Mac OS boots but is not visible

Hi,
I have the following problem:
From one moment of the other my screen froze and and I had to restart the MacPro (SnowLeopard). Since then I couldn't get back in the system. The problem is, it stops at the screen with the apple and the loading circle.
At first I thought there is something wrong with the system hard disk, but the "funny" thing is, that although the screen freezes while loading, the system completely loads - but I cannot see it. I only recognized it, because I saw the macpro in the network and I also can plug in my iphone and it starts syncing - but I still only see the apple screen.
btw: I wanted to try the disk tool from the install dvd - but I couldn't load the program. the mac always brings an error while the grey screen + apple and that I have to restart... I tried the same via USB - but it also doesn't work.
when I bring it in target mode - I have access to all hard disks - except the system disk.
Has anyone an idea what I could do?
Could it be something with the graphics?

You should be able to do either or both of these:
• Boot with the Shift key held down. This runs a disk check and then brings up the system in Safe Mode, with minimal extensions loaded.
• Boot from the Installer DVD, but do not install:
Hold down Option as you start up.
Wait for the screen to draw.
Press the Eject key to open the DVD tray.
Insert the Installer DVD and wait for it to be seen.
Select the Installer DVD and proceed.
Answer "what language" and wait for the MenuBar to be drawn.
Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Select your boot drive and click ( Repair ).

It won't show up on your Apple TV until it is fully downloaded into iTunes on your computer, have you done this.

This suggestion worked to see the hidden folder(s). Thanks very much, but I feel like I am miles away from moving my ipod music to my new computer and getting it all to work. Here is why...
1. First when I plug the ipod in, in disk mode, to the USB slot it shows up as a K drive for a minute or so and then disappears. itunes keeps opening, asking me to sync (which will erase all my music on the ipod!) and the K drive (ipod) vanishes.
2. I pod help says to drag the itunes file out to the desktop and then drag the itunes file on the ipod into the "my music" file within documents and settings. However, there is an "ipod control" file (was hidden) and within this there is the following: artwork, itunes (with 13 subfolders of its own), device, and music. So do I just drag the itunes file inside ipod control into My music? Or do I drag the whole ipod control file? or other?
3. Additionally there are K drive (ipod) files for calendar, photos, contacts, notes, and ipod control (was hidden). I don't care about any content in the first four, but are they needed to operate? Do I drag these over also to the My music file?

First, be sure that the contacts on the devices are in the "icloud" section and not the "On my iPhone" (or iPad) section of the contact listings/groups.
Missing contacts:
Here's a test to perform - using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com and go to the Contacts page. If most of them are gone, then they are gone.
If they show up, then the problem is that your device is not connecting to the Contacts database on icloud.
On the device, go to Settings>icloud. Be sure icloud is on and using the right ID. If not, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Delete Account - this just disconnects the device from that account, no data is lost. Then log back in using the correct ID. ALSO - be sure the Contacts are turned on (on the same screen).
Note: Contacts are not part of an iCloud backup, since they are part of contacts database on iCloud's servers. So performing a restore will not help.
Contacts are gone from icloud.com.
Then they have been deleted. There are many reasons for this. One possibility is that someone else is using the same iCloud account (family member, etc.) and they deleted contacts, thinking they did want them on THEIR device. How to get them back? Unfortunately, an iCloud backup does not include any of the sync databases, like contacts, notes, calendars, reminders, etc. because the data is already stored in these databases. Your only hope for restoring the data is if you had that data on a computer (like a mac's Contacts, Calendars, etc.) and that data was backed up using whatever backup software you typically use (e.g. Time Machine on a mac). Just restore the data files back to the computer. Other than that, I'm afraid the data is gone.

Ipod Touch charging but still not visible on iMac

Hi all,
first post here and looking for some wisdom.
I have an [I]iPod Touch[/I] that I have used with my [I]PC[/I] with no issues.
I now have an nice new shiny [I]iMac[/I] and want to play music as I work.
The problem is that when I plug my [I]iPod Touch[/I] into the [I]Mac[/I] it charges but is not seen by itunes.

Still no luck.
I don't want to sync it with the mac...yet ( in the process of decommissioning my PC. ), I just want to play music via my mac!
I have done a fair but of searching and everything points to the fact that this should not be a problem, but alas I can't see my itouch on the mac.
I have the itouch set to manually manage.
Any advice or help is appreciated.

My MacBook Pro is running on an older version of Mac OS X but will not allow me to upgrade to a newer version

My MacBook Pro is running on a 10.5.8 operating system but has not allowed me to upgrade. It has been fine for the past few years but is now getting to the point where programs are not functioning properly. What operating system should I be trying to upgrade to and what should I do in order for the upgrade to work? I have tried upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard but it says that I need 10.6 in order to upgrade to Snow Leopard. The only upgrade that has begun to work has been a 10.5.6 which is a less updated version of the operating system that I'm already using. Will downloading 10.5.6 allow me to upgrade to a better version? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and if desired, open the Mac App Store, and try downloading 10.9. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.

My mac is connected but will not display webpages

My mac says I'm connected to wireless interent, but will not display the webpage. It says that it is not connected to the interent. My hp computer is working though. Does anyone know what is causing it not to connect to the interent and what I can do to get it to connect?

Make sure in the network settings that you arent trying to connect to the internet through a Proxy server, unless you actually are of course. Make sure the connection you are using is set to get its IP address via DHCP automatically, and that the router you are connecting to is set up to do so.

Satellite A105-S4004, boots but will not run properly. Virus, malware issues.

The laptop is running XP and will boot but 'loops' with screen refresh. Geeksquad ran diagnostics and found many virus/malware/spyware issues but I figure I could resolve myself without additional expense.
Can't get anything to run except task manager. Used msconfig to try diagnostic startup but that didn't help. Will not boot in safe mode. Trying to salvage files (email, pix, financial records) so I am looking for suggestions. I have recovery DVD but have not tried for fear of losing files. I also have a stand-alone copy of XP and other computers to create any necessary disks, etc.

Two ways of reaching the data if your hard drive is alive.
(1) Download and burn an Ubuntu live CD, boot that, and transfer the files to an external medium. There's also KNOPPIX, Bart's, UBCD4Win, SystemRescueCd, and probably others.
(2) Remove the hard drive, mount it in an external enclosure, and access it from another computer.
If you need help locating particular files (e.g., email) let us know.

A few months ago I upgraded my N97 SW.
Im now on the following –
Software Version -V21.0.045
Custom version – 21.0.045.C01.01
Date 14-01-10
Model N97
Type RM-505
Language Set 15
A few weeks after this I started my maps (UAE) and although the GPS was working the maps were not visible.
If I start maps and goto options-->Shop --> My licenses
Its says that “Drive all regions” expired on 23/01/2010
I thought it was my SW upgrade that screwed up the maps but it looks like it’s the subscription.
Can someone confirm that this is the reason that my MAPS are not visible and what myoptions are for purchasing so that I can see where Im going?

Since you are already on v21, go to Menu>Apps>Software Update>And download the new Ovi maps 3.03 (free lifetime navigation).
After wards connect your phone to your PC via Ovi Suite and download the updated maps for your phone. These maps are updated every now and then (addition of more roads,new data, etc). Also updating the maps may render old maps incompatible with new app.

Got new computer installed LR but photos not visible

Hi,
I just got a new iMac and I installed LR 5.7 on the new system. The photos look like they are there because I see the folder structure and what looks like photo files but inside each photo box is a light gray box with a lighter number in it. The photo itself is not visible. How can I correct this? I still have all the original files on the old computer too if I need them.

Thanks for your response.. Since I posted the question I discovered that I can view the photos from the develop mode but not the library mode and that was making me think that the directory paths are still valid and correct. I also made sure that the permissions on all the LR files are read/write so I'm still stumped why I can't see the images from the library. Even if I click on them images from the library they still won't show up. The name of the file is there but the image itself won't show up. Am open to any ideas! I would just reimport them but I've already set hundreds if not thousands of keywords for the photos that are there which is about 170,000 photos total.

Mac Mail sends but does not receive

Big problem!
Just upgraded to Lion - and this problem was on Snow Leopard too - I tried to upgrade to sort this out!
Mail sends emails but does not recieve.
I own the server where it is trying to connect to - the emails are there - I can see them through webmail.
I have set up different email accounts on Mail and exactly the same for all domains and email accounts.
I have re-installed Mail - exactly the same happens.
I have used Thunderbird and it works!
So it has to be a Mail problem. Server is fine, OS is fine, other email is fine. Mail is the problem.
I think it has to do with keychain? Not sure though... I have tried literally hundreds of things but nothing works and I am at my wits end and run out of ideas!
Any suggestions would be warmly received!!

I have the same problem with my incoming mail. I talked to the folks at Frontier (my ISP). They verified that a
test message I had sent was received. All account info appeared to be ok. I click on "get mail" and I do not
receive any new incoming messages. All connections succeed Using Connection Doctor, although the connection to smtp.frontiernet.net spins quite awhile before succeeding.
While I was composing this reply, I decided to try to send a test message to my wife's account. It came
through ok. I think I might have to contact Frontier again on this. When I set her account up they gave me a
different Incoming Mail Server name to use: pop3.frontier.com, whereas mine is: pop3.frontiernet.net. I believe
new accounts are being assigned to: pop3.frontier.com.
Also, when I'm showing all inboxes, Mine all have a symbol after them that looks like a lazy z. I am not familiar
with this symbol, but since I'm having trouble, I suspect it is telling me something. Help on this??

Notes app opens but is not visible on Desktop?

My Notes app opens in Mountain Lion but does not show up on the desktop. It shows on my iOS devices. Any idea why I can't get it open to show on the desktop?

If you select Notes, does the menu bar appear at the top? If so, try making a new note and see if it appears.
I would also recommend running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions.
You can also try deleting Notes .plist from your user library. Hold down the option key while selecting the "Go To Folder" command it Finder and then selecting your library.
