Mac OS in a virtual machine on a non-Mac-PC

Is it possible to run the Mac OS in a virtual machine on a non Mac-PC and be compliant to license?
We want to start development for iPads and have hundreds of non Mac PCs.
Of course at the end we will need to have Mac for integration ans system testing, but for initial starting, a virtual environment would be fine.

Michael

Hello Allan,
thank you for your quick answer.
Can you point me to some official apple document/license where this is mentioned?
Thank you and regards

I had creative cloud installed in a parallels deskto virtual machine on my mac, I delete the virtual machine without deactivate the creative cloud. after reinstall a new VM running windows 8.1. pro 64 bits, I downloaded the creative cloud installer but it does not install ang give an Error code 72, it is assuming that I already are using the Creative cloud in 2 computer, but itis no the case, how to solve this situation?

Dave: I did the Microsoft Update two days before this happened, and rebooted as required.  I just created a new restore point and lauched Creative Cloud.  Now I get the famous white screen:
It just sits and spins (been 10 minutes now).
Fortunately, I saved away this command (which I've had to use 4 or 5 times already):
    del %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE\opm.db
Unfortunately now, I get this (even after closing the above window):
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
So I killed everything that said "Adobe" in the task manager and this time, the command succeeded.
Fortunately, the current apps seem to still work.  I can't seem to find the "Creative Cloud" app in the applications on my system, but I launched Photoshop CC, told it to look for updates, and got a list of the 5 prgorams that need updates in the Adobe Application manager:
I will proceed with the updates, holding my breath.

  • Installing Acrobat 9 Pro on a virtual machine on my Mac using Parallels.  Not an upgrade but being asked what I upgraded from.

I'm installing Acrobat 9 Pro for Windows on a virtual machine on my Mac (running Parallels).  I successfully installed the same program using the same discs on the same Mac previously, but that virtual machine became corrupt and can no longer be launched.  For this re-installation, the installation sequence is asking what version I upgraded from - but as this is not an upgrade, I get stuck at that step and am unable to complete the installation.  What should my next step be?

    Hi Akselowner,
This error usually comes up if the serial number you are using is an Upgrade serial number.
In such a case the installer will prompt to enter the previous qualifying version serial number.
Please send me a private message with the serial number and I will validate and confirm that for you.
If you do not have the previous qualifying version serial number then the current serial number needs to be unlocked.
Please contact our customer service so that they can do the needful for you. You can even reach our chat support at http://adobe.ly/yxj0t6

Whenever I try to run it I ger error messages saying this is not supported.
When you try to run what?  The Windows program?
There are several virtualization options available... Parallels, VMware's Fusion, and VirtualBox.  Each of these will require that you have a copy of Windows to install.  VirtualBox is free and fully functional.  It's not as polished as the other for-pay options, but it's the only one I use.  Any one of these utilites creates an environment in which you can install Windows within OS X.

  • Sync folder to and from Virtual Machine

i have a folder i would like to sync between my windows 7 virtual machine desktop and my mac desktop. i am imagining that what i add to one and/or delete from one would be added to or deleted from the other. same for organizing the files and folders.
    is this feasible?
    is this something for ChronoSync?
thanks for any advice or expertise.

Ask on your virtual machine software makers website how to go about doing this.
I don't let Windows touch my precious, I use a external USB instead, but I know sharing is possible because VMFusion asked me once and I denied it.

So if the vendor doesn't provide an uninstall program or instructions, we're just stuck with stuff we may no longer need?
Pretty much. You can always erase your hard drive and reinstall the OS. Some people may attempt to talk you through manually deleting files. I try very hard to avoid doing that because 100% of the time, the person I'm trying to help can't find the files and, instead, starts randomly deleting required system files. Then you have no choice but to reinstall the OS.

  • LiveCycle virtual machine, Virtualization and support

Depending who you speak to, it is not clear whether or not the virtualization of Adobe LiveCycle in a Production environment is supported?
With the horse power required and cost of the underlying hardware to run LiveCycle, it would seem appropriate that Virtualization would be supported.
Can someone confirm that virtualization of livecycle is supported by Adobe in a production environment.?
If so, is proprietary hardware required? Or can any server hardware (respecting the minimum requirements) be used?
Is a specific VM software required or will any commercially available VM suffice?
Does any documentation exist?  If so, where?
    Thanks,

Yes my parallels 9 is now working on Mavericks. However in order to install Parallels 9 I had to delete my Parallels 7. And you are right it was an excel file and it is not on the new Parallels 9 desktop, but that is what it was saved to on Parallels 7. I realized now that I should have backed up my computer before updating it. But I just still had a little hope that I could maybe find that excel file.
Parallels is a program which creates an environment in which an operating system (usually Windows) can run on a Mac. The Windows virtual machine which the Parallels program creates is stored in your Documents folder (Documents/Parallels). When you run the Parallels 9 installer, it asks if you want to remove a previous version of Parallels (that appears to be optional), but if you do, the installer does that automatically; there's nothing that you have to delete by hand yourself. All that gets deleted is the old program (i.e., Parallels 7). Your virtual machine files aren't touched and should still be present in the Parallels folder inside your Documents folder.
What you're calling the "Parallels desktop" is actually the Windows desktop which appears when Parallels starts up Windows; you probably have Microsoft Office installed in Windows, which is what you used to create the Excel file. Assuming you didn't delete that Parallels folder inside your Documents folder, the Windows virtual machine should still be there, with the Excel file still on its virtual desktop. With Parallels 9 running, you should be able to open the Windows virtual machine  that's in that folder and run Windows, and the Excel file should reappear.

  • Maximun LUN size for non-MAC SAN

    Hi.
I am trying to configure a PPC Mac Xserve to utilize storage space on a non-mac SAN (Compellent). I successfully setup the original volume on the SAN as a 2TB volume, zoned it through the Qlogic switch and mounted it on the Xserve.
Now I need to increase the size of that volume to 3TB. I unmounted the volume on the Xserve, deleted and recreated it on the SAN, and then tried remounting it on the Xserve. The Xserve detects the new volume, but only sees 2TB of space. No matter what I do, I cannot get it to see anything more than 2TB.
I thought the 10.4.10 FS (HFS+ Journaled) could see well over 2TB? Is there a LUN limitation? The only reference to this that I saw, was a limitation with older versions of the XSAN software.
    Thank you.

  • Photo Stream not working on Windows in a Virtual Machine, but not on my Mac

    Hi there,
since yesterday I tried to connect to Photo Stream with my Mac, but I can't. It works fine in my Windows 7 Virtual Machine with the iCloud software, it works fine on my iPhone 4S. The iCloud System Status suggests that all services work just fine.
However, as soon as I try to activate Photo Stream in iPhoto 9.2 (626) (App Store version, confirmed latest version) or Aperture 3.2 (non App Store version, confirmed latest version), I am presented with the message, which roughly translates to "Activating Photostream... iPhoto couldn't connect to Photostream", with an "Abort" button as the only option.
All other iCloud features work perfectly fine for me. Any suggestiosn?
    Thanks!

confirm that it is activated in icloud preference pane ( System-Settings ) like this :

  • AnyConnect VPN on Mac - Can't SSH to Virtualbox Virtual Machines

    Hi,
I'm running AnyConnect version 3.1.05170 on my Mac.  I'm also doing SW Development on multiple Virtual Machines on my Mac via VirtualBox.  When I connect via VPN, I can no longer SSH to my Virtual Machines.  I'm sure there is a rules setting or something that is killing my "Host Only Network" in VirtualBox so I can no longer access them.  The worst part is that even if I Quit the AnyConnect Client, I still can't SSH to my Virtual Machines, so whatever rule is put in place doesn't go away when I disconnect the tunnel.
Has anyone witnessed this or have a suggestion on how to go about solving it?
    Thanks,
    - Curt

    Hello,
I just encountered the same problem. To solve it, I checked the box "Allow Local (LAN) access when using VPN (if configured)" in the preferences of AnyConnect.
It's working fine for me but I am using Parallels and not VirtualBox.

  • Virtual Machine Additions in Virtual PC for Mac 7.0.2

I'm also new to Virtual PC for Mac and will try some of the suggestions for speeding it up; it is painfully slow. However, I have another but related question.
I keep getting a prompt when I boot Windows XP Prof. and it opens Virtual. It tells me that after I see my Windows desktop, I should install and update Virtual Machine Additions from the PC Menu. My problem is, I can't figure out how to do that. When I'm in Windows, I've explored everything I can find......Menu...Control Panel...Applications, but I can't find anything that shows Virtual PC running so I can't get to the menu that should take me to updates. When I open just Virtual from my Mac desktop (w/o opening Windows) it checks for updates on Virtual PC for Mac but not Virtual Machine Updates. Neither can I find anything on Machine Updates when I search Apple or this support site. When I search Yahoo, it says I have to be running it to update....kind of full circle with it.
Can anyone help re: how to do Virtual Machine Addition Updates? Thanks.

Oops...tried it again..new problem. When I open Virtual, this is the message I get. When I boot from Windows it works........
    "OS not found
Install an OS on this hard drive
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device"
Think I'll uninstall and re-install e'thing from the Virtuall PC for Mac CD. Hate to do it.......just spent a long time y'day doing 17 security updates.
Maybe reinstalling I'll be able to do Machine updates.
    Thanks for the help.

  • No pdf printer in mac - so No pdf printer available in 'virtual machine' on the mac-any suggestions?

I am running Mac OS X version 10.6.2 and I installed CS4 on the laptop.  I have Acrobat 9 Pro - and no pdf 'printer' due to Mac's new operating system.  Unfortunately, I also have a virtual machine on my laptop running Windows XP (with VMWare Fusion).  I need the 'pdf printer' in my virtual machine to create pdf's from my Windows programs.   When I bought the Mac version of CS4 (including Acrobat) I didn't know the 'printer' wasn't included and I can't see buying another Acrobat for Windows....does anyone have any suggestions for installing the pdf printer so my virtual machine has access to the printer?

Hey, guys! be careful, there's a sneaky catch with this "no-pdf-printer" thing.
The warning, concerns mostly the pros (publishers, editors, typographers....) who are used in CMYK chromatic gamut.
The catch is this: you get a CMYK archive, all right, but the color tone IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the one you were used to get with the old good method. That's because, when you choose the "save as adobe pdf" option, initially you get an RGB CONVENTIONAL arch (check the "colors" tag: there 's no CONVENTIONAL CMYK option available). Of course, if you choose to Distill it so that your final arch is a PDF CMYK, what you finally get IS a CMYK archive, BUT: THE COLOR TONE IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT! The Reds are pretty much down, and there's a green-ish cast upon it.
What you can do (and this could be an answer to the dear friend with the difficult onscreen name) is this:
You can install a virtual PPD PRINTER (an LPD). If you Google "virtual ppd printer for OS 10.6" you get the directions, DIRECTLY from Adobe (anyhow, the link is http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404931.html).
And... VOI LA! You can use this (choosing as a PPD Device the "GENERAL IMAGESETTER") in order to make things the good old way (print it as a PS and after DISTILL it enjoyably!!!).
I wonder, why Apple want to make our lives difficult, pretending the same moment that it only makes them easier...
Well, it's pretty much understandable: SNOW LEOPARD is the "prova generalle" before LION is unleashed. They test us, they weigh us, they are watching our reactions, thus validating for FREE their products. They are clever! but being clever just by considering the others (and treat them) as if they were fools, IS NOT HONEST AT ALL!
    Got it Stevie?

  • Windows virtual machine on a Mac mini

Can the Fusion drive in a Mac mini be partitioned to run a Windows7 virtual machine?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You don't have to partition the Fusion Drive to use a virtual machine. Depending on the app you use to make a virtual machine, the virtual machine is stored in Documents folder as a virtual hard drive, so you don't have to worry about it.
You can use Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox to create a virtual machine. VirtualBox is free and works correctly, so I suggest you to try that one first

  • Windows virtual machine with labview on a Mac

I am about to buy a Mac laptop with virtualization software (either VMware or Parallels), then create a Windows 7 virtual machine and put Labview for Windows Professional on it.
I searched the board and found some discussion of this configuration but it is several years old.
I would just like to hear from people who have done this and learn from their experiences.  Are there any pitfalls, features that don't work, performance problems, setup difficulties, whatever.  Also, do you prefer VMware or Parallels.
One other thing:  I would like to create at least four virtual machines (Windows with Labview development, Windows without LV to test the applications in a non-labview environment, and similar for MacOS}.  Is this a reasonable thing to do?
    Regards,
    David

    Hi David,
As indicated above I have been running a windows virtual machine using VMware on a 17 inch macbook pro for quite a while now.  I have not experienced significant problems.  Labview and labview generated apps work fine in the virtual environment.
But would I do it again?  I think not.  The economics don't work.  You can buy a quite capable Windows laptop for less than $500.  The virtual machine alternative costs $200 for a copy of Windows, $80 for virtualization software (Parallels or VMware) plus extra memory on the Mac (I have 8 gb) plus a more powerful machine, etc.  I ended up paying over $3,000 for the Mac hardware and extra software.  The alternative would have been $1,500 for a 15 inch Mac plus $500 for a Windows laptop.
Also, there is definitely a performance penalty.  Virtualization is not free.  Start up and shutdown times for Windows are more than twice as long under VMware than with a cheap HP laptop.
It is nice having all my files (Mac and Windows) on the same machine but I could have easily networked the Mac and Windows and had effectively the same result.  Expected benefits, such as a single backup disk for both operating systems didn't work out.  Apple's time machine software views the entire Windows environment as a single lump, so I am still stuck with two backup drives.
So the good news is that it works.  The bad news is that the costs (in my opinion) exceed the benefits.

  • Using virtual machines with Mac

You wrote : Not without knowing what you're trying to achieve.
This is what I am trying : I am planning to use the virtual machine technique so that I can work from home with the animation softwares to create and convert movies and the most commonly used systems, use Windows OS. I will need to test whether they will run in the Windows environment using all media players before making DVDs. (As per policies that is what I am supposed to reveal).
You wrote : If you're running Linux or Windows, you can use native drivers for your video display and skip the virtualized abstraction layer. You can even add a high-performance video card just for the vm's.
    How can I do that?
