Mac OS Combo 10.5.7 Update dated 7/10/09

In May, I downloaded the Mac OS 10.5.7 Combo Update. Today I noticed that there is a new Combo Update dated 7/10/09 that is labeled as the 10.5.7 Combo Update? Is this correct or is this latest update really the 10.5.8 update but with a wrong description?
If it is just another version of the 10.5.7 Combo Update, is it needed since I have the May version? Software Update doesn't mention a newer 10.5.7 update.

Here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/
It is right at the top and says:

  • Error downloading Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1

    Hi,
I'm trying to download of the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 but the file always comes corrupted.
I have tried the download from two diferent places but the error persist.
The downloaded file always have 1.7GB but the specified in the download page is 1.9GB.
And i get a error when i try to download by the Software Update.
    Any suggestions?
    UPDATE:
Reading More Like This links I see another users with the same problem.
I tried the download in another language (pt-BR) but the error persist.

    Hi,
Funny (though it wasn't at the time!) but I was initially experiencing the same problems: part downloads (file size mismatch) and download errors.
However, at the time I was accessing the same WiFi connection with a PC while I waited for the download.
Now, it shouldn't make any difference, I appreciate that, and I've downloaded items in the past where there was another 3 computers accessing the same wireless connection. In this respect It may be a coincidence.
However, after 4 failed attempts I decided to sever the link between the PC and the wireless connection (only allowing my Mac access) and I received the update with no issues whatseover.
If you also have multiple machines accessing the same wireless connection, it might be worth a shot.
    Best
    John

  • Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1

Does anyone know whether this combo update includes the software for 2011 iMacs in Mac OS X 10.6.7 Update for iMac (early 2011) 1.0? If so, it could save a friend from downloading and installing both.
    Thanks for any input

    Yes.

Has anyone been able to open Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 file?

No, I have not been able to open it either when downloading right off of Apple's Downloads website.  I keep getting the error
"The following disk images couldn't be opened"  Image: MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg ; Reason: not recognized.
Apparently people downloading it through Software update are not having a problem, but I need to keep the file so I can run it on multiple computers without having to re-download it.
Also, the file is only 1.07 GB, not 1.09 GB as advertised.
I'm experiencing the same situation here. Same error and file size.
To be accurate, the file is 1.071.015.728 byte and its MD5 hash is c1b40fabb9a8d2b21484546dbe86d446.
When I download the update at work (Modena, Italy) I keep getting this file, no matter how many times I try to download it, but if I download the update at home (Cento, Italy) the file is bigger and I can mount it without problems.
I asked two friends to try to get it and one of them from Reggio Emilia (Italy) got the right DMG, the other from Padova (Italy) got the corrupted DMG and the "not recognized" error. We have all different ISP so I can not tell if it's ISP related.
I may be wrong but couldn't it be that some server in the Apple's CDN has got the corrupted copy of the update and serves it to users requesting the file from some specific locations?
Anyway, I opened an incident with Apple through Express Lane that has now been escalated.
I'll report back their findings as soon as they reply to me.

I installed Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo) and when I rebooted I can no longer open Mail 4.2. I get a message saying the this version is not compatible with the OS. Any thoughts?
    Thanks for your help.

I didn't use the combo update, but when I went to 10.6.4 it automatically upgraded my Mail to version 4.3.
Why not try doing an upgrade of Mail?

  • Mac OS combo update - any probs for other macbk air users??

Hi, the recent update doesnt enable diskdrive sharing?
Is it an upgrade from mac os x 10.5.2, OR?
I'm a new macbk user, just barely 3 days old. One of the first things I got prompted was a software update for Mac OS combo and I did. Thot this would replace having to install using the cd-roms. Now when I want to install windows vista via bootcamp, I cant - cos I realise that I dont have the function to share disj, and I dont own one external diskdrive yet - thot I could do without...

a clean install and rebuild. is an exercise in futility. Apparently, you mucked things up. Boot with the disc that came with the MBA, follow the steps in your Everything Mac booklet to restore to factory condition, and on first boot use the Setup Assistant to migrate from the other MBA. Then, run Software Update.

  • I have no idea how to install the Mac OS X 10.6.1. update disc sent to me by Apple.

I was on the phone with Apple Support telling them about the MacBook I bought used for my daughter.  I wanted to reset it to "factory settings" and clear everything off of it. I thought I was doing everything that I supposed to be doing but when it came to connecting to the Apple Store to restore the OS I kept getting the error message that the product was temporary unavailable.  They didn't really have an answer for me so they sent me the disc. I have the disc but have no idea who to access it since I don't have what normally would be my OS screen.  I can see it in Disk Utility, but have no idea what to do from this point.
    My Macbook Model is A1181.

Boot from the Snow Leopard DVD:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

In the *Mac OS X 10.5.3* Update released today, iSync has been updated from v3.0 (568.0) to v3.0.2 (574.0).
No support for any new devices has been added. It's now 7 months since Apple last added any new devices to iSync.
There are no obvious changes in iSync 3.0.2 and nothing mentioned in the Mac OS X 10.5.3 release notes.
If anyone notices anything new, improved or updated, please post here...

The crashes you're experiencing could be caused by any number of different things, but one thing to check is whether you are using a Proxy server to connect to the internet. (Check in System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced). Some companies and many universities and libraries use proxy servers (automatic proxy.pac files) to let you access premium content from off-site. The OS 10.5.3 combo update seems to have introduced a compatibility bug that leads to crashes with proxy servers.
From your description, I can't tell whether this is what you're experiencing, but it may be related. So if you are using a proxy server, turn it off in System Preferences and try without.
If this indeed turns out to be the problem and you need to use a proxy server for work/research, then you should try Firefox (new version: Firefox 3 was just released last week) instead of Safari, and install one of the proxy extensions (e.g. FoxyProxy or SwitchProxy). Firefox handles proxies inside the browser (as opposed to the system-wide level, which is what Safari is doing). That allows you to switch your proxy server on and off. I've been using it with my proxy server and it's very stable. With FoxyProxy, you can even define site-specific browser behavior.

I am using the latest Safari 4 beta with 10.5.7, and X11 works fine. My guess is you installed the update on an already dysfunctional system. I suggest you may want to try the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now download the 10.5.7 Combo Updater from support.apple.com/downloads/ and reinstall the update.

  • Mac OS X 10.4.9 Update ... Decision

no im not panicking.... yet :P
i have yet to install Mac 10.4.9, And it came up on my software updater...
    what do i do?
i see all advanced user have the updated, and all newcomer have major crahes and never ending sleeps..
i really dont know what to do_ should i install it?
or something else, just ignoring it?
If you reccomend to intall it... how should i install it?
    if not why?

    what do i do?
Ultimately it's your choice. No-one here can guarantee you no problems problems. All you can do is do everything in your power to minimize the possibility of a problem.
i see all advanced user have the updated
How do you know that? I just checked the top 10 rated members here and only 2 of the 10 have clearly updated to 10.4.9. Irrespective of whether they've updated their profiles, you'll find that most of the "advanced" users take the steps to avoid issues as much as possible and they also take pre-emtive steps in case they do have issues.
If you reccomend to intall it… how should i install it?
Without a compelling reason not to, such as an application incompatibility, I do recommend users update even considering those who have had disastrous results. The thing is, in my experience the vast majoirty of issues are avoidable if you take the proper steps. The most important things you can to avoid complications are…
    1) Backup. The best type of backup you can do for system updates is a clone simply because it's really easy to go back to what you had before if things go awry. restoring your system back to its pre-update state is done with the minimum of time, effort and fuss. Even the best of us have issues with updates at one time or other and if we find that the update, for whatever reason or in whatever way, s*cked, blowing it away is easy.
    2) Repair disk permission in Disk Utility before and after updating.
    3) Restart immediately before updating.
    4) Having an appropriate amount of free space. Personally, I'd never do a software update with anything less than 5GB or 20% of your hard disk (which ever is greater) free. Doing an update with only the bare minimum of free space is asking for trouble and the larger the update the more free space you should have.
    5) Never open or use an application, more to the point, never do anything while your system is updating. You don't run your car's engine while changing the oil for the same reason. If you have important things to do they should wait to do them, else, wait to do the update when you have the time to do it properly.
    6) This is optional… download the combo version of the updater and install it manually. Doing this is often suggested as a troubleshooting action. Personally, I don't ever use Software Update for system updates rather, I do this.
    7) Disconnect or turn off as many peripherals, FireWire and USB, as you can.
    8) Listen to your system. If it's flakey before you update then your system is more than likely to be flakey after the update. A hugely unstable system is not one you should update but one you should erase and start over.

  • Can i use 'iGetter' (a third party download accelerator) to download Mac OS X v10.7.4 update?

can i use 'iGetter' (a third party download accelerator) to download Mac OS X v10.7.4 update? im running 10.7.2

Third party download manangers usually end up causing problems when downloading apps from the App Store.
Try installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo)
That will update your Mac to v10.7.4 but be aware that file size is 1.4 GB.
Bear in mind, if at some point you need to reformat or repair the startup disk or reinstall the Mac OSX, you would need to use Lion Recovery which requires broadband access to the Internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection

  • HT4150 have MAC OSX 10.6.4 which update do I need? 10.6.4 or 10.6.5?

have MAC OSX 10.6.4 which update do I need?

If you run Software Update (on the Apple menu) it will show you the latest updates for all your Apple software. And since the latest update for Snow Leopard is 10.6.8, it will most likely offer to install the 10.6.8 "combo" updater (rather than a series of the in-between ones like 10.6.5 through 10.6.7).
It also should automatically check for other updates after installing any that are prerequisites for other updates (like the Java security fixes that require 10.6.8). If not, keep running it until it says your software is up to date or it only lists things you do not want.
This is by far the easiest way to keep your Apple software up to date. It is a good idea to do that because it increases the security of your data & often patches bugs or adds new minor features to your Apple software.

  • Re-install Mac OS X 10.6.7 update?

    Hi @all
I was just wondering as I have a couple of problems with the latest Mac OS X 10.6.7 update if it is possible to re-install this update? When I updated from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 my MB froze and I had to force it to shut down. Since then I have some minor problems. If the re-install is possible which 10.6.7 update should I use (the combo or normal version?) and can I just start the 10.6.7 update without having to consider anything else?
    Thanks for your help.

You can apply the 10.6.7 combo update without any other consideration.  Obviously you should have a good backup.
The normal 10.6.7 update won't apply because it need a base system of 10.6.6.
The combo update can be found here:
