Mac OS PSE8 - Duplicate PlugIns and Raw 5.7 won't appear

I'm running PSE 8 in Snow Leopard and have recently upgraded to Raw 5.7. The installation initially failed (or so it said) so I re-installed. Now all of the PlugIns (not just CameraRaw) are duplicated and CameraRaw shows up as Version 5.5 still. The bizarre thing is that when you open a raw file in Bridge, it opens as in Camera Raw 5.7.
Additionally, when PS8 exits, I get an error message. Any suggestions?
Will there be any issues if I uninstall and install PS8 again?

No, it was OK. I hadn't dragged PSE8 to trash. I had simply used the Installer which said 'Install or Reinstall' as an option. I assumed that if the Installer detected an existing copy, it would delete it first. There was some text somewhere that said the Installer contained the Uninstall option (which I could never find as it was in the Applications folders).
Now I have deleted as you suggested and then I ran the Clean-Up.
Anyway, we're nearly there. PSE8 doesn't crash anymore (except when I look at CameraRaw in 'About Plug-Ins' and click on the "About" box to close it), the duplicate Plug-Ins are gone and the correct version of CameraRaw (6.1) works.
However, CameraRaw doesn't work in Bridge anymore except with 5.5. It used to work with 5.7 before I started trying to fix all this. When I first opened it after the re-installation, it was showing Icons instead of the Raw thumbnails - like it was after my first attempts to update CameraRaw 6.1 but before the re-installation of PSE8 that worked. The other odd thing is that the layout is unchanged - it has my default. I assumed that Bridge would be deleted and re-installed by the clean-up, etc and I would lose my preferences as I didn't save them. I can't see an Uninstall folder or file under Bridge.
I was only able to make it work by putting the old CameraRaw Plug-In 5.5 back in the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS4/File Formats folder. I've tried putting both the 5.7 and 6.1 versions in there and neither will work. Does CameraRaw 6.1 work with CS4 Bridge?
Sorry to be a pain. I can live with 5.5 in Bridge but I am about to buy an Olympus e-PL1 with will need at least 5.7. I guess I can always use PSE8 only for that.

You can never, never transfer an installed copy of PSE. PSE is not a tidy package like most mac apps; the installer strews stuff all over your hard drive and neither you nor the migration assistant can ever hope to find all the necessary bits and pieces.
Now you have kind of a mess to clean up. First download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
It won't seem to do anything, but it's necessary in order for you to be able to successfully manually remove what did get transferred so that you can reinstall PSE.
Then go around and remove all the bits you can find, not only from applications but from your user>library>preferences and especially from hard drive>library>application support. Note that those are two different libraries.
Then you can reinstall PSE from scratch.

Mom used comp....and now the dock won't appear

Hi,
My mom used my scanner/printer recently and when I went onto my comp to use it there was a dialogue box that I couldn't click out of so I restarted it and now the dock won't appear when I hover at the bottom of the screen.
I had a similar problem this summer when I turned of the comp and moved it into another room to find that my desktop wallpaper had disapeared and I still havn't been able to reload it.
Can someone help me figure out what's wrong? Thanks in advance

Different cable? Checked in Device Manager to verify the proper driver is installed and also manually installed the driver?

I have a mac os 10.4.11 and my firefox suddenly won't respond anymore even if I delete and reinstall.

Why do i have to install iTunes everytime just so i can connect my iPod Touch to sync it? It mounts once and after that it won't appear.

It just allows me to mount it once, after that it will not mount until i install i Tunes again. Is there anything i can do so it mounts all the time suxxessfully?

If you are in a country where re-downloading is possible (iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085), delete the track (and the original file) and download again (Downloading [using iOS or computer] past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519). See tips on downloading in https://discussions.apple.com/message/19097773, especially unchecking the "Allow Simultaneous Downloads" box in the downloads tab of iTunes.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.
If you cannot download a second time, contact iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history or,

Incomplete playback seems to be reported several times a day here. I don't recall this happening before iTunes 10. I would suggest posting feedback to Apple so they aware of an issue.

Help with updating plugin for raws on a mac please

I've got a mac on os 10.4.11 with 2 GB of memory.
I had Elements 4.0 on it, but had to upgrade to the current release to get compatibility with my new camera and it's raw format.
I installed Elements 8.0, and it worked fine but needed a plugin upgrade to see my new cameras raws.
I then followed the installation instructions (except the part about the Camera Raw.8bi file which doesn't seem to exist on my system...??)
to go to the plugin v 6.1 (also tried v6.2) and when I do, and I relaunch Elements, it doesn't recognize the file, and if I click Photoshop Elements > About Plugin > Camera Raw ... I get the error "Could not complete the Camera Raw command because there is not enough memory (RAM)" -- this makes no sense to me given that I have 2 GB on the machine, and am not running any other software. Here are the steps I took to do the update of the plugin:
Download it
Stop elements
drill the folder where the orig plugin is (in the plugins\file formats directory)
Replace the original plugin with the new one
Start Elements
run the cameraprofiles.mpkg file
Stop Elements
Start Elements
click Photoshop Elements > About Plugin > Camera Raw ...
<Error as stated above>
so, what the heck am I missing?

Okay, something is wrong with your procedure.
You need to go here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=40&platform=Macintosh
and download the plug-in. (I'd stick to 6.1 for right now, since several people are reporting problems wit 6.2, if your camera works with 6.1).
Put the .plugin file in the specified location (per the readme file), but you must remove any older versions first, no matter what the instructions may say.
To update bridge, go to Help>Updates in bridge, but you can't update bridge past ACR 5.7.

I just don't want iTunes to sync photo duplicates. I had brought this up before and this is still an issue for me. I'd love to know if there is an advanced Mac user that can help solve this issue. By preference, I have my camera save JPEG and RAW simultaneously, which means each photo gets placed on my iPods twice. Photos take up 21.6 GB, could be almost half (some videos in the photo folders). I've submitted a feature request / suggestion, but I would like to resolve this sooner than later.
I searched around, hoping to find some method on OS X of denying an application access to certain file types; haven't seen anything yet. Why is this not an issue for others? Am I really that much of an oddball for wanting both JPEG and RAW?

Thanks--the stacking approach seems to mostly work OK; not sure why I didn't think of it. IA problem though is that setting the slider for the time between shots to zero doesn't actually group shots having the same capture time--it seems to group nothing! Kind of pointless. You thus have to set the minimum time to 1s, which can put too many photos in a stack if you've been blazing away. I think I'd consider this a bug.

I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8. I had a problem with my my operating system (my fault, I moved a file I shoudnt have) couldnt boot up but was able to boot up from a backup. I managed to repair my original system except now all the system folders, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac). For the most part the dupes are an exact copy, but not always. I want to remove them to free up space and cant imagine duplicate folders in the /system/library are not hindering my computer. But I dont know where to start and am afraid of doing irreparable damage. Any ideas

PSE 6 for Mac and Raw 5.4

In the download section of Adobe.com, it said RAW 5.4 was usable in PSE 6, so I downloaded the update. Is there any good reason I can't open it. It tells me to "Quit"... which is not a nice thing to say (maybe I need thicker skin!). Any advice? Bill

Thanks for your reply. The file I downloaded is AdobeCameraRaw-5.4-mul-AdobeUpdate. Inside are 3 items (extensions, resources, setup.app)--- no "camera raw.plugin". I did as you indicated, inserting the entire contents mentioned above (for I didn't see a .pligin file) into CS3 even though the literature I read on Adobe.com says it won't work with CS3, buy 4! I also inserted the download into PSE 6, which the literature indicated will work there (into PSE's plugin folder). Not work htere either. I'd like to be able to do editing on my new camera's images. Thanks for any help you can give. Bill
PS In Lr, I downloaded another plugin and it said it just had to be the computer/desktop somewhere... no special place for the pluin into using Flickr. It works fine in a folder I have on my desktop. Am I missing something?

I wonder why CS6 is not complete when downloaded? Why should I have to download JBX? If needed it should be a part of Indesign. My Mac doesn't have a name of a file to open and download, so now I simply don't have CS6 and can't convert my book to Kindle for sales on Amazon.

Thanks John. I have tried solutions 1 to 3 from (-http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/aam-lists-removed-apps-date.h tml) and they do not work. So I presume that all I can do is to remove all 25 CC applications and start again!
Incidently, ( http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ ) does not list Adobe Camera Raw 8.4 as an update even though Adobe have announced that it is available (http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2014/04/camera-raw-8-4-and-dng-converter-8-4-now-a vailable.html). The same applies for Adobe Premiere Pro 7.2.2 (http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2014/04/premiere-pro-cc-7-2-2.html). If they are not available this would explain why I cannot download them but I am very suprised that Adobe didn't mention this when I contacted them.

If I upgrade from PSE6 Mac to PSE8 Mac, will I still be able to keep and use Bridge CS3 with it for browsing etc.?

If you upgrade to PSE 8 you'll get bridge CS4, which is better. If you meant to type PSE 9, yes, you can still use bridge, but you can't update the raw converter anymore, so if you get a newer camera model you won't see thumbnails for your raw images. This was done with bridge from PSE 8, but the process is similar for PSE 6:
