Mac OS Preview app stopped showing thumbnails

I'm running a Macbook Air 13" 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4GB RAM, OS X 10.9.5.
I used to use Preview to rearrange pages in PDFs and concatenate 2 PDFs into one. Adobe Acrobat Reader won't do this, you need the full Adobe Acrobat which is very expensive, but Preview was a nice workaround. One day about a month ago, the sidebar showing page thumbnails went black and I can't seem to fix it. I have restarted, but I'm not sure what else to try. Anyone else having this issue, or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Do a backup.
Quit Preview.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Remove the following. You may not find them all. Restart and test.

Containers/com.apple.quicklook.ui.helper
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist

Preview app not showing thumbnails view scrambled

Hi,
since i updated to maverick last week i got an issue with the Mac Preview app, it opens the documents ok, but when opening several files at the time, the thumbnails are all scrambled and not showing the miniature of the selected file.
if i click on the thmbnails area and navigate with the keyboard's arrows it allows me to go through the open files, all files open ok but the thumbnails is the only part that is having this issue.
i have deleted the com.apple.Preview from ~\Library\Containers but still having the issue.
Any suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

PSE 12 Has stopped showing thumbnails for new files

PSE 12 has stopped showing thumbnails for new file imports. Have Windows 8.1 update

In the PSE12 Organizer, the last files imported show an hourglass thumbnail. I am importing from the camera card. Other images have the correct thumbnail. I see the spinning icon on the lower bar showing it updating the catalog. Thank you for your assistance

Lightroom has stopped showing thumbnails on Import. How do I get my previews back?

My Lightroom (5.3) has stopped showing previews on Import. I can still see older Imports in Library but my latest Imports are just grey boxes. I can open the boxes in Develop and these stay as previews for up to 3 thumbnails in Library before disappearing again. I have tried reinstalling Lightroom 5. I have checked my sRGB. It is the same problem with different cards and different external drives.
How can I get my Library to show Preview thumbnails once more? Thanks, Angus

Could it be that the Camera Software is installed and it got Updated?
-Sometimes it happens that the "autoplay" uses the Codec for recognizing the files, and When Lightroom tries to do the same the files are in use, so it can not generate Previews/Thumbnails.
Do you get the same result if you Try to Import from Safe Boot?
- It could be that there is some software installed that now also manages during startup, also preventing Lightroom to Generate the Previews.
Have you tested with a new Catalog, do you get the same behavior there?

I do not have some apps in my mac but still app store shows them as update available

I have a Mac Book Pro. I installed some apps and then deleted them from my mac. All the apps are no longer visible in the launchpad. But still the mac app store shows them as an update available. Kindly tell my either how to uninstall those apps completely or how to get rid of the problem.

My app stopped showing up on autocomplete

Before, when I started typing in my app name, autocomplete always showed my app full name. I just noticed it doesn't do that anymore even though it autocompletes other apps. Why?
Try it yourself. My app is modern word processor.

Video app - TV shows thumbnails

Hi
I have my video app set to 'show all videos' on my 5S. This shows all my films and TV shows that are available to download or stream from the cloud. What I noticed is that if I go into the TV shows and select a series, then I click on the cover art and drill down to the series I want where it shows the description and a further thumbnail for each episode (usually a still from that particular episode). Thing is the thumbnails/stills specific to each episode are largely blank. The odd episode has a thumbnail amidst my TV show library but most are blank with just a generic grey box with a TV symbol inside the box. If I select 'show me more episodes' from the same series that I haven't bought, the remaining episodes that I do not own then show in the screen along with my owned episodes except these all have the episode thumbnail. I hope that makes sense.
Is this a glitch? Do others see the same? I am on the latest 7.1.1 iOS by the way

When I got home and reconnected to wifi these episode thumbnails loaded in okay so that's all it was.
But one annoyance is wifi has to be switched on to show the cloud music and videos on the respective apps. If it's off they all disappear despite having 4G cellular. As long as wifi is switched on in the device even if you move out of a wifi zone and into cellular the cloud downloads remain available. It just had to have the wifi toggle on. That's a bit if a bad design from apple in ios as one may not want to have wifi on bad scanning all the time but still want to see the cloud music etc

My newly downloaded apps stopped showing up on desktop.

No problems before. Now when downloading apps, they do not show up on desktop. When I go to open them, they wont open.

How do I force Firefox (6v02) to stop showing thumbnails of existing file(s) in the save-as dialog box?

I save files associated with similar objects using similar names (just a different extension, or numeric sequence). The save-as dialog box shows a list of existing files. When I choose one, with the intention of changing the file extension or the numeric sequence (e.g., choose 'file001.jpg' in order to rename the new file to be saved 'file002.mpg') the thumbnail associated with the one I select is shown on the right. I neither want nor need this time-consuming & memory-consuming process to take place. I would like to be able to disable this feature in order to allow me to do what I want directly and faster (P3/866MHz/512MB).

Perhaps, but the problem is I don't really know what to look for. I've tried doing a keyword search of the AIprefs file to find where ICC profiles and compression could be located but I couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what they are called and what I should modify?

Bridge CC stopped showing thumbnails, does not expand at triangles

-- three days ago Bridge doesn't let me open all triangles at folder's tab anymore, sometimes more, sometimes less
-- plus when being at a folder that cannot expand anymore and Bridge should display the thumbnails of files, it doesn't build up the view
-- sometimes after quitting/relaunching Bridge I got dialog box about some loadup scripts probs and that I should try to purge the central cache at Prefs (I've done so twice, problem persists)
(no changes on my Mac OS System 10.9.5 or any CC product;, CC and CC 2014 products always updated to latest versions)
-- workaround now is to look for the files in finder, which is tedious as I cannot automate, label, etc and more annoying and therefore I would ask for immediate help: how can I open RAW files in PS without being able to select a bunch in Bridge?

You can open them through Photoshop > File >Open, or by double-clicking on the file icon in the Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer.
But that's really what Bridge is for. Originally, Bridge was called simply Photoshop File Browser.

In CR2008 the Preview Tab stopped showing up

I am new to Crystal Reports, so I would really appreciate help on this.
My reports used to show up in Preview Mode in CR20080. I am not sure which setting is responsible for this, but yesterday for some reason, all reports started opening up in Design Tab. I created a couple of reports where I did not use "Save Data with Report" setting. Now, I changed them back to use "Save data with report" setting, but it still does not help. Even the reports which I did not touch started open up with the Design Tab only (they used to open in Preview Mode before).

I just received an e-mail from one of my former colleagues. Based on his own experience, he suggested to verify one of the Crystal Reports settings: go through File->Options. In the application's Options window select tab "Reporting" and, if checked, uncheck "Discard Saved Data on Open" - this option strips away any data from the report even if "Save Data With Report" is checked. He was right, that checkbox was ON, so on the startup, my reports had nothing to show in the Preview Tab. I unchecked the box and that fixed the problem.

Preview.app - not functioning? Lost? How to update a recovered version?

Dear Apple community!
I upgraded my MBP from Leopard to SnowLeopard (finally).
Everything went fine, but I found two versions of preview.app in my programs directory afterwards (yes, one in the specific folder where I once put it to).
Both were version 5 - the first was build 501 the second build 502. Not needing both I deleted the older one (using my PathFinder file browser). To my horrified surprise (after emptying the trash... and before Time Machine had its initial run), my preview.app stopped working. It opened itself, but that was it. Nothing else showed up. Nothing could help, but a proper reinstall of that app - nicely hidden in my SL install DVD. Here is, what I did:
I used the Shareware "Pacifist" to open that DVD and got the possibility to reinstall JUST the lost app - in my case, "preview". Everything went fine, preview started to work again.
Two problems remained so far:
1st: The preview.app that I could reinstall onto my MBP came without the german language pack that it had before (from the very same SL DVD) - just a minor issue, but maybe some of you could provide a workaround.
2nd: The preview.app I reinstalled came in version 501 - so I lost the updated one and do not know how to update the older version to the current state of art. The Apple software update assistant could not locate it. Any suggestions?

Thx for the suggestion of a fresh install... I fear you might be right, but that solution isn´t providing me much happiness...
By the way, how to avoid another disaster of the same kind? Is there a possibility to get rid of those app doublets (that I usually find after 10.X upgrades) without messing things up?

Finder Not Showing Thumbnail Images anymore

Finder has stopped showing thumbnails of all images, in thumbnail view. Just the generic jpg thumbnail appears. Checked view settings, they are fine. Happens in every folder and on external drives.

Just like Windows!! Restart fixed it!! Gong!
