Mac OS 10.9.3 - password needed to change files names and location

Hi,
How can I unlock my documents, and the all functioning process of my mac OS 10.9.3. In fact, each time I need to change a file to another location, or if I need to change it's name, I need to insert the password . The message "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password..." appears envy time.
How can I make it stops?
Thank you.
Isabel

  • SBS 2011 - Need to change Machine name and IP address range

We had upgraded to SBS 2011 and new hardware 6 months ago, we have recently been aquired by a larger company and want us to comply with their machine naming conventions and change the IP address range to fit in with their corporate structure.  They
will be supplying us with a 2011/2012 Domain controller, this is to be added to our existing network as the primary DC supplying DNS, DHCP, WSUS
We use our SBS box for DNS, DHCP, Exchange, File server, Print server
How difficult is this going to be?  Is it actually possible, or do we need to wipe the SBS box and install from scratch?Any help on this matter would be appreciated

As said, you can't change the name of the server or the domain, but you can change the IP addresses.
The bad news is that you can't integrate SBS to a larger corporate network. SBS needs to be at the root domain of the forest and hold all FSMO roles, and it can't have any trusts.
If the corporate wants to bring in a DC of their own AD domain and wants all clients to be joined to that domain, you just can't use SBS anymore, it won't fit in. You need to inform your corporate IT about the situation, and you need to make a new plan.
You will need some kind of migration from SBS to standard products first before you can join to the corporate network structure.

  • Need help changing Wifi name and password.

I want to change my home wi-fi and password, so I need to go to the servers IP address.  But Safari says it can't connect to the server.  I've deleted cookies, etc to no avail.  Is it a problem on the side of the server?  Do they just have a firewall against outsiders (so they can't change their wi-fi info)?

Why don't you read the manual for your WiFi access point/router...

  • Need to get file name and directory back from file adapter - WRITE

I am using the file adapter to write a file. I want to log the file name of the file we just created. Since we use a precise timestamp in the file name, I can't accurately guess.
I have an invoke in my BPEL process to the file adapter. My first try was to assign the jca.file.FileName property to a variable, but it never comes back. I looked around and saw plenty of ways to SET the file name for a write and GET the file name for a read, but no GET file name for WRITE.
    Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

I think I got your point... You can tell FileAdapter the filename to write, but if you don't then FileAdapter can not tell you the filename that it wrote... I think it is pretty possible Oracle didn't implement the latter, as the write operation is probably asynchronous and the filename is calculated later on...
If what you want is just log, you may achieve your requirement by increasing verbosity on Adapter logs... Have a look at the link bellow...
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E15586_01/integration.1111/e10226/ad_mon.htm#CJHHBBID
Otherwise, the solution for you will be to calculate filename yourself, and that will be a little bit of reinventing the wheel... But at least you will know the filename...

  • "You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator"

I am suddenly getting this message when I try to copy a file from my new Macbookpro to my Powerbook running 10.4.9.
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named "file i am trying to transfer". stop continue
I hit continue and get the error message: "The item "that I am transferring" contains one or more items you do not have permission to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?
I say continue and get the error: "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient priveleges for some of the items."
My network was working fine until today. I can copy fine to all other computers on my network. But not this one.
If I initiate a transfer from the Powerbook, everything works fine.
    Ideas?

I experience the exact issue between a macbook pro and an iMac.
I can access the files locally on my macbook, copy them on usb-stick, etc.
but ... when I try to copy the files to my iMac ... it fails with the sequence of questions you mentioned.
    However!
I can copy whatever I like from my macbook if I use my wifes account.
    So...
Imho there is a problem when the SAME account is used on both systems.
In my case, I copied my account from the macbook to the (new) iMac.
Mac OS X seems to be confused when the same accounts are used.
    Does this makes sense?
    All help welcome.

  • When I try to install flash player on my mac, I get to the panel that asks for my name and password, and it will not take my password.  tried changing to a new password and same result

When I try to install flash player on my Mac, I get to the panel that asks for my name and password, but it will not take my password.  Tried changing the password, but same result.  Suggestions??

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.

  • LAN Networking / UUID error - "You may need to enter the name and password"

I'm having an issue with networking via ethernet cable. I'm connecting to Windows Vista via ethernet from my macbook pro.
Everything was going hunky dory until today when I connected and tried to copy a folder over from my desktop to a folder on my vista machine.
The error is a three tier one, as follows:
    1. +"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on the computer to change the item name "..." - stop or continue"+
    2. +"The item "..." contains one or more items you do not have permission to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?" - stop or continue+
    3. +"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."+
This happens with all files and folders that I try to transfer over. I have full permissions on both ends to do this and the folders have full permissions.
I've done a bit of trawling and have found out that if you goto: system prefs - accounts (click unlock) - right click on the user in question - advanced options, you can click on the "create new" button under UUID and create a new UUID digit, then restart. This works!!!!... But...
...it only works for a little while. After transferring a few folders or files accross, it comes up with the three tiered warning: "you may need to enter the name and... etc etc."
    This is really annoying.
I've found my initial answers on this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1823835&tstart=45, but this issue seems to go one step further by constantly not allowing me access
Has anyone got any thoughts about what I can do? I've also tried running applejack on startup, but this doens't work either...

Actually I get some other errors as well:
"You may need to enter the name and password..."
    Then I click continue...
"The item "filename" contains one or more items you do not have permission to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?"
    I click continue...
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
I am copying a text file made from textedit. I have logged into the shared drive on my iMac. I get the same errors coying to my own user folder. Same account on both machines.
But it does copy a blank version of the file to the drive and adds the .txt extension to it. Then I can delete it from the share.

  • "You may need to enter the name and password for an admin" ....

    Hi everyone!
I'm getting this error when trying to copy files over to a network drive. First, it'll pop up and say:
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named"
At the same time, it will create an empty file on the target drive. When I click "Continue", it asks me for my username and password, which I happily enter. At that point, it errors out and says "The operation cannot be completed because an item with the name "xyz" already exists".
I've tried repairing permissions, chmod 777'ing a file, etc. It did work for a short time (it seemed to work while I was at work, but once I arrived home, it quit working and hasn't worked since.) I've tried rebooting as well.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm really puzzled over this!
    Thanks!

  • Help with "You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator

I'm trying to move files from one of my external harddrives to another external harddrive. I keep getting this message "You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named "Documents". I also get this for other folders I want to move, but not all folders on that drive.
I am the administrator, and it only gives me an "ok" button, no option to enter my name and password again.
    Any ideas?

I have the same problem, trying to copy items from external hard disk to another computer on the network. I can copy without problems from external hard disk to my laptop. But not from external hard disk to another computer on the network, and neither from my laptop to another computer on the network, but ONLY if the files I try to copy from my laptop were first copied from that external hard drive. It keeps popping me up with this message. Please help, or fix.

  • I have changed the name and password for my Time Capsule and now the Time Machine will not connect

    Mac Book Pro
    1TB Time Capsule.
Yesterday I changed the name and password on my time capsule and also the name and password of the wifi network as I was having problems with the speed of the internet when using Safari on any of my devices (1 Macbook pro, 1 macbook air, 27" iMac, iPhone and iPad) all other internet services were working fine (email etc.) This seems to have solved the problem.
However, since then, my time machine back ups will not reconnect and there is no option for me to reconnect to the existing back up for my macbook pro.
When I enter the time machine preferences it shows as below that there are no back ups.
Then, when I go to select a drive to use which should be the MacBook under the Backup disks the only option is for me to Remove Disk...
So, my question is, how do I reconnect to an existing Time Machine back up for my MacBook pro as I really do not want to erase and start all over again.
Warning - In my naiveté, I did click on the MacBook in 'Available Disks' but I got the impression that it was about to start a whole new back up and not work with the existing one.
(And does anybody have an inkling as to why there was a problem with Safari on all my devices? I downloaded Google Chrome and that worked fine).

    Simply reset the Time Machine.
    See A4 here http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
You can then mount the TC disk in finder after you reboot the computer.
You should be able to reselect the TC disk and then it will say it is going to start a new backup.
Ignore this.. when the TM actually loads the TC disk it will discover the existing backup and continue the backup.. but it will give no hint until it actually starts that it won't start a new backup. you just have to believe it won't.. and mostly it works..
Please also install the widget A1 so you have some idea what TM is doing.

  • I have the jetpack wifi and someone told me I need to change the name to FBI Surveillance Van so others would think twice before using it how do i do it?

I have the jetpack wifi and someone told me I need to change the name of it to "FBI Surveillance Van so that people would not try to tap onto it. How do I accomplish this?

Changing the SSID is a good idea, but I do not suggest changing it to something so troll enticing as "FBI Surveillance Van".  A SSID like that is only going to draw attention to you and your network and challenge malicious users to target you.  I advise not putting a target on your back and stick to a custom but not well known SSID.
I normally suggest broadcasting an SSID of something a little less confrontational.  Something like combining your favorite color with your favorite sports team.
All jetpacks are a little different but they should all have a way to sign in and complete configuration changes.  If you connect to your Jetpack and look up the IP Address of your Default Gateway you will know the IP of the Jetpack.  Plug in the IP Address of the Jetpack into a web browser and sign in with the admin password.  Review the security options that are available until you find a SSID or broadcast name or network name field.
While you are at it you should also make sure you have a custom WiFi password configured with WPA2 security.  Custom WiFI passwords are going to be much more helpful than a creative SSID at keeping malicious users off your network.  Rule of thumb for WiFi passwords is the longer the better.
A good tool to evaluate your WiFi password is here (shoot for at least a few years):
