MAC OS 9.1 wont install on my imac

i have an imac (summer 2000) edition; mac os 9.0.4 and i am tring to update it but the last step before it can install it says,"MAC OS 9.1 must be installed from the CD when the Language Kit files are already installed."

Here is, maybe, the solution. I did it and it works. But, I have original Jaguar disk. So, you have to go to the page and to download standalone version of Recovery CD. Install it. After successful instalation, insert disk with Jaguar and follow instructions. You will get Classic Support on Mac 10.4.9! It does work like a dream!
Read first this article and try it!

    That's what we needed.
Officially your iMac--known as a "tray-loader" for its optical drive type--can go to Panther (10.3.X). Panther is quite better than Jaguar (10.2.8) that you now have. You probably need more RAM than 160MB for even Jaguar. I feel that 384MB is about min for that OS.
The big problem is that the early iMacs came with painfully small hard drives --4 to 6 G--and OSX need a lot of free space on the disk for efficient performance. It's hard to keep a Jaguar system under 2G with a few useful apps installed.
Bottom line: you'll spent money for a hard-to-find retail OS install disk, more RAM, and a bigger hard drive, and you'll still have a slow computer that will always struggle with modern web pages. If you want to upgrade and experiment as a hobby or learnign experience and you can afford the parts and time, by all means--go for it. However, if cost is an issue, throwing money at this unit is not cost-effective in terms of how much more yo ucan get from it.

  • Power mac g4 Agp ''sawtooth'' wont install 10.4.11

    hi
    i have a power mac g4 (AGP 400 mhz)
i boot into the 10.4 install dvd about 1/5 th into the install it says please try installing agian.
when i restart without the disk in it shows the flashing no os floder.about 5 seconds after that it shows the white screen with the can't boot icon.
it has no os's onit and i plan to dual boot 10.4 and linux.
    thanks.
also im not going to buying a new mac unless its dead because i love it! + im broke if its dead my budget is £75

Has this Mac ever had OS X installed? If not, it needs a firmware update prior to installing OS X.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1395 The firmware update is installed while booted into OS 9.
Is your install DVD black or gray? A black installer is a retail version that you need. A gray installer is Mac model  specific & will only work on the Mac that it came with.

After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US

  • Mac OS 9 will NOT install on 350MHz iMac

recently i acquired an old imac g three, and it has 256mb of ram and it had a password set on it so i decided to format the disk and installed 10.2 on it. turns out in order to install panther i need to install the firmware update so i have to make a partition of os 9 and install it. problem is the computer will NOT RECOGNIZE THE DISC. i have tried holding c, holding option, and formatting at least three times (while checking install mac os 9 drivers) to install the outdated abandonware and IT DOES NOT WORK.
could it have to do with the pram battery being out? i know some people who have this problem however. it's very annoyig and i just want to get this thing back on its feet.
thank you if you can help.

The 350 MHz iMacs built between Oct. 1999 and July 2000 (model identifier PowerMac2,1) originally shipped with OS 8.6.  These came in six colors:  Blueberry, Grape, Strawberry, Tangerine, Lime, and Graphite.  You need a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on this iMac.
The 350 MHz iMacs built between July 2000 and Feb. 2001 (model identifier PowerMac2,2) did ship with OS 9.0.4.  These came five colors:  Indigo, Ruby, Sage, Snow, and Graphite.  You'd need an OS 9 original disk for these machines or a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on it.
Apple made hardware specific original OS install disks for each model of iMac that shipped.  If you put these original disks in a machine that didn't have the correct hardware, they wouldn't work.  So you may have a copy of OS 9 that was shipped with a different version of the iMac you have.
You can check eBay for retail copies of OS 9.
All that being said, it might just be the PRAM battery.
    Good luck.

  • Office mac 2011 dmg file wont install

Hey, we brought our first mac the other day so are not too familiar with it, i need microsoft office for work purposes so we purchased it downloaded the file which is X18-08827.dmg  it is refusing to open and start installing and when double clicked comes up with a box saying "following disk images couldnt be opened"  "reason -  not recognised"
I have tried going to the security settings and allowing all programs to be opened but this has still brought no joy
Hope someone can be of assistance

Simply re-download it from Microsoft's website. If  it doesn't install then the issue is probably a Microsoft issue. You can locate the download at:

  • Yosemite wont install on my iMac and every time i restart my iMac it goes back to installing

I had an iMac that was running really slow and had lots of useless junk on it so I decided to get the newest operating system and have everything erased. I went ahead and began to install Yosemite but every time the situation would result in the same way, "There was a problem installing Mac OS X Try reinstalling." I tried many times to go into recovery mode but it would just take me back to the Yosemite installation. Please help me and Thank You...

Exactly which iMac model do you have? The following explains how to find it.
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Post the result here:
To post screen shot do this:
Press COMMAND-SHIFT-4 which will change the cursor to crosshairs.
Hold down the mouse button and use the crosshairs to select the part of the screen you wish to capture.
Release the button and the image will be saved to your Desktop.
Click on the Camera icon in the toolbar of the forum message editor.
Drag the image onto the Choose File button and click on the Insert button.

  • Prohibitory Sign on Mac OS 10.3.9 installed onto an iMac 350MHz

    Hi.
    Mi name is Jose Blanco.
I have an iMac 350MHz which has the Mac OS 10.3.9.
Six mounths ago I installled a new hard drive into this computer and I installed a fresh Mac OS 10.3 onto it.
Yesterday (august, 9) this computer showed the prohibitory sign, consequently I've installed the operating system again and the computer has worked fine until today, that it showed the same issue.
    Thanks for everything.
    Jose Blanco

    Hola Jose!
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
    Have you run Repair Disk?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert your Mac OS X CD-ROM disc or Restore DVD disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
8.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
9.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
10.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.
    Have you run Repair Permissions?
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP until the only message it reports is:
"We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/cd9660.util.
    New permissions are 33261"
This is a status message and not a cause for concern. You may safely ignore it.
    Or these:
"We are using a special uid for the file or directory ./private/var/at/jobs. New uid is 1"
"We are using a special uid for the file or directory ./private/var/at/spool. New uid is 1"
Again, these are status messages, which appeared after Security Update 2005-001.
There may be others that you can ignore. Complete list at link below.
    Spurious Permissions Errors Using:
    Panther 10.3.x
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".
If neither of those corrects it, Reset The PRAM & NVRAM.
    How To
    1.Shut down the computer.
2.Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3.Turn on the computer.
4.Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5.Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6.Release the keys.
    Good Luck!

  • FCP Express HD wont install on a iMac w Intel, what can I do?

I have this friend of mine that recently bought FCP Express HD 3.5 and a Imac with Intel Core Duo.
He had several issues when installing and the application doesn't open, it gets a message that the AGP Graphics card is not the indicated for the app.
Do you know what can we do? Is there an update to resolve this problem?
    Thank you
It has Tiger, the most recent update, 1.3 Ghz, 512 RAM, QT 7 Pro.

If it IS FCE 3.5 and he HAS an Intel Mac that message WILL NOT appear.
It seems most likely that he is using FCE 3.0 HD which WILL produce that message.
Can you check the exact computer and the exact version of FCE?
    Ian.

  • Elements 11 wont install in Lion

    Hi,
My recently purchased PSE 11 wont install on my imac running Lion.
It says I need to D/L adobe application manager however when I do this, that installs but when I attempt to install PSE again, it brings me back to telling me I need AAM again ?
    Its driving me crazy
    Any help please ?
    Greg

Thanks for your reply however I did DL the trial file from Adobe, which as you said, is the same as my CD/ version but the installer throws the "you need to install Adobe Support Assistant" message first.
I've pull that down too but it finds no errors on the install log ?
I'm wondering why this software installation is not just an easy step.
I'm not too computer code savvy so coukld really use some help here.
    Thanks
    Greg

hi im having huge problems trying to install flash for my mac 10.5 imac, iv gone through the internet and tried all of the solutions, everytime i try to install flash it says cant read the download file, or it just wont install, anybody plz help!
iv unistalled flash, iv checked plug ins it just wont work,

It would have been a great help to know precisely what Mac you have, so some of the following may not apply:
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.
(If you are running Mavericks: After years of fighting malware and exploits facilitated through Adobe's Flash Player, the company is taking advantage of Apple's new App Sandbox feature to restrict malicious code from running outside of Safari in OS X Mavericks.)
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC (G4 or G5) Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
You can also try these illustrated instructions from C F McBlob to perform a full "clean install", which will resolve the "Blocked Plug-in" message when trying to update via the GUI updater from Adobe.
Use the FULL installer for 12.0.0.44:  Flash Player 12 (Mac OS X)
And the instructons are here: Snow Leopard Clean Install.pdf
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, try the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the version 11.5.502.55:)
Download this http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • My Mac book pro (2011) start-up goes straight to disk utlities and wont install mavricks.

    Hello,
         My mac boook pro 2011 wont start up to my internal harddrive. it will sit on the white screen for a bit before it takes me directly to the choose language then disk utlity and shows the;
    Time machine
    install osx
    get help online
    disk utlity
Ok so my harddrive is partitoned into two, but everytime i try to delete the partition drive, it wont let me. says (Macintosh HD2 cannot unmount please try again). And everytime i try to earse the free space, it wont do it as well. but its says it did.
Then i try to repair my disk but my verify/repair disc permissions is not choosable but the veriy/repair ARE choosable. i choose verify/repair option and it says everything is fine. but it still wont let me choose verify/repair disk permission. My Saftey Mode is not working ( circle with line through) so i cant fix that problem. I also done the reset PRAM/NVRAM and SMC and still nothing.
Ok the problem goes further. my Mac book pro came installed with Snow Lepord not mavricks but it wants to install mavricks instead. I put my internet into some single thing and it switched it to Lion instead of mavricks. but that isnt the problem (just thought it was weird how it switched OSX system like that) the problem is that it doesnt want to download install any OSX system. First it didnt let me get pass the choose install drive wondow. , then i switched my date in the terminal and was able to sign in but it wont download any OSX system, it would say (Something came up, please try again). My install cd wont work, keeps spitting it out. And trying to do an OSX system download wont work through this browser on disk utltity (not enough space on the drive).
I was deleting log files from my mac through the partitioned drive and i accidently deleted a system folder that had logs. i was wondering if this was the problem and if its making my HD fail ir is my HD done? and can i put Yosemite on a usb and boot it that way or burning it to a CD and doing a cd install?
Please i need help becuase i use my mac for film and editing and my mac wont boot to the desktop, just to this window. ill try to post picutres of what happens.

That you are getting the BONG is a good sign, it's unlikely to be hardware if you are able to hear that.
Start by running SW update. It's not that there is a specific fix, but when updating it may rewrite some system files which may get this going again purely as a side affect. Worth a go, and should not harm the system.
Try reset the PRAM - Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Hopefully one of these quick fixes works, otherwise we'll need to try isolate the issue next - so if still having a problem, I'd try create a new user and login as that user to see if the issue persists (which will tell us if it's system wide or user specific)
