Mac OS 9 Classic won`t open

I run Classic to run a scanner. It`s been working fine for 3 years, then when I try to open it, all I get is the window that Classic is starting but the blue bar doesn`t move and it doesn`t open. Called applecare, and they said I need to reinstall the operating disks. Will I lose all my installed applications, and anything else I have in the computer?
Also, I`m not familiar with the procedure to reinstall the disks. Help! Hopefully, there`s a way not to have to reinstall...

Classic comes as a separate installation somwhere on your Install-DVD/CDs. So if something is corrupted, i just would "iron it over" - reinstall classig from the DVD. Don't start your PB with the CD/DVD, but just insert it and look for something like "Classic install"
Installing it wont touch anything else but the Classic Installation, where you MIGHT lose some settings.

Classic won't open in Tiger 10.4.6

I purchased Tiger 10.4.6 from the Apple Store to fix another problem and installed it over 10.3.9. The first problem was solved, but now I can't open Classic. I've spent 4 days reading other posts related to this new problem with launching Classic, but nothing has worked. Classic does not come on the new single Tiger DVD I purchased. And I don't have access to my original OS disc that came with Dual 500 PowerPC G4. Classic 9.1 opened fine in 10.3.9. I have 9.1 installed on a second hard drive and I used to start 9.1 from there. With Tiger 10.4.6, the Classic window comes up and says Classic is starting, then just hangs. I have tried turning extentions off, rebuilding Classic desktop, but no change. Can I fix this issue without a OS9 disc to reinstall from? I downloaded the 9.2.1 update, but can't install it because Classic won't open. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

I was upgrading to tiger and just copied the the OS 9 System folder and the applications folder (Mac OS 9) to the new comp and well see for yourself, but read the messege board before trying. Later

Mac mail 4.5 won't open now 10.6.8 combo update installed

I have been having problems updating software and it was suggested that I installed the 10.6.8 combo update, this i have done and since then my mac mail 4.5 won't open - 'you can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X ' message!!
What is the simplest way of resolving this problem please?

I just updated to latest Firefox version and now it won't open at all. I even tried to go back to the previous version using Time Machine on my Mac and FF just won't open.

I upgraded to firefox 4.0 on my mac, and no it won't open at all and I have no other internet browser downloaded on my computer and I need help on how to get my internet access back.

The file format used by the iOS versions of the iWork apps can only be read by the new iWork apps on your Mac - i.e. Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. Those versions for the Mac require Mavericks, OS X 10.9. The "too old" error on a Mac comes if you are trying to open an iWork '08 or earlier file in the newest apps. If you do have the newest apps you can open the files from your iPad.
If you can't or don't want to upgrade to Mavericks & the newest iWork apps your best option would be to export/share the files from the iPad to a type an older version of iWork can read such as Word, text, Excel, etc.
Or contact AppleCare. They made this mess, let them fix it.

Pdf's from mac to playbook, reader won't open?

I saved pdf files from mac to documents folder on playbook , I launch acrobat reader, I see pdf files but when i try to open, an error message appears that says "file path not valid". Can anyone shed some light on this?

go into the option ( the gear at the top right ), then in security/applications and change the Adobe reader permission to ALLOWED, and it should fix your problem

Mac Pro optical drive won't open - it could be virtualbox!

I use Virtualbox to check websites in IE and other windows browsers.
To get the optical drive to work in windows, I had to allow VB to "take over" the optical drive when VB was running.
So when my optical drive would not open this morning, and just before panic set in, I remembered that I had left VB running an hour ago, and was probably not letting me open my optical drive from Mac OS.
As soon as I shut down VB, I had full control of my optical drive again.

I'm having exactly the same trouble with my Pioneer BDR-208D (SATA). I have swapped bays and swapped drives with the earlier BDR-207D, but the same symptoms occur with both, so I do not believe it's a problem with the drive itself. It is as if power stops to the optical drive buses.
My machine is a mid-2010 model Mac Pro 2 x 2.4 Ghz quad core running OSX 10.7.5.
Any luck with the energy saver solution? I'm going to give that a try right now.

Upgrade to mac pro now FCP won't open files

Howdy, i have upgraded from a 20" imac to an 8 core mac pro with 10 gigs ram-1.82 Terra HD and now I can't open the files I was working on with the imac. I can launch FCP but once I try to open a file it crashes the program.
All software is up to date (OSX 10.5.2, FCP 6.0.3).

I have also called tech support and they suggested I reinstall the entire FCS1 & 2 software so I did. Everything seems to be running properly now.
I've learned that using migration assistant isn't such a good idea for FCS but it did save me a lot of time on my other programs so it was helpful.
I appreciate everyone's help and wanted to post what I've learned in case somebody else has had this problem.

Student Office:Mac 2008 - Office applications won't open.

I bought Microsoft Office Home and student edition 2008 about a month ago, It was working fine up until today. I registered my product but the set-up assistant keeps popping up. I cannot use any of the applications without the notification box appearing. I've tried removing and reinstalling the program twice and the same thing keeps happening. If anyone has a solution please let me know!

Since Office is not an Apple product, you should really consider posting issues with Office on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products as they would be focused more toward the issue than an Apple forum and there are Microsoft appointed MVPs there to assist.

I have downloaded 5.0 for Mac today and it won't open but says it's open. It also won't quit so I can re-start. Cannot use!

I can't launch the new 5.0. It won't quit from the dock either so I can restart and I'm unable to use it. I've used Firefox for years so I know how to use the program.

when you have booted into OSX go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and choose your OSX partition as the default startup.
Do the needed restart and your iMac should boot into OSX without the Option key.
As for your Windows installation: was it ever successful or did the black screen error message came up during installation ?

Iphoto on mac mini: wheel spins, won't open

Can anyone suggest what I can do for iphoto...wheel spins, can't get past that to open, download photos. Just locks up.

what version of iphoto did you have?
And no - iPhoto is not a part of Mavericks or of any OS - it is totally seperate - You may need to update (if you own any version of iPhoto '11) or purchase an upgrade (if you own older versions of iPhtoo) from the app Store
ANd of course using iPhoto is totally optional - you can download photos using image Capture (in your applications folder) or the fnder for most cameras and if you have a card reader using the finder and then use any photo management software you choose

You may be able to get round the legacy JAVA requirement as follows:
Create empty folders at “/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk” and “/System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle”, to make Illustrator use Jave SE 8 as it should.
