id username
and see if you get some info returned.
    Ex: id jimguy
You should get some info about uid, gid, groups.
    sudo killall -USR1 DirectoryService
Then try to login from a client machine.
    Be sure to re-issue
    sudo killall -USR1 DirectoryService
in order to stop the (far more) verbose logging.
Then check the logs in /Library/Logs/DirectoryService
In Open Directory, you might want to revert to standalone (this will destory the existing OD setup) and then re-promote to OD Master. You'll lose all OD users however when doing so. If you don't have many, this may be best.
You'll want to verify the hostname, and forward & reverse DNS lookups before re-promoting, and watch for any errors when promoting to OD master
See, when you say "The real clue is that I'm unable to access the shares from my Powerbook G4 with my Open Directory account. I can log in to the file share as the local admin though and that's why I'm thinking there is a bug in the samba/OD relationship. " - that's the real clue indeed.
The local admin account, the first admin account you setup on the server, is indeed local, and resides in NetInfo, not Open Directory.
So something is afoul in your OD.

  • Mac mini (late 2014) calendar bug

I purchased a late 2014 mac mini and I found the black dot (for indicating the app is running)  for calendar app disappeared when I closed it with the red cross. I checked the activity monitor and the app is still running in background. It's not a big deal but I don't have this bug for my 1st generation 13' retina macbook pro and my roommate's 15' retina macbook on yosemite. I just wonder if anyone have the same issue or it's just me. Thank you very much!

What issue? You closed the app so it is not running.
Click on the app to open/run the app. It still shows in Activity monitor since it runs in the background for notification and updatingvia iCloud syncing

  • Mac mini and mouse: Curious bug

My Mac mini shows a quite curious bug. When I move the mouse while logging off an user - whether an admin or one with restricted rights - the mouse freezes. I have to log in and off again to make the mouse move again. I changed the mouses and re-installed the OS. It didn't fix the bug. Has anyone an idea how to solve this problem?
    Message was edited by: Malah

    Hi there,
I am also having bizarre freezes of the mouse (wireless USB Microsoft (yuk) which had been fine. The mini, however, has been weird anyway lately. I had to "zap" P RAM something not done since golden days ) to get the external firewire drive to mount again...I am now running a 7 port hub(firewire and Usb) (iogear) and all is working well . Mouse , however is plugged right into the USB port on Mac Mini . It also seems to not be playing well with Firefox version 2 (disn't do the FF 3 update yet because I was already having problems)...
I'd say I'm getting mouse freezes every time I leave the computer for more than 10 minutes. There seems to be some relationship with "sleep' too...running 10.4.11 and have it set NOT to sleep because of this, but it does anyway and then freezes and won't wake up (after left on for a while). I have run all the utilities including Onyx & they say all systems GO.. I do plan to work on it via Disk Warrior by connecting it to the G5...
Any ideas? I use a satellite ISP...This started to happen about a month ago...all of this sleep, freeze, missing port behavior...I have a lot of plugins for firefox as I'm an active twitterer (using TWhirl). so there are a bunch of new apps and online apps I'm beta testing too...there may be something here !
    Thanks so much.
    best to y'all
    Liz

  • Mac requirements for running shockwave

What does a Mac need to successfully run a Shockwave program
    made in
Director? I've got a Mac with OS X version 10.3.3 running
    Safari 1.2.1,
and when I try to run a Shockwave file all I get is an error
    box that
says "unable to load plug-in" even though I've already loaded
    the
    plug-in manually.
On another Mac, though, I've got OS X version 10.4 running
    Safari 3.1,
and the Shockwave program runs like a champ. I'm just not
    sure what to
tell my client are the minimum specs for Mac users.
    Thanks.

  • Mac projection problem : requiring shockwave plugin ?

    Hi,
I have made a really small application with Director, as a Mac projector.
With some Macs (os 10.5 or 10.6) a popup appears asking to install the shockwave plugin.
I thought that it wasn't required with a projector. ?
And funny thing, the url provided to download the plugin is not correct.
my movie contains these xtra :
    INet PPC
    NetFile PPC
    NetLingo PPC
    BitmapFilters
    Buddy api
    Core Audio Mix
    please help !

You're right - shockwave shouldn't be needed (although installing it can sometimes repair various projector ills).
I had this happen unexpectedly to me recently, and I tracked it down to the name of the CD that the projector was written to - it had some non-ASCI accented characters in it (an "é" I think). So are there any disc and/or folder names in your projector's path that use accented or non-ASCI characters?

  • 10.5.2 and .Mac sync - is this a bug ??

I just updated from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 today. Now I get this .Mac sync icon in the top menu. I never have a .Mac account and I certainly do not use the .Mac sync application as such.
So, why is this icon now showing up in my menu bar? When I click on it, I have two options - Sync Now and Open .Mac Sync Preference which they both don't work. When I try to select 'stop .mac sync' from system preference, it complains I do not have a .mac account.
How do I get rid of this? This is so frustrating.
    Please help!

i did a little more research and found a similar thread on this topic. a user named Diana provided a solution by going into iSync.

  • If I install lion on my Mac, will it fix the bugs that I have from tiger?

I have some small bugs that have crept into my system in the last little while, and am not positive on where they came from.  One that I just found is themes in iPhoto are missing or not available.  If I was to install lion on my Mac, would it possible fix these little bugs, or do I have to do something mo intense than this.  I am no where near an expert on the Mac, so I don,t want to get into searching through folders to find out what the bugs might be, hoping that installing lion would be an easy fix for this.

No. iPhoto is not included with OS X. Furthermore, if you have a system not working properly then upgrade it to a newer OS X version you will likely introduce more or worse problems. I would repair the drive and permissions then consider some maintenance alternatives.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Tiger Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation.  TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible;  Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided.  Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.  Other utilities are also available such as Onyx, Lion Cache Cleaner, CockTail, for example.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Backuplist
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    iBackup
    JaBack
    Silver Keeper
    MimMac
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    SuperDuper!
    Synchronize Pro! X
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.

  • Mac Mini remote administration (vnc) bug on 10.8.3

    Hi,
I updated my Media Center PC (Mac Mini late 2012) to 10.8.3. If the TV is not switched off I normally control my mini with the build in remote controlling tool from my Macbook pro or iPad. Bug since 10.8.3 the windows will not refresh itselfs. I have to move the window or "wipe" with the mouse the areas i want to see. Its hard to explain so I made a Video.
It also happend with Teamviewer and Splashtop.
If the TV is on and switch on the Macmini imput there is no problem with vnc.
I hope you can help me.
    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SzsAKOhovBg

Yes I sometimes see the same issue. I believe it is due to when the display (i.e. TV) being turned off this means the video card in the Mac no longer gets a signal and it then shuts down, the Mac becomes 'headless'. This means all the screen display is (I believe) solely being stored and processed in main memory and not by the video card and the correct redrawing of objects on top of objects like a window on top of the desktop suffers.
If you drag a window arround it will force a redraw of what is behind it and moving a window in to the background and then back to the front will redraw the window. However other than leaving the TV on all the time, the only truely effective way to stop this is to use a Gefen DVI Detective Plus or HDMI Detective Plus these learn the signal from the display and then will continue to send that signal to the Mac even if the display is turned off or completely disconnected. The video card then stays active and the problem does not occur.
    See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/ext-hdmi-edidp.jsp?prod_id=8005
This also stops the audio signal also switching back to the built-in speaker from the HDMI interface. If the Mac no longer thinks the HDMI is active it would otherwise switch the audio back to the built-in speaker.

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Mac/FireFox Java/JavaScript interaction bug

    Hi,
I'm desperately trying to find a solution to a very platform-specific issue. Basically, I'm trying to get an applet to interact with the DOM of a web page. The basic procedure should be as follows:
    1) Page loads
    2) Applet loads
    3) Applet reads in data file (as specified by parameter in object tag)
    4) Applet sets title of document to contents of datafile
    5) Applet sets flag to indicate that it's finished
    6) Javascript checks flag regularly
    7) When applet flag is set, JavaScript transfers the title to the body (using a div and changing the innerHTML property)
This works perfectly on most platforms (FF2/PC, FF3/PC, IE6/PC, IE7/PC, Safari/Mac) but for some reason FF/Mac isn't working. Or rather it is, but only about once per 50 attempts.
I had read that having an applet inside a <div> tag was a problem for FF/Mac, so I moved it outside, but it's still not working. Most of the time the applet is simply failing to set the title.
I'm using Eclipse for development, and the following libraries:
    java.net.URL
    org.w3c.dom.html.*
    com.sun.java.browser.dom.*
The Java code in question is as follows:
    DOMService serv = DOMService.getService (this);
    dummy = (String) serv.invokeAndWait (new DOMAction () {public Object run (DOMAccessor accessor) {HTMLDocument website = (HTMLDocument)accessor.getDocument (FeedApplet.this); website.setTitle(docstring); return website.getTitle ();}});
Any help would be much appreciated - thanks!
    Andrew

Thanks for your replies. Sorry for being a bit vague - it was an end-of-the-day-end-of-my-wits posting!
baftos, I've tried replacing the init() routine with a start() routine, but this hasn't changed anything. The problem appears to be with the Javascript timing, in that it's assuming the applet has finished before it has actually finished.
jschell, step 4 appears to be the one that's failing. The title isn't being changed, but usually the taskbar says that the applet has started (occasionally it comes up with a NullPointerException). The system just seems to wait for a long time and nothing happens. The Javascript checks every second to see if a $ symbol (which is effectively the trigger) has appeared in the title, and if so then it moves the contents of the page from the title to the holding div. The flag in the applet is reset on starting the applet, and accessed through a get-type method, so it shouldn't be cached.
It works in OmniWeb and Safari on a Mac, and IE/FF/Opera on a PC, so it's very specifically rooted in the FF/Mac problem zone.
