Mac OS Partition is Missing...

Hi Everybody..
I really need you help...
I was use a programme called "PEFDIT32.exe" to change the NTFS format to FAT32 in the windows system...unforunatly...I change the partition of the Mac OS by mistake...now...I can't find the Mac OS Partition anymore...
somebody can help me...
All of my important data are store in MAC...
Thanks~

Welcome to the forums...
I think you mean ptedit32.exe, not PEFDIT32.exe.
Any time a partition format is changed, the data are wiped. I wish I had better news for you. There are utilities for data recovery (e.g. ProSoft's Data Rescue II), but I do not think these are capable of recovering a reformatted drive.

  • Macbook Pro can't find my Mac OS partition

    Hello,
My Macbook Pro recently received a software update. When I restarted it, it could not boot from my Mac OS partition. I unmounted and remounted the OS section...same issue.
When I tried to reinstall Mac OS to the partition, it could find the Mac OS partition, but the installation would not complete due to some sort of error. I repaired the partition, and got a message that everything looked OK, but trying to reinstall the OS again resulted in another failed message.
It will still not find the Mac OS partition as a bootable drive, but my Windows partition is fine.. I'm so confused as to what the issue is here, so hopefully someone can help me.
    Thank you!

Hold the option key down while booting, see if OS X appears and select it to boot from, then reset the StartupDisk in System Preferences again.
If that doesn't work, I suspect a hosed GUID partiton table, backup what you can out of Windows to a external drive and disconnect.

  • Windows 7 partition (bootcamp) missing after Yosemite update

Hi, I just recently updated my OS to Yosemite and now my windows partition is missing. I saw LonerT was helping others with a similar problem and was hoping if I could get some help as well since I am very bad with computers.

I tried running deeper search via testdisk but I came across about 20 different MS data and thought I must've done something wrong. Thanks in advance!

Twenty entries may seem overwhelming, but checking each one using P - List Files should be fairly quick and painless. Most partitions will be damaged anyway.

  • I wiped my Mac desktop partition while using BootCamp. I want to just start over but how do i download snow leopard and start again?

I accidentally wiped my mac OS partition while trying to expand the memory on BootCamp windows to play games. I did this through dropping memory on the mac then trying to merge the unallocated memory with windows 7. I'm now left with windows 7 and next to no memory, i dont have any data i care about backing up as i've only just got this mac (i bought it off a friend and they can't find the installation CD)  So i just want to start over but how can i do this?

You'll need to find the disks, or buy new ones. Snow Leopard only comes on DVD.
Call the Apple store and purchase SL for $29 while they still have some in stock. Prices have skyrocketed for SL retail disks. Going anywhere from $85 to $125. While you have Apple on the phone, make sure to have your Mac's serial number handy. This is important because the last retail release of SL was 10.6.3. If the Mac you now own came with 10.6.4 or later, it will not be able to use the retail disk.
If that's the case, then you can use the serial number to get the correct replacement gray disks the Mac came with. It's not expensive to get them and would be good to have anyway since the retail disks do not include the bundled software such as iLife, Garage Band and a bunch of others.

  • Cannot access Mac OS Partition from windows 8 running in boot camp

So I installed Windows 8.1 Pro through Boot Camp but I can't access the Mac OS partition from windows even though boot camp partition shows up while I'm on Mac OS. I have installed all the drivers from apple but still it didn't work. Then I downloaded Paragon HFS+ which was free for windows 8 and 8.1 thinking that this would solve my problem. The instructions told me to change the drive letter for mac partition from disk management by right clicking the drive pressing "change drive letter and path" button. But the "change drive letter and path" key in grey color and I can't press it. Can somebody please help?

  • Can't install windows to mac osx partition!

Hi, I had 2 partitions in my macbook pro, 1 for mac osx and 1 for bootcamp, and I wanted to install mac osx to a firewire hard drive, but i messed it up and installed mac osx OVER the bootcamp partition.
Now I have 2 mac osx partitions on the macbook pro, and can't reformat the partition to reinstall bootcamp.
Is there a way to reformat that partition and reinstall bootcamp (windows)?
    Thanks in advance!

That is why backup should be #1 and last.
You have to return (ie, reformat) your drive probably back to one partition with just Mac OS before you can use Boot Camp Assistant.
While at it, just clone one of your Mac OS volumes over to FW now. Later, with Windows installed, make an image of that (WinClone) while in Mac OS to your FW drive also.

I have a 750GB HDD. Speaking visually (looking at Disk Utility) I had a 250GB Mac Journaled partition on the top, and a 500GB Mac Journaled partition on the bottom.
The 250GB partition has been deleted and is now free space.
Now how do I expand the 500GB partition "upwards" when the GUI only gives me a resizing handle on the bottom right corner in Disk Utility?
I am comfortable with Terminal if there is a non-destructive CLI way to do this, since the Disk Utility GUI seems to have failed here...

    OK.
You will need to check out a third-party utility.  The diskutil CLI utility cannot non-destructively change the start of a partition map, only the end (which is why you only get the draggable handle in the GUI at the bottom of each partition...same idea).
To be honest, I'm not even sure how well third-party tools will do at this either.  Changing the start of a partition is non-trivial, be cause of the partition map files, b-trees and so on which have to be moved.  iPartition is well regarded, but also not free.
And regardless of what tool you use, you will want a backup of your data (assuming that it's data you want to keep, or you wouldn't care about non-destructive repartitioning).  Which might mean that just getting a new HDD , copying the data and then repartitioning the current one and having an extra HDD because of it may be the simplest and safest solution anyway...

  • Unable to boot to Vista after changing Mac OS partition size

    Greetings,
After creating an additional Mac OS partition, I can't boot into Vista anymore. Any way to fix it without re-installing?
I have an intel iMac running Leopard, and Vista on a bootcamp NTFS partition. That was working fine.
I created a new partition on the drive (using space from my Leopard partition) and installed Tiger on it for a short project.  I’ve been dual booting between Leopard and Tiger just fine.
However, now I’m unable to boot using the Vista partition.  I boot to a black screen with white text that states "No bootable device, hit any key" error. Of course hitting a key does nothing.
I can boot into Leopard/Tiger just fine, and can see the Vista partition from Leopard and view the files as usual. However I just can't boot into Vista. I tried running the repair tool from the Vista install disk, but that doesn't work on the NTFS partition (I think it doesn't see a windows partition to fix). Disk utility from Leopard shows the vista partition as the right size and formatted as NTFS.
I'm really stumped by the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    TestDisk - CGSecurity.
TestDisk is a powerful free data recovery software! It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally deleting a Partition Table). Partition table recovery using TestDisk is really easy.
    TestDisk can
    * Fix partition table, recover deleted partition
    * Recover FAT32 boot sector from its backup
    * Rebuild FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 boot sector
    * Fix FAT tables
    * Rebuild NTFS boot sector
    * Recover NTFS boot sector from its backup
    * Fix MFT using MFT mirror
    * Locate ext2/ext3 Backup SuperBlock
    # Mac partition map
    # NTFS ( Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008 )
TestDisk has features for both novices and experts. For those who know little or nothing about data recovery techniques, TestDisk can be used to collect detailed information about a non-booting drive which can then be sent to a tech for further analysis. Those more familiar with such procedures should find TestDisk a handy tool in performing onsite recovery.

Seeing you could lose everything, I would definitely use WinClone while in OS X to backup Vista, and CCC or SuperDuper to backup your OS X volumes (or Apple DU Restore, just be sure to turn off "Ignore Ownership" and repair permissions afterward, and then rerun 10.5.2 if possible).

  • Due to reinstallation of mac 2nd partition is nt showing how to recover the partition and data

Due to reinstallation of mac 2nd partition is nt showing how to recover the partition and data

If you have no backup your only option is to perform incomplete recovery (point-in-time recovery) to the time just before the drop, export the table and then restore the database (for example, from a cold backup taken just before the incomplete recovery,) and import the table. This obviously requires a full backup
taken before the drop which you don't seem to have, so the answer is "regrettably no."
    If you have a backup;
Take backup of ur current db, apply previous day backup, do point in time recovery to get table back, export table, shutdown and apply latest backup, import table back

  • Mac CS4 OnLocation codec missing?

We have terabytes of data captured from onLocation CS3 in DVCPro100/HD (PC of course) and have edited on PC Adobe CS3, using the codec that came with onLocation CS3 install.
We recently bought a new Mac with CS4, and it cannot read the Avi files onLocation CS3 saved, needing a codec for AE/Prem. The install of CS4 OnLocation for Mac seems to be missing a codec to allow it to even support it.
This is a bit of a blooper for us. The Adobe suite really needs to get this codec issue sorted I think. Having a capture software and editing software in one package called "production premium" that can't even access the files it created on a different platform seems a bit poor considering this is now touted as 'cross-platform'
If they can't offer a codec for DVCProHD, why even offer onLocation with capture ability for that format, or even at all for the Mac (it can't even read files captured as Quicktime)
It works on the PC, so to not offer it for the Mac is even worse!
If you buy Production Premium CS4 for the Mac, it seems you are offered the feature to capture DVCPro100/HD, but not edit it! A MAJOR oversight.
We are really hoping Adobe release a codec for the Mac here, because otherwise it's basically worthless software. Our whole workflow using CS3 Adobe suite worked fine on PC, but the whole process seems forgotten for Mac use!

I think we can capture in QT DVCProHD, OnLo CS4 Mac will capture both AVI and QT formats, and the PC will play the AVI's and the Mac will play the QT ones (I *think* the Mac does, we haven't fully tested it yet after the patch)
However, the problem is we have used and shot/captured with OnLo CS3 PC, and so saved terabytes of AVI's in DVCProHD/100, and the Mac CS4 AE and Prem simply cannot see them.
We have many many old project files we just can't use via a Mac machine now.
We can't even swap to QT format in future, because the PC version of AE/Prem can't see the QT formats either.
Basically, Adobe should support both AVI and QT DVCProHD files on both PC and Mac.
I can't even be sure what CS4 PC version offers wrt to codecs, as it *sounds* like the built-in system codec is gone now too, so even a PC running CS4 AE/Prem can't see the DVCProHD AVI's!
Needless to say, we won't be upgrading any Adobe software until we check the software demo's to see if they actually do what the old stuff did, otherwise it's backwards steps and screwing up our workflow to the point we are out of business!

  • Mac OS Partition has disappeared

I have a macbook 2.. ghz with Mac OS 10.4... (sorry for the imprecision, I don't see the system anymore) The HD has 2 partitions, one for Mac OS one for BootCamp.
I was working on a Word file and got the message that the document could be save because the disk was full. I had to force quit word, and then the Finder froze and I had to force a shut down.
When I tried to start again, nothing happened, only a grey screen.
I've tried to start in safe mode, nothing
I've reset the PRAM, doesn't start
I was able to start it in TERMINAL mode and plug it to my other computer, but I can't see the HD even when I run disk utility, However I can see the CD that was in the drive.
I've started with the Mac OS install disk and run Disk Repair, I can see the HD, with two partitions, but one shows as 'UNTITLED' and the other is the bootcamp one, I can't run a check or a repair on the untitled partition.
I've tried to archive and reinstall the system, but the only disk I see for installation, is the Bootcamp
partition, the other partition doesn't show.
I would like to be able to access the Mac os partition to save my documents and then reinstall the OS, any suggestions how to achieve this
    Thanks for your help

Tried to start from my good computer, I could see the good hardrive in terminal mode but the bad computer froze when I tried to select my good drive as a startup disk.
I've also tried to install a fresh system on the Window Partition after I've erased it, it starts ok but after 10 mn tell me there is an error in the installation.
I've also run Diskutility from the install CD and I can see both drive. but for the mac OS one, it show me it is a Mac OS format and its size bu tit is not able to show me how much free space is left.
I've tried a repair since this function was available, but after few minutes an error message told me that the repair cannot be performed.
This is a very puzzling problem, but I would really like to be able to save some of the file that are on this partition.

  • Mac os partition not being detected

I was using samsung hdd in my mac that was bootcamp partitioned. later I replaced the hard drive with the other HDD. Now i am using samsung hdd as external drive and wanna format it but the mac OS partition is not being detected how do I format the whole drive??? I can only see the windows partiton which is 150gb rest 350gb was Mac OS partition which i wanna format but not able to do....please help

Ok, you took out drive #1 which had Lion, Lion Recovery Partition and Bootcamped Windows.
You installed drive #2 internally and installed the Lion Recovery Partition and Lion (via what method?)
You booted from drive #2 and hooked up your drive #1 using either a SATA to USB adapter or powered enclosure and only can see the bootcamped partition? not the previous Lion Recovery or Lion OS X partition.
Some enclosures don't work with OS X
However if you want to format the entire external drive, wiping off everything including OS X, Bootcamp and Windows, all your files and programs, you should be able to select the "size" "brand name" + "model number" + "media" of the actual hardware itself on the far left side in Disk Utility.
(In my case I have two OS X partitions)
If your just selecting the name of your OS X boot partition, like Macintosh HD, then your only formatting that partition not the entire drive.
Click the Partition tab, select 1 partition, Option GUID, format OS X Extended Journaled and click apply, the entire drive will then be formatted for Mac use only.
If you want PC/Mac use, then Option Master Boot Record, format exFAT for 4GB+ files, or FAT (MSDOS) for under 4GB sized files, but most compatibility with other devices and Windows XP machines.
My thread here explains how it all works.
