Mac OS 9 on Intel Mac OS X system?
I have FileMaker 5 Pro that needs to be installed on our new iMac.
It's an Intel x86 system.
How can I get Mac OS 9 applications to work on our new iMac running Mac OS X ?
Short answer: You can't. Buy an older Mac that supports OS 9 booting or Classic mode with OS X 10.4 or earlier.
Longer answer: There are third party OS 9 emulators that run on Intel Macs. One of them allows one to run OS 9.0.4. But these generally require one to have an OS 9 boot ROM image, and AFAIK there's no way to get one of these that complies with Apple's licensing requirements, other than buying an older Mac that supports OS 9 booting. As such it is against this forum's Terms of Use to discuss it further here. Google is your friend.

I just had the same problem, I've updated to 10.6.8 yesterday, and since then the browsing are very slow, no matter what broswer I am using, the upload download speed are still the same. But browsing just take forever, It takes for example google.com 30 seconds to load. I have Extream high speed internet connection, 3 other computers, and the only one is having this problem is the Mac after the update.
Something in this update screwed my browsing capabitilties, I tried downloading Crome browser, same issue.
I hope there is a way beside TimeMachine to revert the latest update. I don't want to reformat as I am sure as soon as I am going to do the update it will cause the same problem.

My recent purchase of QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X upgrade doesn't do "screen record" on my Intel Mac Pro with system 10.6.8. Apple won't accept responsibility and refund my money.
QuickTime 7 doesn't offer that, but the built-in QuickTime X Player does. You may find another use for the key.

I am having trouble setting up icloud on MAC. In system preference it is listed as mobile me, it asks for member name and password. It also has a learn more button under "try mobileme for free". I am not getting anywhere
It's evident that you are using Snow Leopard or earlier (or very early Lion) since you have the now obsolete MobileMe preference pane.
The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)

Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). If you are running Leopard on an Intel Mac you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard to access the Mac App Store - it's available in the online Apple Store. However if you have a PPC Mac you cannot run Snow Leopard and cannot proceed further. -
Hello i am using TimeMachine to back-up entire Mac image (data + system) on an usb-local drive. I would like (on top of it) add a specific plan to back up some files on a remote network drive. Does TimeMachine support multiple back-up plans ? How ?
Time Machine is capable of backing up to multiple locations, and can be used to back up to both a local hard drive and a networked drive (provided that that drive is in or connected to a Time Capsule or another Mac that is sharing it over the network). The catch, though, is that you can't specify different things to back up to different destinations. Whatever you exclude from Time Machine backups is excluded from ALL backups, and whatever is included is included on all.
So, get a large enough drive that you can back up everything you want in all locations, or use something else for maintaining the network backup.

Burning CD's in Mac 10.2.8 that read on a Mac 9.0 system
I have tried everything imaginable to burn CD's on my G-4 Mac, system 10.2.8 computer that are compatible with my husband's G-4 Mac 9.0 system. Nothing works. HELP!
I've tried burning in read-only. In compressed files. In PC files. in Mac-Standard files. and yes, I began with Mac-Extended files. NOthing works. I've looked at the Extensions Manager on his computer and everything is on.
Can ANYONE help me? Obviously, I'm not a pro. He refuses to update his system (does "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" ring a bell with you?!), so that's out.
I sure would love someone's advice!

I found a eBay store selling what appears to be a Power Mac 5260/120 System CD containing Mac OS 7.5.3. Would this System CD also be compatible with a Power Mac 5260/100 by any chance? I'm asking because I happen to own a Power Mac 5260/100 I bought second hand off eBay.
I would think that there is a high probability it would work. If it's not too expensive, it's worth the chance of buying.

when i try to instal some programs, a popup comes up stating the following, "classic cannot find a Mac OS 9 system folder on the startup disk to use. You may need to install Mac OS 9.1 or later (classic support) on your computer. to select a system folder on a nother volume, click Open Classic Preferences." How do i solve this issue?

Firstly let me just say that I almost mistook you for my cousin, until I saw you are in Canada.
Anyway, the problem you are seeing is that the software you want to install requires the older Mac OS 9 system software and it seems that your PowerBook either did not come with Mac OS 9 or it has not been installed.
If your PB did not come with a copy of Mac OS 9 then you will have to purchase a separate retail copy (if it is still available). Otherwise you can install it from your installer discs.

I need to upgrade my 10.5.8 system to 10.6 before I can upgrade to Lion. I have a mac pro operating system disk for 10.6 can I use this?
No. The gray-colored restore DVDs provided with a Mac are not the retail OS version. They contain only the drivers applicable for the purchased hardware, and the installer has a function to verify the hardware is of the type the disk was created for. If you attempt to use the Mac Pro restore disk on a different model Mac, it will simply refuse to install.

I setup a .mac account and can sign in. However every time i try to use iphoto to upload an album I get the message that You must setup your .mac account in system preferences.

Can not remove mac osx base system drive
Hi folks..
Just trying to do a complete clean install of Mountain Lion. I booted up from a USB and erased the Macbook hardrive completely.
However I see a second drive/partition below that says 'disk2 - Mac OSX Base system' and it's about 2 gigs in size. I want to wipe and delete this too so that I will have just one single partion but disk utility will not letr me even touch it.
The 'erase' and Security options are greyed out and inactive and there is some text to the right that says: "This is the start up partition you can not erase it".
I don't see how it can be a start up partition as it's only 2 gigs in size and the main 750 gig drive has already been wiped.
How can i get rid of this drive/partition completely?
Thanks.That's Mt. Lion's Recovery volume which you could have used to erase the working volume and do a clean install of Mt. LIon. To get rid of it you may have to try to repartition the entire drive with Disk Utility.
Otherwise, reboot with the Command+R keys held down to boot into the Recovery volume. Once there run Disk Utility to again erase the working volume and then do an install of Mt. Lion. This method is much easier and quicker than doing it from the USB device.

How to get JAX-WS server to generate SSL endpoint URLs?
Working on a project which requires web services in an SSL environment. But the soap:address location attribute it creates is for http, not https. How do I configure jax-ws so that the wsdl it generates has the correct https urls? I do not explicitly
